• MacMini giving "no signal" when using the television resolutions (480p, 720p, 1080i)

  I have a Mac Mini (10.6) with a DVI out to my 720p television. It shows the options for 480p, 720p and 1080i with a little television next to the icons, along with the stand resolutions like 1024x768. The standard resolutions work fine with overscan checked, but I can't get any of the native television resolutions to work. I only get a "no signal" on my television. The input on the television is marked with 1080i/720p/480p and yet only 480p (and the PC native resolutions like 1024x768) work. What's happening?

  I'am trying to install "fail2ban" on Cubidebian, a Debian port for Cubieboard (A raspberry like board). The following rule failed due to "-m multiport --dports ssh" options (It works, when i run manually the command without multiple options). $ iptables -I INPUT -p tcp -m multiport --dports ssh -j fail2ban-ssh" iptables: No chain/target/match by that name. When i make a cat on "/proc/net/ip_tables_matches", i see that multiport module is not loaded: $ cat /proc/net/ip_tables_matches u32 time string statistic state owner pkttype mac limit helper connmark mark ah icmp socket socket quota2 policy length iprange ttl hashlimit ecn udplite udp tcp What can i do to compile or to enable the multiport module? • Pressing 'Enter' doesn't really work in Firefox

  When I'm typing just about anywhere in Firefox on OSX and press enter, it simply doesn't do anything. This includes typing in a textarea element (which should take the cursor to the next line), in a search form (which should submit the form). I'm typing this very question in Firefox right now and I'm unable to advance the cursor to the beginning of the next line. I have no clue what I did to make this happen, but it's kinda driving me insane. This is Firefox 3.6.3 under Mac OS X 10.6. Thanks!

• IP not detected in terremark enteprise cloud server - how to install VMware on instance?

  Using terremark enteprise cloud, when you create a server, you assigned an IP address to them and that IP is visible under Detected IP when selecting the server. However, I created a server, with IP address and I created an internet service and connected it with a node. I used protocol TCP and mapped it to port 3001. But I notice when I select my server, the IP address doesnt dsplay under Detected IP and then I VPN Connect, launch terminal and try to SSH with the IP to my server, and I get connection timed out. I presume the reason lies in that the IP address is not being detected. Someone suggested that my VMware-Tools is out of date and in fact on the server instance for VMware-Tools it does say "out of date". I'm not sure how to mount the instance and install VMware-Tools. I am using Mac OSX. Someone said that it will only work on PC running IE.

• What kind of time lapse image stitching software is out there?

  I took a bunch of digital images(jpg format) of a sunrise that I want to make into a time lapse movie. The only recommendation I've seen was some iStopMotion for Mac, but I am running Windows. I would prefer the software to take into account the metadata in the image that indicates what time the image was taken when determining how long to display each frame, as they won't be accurately consistent in their temporal spacing. Onion skinning would be a cool feature to. Please, one software suggestion per answer to allow the voting system to do it's job. Thanks in advance.

• Rsync fails for files that start with underscore when destination is zfs

  everyone. I'm using rsync3.1.0pre1 on Mac OS X 10.8.5, and am trying to rsync one folder to another. The destination is a ZFS volume mounted via SMB. The problem I'm having is that files that start with underscore (e.g., '_filename.jpg') are not being successfully synced to the destination. I get the following error message: rsync: mkstemp "/path/to/destination/._filename.jpg.NUgYJw" failed: Permission denied (13) In this case, '_filename.jpg' does not make it to the destination. I understand that rsync creates hidden, temporary files at the destination which are preceded with '.' and have a random file extension appended on the end. But the original filename starts with '', not '.', and I haven't asked rsync to copy extended attributes / resource forks over (unless it always does it). The rsync command I'm using is: rsync -avE --exclude='.DS_Store' --exclude '.Trash' --exclude 'Thumbs.db' --exclude '._*' --delete /source/ /destination/ Has anyone found a way around this problem? • Is there a suitable chain for iptables when eth is in Promisc mode?

  I have a fron-end machine. Machine have2 eth cards. I want to use netfilter queue to do some checks on the packets. I set eth like this: ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 promisc up ifconfig eth1 0.0.0.0 promisc up I want to have an iptable rule like this(only example): iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -j LOG --log-prefix " eth0 packet " but the packet is no passed through the iptables ,because it dosnt target to this MAC. Promisc mode didnt help. I saw that there is a way to add iptables chain for PROMISC, but need compilation... Is there any simplier way to have iptables rule when packet is not target to this eth. Currently i bypass this by creating a bridge between 2 eth and put rule on the FORWARD, but i done want to create bridge.

• Automatically Connecting to Hidden SSID WiFi Network

  My MacBook Pro will not automatically connect to a Wireless network with a hidden SSID. It makes me select the "Join Other Network..." in the Airport menu (in the system tray), where I need to input the name of the network, then security type, password and wait for it to connect. This is becoming increasingly annoying to have to do every time I come back to my desk. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5 and there doesn't seem to be an option to connect to a specific network, but rather "Preferred Networks." The only network I have set as Preferred that's in range is my home network, and it still doesn't automatically connect. Making the network publicly visible isn't under my control, so I'm stuck with what's currently in place.   I have some disks that were being used on a Solaris system. The disks are formatted as UFS. I attached them to a Debian system (with FreeBSD kernel. • Installing Chrome OS on HP Pavilion

  Trying to install Chrome OS on HP Pavillion tx1000. I changed the BIOS to boot from USB before hard drive, and created a bootable USB drive (SanDisk Cruzer 4GB). No matter how many ways I try to make the USB drive, the laptop hangs on the startup screen, and trying to open the Boot Order Options freezes on "Fixed disk 0: ...". On the other hand, without the USB plugged in, the computer continues, and displays "Initialized Mouse", and then onto the Boot Order Options. If you let it boot normally from the beginning, it starts up fine into Windows Vista. I am using Hexxeh's Chrome OS build. Here are the different methods I've tried for making the Bootable USB Drive: Hexxeh's Image Creator (for Mac) Making the USB device bootable (using these directions). I wrote the image using Win32DiskImager. Writing the image using Win32DiskImager (without making it bootable).

Symptoms: From a domain-member Windows 7 Client: Domain credentials to a domain controller = success Domain credentials to a member server (by hostname or FQDN) = success Domain credentials to a member server (by IP) = fail Local credentials to a member server (by either) = success From a non-domain-member Windows 7 Client: Domain credentials to a domain controller = success Domain credentials to a member server = fail Local credentials to a member server = success (Identical behavior from a Mac RDC 2.1 client) Server Configuration Details: Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter w/ SP1 The domain in question is a subdomain of a Windows 2008 domain (forest root). Root has DCs in both Site A and Site B, subdomain only has DCs in Site B. RDP is operating normally on all root member-servers and DCs. No remote desktop settings are defined by GPOs. Network level authentication is enabled; all clients are compatible and the certificate exchange/SSL handshake completes successfully. Not catching any errors in netlogon log.

  I made a git repo on a local machine with "git init --bare" and added it as the remote origin on the project on my main computer with ssh: git add remote origin [email protected]:repoName.git I was able to make a commit and push from my main computer to the other computer the day I created the repo, but today i tried and it didn't work. When I did "git push origin" it returned this error: bash: line 1: git-receive-pack: command not found fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly The two machines are mac the main one running Leopard and the server one running Tiger.   I compiled GCC 4.4.3 and installed it in /usr/local/bin, but whenever I install a port via MacPorts 1.8.2 the verbose output says MacPorts is using /usr/bin/gcc-4.2: checking for gcc... /usr/bin/gcc-4.2 How do I make MacPorts find my own GCC 4.4.3? • Shut down by pressing the power button twice

  I have set my laptop's power button to shut down the computer when it is pressed (Windows 7 x86). But I often hit the button accidentally, and it's a rare case that I'm able to actually prevent it from shutting down. I don't want to disable it though. Is there a way so that I get a confirmation whether I really want to shut down the computer (just like in Mac OS X Lion, where a confirmation appears when the power button is pressed)?. Is there some way to bring the same to Windows 7 (and 8)?

  I am trying to create a scheduled task to convert all my .vsd files to pdf so all of our devices can read them (linux, mac, smartphones, etc..) and I would prefer not paying for something that can be done with Visio + PDFcreator. The approach of using openoffice doesn't work with .vsd files since it's not a supported format ( Method/tools for batch-converting Microsoft Word files into PDF?) What I've currently is this: 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio11\VISIO.EXE' /pt "Z:\Archive\Files.vsd",-PPDFCREATORPRINTER /nologo That is able to open automatically the document I want and to prepare it to be printed, the only missing part is that it requires me to confirm on the printing dialog. • Alternative to Canned Response in Gmail

  I have a mailbox that i share with a colleague. We want a good way to store templates for e-mails that we send often like answers to common questions and so on. We have tried to use Canned Response to store this templates but that GUI really sucks and is kind of unusable for other things then signatures and stuff. Is anyone aware of a good alternative to this? We need to be able to share this templates. So it must be stored "in the cloud". We want "as easy access" as possible directly in gmail. A firefox plugin would be fine since we both use Firefox. We use both Mac and PC so the solution must be cross-platform. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

• My Quicken 401(K) account has changed to Checking. How do I fix this?

  This is actually the second time this has happened to me, but I don't remember what I did last time (nor can I find the original forum post that helped then). I'm using Quicken Mac 2007. My 401(k) account, previously properly set up, has changed, seemingly irrevocably, to a Checking account. When I click "Edit" and try to change the account type, the 401(k) option is grayed out. I've got years of data stored in this account, so I am really hoping there's a way to salvage this data file!

• Mount drive at /Volumes/NAME/ or similar in Cygwin

  Hi.. I'm using Cygwin on Windows 7. When I plug in an USB stick, the drive automatically gets mounted to /cygdrive/x . This is good and really easy to use. My problem is that the drive letter changes sometimes, and when I've got remotes set up in git - I've got one called usb at /cygdrive/h/ - this sometimes doesn't work and I have to change the remote URL. That's just an example, there are other scenarios where I wouldn't want it to change. I like what the Mac does, and puts mounts a volume at /Volumes/STICK (STICK is the Volume name of my usb stick). Is there any way I can do this, or something similar under Cygwin. Thanks

  This is the Linux version of my Disabling mouse acceleration in Mac OS X question. Hopefully I'll get an answer this time. I am tired of mouse acceleration and want to have a completely linear mouse response. This is easily achievable through any of the 5 or so methods (some subtly implied) on the X.Org wiki page on pointer acceleration. However, they also disable velocity scaling. I don't want a 1:1 mapping between device and screen coordinates. I want a 1:N mapping where N is a constant. Any ideas?

• How do I turn of "auto-echo" in bash when I 'cd'?

  I don't know when this started happening but now, every time I cd to a directory it echoes the path right before it changes directories. This happens when I log into a server but doesn't happen on my local machine. The server is running Linux. My local machine is running Mac OS X. I searched the Google as well as looked at the bash man page but I couldn't find anything. My .bashrc/.bash_profile doesn't have anything related to 'cd' (that I know of). How do I modify this "feature"?

• Eclipse Juno Switch Editor in Order

  In case it matters: OS: Mac OS X Lion (10.7.4) Eclipse: Juno, Build id: 20120614-1722 I have several files open in my eclipse workspace as tabs. The default shortcuts for previous and next editors are ?F6 and ?shiftF6. I know how to change these shortcuts, that's not the issue. However, what I want to do, is switch between editors in the way in which they're ordered in the tab bar. Currently, the editors change in order of last used/viewed. So, if I had three files (A, B and C in order) open and I'm currently editing A and I edited B last, when I use the shortcut for "Previous Editor", it takes me to B instead of C (and vice versa). Is there any way for me to get this functionality out of eclipse (if so, how)? Thank you

• Something keeps deleting my downloaded files

  I have been using utorrent for years now and recently I was surprised that I had 24GB free. I thought that was because I deleted some unused apps, but after awhile, I noticed my Torrents folder was gone(I put finished torrents in my Downloads/Torrents folder) I thought I accidentally deleted it(I use rm -r to delete huge files) so I shrugged and tried to download those 24GB back(after banging my head for the sheer stupidity) This morning, I noticed that again, my Torrent folder was gone! This made me think that something MUST be deleting my torrent files. I am not sure but my hunch is uTorrent(so I just upgraded it) or something else entirely. This is getting frustrating, so I hope someone can help me on this. My only guess is when I do CMD + w (I'm on a Mac, OSX Lion), it closes the window and somehow deletes the torrents? I am downloading files again now and will try to document what I do the tomorrow so I can add more input here.

  My client has a XenServer 6.0.2 installation with 2 Window Server 2008 R2 virtual machines. Whenever the virtual machines are rebooted they lose their IP settings (IP address, subnet, gateway). Each time after a reboot I need to login to each VM via XenCenter and re-apply the required static IP settings. This causes issues with connected iSCSI drives within each VM - drives need to be reconnected after each reboot.
