• Netbeans / persistence API error

  I am following this tutorial, I'm using netbeans 6.5.1 http://www.netbeans.org/kb/docs/java/gui-db-custom.html When I get to the part where I create the "new entity class from database", which is in the "Customizing the Master/Detail View" section of the tutoiral. I can't ever compile because I get this error in the task list (and I get a runtime error when I run)... Atleast I think these two are related. Error Named queries can be defined only on an Entity or MappedSuperclass class.   Hello, I just like to give JSF 2.0 (MyFaces 2.0) a try using Tomcat 6.0. I am completely new to JSF. I just put a completely static xhtml as test.jsf in the application root. • Oracle rownum in db2 - Java data archiving

  I have a data archiving process in java that moves data between db2 and sybase. FYI - This is not done through any import/export process because there are several conditions on each table that are available on run-time and so this process is developed in java. Right now I have single DatabaseReader and DatabaseWriter defined for each source and destination combination so that data is moved in multiple threads. I guess I wanted to expand this further where I can have Multiple DatabaseReaders and Multiple DatabaseWriters defined for each source and destination combination. So, for example if the source data is about 100 rows and I defined 10 readers and 10 writer, each reader will read 10 rows and give them to the writer. I hope process will give me extreme performance depending on the resources available on the server [CPU, Memory etc]. But I guess the problem is these source tables do not have primary keys and it is extremely difficult to grab rows in multiple sets. Oracle provides rownum concept and i guess the life is much simpler there....but how about db2? How can I achieve this behavior with db2? Is there a way to say fetch first 10 records and then fetch next 10 records and so on? Any suggestions / ideas ? Db2 Version - DB2 v8.1.0.144 Fix Pack Num - 16 Linux

  Hi, I have a project that is using MVC areas. The area has the entire project in it while the main "Views/Controllers/Models" folders outside the Areas are empty barring a dispatch controller I have setup that routes default incoming requests to the Home Controller in my area. This controller has one method as follows:- public ActionResult Index(string id) { return RedirectToAction("Index", "Home", new {area = "xyz"}); } I also have a default route setup to use this controller as follows:- routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Default route "{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Dispatch", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); Any default requests to my site are appropriately routed to the relevant area. The Area's "RegisterArea" method has a single route:- context.MapRoute( "xyz_default", "xyz/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } My area has multiple controllers with a lot of views. Any call to a specific view in these controller methods like "return View("blah"); renders the correct view. However whenever I try and return a view along with a model object passed in as a parameter I get the following error:- Server Error in '/DeveloperPortal' Application. The view 'blah' or its master was not found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/Profile/blah.aspx ~/Views/Profile/blah.ascx ~/Views/Shared/blah.aspx ~/Views/Shared/blah.ascx It looks like whenever a model object is passed in as a param. to the "View()" method [e.g. return View("blah",obj) ] it searches for the view in the root of the project instead of in the area specific view folder. I've been messing with the super small, super easy Hello World sample and have already ran into problems. Heh.   I have a predicament related to terminology. Our system processes events. Events are dispatched to a node based on the value of some field (or set of fields). We call this set of fields the key. We call the value of that set of fields the key value. What adds confusion is that each event is essentially a bag of key-value pairs (i.e., a hash map). So the word key is used for two different purposes: 1) to describe the set of fields on which the event is dispatched, and 2) as a field name. So if you had a collection of key-value pairs, and a set of those key-value pairs made up a database-style key, what terminology would you use to distinguish those two? (One further complication is that the key on which the event is dispatched is not always unique. For instance, if we dispatch on userid, and that user performs multiple actions, we will process multiple events with the same userid value. So maybe key is the wrong word to describe the set of fields on which we dispatch an event).

• Parsing Line Breaks in PHP/JavaScript

  I have a text area in my PHP application where users can enter notes in a project. Sometimes this is displayed on the page via PHP and sometimes it is displayed via javascript. The problem is, if the note is across multiple lines (i.e. the user presses enter while entering notes in the text area), it causes the JS to fail. It's fine when it's being done by the PHP. The line of code in question is: var editnotes='<textarea class="desc_text" style="width:20em;" id="notes_editor"><?php print $notes; ?></textarea>'; So, if the note is over multiple lines, the PHP builds the pager as: var editnotes='<textarea class="desc_text" style="width:20em;" id="notes_editor">This is a test note over multiple lines </textarea>'; And this obviously causes problems for the js. So my question is, what can I do to prevent this? As the code is being built by PHP before it even gets to the browser, I'm thinking that the best approach may be to parse it in the PHP so that the output is something more like this: var editnotes='<textarea class="desc_text" style="width:20em;" id="notes_editor">This is<br/>a test note<br/>over multiple lines<br/></textarea>'; Will this work? • wcf callback exception after updating to .net 4.0

  I have a wcf service that uses callbacks with DualHttpBindings. The service pushes back a datatable of search results the client (for a long running search) as it finds them. This worked fine in .Net 3.5. Since I updated to .Net 4.0, it bombs out with a System.Runtime.FatalException that actually kills the IIS worker process. I have no idea how to even go about starting to fix this. Any recommendations appreciated. The info from the resulting event log is pasted below. • Implementing the ‘defer’ statement from Go in Objective-C?

  Hello! Today I read about the defer statement in the Go language: A defer statement pushes a function call onto a list. The list of saved calls is executed after the surrounding function returns. Defer is commonly used to simplify functions that perform various clean-up actions. I thought it would be fun to implement something like this in Objective-C. Do you have some idea how to do it? I thought about dispatch finalizers, autoreleased objects and C++ destructors. Autoreleased objects: @interface Defer : NSObject {} + (id) withCode: (dispatch_block_t) block; @end @implementation Defer - (void) dealloc { block(); [super dealloc]; } @end #define defer(__x) [Defer withCode:^{__x}] - (void) function { defer(NSLog(@"Done")); … } Autoreleased objects seem like the only solution that would last at least to the end of the function, as the other solutions would trigger when the current scope ends. On the other hand they could stay in the memory much longer, which would be asking for trouble. Dispatch finalizers were my first thought, because blocks live on the stack and therefore I could easily make something execute when the stack unrolls. But after a peek in the documentation it doesn’t look like I can attach a simple “destructor” function to a block, can I? C++ destructors are about the same thing, I would create a stack-based object with a block to be executed when the destructor runs. This would have the ugly disadvantage of turning the plain .m files into Objective-C++? I don’t really think about using this stuff in production, I’m just interested in various solutions. Can you come up with something working, without obvious disadvantages? Both scope-based and function-based solutions would be interesting.

• Maintaining state and data context between requests in ASP.NET + EF4

  I have a EF4/ASP.NET web application that is structured to use POCOs and generic repositories, based essentially on this excellent article. The application is relatively sophisticated with one page that involves selection and linking of multiple entities to build up a complex user profile. This requires access to multiple entity types (20 or so) and associated repositories across multiple posts. When a repository is first accessed it uses the existing data context if exists, else it creates a new context. The problem is that if the lifetime of the context is only per-request (as suggested in the article) then you have to deal with multiple contexts and the complexity around detaching and attaching entities from contexts. My solution is to share the context between posts by creating a single View Model that includes all required repositories (initialised to share the same context) plus any associated data and store this model in a Session variable, retrieving from Session on subsequent page requests. Therefore maintaining the same context across all posts until the profile is saved. This works fine BUT I am concerned that I don't actually know exactly what is stored in the model session variable or more importantly the size of the Session variable. So two questions I suppose: firstly should I look for a better solution to handle the shared context across posts issue (any suggestions welcome)? And secondly what is actually stored in the Session when it includes a repository plus context? Any help appreciated!

  I am working on a project for work and have seemed to run into a small problem. The project is a similar program to Web Nanny, but branded to my client's company. It will have features such as website blocking by URL, keyword and web activity logs. I would also need it to be able to "pause" downloads until an acceptable username and password is entered. I found a script to monitor the URL visited in Internet Explorer (shown below), but it seems to slow the browser down considerably. I have not found any support or ideas onhow to implement this in other browsers. So, my questions are: 1). How to I monitor other browser activity / visited URLs? 2). 'a' and 'b' are two shared variables, which are related to each other, so modification to them needs to be an atomic operation. A reader-writer system can be of the following types: rr ww r-w r-ww rr-w rr-ww where [ r : single reader rr: multiple reader w : single writer ww: multiple writer ] Now, We can have a read method for a reader and a write method for a writer as follows. For multiple writer system, shared variable access need to be atomic, so locked with 'm'. But, for system types 3 to 6, is my read_method and write_method correct? How can I improve? • asyncore callbacks launching threads... ok to do?

  I'm unfamiliar with asyncore, and have very limited knowledge of asynchronous programming except for a few intro to twisted tutorials. I am most familiar with threads and use them in all my apps. One particular app uses a couchdb database as its interface. This involves longpolling the db looking for changes and updates. The module I use for couchdb is couchdbkit. It uses an asyncore loop to watch for these changes and send them to a callback. So, I figure from this callback is where I launch my worker threads. It seems a bit crude to mix asynchronous and threaded programming. I really like couchdbkit, but would rather not introduce issues into my program. So, my question is, is it safe to fire threads from an async callback?   Here a simplified database layout One condo can hold multiple properties (flats, garage boxes, etc) - 1->n relationship One owner can have multiple properties in the same condo and properties can have more than one owner (m->n changed to 1->n with the junction table) One condo can have multiple owners - 1->n Some additional clarification: A owner is a member of a condo. A condo is made of properties belonging to owners BUT a owner is not linked to a property directly (there can be no relation between a property and a owner for a certain time BUT there will ALWAYS be a relation between a owner and a condo). Reason for this: the agent managing the condo will first create a list of owners and a list of properties. It is only later thet he will "link" each property to one or multiple owners (or inversely) I'm quite new to SQL. What SQL statements should I execute to: SELECT, for a specific condo (WHERE condition), the properties and their respective owners (all properties should be listed even if owners are null) SELECT, for a specific condo (WHERE condition), the owners along with their properties (all owners should be listed even if properties are null) UPDATE / DELETE existing owners (I'm uncertain about how to handle the operation for the junction tables. Should I first check if there is an entry in the junction table or not ?) UPDATE / DELETE existing properties (same concern) INSERT new owners (should I use two different SQL statements depending if the owner should be linked to a property or NOT - IF condition ?)   A user has sent in a crash report with the stack trace listed below (I have not been able to reproduce the crash myself, but every other crash this user has reported has been a valid bug, even when I couldn't reproduce the effect). The application is a reference-counted Objective-C/Cocoa app. If I am interpreting it correctly, the crash is caused by attempting to send a drawerDidOpen: message to a deallocated object. The only object that should be receiving drawerDidOpen: is the drawer's delegate object (nowhere does any object register to receive drawer notifications), and the drawer's delegate object is instantiated via the XIB/NIB file, wired to the delegate outlet of the drawer, and not referenced anywhere else. Given that, how can I protect against the delegate getting dealloc'd before the drawer notification? Or, alternately, what have I misinterpreted that might be causing the crash?
