• Blogger Blog Takes Ages to Load after Custom Domain Redirection

  I recently bought a custom domain for a blogger blog (technabled.com) I have for sometime now. I followed the instructions on blogger's documentation. I added A-name records and CNAME records with my DNS provider. But, now, some strange problems are cropping up. If I connect to my broadband network and then ping technabled.com, it times out. Then, if I visit the webpage, which takes almost one and half minutes to load, and then if I ping technabled.com, it shows expected result. This is not just me. I asked some of the regular readers, who reported the same issue. As a result of this, I am losing a lot of visits. What is stranger is that the subsequent visits to the blog is faster. I have checked with a few online services to test the performance. WebPageTest seems to say the same thing: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/110117_1N_7PE/ (please see the First View / Repeat View time) Also, the pagespeed score is not that bad. So I am ruling out other possibilities. I am at a loss as to what I should do to find a solution. Help is much appreciated. :)

• Samba issue with sharing directories on NTFS/FAT32 (Mounted Drives) ???

  Hi guys, I have some strange problems with Samba server. I am using samba Version 3.5.4 on Ubuntu 10.10. I have two windows-xp machines, one on VirtualBox on Ubuntu and another office laptop. Windows machine on VBox has no issues in accessing the shared folders, but the laptop is not able to access all the shared content. The issue faced on laptop is = Shared folders on Ext3 drives have no issues in accessing, but the contents shared on NTFS and FAT32 drives (mounted ones) are not accessible. When I try to open the shared folder, it asks for user name and password, but doesn't accept when I provide it. (even if I provide admin login details!!!). I changed workgroup value to the domain_name in office laptop, but still the problem persists... Here is the smdb.conf I am using... • How to get Nvidia graphics working on Sony Z laptop?

  I have an older Sony VAIO Z 590 laptop with switchable graphics between Intel and Nvidia GeForce 9300M. It is NOT Optimus. I did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04. Everything works, but it's using Unity 2D with the Intel drivers. I've tried loading the Nvidia drivers from "Additional Drivers", but it says "this driver is activated but not currently in use". When I run "nvidia-settings", an error window pops up to say "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X drivers." "lspci" shows both graphics cards. Let me know if I should add more info. How do I get the Nvidia graphics and Unity 3D working? • Dynamic quadrees

  recently I come out writing Quadtree for creatures culling in Opendungeons game. Thing is those are moving points and bounding hierarchy will quickly get lost if the quadtree is not rebuild very often. I have several variants, first is to upgrade the leaf position , every time creature move is requested. ( note if I would need collision detection anyway, so this might be necessery anyway). Second would be making leafs enough large , that the creature would sure stay inside it's bounding box ( due to its speed limit). The partition of a plane in quadtree is always fixed ( modulo the hierarchical unions of some parts) . For creatures close to the center of the plane , there would be no way of keeping it but inside one big leaf, besides this brokes the invariant that each point can be put into any small area as desired. So on the second thought could I use several quadrees ? Each would have its "coordinate axis XY" somwhere shifted ? Could you tell me if forcing the developers to learn NATO alphabet is a good practise, or if there are ways (and which ways) to avoid being in such a situation?

• How do I properly center Nifty GUI elements on screen?

  I am new to JME3 game engine but I know Android XML GUI layouts pretty good. I have a simple layout here and I cant figure out what is wrong.   Ubuntu 12.04. The first time I log into Gnome Classic I get a duplicate of every menu, panel indicator and taskbar entry. If I log out and back in again I now have three copies. Log out and log in, four copies and so forth. What would cause this? • 2 folders in Sys/Class/Backlight?

  ISSUE: Backlight brightness does not change. More Detail: Brightness will not change, using both 'System Settings-Screen', or FN keys (Brightness bar shows and moves, but screen brightness does not change). Notcied a post in this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1866283) about having multiple folders in Sys-Class-Backlight... I HAVE TWO FOLDERS TOO! 'intel_backlight' and 'acpi_video0' Using the function keys, alters the value in the acpi_video0's 'Brightness' file - But doesn't actually alter the brightness of the screen. If I add 'backlight=vendor' in Grub, my function keys then edit the value in the 'Intel_Backlight brightness file. - But again doesnt actually change the brightness of the screen. Computer: Fujitsu Siemans Pi2515, Intel Integrated Graphics, No hdd partition. Already Tried: -Editing grub to contain: acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor -http://ubuntuguide.net/change-screen-brightness-with-fn-key-in-ubuntu-11-0410-10 -sudo apt-get install acpi -$ sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=20 -Brightness does not adjust in fallback mode either. -Reinstalling OS, Using Linux Mint (Same problem). -Upgrading and downgrading BIOS. • Laptop battery charging capacity reduced to 52%

  I have been using Ubuntu 11.04 on DELL Inspiron 14R (N5010) laptop for last three months. Before I switch to ubuntu my laptop battery used to give 2.5 hrs to 3 hrs back-up. But since I have been using ubuntu, it has been reduced to 1hr to 1.5 hrs at max. I tried following commands: $ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state which gave result as present: yes capacity state: ok charging state: charged present rate: 1 mA remaining capacity: 4400 mAh present voltage: 12407 mV then I tried $ acpi -b the result was.. • Using onboard and pci-e graphics card at the same time

  Hello wonderful people. I know there are several other posts with similar questions. I also know how to use Google. I also have read up on posts discussing bumblebee, crossfire, ati catylist and many other interesting topics. I would just like someone to give me advice on how to use the onboard and pci-e graphics at the same time. I know the computer is capable of doing this. It works in Windows. I can use the VGA and DVI onboard port and the HDMI port of the add on card all at the same time. Works great in Windows 7, In Ubuntu, it seems only one or the other will work. I can use any combination of two displays on either adapter: VGA and HDMI..HDMI and DVI..so forth and so on. I have started experimenting with xorg.conf files, but have not been able to get any of them to work. • menu not showing in apps when maximized 12.10

  I have removed the Global App Menu as I prefer to have the minimize, maximize, close buttons on the right side of each app. I did this with no problem in 12.04. I did an upgrade to 12.10 and noticed that Chrome, Chromium and Firefox all use the Global Menu. I have done the following: sudo apt-get autoremove appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-qt I have disabled the Firefox extension. I removed the corresponding Firefox package but still only have a global menu. I tried Gconf but apparently that does not work in 12.10. I then tried Dconf and found this fix on Google: org gnome desktop wm preferences, look for "button_layout" on the right panel. Here is the problem, after desktop, I do not have wm. I reset Unity and got a message saying something about wm is missing. I rebooted and opened Chrome and still no fix. I then clicked maximize and once Chrome was not maximized anymore, the minimize, maximize, close buttons show up in Chrome. Same with Firefox! Any ideas? I am truly stumped. Firefox and Chrome work fine in KDE Plasma and Gnome when maximized.

• Freeze on Boot WindowsXP

  Ok first off I know I should have Windows 7 but i don't Its a really old computer and i'm not sure if it can run the latest OS of ubuntu but i'm trying any whay so here are my specs or what i could have gathered from the computer(viruses are every where and most of the drivers are gone) Specs OS WindowsXP(it isn't letting me know which one that is blocked) Graphics card(can't access device manger it is blocked also) graphics card is 2003-2004 era though ram 512mb last time i checked USB(Drivers Gone) Wireless Card(Drivers Gone) Lan Card(Drivers Gone) Audio(Drivers Gone) CD Drive (it runs and works but i can't check its properties that's blocked to) Computer Dell Inspiron 600m Good News I have the Driver CD for everything Bad News I Don't have the OS CD I know the Computer is trash but i want to flash it anyway and just install linux(ubuntu) The second problem is it doesn't even want to load the CD all the way it is just stuck at the Ubuntu Screen with all the bubbles orange and if i resart it just does it again. any help would be nice. EDIT: okay i tried the first comment and it said i need a firmware file from http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware the firmware is b43/ucode5.fw, b43-open/ucode5.fw is there any other way of installing this firmware without being in the Ubuntu because what I have read is I need to be in Ubuntu to do this...   To protect the privacy when I surf over the internet, I use AdBlockPlus add-in for Firefox. But when I use Internet Explorer 9, this add-in don’t work. Internet Explorer 9 (and I hope Internet Explorer 10) has built in feature to add a TPL. There is a javascript function to call named msAddTrackingProtectionList. This function has two parameter: the first one is the link of TPL and the second one is the Title of TPL. To do this is very easy. • DVD wont mount Ubuntu 12.04

  I can't seem to be able to mount my optical drive. I have tried numerous solutions from this site with no results. I am not able to see the device inside the file browser either. There is a DVD in the drive. I am running 12.04 on an HP g60-235dx portable. I have a link below to the specs. I will also list what I have tried (that I can find back right now.) I know the drive is functioning, because just before Windows 7 crashed and my MBR went fubar I was watching movies just fine. I am fairly new to linux, so don't assume I know anything. • Unity no longer loads in 13.04 for main user

  When Ubuntu starts up, Unity fails to load (I can only see my desktop with no unity sidebar and no system bar in the top right). I tried the advice of Unity does not start in Ubuntu 13.04 which recommended the following commands: dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ unity --reset-icons &disown I ran the commands without errors an restarted the computer, but the problem persists. I am currently running Gnome. I have looked at other pages from the Google search "ubuntu unity failed to load 13.04", but the advice was similar to above and seems to be concerned with a system upgrade in April 18, 2013. I suspect my issue is something far more recent. Please give me advice on how to restore Unity on my account or at least figure out what the problem is. Thank you. Some information that might be relevant: -Unity has worked fine on 13.04 for the 6 months that I've had it until today. (November 10, 2013) -I have set up the update tool to automatically update when available. It is very possible that the system applied some updates without my knowledge. -Interestingly, Unity works fine on the Guest account. -I have made it so the system automatically logs me in at start-up. -This is a personal laptop. No one else has access to it. -I was not doing anything with the system settings or the terminal and have not installed any new software for the past 3 days. -I am running the System76 native Linux laptop Ultra Lemur. I did not contact their support yet because it seemed unlikely that this is a System76-specific error.

• No operating system found even when grub2 was reinstalled

  I know there have been many variations on this question and have certainly tried to do my research. I don't really know what I'm doing so I would rather not take risks. I am trying to dual boot xubuntu and windows 7. I started out with xubuntu and just installed windows. Of course, the mbr got overwritten and windows didn't seem to recognize linux. So I booted to the live cd and rewrote the mbr. And of course, now I get the error "No Operating System Found" on startup. I have been restarting a lot and sometimes the drive letters change and make my usb into sda.

• Login Screen hangs after entering password

  When I enter my password in the login box nothing happens. It gets stuck. It was running fine earlier. I have installed gnome-panel and cairo-dock, after which, I logged out, logged back in, and choose gnome classic session. I also added a ppa from the webupd8.org to install the themes (link). I opened Ubuntu Tweak tool, and changed the theme to Evolve the whole laptop stopped responding. The keyboard and mouse were unresponsive. So I was forced to do a shut down. Now whenever it starts, I cannot login into Ubuntu. I hear the fan noise, as its spinning very fast, when the laptop freezes.(Probably the CPU is running at 100%). Please help me. How can I login back to Ubuntu? I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and have installed all the latest updates.. EDIT: I want to know how can I delete a folder from the file system using the live CD?

• Fresh Ubuntu 12.10 install no desktop or wing bar

  After a fresh installm of ubuntu 12.10 (complete erase) after logging in it appears i have no taskbar or much of anything, although i can still execute my terminal with CTRL+ALT+T. i looked around a little, seems i'm not the only person who has had this problem. I found here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12303179#post12303179 From there, i found myself here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates/+bug/1068341 I followed precisely the instructions provided which were: this problem is solved this way Switch to a terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1). Login as your username. Install linux source (sudo apt-get install linux-source) and headers (sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic). Uninstall nvidia driver - this depends on which version you installed (sudo apt-get remove nvidia-current or sudo apt-get remove nvidia-current-updates or sudo apt-get remove nvidia-experimental-304). Reinstall nvidia driver (sudo apt-get install nvidia-current-updates). If it successfully installs, restart the computer (sudo shutdown -r now). Source Desktop does not show when I installed nvidia drivers! I have rebooted, and i am still having the exact same problem. so i back at square one. can someone help me please? this is my room mates computer and i told him i was "fixing" it and now i feel like i've ruined it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

• How should I compress a file with multiple bytes that are the same with Huffman coding?

  On my great quest for compressing/decompressing files with a Java implementation of Huffman coding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huffman_coding) for a school assignment, I am now at the point of building a list of prefix codes. Such codes are used when decompressing a file. Basically, the code is made of zeroes and ones, that are used to follow a path in a Huffman tree (left or right) for, ultimately, finding a byte. In this Wikipedia image, to reach the character m the prefix code would be 0111 The idea is that when you compress the file, you will basically convert all the bytes of the file into prefix codes instead (they tend to be smaller than 8 bits, so there's some gain). So every time the character m appears in a file (which in binary is actually 1101101), it will be replaced by 0111 (if we used the tree above). Therefore, 1101101110110111011011101101 becomes 0111011101110111 in the compressed file. I'm okay with that. But what if the following happens: In the file to be compressed there exists only one unique byte, say 1101101. There are 1000 of such byte. Technically, the prefix code of such byte would be... none, because there is no path to follow, right? I mean, there is only one unique byte anyway, so the tree has just one node. Therefore, if the prefix code is none, I would not be able to write the prefix code in the compressed file, because, well, there is nothing to write. Which brings this problem: how would I compress/decompress such file if it is impossible to write a prefix code when compressing? (using Huffman coding, due to the school assignment's rules) This tutorial seems to explain a bit better about prefix codes: http://www.cprogramming.com/tutorial/computersciencetheory/huffman.html but doesn't seem to address this issue either.

Security Analysts >> CISOs >> CIOs - the focus is coming from the risk and security office - so what does that mean for the IT teams? 2. How important is mobile policy? 77% said "Critical" or "Extremely Important" - so this means mobile access policies will get a lot of attention.  3. When asked about the state of their mobile policies: Over 35% said they didn't have a mobile access policy and another 35% said they simply ask their employees to sign a usage agreement.  So basically ~70% of the respondents were not actively managing or monitoring mobile access. Be sure to watch the webcast replay for all of the details. Box, Oracle and RSA were all co-sponsors of the survey and webcast and all were invited to give a brief presentation at the end.

• How to connect Ethernet via a Huawei Smart AXMT880s modem (with auto-detection)?

  It's been well over six months but I have the same router SmartAX MT880d with Ethernet, and the exact same problem : no internet, even though I can successfully reach the modem settings page by entering 192.168.1.1 in Firefox. I'm a total beginner with Ubuntu. My internet works great in Windows but does not work in Ubuntu. Sorry if I don't use the right (technical) terminology to explain my issue. English is not my mother tongue. For 2 weeks, I've been doing reading on the web and forums and the ubuntuguide.org to name a few, but to no avail. Now I see no other solution but to ask for help. My problem is that I can't find a way to put the right digits in the right place because I don't know what numbers I need to put in what files. E.g.: do I need to use DHCP? or a static IP address? No clue whatsoever. I'm concerned that I might put figures in the wrong spaces. For example, is the modem/router's IP exactly 192.168.1.1 for Huawei Smart AXMT880d modem? Is the subnet 255.255.255.0? Gateway 192.168.1.1? I'm confused as I can also see a different IP starting with 155131*** (is it an account number?) on my contract with Huawei (a Chinese ISP). Apart from calling 911, what other numbers do I need to put in and where? How do I check that all the numbers have been entered correctly in every appropriate space before trying to connect the Internet?
