  • PHP mobile browser detection?

    I'm in need of a way to detect mobile browsers server-side. I'd like a way that requires me to do little to set up and little to maintain, yet still provide me with accurate detection of (at the VERY least) Android, Mobile Safari and Blackberry browsers, along with alternatives like Opera. I'd like to have at least the majority of the mobile market covered, and I'd really prefer virtually all of the market if it doesn't take much.

  • Connect to Oracle database on a different server from PHP

    Hello I have a database engine sitting on a remote server, while my webserver is present locally. I have worked pretty much with client-server architecture, where the server has both the webserver and the database engine. Now I need to connect to an Oracle database which is situated on a different server. Can anybody give me any suggestions?? I believe ODBC_CONNECT might not work. Do I use OCI8 drivers?? How would I connect to my database server. Also I would have a very high number of database calls going back and forth, so is it good to go with persistent connection or do I still use individual database calls?

    I am querying an API using SimpleXML which will occasionally fail for reasons unknown. I would like to have the script retry up to 5 times. How can I do this? I assume it has something to do with wrapping the object in a try/catch, but I'm not very experienced with this -- have tried to read the manual on exception handling but am still at a loss.     Hey guys, quick question for any experts out there. I am allowing users to upload and post mp3s so other users can listen to/stream. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for reducing bandwidth, or any tips or methods for streaming mp3s. I currently just reference the location of the file with my flash mp3 player after the file has been uploaded. I would ask about images as well, but I am pretty sure they can be compressed using gzip or mod_deflate

  • PHP FTP Upload thousands of files

    Hi, I've written a small FTP class which I used to move files from a local server to a remote server. It does this by checking an array of local files with an array of files on the remote server. If the file exists on the remote server, it won't bother uploading it. The script works fine for small amounts of files, but I've noticed that the local server can have as many as 3000+ image files to transfer, this seems to cause the script to flop and only transfer a 100 or so. How can I modify the script to handle potentially thousands of image transfer files?

This is how I want to do this: Lock the file Read the current count Increment it Write new count Unlock file/close it Can this be done? As I understand it, the file can't be written to without losing the lock. The only way I have come up with to tackle this, is to write a character using "r+" mode, and then counting characters.
