I will use answers to complete my initial list: About us / About MyCompany / MyCompany About / About us: description about the company, its mission, and its vision. History: summary of milestones achieved by the company. The team / Management / Board of directors: depending on size of the company there may be one of more pages describing the people involved in the company, depending on their position. Awards: list of awards received by the company if any. In the press / They're talking about us: list of links to external websites, usually highly regarded news websites, which mentioned the company in one of their articles. Media Wallpapers: wallpapers with company logo in different colors and formats that fans can set as desktop image for their computer. logos: company logo in different colors and formats that websites/blogs posting about the website can use for illustration purposes. Media kits: documents, usually in PDF format summarizing the key company figures and facts that journalists can download and read to get a quick overview of the company. Misc Contact / Contact us: contact details the company is prepared to disclose if any (address, email, phone) or contact form. Investors / Partners / Publishers: information and contact forms for companies willing to become Investors/Partners/Publishers or login page to access portal restricted to those who already are. FAQ: list of common questions and answers to guide users and reduce number of support requests. Follow us / Community Facebook / Twitter / Google+: links to the company's pages/accounts on various social networks. Legal Terms / Terms of use / Terms & Conditions: rules users must follow when browsing the website. Privacy / Privacy Statement: explanations as to how the company deals with users' personal data and what users can do about it (request information to be deleted...). cookies: page that starts appearing on more and more websites due to new regulation (notably EU) imposing more transparency and control for users about cookies (e.g. BBC cookie page). Is there any rule of thumb how high percentage is accepted by Google. Meaning when Google consider that page is similar than other one and will not index it. I' having two pages within same domain where "how to order" -information is similar and that's why percentage is about 70. Thx

  • How can I maximum compress video files?

    I received 4 .mov files from a client that they want on their mobile website via SlideShowPro. Each original file was between 200 and 400 mb. I've gotten each one down to about 30 mb using transmageddon as described here, but that's still really big for a mobile connection. Is there any way to shrink them even further? Maybe it's the settings; I used Output Format = MPEG4, Audio = AAC, Video = H264 (which is what is suggested by SlideShowPro.)

    We are in the process of having a web designer create a new website for us, but I don't want to give access to the control panel for the domain names (and have no way to limit it, it seems), while at the same time I don't want to be the go between guy for editing the settings. Is there a way or a service for me to point the domains at a 3rd party DNS system, that I can then give access for the web designer, without worrying that he can find my personal info or try and transfer my domain out?

    I have a page which i don't want search engines to index or crawl. I am not sure hat should i put in my robots.txt file to tell search engines not to crawl/index that page. The page it itself is getting generated dynamically and do not have a predefined template for it all i know about its URL which is pre-defined and will remain unchanged. I have this page say at www.mysite.com/my-nonindexable-page/ Please suggest what i should do to achieve this.I am using WordPress for my website

  • Curating projects of deceased friends

    A very good friend of mine, and an avid programmer, recently passed away. He left nearly 40 projects on BitBucket. Most of them are public, but a few of them are marked as private. I've decided to take on curation duties for the projects rather than leave his work to disappear. If you have been in the same situation, what did you do? Did you open-source everything? Continue development? Delete it all? I'm very interested to hear other people's experiences. There are a few reasons why some of the projects are marked as private (private projects on BitBucket are visible only to invited users and the original creator): One of them is an iOS web app that was free in the app store. I've had to remove the app from the store as I'm shutting down his web sites as a favour to his widow. However, I've already made the app public under the GPL v3 (he was a big GPL supporter). One of them contains proprietary code. It can't be open-sourced. Others are very much work-in-progress. I don't know if he intended to make them into hosted, paid services or if he wanted to give the code away under an open-source licence when they were finished. Here's a list of the private projects: Some kind of living cell simulator that uses SBML along with Runge-Kutta and Euler algorithms to do... something. There's a fair amount of code here but I don't know what it does or how far along it is. No docs. An accountacy application; it seems to have a solid DB design behind it but there's little code on top of that. A website whose purpose is to suggest good restaurants. Built on yii. Seems to have a lot of code but I'd need to set up a WAMP stack to see how far along it is. A website intended to host memorials to people who suffered from the same problem he was. Built on Joomla. I'm not sure how much of the code is just Joomla and how much is custom; again, I'd need to get Joomla running to find out. I'd just introduced him to Mercurial and BitBucket. All of the private projects are single commits of codebases he wasn't using version control with/was previously using SVN. I don't have the SVN repositories so I can't see the commit logs.

But,I need to list my site's pages in search results when searched with appropriate English words too. So I'm planning to save HTML meta tags (in English) in database and load them dynamically with appropriate page contents. Will loading the meta tags dynamically affect the site adversely?
