  • How do stop form posting to mysql if database contains a specific ID?

    I have a form that I am using to post data to mysql. Before submitting the form I want to check the database and see if there are any fields in the column 'customerid' that equal 'userid' and if so not to post the form. Basically, I am trying to limit my users from posting more than once. Users will be able to login to my system and make ONE post. They will be able to delete and modify their post but are only limited to one post. How would I do this???   • Drupal: $form['#redirect'] = FALSE; doesn't work.

    hi, I've tried to change the redirection when I submit my edit-node form, by addming the following line to my template.php file, in my theme $form['#redirect'] = FALSE; I'm sure the template.php file works well because I have other lines in which I change, for example, the weights of some elements. But the redirection doesn't work. I've also tried $form['#redirect'] = 'anotherPage'; without success. What am I doing wrong ? I'm following the Drupal APIs, about forms: http://api.drupal.org/api/drupal/developer--topics--forms_api_reference.html/6#redirect thanks

  • A Form(?) appears briefly outside of Form1 when adding a control to it

    I have a program which creates new Controls (actually - Form's with TopLevel = false) and puts them on a Panel which is on Form1. For some reason, this is usually followed by what seems like a Form appearing very briefly outside of Form1. It's hard to tell exactly what's happening because it's so brief. Perhaps it's Form1 moving there (and changing its size) and then returning. Or perhaps it's the Form that's being put on Form1 that appears there (though how could that happen at all? It's out of Form1!). I couldn't find anything in the code that might cause it, and the whole code is way too long to post here. (The relevant code is simply: MyPanel.Controls.Add(newForm);.) Is there any known bug that might cause this?

  • Can you ask Google how common a search is?

    I'm not familiar with Google Analytics but I think you can use it to see how many people get to your site using different search strings. But if you don't yet have the site, can you simply ask Google how popular a search is? For instance say you're choosing a new product name/slogan/etc. First of all, you want to see if that is already very crowded, which is easy through just Googling it. But now you might want to see if anyone is actually searching for this... an ideal situation would be to find a search-string lots of people are using, which doesn't put your competitors on the #1 spot. Is this possible? Not exactly programming-related, but closely related to web-development IMO... please vote to close if you disagree, I won't be offended!

  • Is it possible to put a form control on its own thread?

    I'm using a DataGridView and some operations that I do cause it to become unresponsive for periods of time. Normally I would put data processing in its own thread to make the form more responsive, but in this case it's the DataGridView itself that's taking so long. This leads me to wonder whether it's possible to have the main form on one thread and the DataGridView on another thread so it doesn't prevent the main form from responding. I completely understand that doing so is probably not 'safe' and likely opens up a can of worms that makes it hardly worth trying and I fully expect this post will be getting down votes for merely suggesting such a ridiculous idea. Is this possible? And if so how would you go about it?

    Why is it that Windows has so much difficulty in finding content on its file system? This is not an insurmountable technical problem; on my laptop, I have a database within which I can instantly find text or names within millions of records, within 300 milliseconds. I have a copy of Google Desktop that can find phrases within emails or documents, almost as quickly. It is an important, though mundane, part of an operating system to be able to find files. The first thing I notice within Windows is that the facility to find files or text within files is called 'search' rather than 'find'. Hmm. This doesn’t bode well. What’s this? It does a brute-force search for file names? Here we are in an age when we can breed mice that glow in the dark, and manufacture computers that fit in our shirt pockets, and we find an operating system that is still entirely innocent of managing and indexing content in hierarchical data. I can actually read the files of my PC into a database, mimic the directory/folder hierarchies and then find files in a flash; but when I do the same with Windows Vista, we are suddenly back in a 1960s time warp. Finding files based on their name is bad enough, but finding files based on the content that they contain is more or less asking for an opportunity to wait 20 minutes in order to see a "file not found" message. Sadly, with Windows 7, Microsoft seems to have fallen into the familiar trap of adding bells and whistles before finishing the song. It's certainly true that Microsoft has added new features and a certain polish to Windows Search 4.0, the latest incarnation. It works more like a web search and offers a new search syntax, called Advanced Query Syntax, which allows you to search on file author, file size, date ranges (e.g. date:=7/4/09still does not work reliably. I've experienced first-hand its stubborn refusal, despite a full index, to acknowledge the existence of a file I know exists, based on a search for a specific term within that file that I know is in there somewhere; a file that Google Desktop search, or old wingrep, finds in seconds. When users hark back to the halcyon days of Windows XP search, you know something is seriously amiss. Shouldn't applications get the functionality right before applying animated menus and Teletubby graphics, or is advancing age making me grumpy? I’d be pleased to hear your views, as always.   • Modifying Service URLs with LINQ to Twitter

    It’s funny that two posts so close together speak about flexibility with the LINQ to Twitter provider.  There are certain things you know from experience on when to make software more flexible and when to save time.  This is another one of those times when I got lucky and made the right choice up front. I’m talking about the ability to switch URLs. It only makes sense that Twitter should begin versioning their API as it matures.  In fact, most of the entire API has moved to the v1 URL at “https://api.twitter.com/1/”, except for search and trends.  Recently, Twitter introduced the available and local trends, but hung them off the new v1, and left the rest of the trends API on the old URL. To implement this, I muscled my way into the expression tree during CreateRequestProcessor to figure out which trend I was dealing with; perhaps not elegant, but the code is in the right place and that’s what factories are for.  Anyway, the point is that I wouldn’t have to do this kind of stuff (as much fun as it is), if Twitter would have more consistency. Having went to Chirp last week and seeing the evolution of the API, it looks like my wish is coming true.  …now if they would just get their stuff together on the mess they made with geo-location and places… but again, that’s all transparent if your using LINQ to Twitter because I pulled all of that together in a consistent way so that you don’t have to. Normally, when Twitter makes a change, code breaks and I have to scramble to get the fixes in-place.  This time, in the case of a URL change, the adjustment is easy and no-one has to wait for me.  Essentially, all you need to do is change the URL passed to the TwitterContext constructor.  Here’s an example of instantiating a TwitterContext now: using (var twitterCtx = new TwitterContext(auth, "https://api.twitter.com/1/", "https://search.twitter.com/")) The third parameter constructor is the SearchUrl, which is used for Search and Trend APIs. You probably know what’s coming next; another constructor, but with the SearchUrl parameter set to the new URL as follows: using (var twitterCtx = new TwitterContext(auth, "https://api.twitter.com/1/", "https://api.twitter.com/1/")) One consequence of setting the URL this way is that you set the URL for both Trends and Search.  Since Search is still using the old URL, this is going to break for Search queries. You could always instantiate a special TwitterContext instance for Search queries, with the old URL set. Alternatively, you can use the TwitterContext’s SearchUrl property. Here’s an example: twitterCtx.SearchUrl = "https://api.twitter.com/1/"; var trends = (from trend in twitterCtx.Trends where trend.Type == TrendType.Daily && trend.Date == DateTime.Now.AddDays(-2).Date select trend) .ToList(); Notice how I set the SearchUrl property just-in-time for the query. This allows you to target the URL for each specific query. Whichever way you prefer to configure the URL, it’s your choice. So, now you know how to set the URL to be used for Trend queries and how to prevent whacking your Search queries. I’ll be updating the Trend API to use same URL as all other APIs soon, so the only API left to use the SearchUrl will be Search, but for the short term, it’s Trends and Search. Until I make this change, you’ll have a viable work-around by setting the URL yourself, as explained above. These were the Search and Trend URLs, but you might be curious about the second parameter of the TwitterContext constructor; that’s the URL for all other APIs (the BaseUrl), except for Trend and Search. Similarly, you can use the TwitterContext’s BaseUrl property to set the BaseUrl. Setting the BaseUrl can be useful when communicating with other services. In addition to Twitter changing URLs, the Twitter API has been adopted by other companies, such as Identi.ca, Tumblr, and  WordPress.  This capability lets you use LINQ to Twitter with any of these services.  This is a testament to the success of the Twitter API and it’s popularity. No doubt we’ll have hills and valleys to traverse as the Twitter API matures, but hopefully there will be enough flexibility in LINQ to Twitter to make these changes as transparent as possible for you. @JoeMayo

  • Partial Submit vs. Auto Submit

    Partial Submit ADF Faces adds the concept of partial form submit to JavaServer Faces 1.2 and beyond. A partial submit actually is a form submit that does not require a page refresh and only updates components in the view that are referenced from the command component PartialTriggers property. Another option for refreshing a component in response to a partial submit is call AdfContext.getCurrentInstance.addPartialTarget(component_instance_handle_goes_here)in a managed bean. If a form contains required fields that the user left empty invoking the partial submit, then errors are shown for each of the field as the full form gets submitted. Autosubmit An input component that has its autosubmit property set to true also performs a partial submit of the form. However, this time it doesn't submit the entire form but only the component that triggers the submit plus components referenced it in their PartialTriggers property. For example, consider a form that has three input fields inpA, inpB and inpC with autosubmit=true set on inpA and required=true set on inpB and inpC. use case 1: Running the view, entering data into inpA and then tabbing out of the field will submit the content for inpA but not for inpB and inpC. Further more, none of the required field settings on inpB and inpC causes an error. use case 2: You change the configuration of inpC and set its PartialTriggers property to point to the ID of component inpA. When rerunning the sample, entering a value into inpA and tabbing out of the field will now submit the inpA and inpC fields and thus show an error for the missing required value on inpC. Internally, using autosubmit=true on an input component sets the event root to just this field, which good to have in case of dependent field validation or behavior. The event root can extended to include other components by using the Partial Triggers property on these components to point to the input field that has autosubmit=true defined. PartialSubmit vs. AutoSubmit Partial submit set on a command component submits the whole form and leaves it to the developer to decide which UI component is refreshed in response. Client side required field validation (as well as the server side equivalent) is not disabled by executed in this scenario. Setting immediate=true on the command item to skip validation doesn't help as it would also skip the model update. Auto submit is a functionality on the input components and also performs a partial form submit. However, in addition an event root is defined that narrows the scope for the submitted data and thus the components that are validated on the request.   • My blog which gets 300+ daily impressions has stopped appearing on the 1st page of Google

    I have a blog regarding Placement papers from December 2010. My monthly impressions are around 4000. For the last 2 days, my blog has disappeared from Google search engine result pages. Impressions have reduced drastically. Please check Stat reports: My blog is still on the search engine because when I search site: mydomain.com on Google, I can see my all pages indexed over there… But my pages which used to appear on the first or second pages of Google do not appear any more. Example: If I search with query GE round 2 code writing test on bing.com or Yahoo search, the first link on the result page is my blog. But if you do same on Google, my URLs do not appear even on the 1st 3 result pages. I used to get lots of visitors by these search query earlier.

  • Need help in filtering the data with various condition and filling in scroll window GP

    Hi all, I am filtering the data and displaying in scroll window. There are many combination to display this data by customer id, customer id and itemnumber, customer id, itemnumber, work and history condition. And from date and To date condition. My query is when I am selecting the customer id and work or history table it should display the corresponding data. Like select * from price history where customerid=’custid’ and name=’Work’. It should display in scroll only these values none other it the same way history condition should work. Work and History are in check box. In my case whatever range I am selecting whether Work and History always loading with entire data, so it’s not filtering properly. My second problem is if I select from date and keep empty to date …in this case all the data should display from selected from date to end of table data.   • Dual booting on separate hard drives

    I have windows XP professional installed on 1 hard drive and Ubuntu 10.10 on my second hard drive. On start up the computer completely skips the grub menu and boots straight into 10.10. I have tried running os-prober with the windows hard drive mounted and then updating grub but it didnt work. Any ideas? I have changed the boot order so that the HDD with xp on it is first however the computer still booted into linux. I tried running grub-install /dev/sda and got this /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Sector 32 is already in use by FlexNet; avoiding it. This software may cause boot or other problems in future. No error reported I checked using disk utility and the code for my xp hard drive is sdb so i ran the camand grub-install /dev/sdb shich gave me this Installation finished. No error reported. So i rebooted but it still didnt work. Any other ideas?   • When I shutdown the computer, it restarts

    I am creating a website with multiple sections--admin, client, user, and anonymous--each user group having less access then the next. I am wondering what form of authentication would be best for my use? I have heard the if you are just dealing with a websites then a web form is for you (because it's prettier). HTTP header authentication with PHP is said to get clunky/sloppy. htAcess is pretty much the hard core of various authentication methods I have looked up, but is it too much?

    I have sentences as shown in the below examples: $sen1 = "The quick brown fox jump KEYWORD over123 the3 lazy dog, fox is quick"; $sen2 = "The quick brown fox jump123 KEYWORD over the lazy dog, fox is quick"; i want to use the keyword 'KEYWORD' as my search string to extract the alphanumeric words before and after the search string using Perl regular expression. sample output: over123 jump123 NB: The word 'the3' is left out because i'm only searching for alphanumeric words exactly before or after the 'KEYWORD'.   • What is a best free way to make form resizeable in Delphi 7?

    I need my form in Delphi to be resizeable, and all components and controls should stretch proportionally, along with font sizes etc. Right now in order to resize components I write a code inside "OnResize" event, and manually calculate all components' sizes and fonts. I would like to have more simple solution, which I can apply to different applications without rewriting this code for each form. I found some components on the web, but they are shareware. Can you suggest something?

    Hi Experts.. Is there any reliable way to check if user has entered Arabic words into a form and tries to submit it? Can Javascript handle this? Or, only server script like .NET can do this?
