  • How do you have grayed out text in a textfield that dissapears when the user clicks on it

    In HTML & JS, how do you make a textfield that has grayed out text telling the user what the field is for that goes away when the user clicks on the field? For example, in firefox the search field in the top right hand side says which search engine it uses when there's nothing entered, then once you click it's an empty textfield, but if you leave it blank and remove focus from the textfield then the grayed out text is back again. Is there a name for this behavior? Also, is it possible to do in pure css without the use of js to do the on focus / on blur events?

  • How do I get a title or some text to appear in a Silverlight mediaplayer when switching to FullScree

    I am working on an ASP.NET website with VB.NET code-behind. I have a Silverlight mediaplayer object on one of the pages and the user may view that video in FullScreen mode. When changing to full-screen mode they are losing the title and chapter of the video series they are viewing. I have tried accessing properties and searched the web for examples on how I could put a title or some text over the player when in FullScreen mode to give the user an indication of where they are currently at while viewing each video. I am using OnClientMediaEnded to move through the videos after each video has ended so they are able to watch the whole series once in FullScreen mode. I am using a call to javascript in with this method to do that and want to know if there is any way to get a title or text up there and then change once the video switches to the next in the series? The controls on the player also go away when going into FullScreen mode so any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

    I've found numerous posts on stackoverflow on how to store user passwords. However, I need to know what is the best way to store a password that my application needs to communicate with another application via the web? Currently, our web app needs to transmit data to a remote website. To upload the data, our web app reads the password from a text file and creates the header with payloads and submits via https. This password in plain text on the file system is the issue. Is there any way to store the password more securely? Thanks!

    I got a project of designing a Database. This is going to be my first big scale project. Good thing about it is information is mostly organized & currently stored in text files. The size of this information is 50GB. There are going to be few millions of records in each Table. Its going to have around 50 tables. I need to provide a web interface for searching & browsing. I'm going to use MySQL DBMS. I've never worked with a database more than 200MB before. So, speed & performance was never a concern but I followed things like normalization & Indexes. I never used any kind of testing/benchmarking/queryOptimization/whatever because I never had to care about them. But here the purpose of creating a database is to make it quickly searchable. So, I need to consider all possible aspects in design.   • Python 3-compatibe HTML to text converter preserving basic structure under permissive licence?

    I am looking for a relatively simple HTML to text converter which displays links and works on strings. So far I have tried lynx but performance is too bad, html2text which gives weird and verbose markdown output and is under GPLv3 which is too restrictive for my (BSD-licensed) project, http://effbot.org/librarybook/formatter-example-3.py using htmllib.HTMLParser with formatter.AbstractFormatter and a custom writer, however htmllib.HTMLParser is drpeceated and has been removed from Python 3. So is there any simple, performant, Python 3-compatible HTML to text converter under a permissive license such as MIT/BSD/Apache and the like? Edit: I dont just need something to strip HTML-Tags but also to preserve the basic structure of the HTML, that is output that somewhat resembles that of Lynx.

  • Is there an easy way to do click-and-drag scrolling in text frames?

    I have a div with overflow:auto and a scroll bar, and I'd like to be able to drag the contents to scroll. I don't need to be able to select text. Is there an easy way to do this? A jQuery plugin would be good, otherwise plain old JavaScript would be fine. It seems I haven't made myself clear enough. There's a div with a fixed height that I want to scroll. Instead of picking up the scroll bar, I want to click and drag inside the text in the opposite direction. Like on an iPhone.     I am a C++/C# developer and never spent time working on web pages. I would like to put text (randomly and diagonally perhaps) in large letters across the background of some pages. I want to be able to read the foreground text and also be able to read the "watermark". I understand that is probably more of a function of color selection. I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to do what I want. I would imagine this to be very simple for someone with the web design tools or html knowledge. Any links or sample code? Thanks

  • Getting text after URL in asp.net / URL Rewriting (sort of!)

    My app is a very simple "one page" type app- It has Default.aspx I'm basically trying to get, for example: www.myappurl.com/this is my text I want to get hold of "this is my text" from the above example. This will be displayed on the page (for now) I didn't really want to have to use any complext url rewriting things for this... (My hosting provider uses IIS6) I tried using a 404 handler, but this is a bit long winded, and i'm using shared hosting, that can't set the "execute url" on custom 404 pages. Any other ideas?

  • How to set buffer size in client-server app using sockets?

    First of all i am new to networking so i may say dumb thing in here. Considering a client-server application using sockets(.net with c# if that matters). The client sends some data, the server process it and sends back a string. The client sends some other data, the serve process it, queries the db and sends back several hundreds of items from the database The client sends some other type of data and the server notifies some other clients . My question is how to set the buffer size correctly for reading/writing operation. Should i do something like this: byte[] buff = new byte[client.ReceiveBufferSize] ? I am thinking of something like this: Client sends data to the server(and the server will follow the same pattern) byte[] bytesToSend=new byte[2048] //2048 to be standard for any command send by the client bytes 0..1 ->command type bytes 1..2047 ->command parameters byte[] bytesToReceive=new byte[8]/byte[64]/byte[8192] //switch(command type) But..what is happening when a client is notified by the server without sending data? What is the correct way to accomplish what i am trying to do? Thanks for reading.

  • how can I get jquery.sIFR plugin to display sIFR-alternate text for print?

    I'm struggling with this. I've used the jquery sIFR plugin as opposed to sIFR it prevented conflicts with other jquery I am using on my pages. It works fine in its prime function: replacing html text with Flash. However, the .sIFR-alternate class is given an inline style of 'opacity: 0' which persists when flashblock is on. So alternate text does not appear. Neither does it appear when printng the page (yes I have included styles for sIFR-print). I've tried replacing the opacity:0 inline style with display: none but this causes height issues with the output flash. Any one else had this or have any ideas?

    I used the timing profile tool to identify that 95% of the time is spent calling the function CGContextDrawImage. In my app there are a lot of duplicate images repeatably being chopped from a sprite map and drawn to the screen. I was wondering if it was possible to cache the output of CGContextDrawImage in an NSMutableDictionay, then if the same sprite is requested again it can be just pull it from the cache rather than doing all the work of clipping and rendering it again.     I'm curious is it possible to change text properties of tick labels independently of axes properties. Do they have handles? I'd like to control their position better, alignment, color, fonts, etc. I know I can substitute them with text labels, but it has some drawbacks. Any alternative solutions? Particularly, is it possible to put xticklabels between ticks, that are irregular? plot(1:100) set(gca,'xtick',[30 45 53 70 95]) grid on I need to put xticklabels in the middle between grids.

Text is a string property data bound to the text property of a textbox and VerticalOffset is a double property data bound to the VerticalOffset property of that same textbox. I need to save the VerticalOffset before and after the hiding of selected text takes place, but with my code below both hiddenTextContainer.PreHideVerticalOffset and hiddenTextContainer.ImmediatePostHideVerticalOffset are always set to the same value no matter what. I have figured out that this is because the text of the textbox has not been updated by the time the code reaches: hiddenTextContainer.ImmediatePostHideVerticalOffset = VerticalOffset; Is there any way I can fix this?

    I have a div container where I want to put in a centered image and a small description to the right. The specifications are: The image should have a bottom margin of 35px. The image should always show fully on the screen, so it resizes when the screen does. It should have the biggest size possible, but never be cropped and never use scrollbars. The image should be centered with respect to the container, with the text showing on the right margin. The text should be left-aligned horizontally, center-aligned vertically and have a 30px separation from the image. I've tried using a table in the container and using divs, but I can't find a clean solution. I can show you the non-working code I've tried on request.

I would like the static-analysis tool (e.g. FindBugs) to report this issue. Unsuccessfully the FindBugs (at least by default) requires me to specify @Nullable annotation explicitly. public void m1(@Nullable String text) { System.out.println(text.toLowerCase()); // FindBugs: text must be nonnull but is marked as nullable } The problem is that if I forget to annotate it, the bug will be missed!!! How can I make the FindBugs (or any other free tool) to assume @Nullable by default?
