  • jQuery autocomplete: taking JSON input and setting multiple fields from single field

    - by Sly
    I am trying to get the jQuery autocomplete plugin to take a local JSON variable as input. Once the user has selected one option from the autocomplete list, I want the adjacent address fields to be autopopulated. Here's the JSON variable that declared as a global variable in the of the HTML file: var JSON_address={"1":{"origin":{"nametag":"Home","street":"Easy St","city":"Emerald City","state":"CA","zip":"9xxxx"},"destination":{"nametag":"Work","street":"Factory St","city":"San Francisco","state":"CA","zip":"94104"}},"2":{"origin":{"nametag":"Work","street":"Umpa Loompa St","city":"San Francisco","state":"CA","zip":"94104"},"destination":{"nametag":"Home","street":"Easy St","city":"Emerald City ","state":"CA","zip":"9xxxx"}}}</script> I want the first field to display a list of "origin" nametags: "Home", "Work". Then when "Home" is selected, adjacent fields are automatically populated with Street: Easy St, City: Emerald City, etc. Here's the code I have for the autocomplete: $(document).ready(function(){ $("#origin_nametag_id").autocomplete(JSON_address, { autoFill:true, minChars:0, dataType: 'json', parse: function(data) { var rows = new Array(); for (var i=0; i<=data.length; i++) { rows[rows.length] = { data:data[i], value:data[i].origin.nametag, result:data[i].origin.nametag }; } return rows; } }).change(function(){ $("#street_address_id").autocomplete({ dataType: 'json', parse: function(data) { var rows = new Array(); for (var i=0; i<=data.length; i++) { rows[rows.length] = { data:data[i], value:data[i].origin.street, result:data[i].origin.street }; } return rows; } }); }); }); So this question really has two subparts: 1) How do you get autocomplete to process the multi-dimensional JSON object? (When the field is clicked and text entered, nothing happens - no list) 2) How do you get the other fields (street, city, etc) to populate based upon the origin nametag sub-array? Thanks in advance!

  • PDF Form Field Manipulation

    - by 108039818756939362532
    I'm making a web interface to autofill pdf forms with user data from a database. The admin needs to be able to upload a pdf (right now targeted at IRS pdf forms) and then associate the fields in the pdf with data fields in the database. I need a way to help the admin associate the field names (stuff like "topmostSubform[0].Page2[0].p2-t66[0]") with the the data fields in the database. I'm looking for a way to modify the PDF programatically to in some way provide this information. Basically I'm open to suggestions on how I might make the field names appear in an obvious manner on a modified version of the original pdf. The closest I've gotten is being able to insert Tooltips into the fields in the pdf by just editting the raw pdf line by line. However when editting the pdf in this manner the field names are gibberish, and so I can't just use them. An optimal solution would be anything that could automatically parse a pdf and set each field's tooltip to be the fields name. Anything that can be run from the command line, or any python tool, or just a basic how to correctly parse a field's name from a raw pdf file would be amazing.

  • Jquery ajax auto complete problem

    - by squeaker
    Hi all, I'm having newbie problems resolving an ajax autocomplete script if anyone would like to offer advise? In my form i wish for users to select an event type (drop down box) which on selecting then displays a text box. This text box then offers a user the ability to autocomplete as they start typing, the options having been generated through AJAX depending on the event type selected. I'm using a mix of http://pengoworks.com/workshop/jquery/autocomplete.htm - to carry out the autocomplete and some basic jquery to identify the value of the event type selected. The problem I have within the code below is to pass the selected event type value, set as the variable 'caturl', into the 'extraParams:{cat:4}' replacing the 4 with the event type dynamically selected. Any help would be greatly received. $('#select').change(function() { $('.eventtype').hide(); $('#eventtype' + $(this).find('option:selected').attr('id')).show(); caturl = $('#select :selected').val(); }); $("#CityAjax").autocomplete( 'caturl.php', { delay:10, minChars:2, matchSubset:1, matchContains:1, cacheLength:10, onItemSelect:selectItem, onFindValue:findValue, formatItem:formatItem, extraParams:{cat:4}, autoFill:true });

    - by Chetan sharma
    I am trying to implement a dynamic search jquery and php, but I am not able to change the value of a javascript variable on my onclick event. <script type="text/javascript"> var main_category = '<?php echo $main_category?>'; var main_url = '<?php echo $url?>get/' + encodeURIComponent(main_category) + '/'; var container_id = '<?php echo $unique_id?>content_area'; //name $('#<?php echo $unique_id?>search_by_name').autocomplete('<?php echo $url?>get_autocomplete_data/' + encodeURIComponent(main_category) + '/names/', { matchContains: "word", autoFill: true, width: 310 });$('#<?php echo $unique_id?>search_by_name').result(function (event, data){ var url = main_url + 'search/title/' + encodeURIComponent(data); load_div(container_id, url); }); //on click of displayed categories $('[rel="<?php echo $unique_id?>sub_category"]').click(function (){ window['main_category'] = this.title; $('#<?php echo $unique_id?>category').html('' +main_category+ ''); return false; }); }); </script> It changes the value when on click is fired //on click of displayed categories $('[rel="<?php echo $unique_id?>sub_category"]').click(function (){ window['main_category'] = this.title; $('#<?php echo $unique_id?>category').html('' +main_category+ ''); return false; }); but when after that i add data for the search it still searches for the old category $('#<?php echo $unique_id?>search_by_name').result(function (event, data){ var url = main_url + 'search/title/' + encodeURIComponent(data); load_div(container_id, url); }); "main_category" value is not changing in the "main_url"

  • Excel VBA creating a new column with formula

    - by Amatya
    I have an excel file with a column which has date data. I want the user to input a date of their choosing and then I want to create a new column that lists the difference in days between the two dates. The Macro that I have is working but I have a few questions and I would like to make it better. Link to MWE small data file is here. The user input date was 9/30/2013, which I stored in H20 Macro: Sub Date_play() Dim x As Date Dim x2 As Date Dim y As Variant x = InputBox(Prompt:="Please enter the Folder Report Date. The following formats are acceptable: 4 1 2013 or April 1 2013 or 4/1/2013") x2 = Range("E2") y = DateDiff("D", x2, x) MsgBox y 'Used DateDiff above and it works but I don't know how to use it to fill a column or indeed a cell. Range("H20").FormulaR1C1 = x Range("H1").FormulaR1C1 = "Diff" Range("H2").Formula = "=DATEDIF(E2,$H$20,""D"")" Range("H2").AutoFill Destination:=Range("H2:H17") Range("H2:H17").Select End Sub Now, could I have done this without storing the user input date in a particular cell? I would've preferred to use the variable "x" in the formula but it wasn't working for me. I had to store the user input in H20 and then use $H$20. What's the difference between the function Datedif and the procedure DateDiff? I am able to use the procedure DateDiff in my macro but I don't know how to use it to fill out my column. Is one method better than the other? Is there a better way to add columns to the existing sheet, where the columns include some calculations involving existing data on the sheet and some user inputs? There are tons of more complicated calculations I want to do next. Thanks

  • How to merge jquery autocomplete and fcbkListSelection functionality?

    - by Ben
    Initial caveat: I am a newbie to jquery and javascript. I started using the autocomplete jquery plugin recently from bassistance.de. Yesterday, I found the fcbkListSelection plugin (http://www.emposha.com/javascript/fcbklistselection-like-facebook-friends-selector.html) and am using it to include a selector in my application. What I now want to do is to merge the 2 pieces of functionality since there are lots of items in my selector list. To be more specific, I want to put a "Filter by Name" text box above the facebook list selection object in my html. When the user types a few characters into the "Filter by Name" text box, I want the items in the Facebook list selector to only show the items that contain the typed characters -- kind of like what autocomplete does already, but rather than the results showing below the text input box, I want them to dynamically update the facebook list object. Is this possible and relatively straightforward? If so, can somebody please describe how to do it? If not, is there an easier way to approach this? Thanks! OK, to Spencer Ruport's comment, I guess I may have a more specific question already. Below is the current Javascript in my HTML file (angle brackets represent Django tags). #suggest1 and #fcbklist both do their separate pieces, but how do I get them to talk to each other? Do I need to further write javascript in my HTML file, or do I need to customize the guts of the plugins' .js? Does this help elaborate? $(document).ready(function() { var names = []; var count = 0; {% for a, b, c in friends_for_picker %} names[count] = "{{ b }}"; count = count+1; {% endfor %} function findValueCallback(event, data, formatted) { $("<li>").html( !data ? "No match!" : "Selected: " + formatted).appendTo("#result"); } function formatItem(row) { return row[0] + " (<strong>id: " + row[1] + "</strong>)"; } function formatResult(row) { return row[0].replace(/(<.+?>)/gi, ''); } $("#suggest1").autocomplete(names, { multiple: true, mustMatch: false, autoFill: true, matchContains: true, }); //id(ul id),width,height(element height),row(elements in row) $.fcbkListSelection("#fcbklist","575","50","4"); });

  • The Windows Browser Ballot Screen Offers Web Browser Choice to European Users

    - by Matthew Guay
    Since March, our friends across the pond in Europe get to decide which browser they want to install with their Windows OS. Today we thought we would take a look at the ballot choices, some are well known, and others you may not have heard of. Windows users in European countries should start seeing the so called “Browser Ballot Screen” after installing the Windows Update KB976002 (link below). The browser ballot offers a dozen different browsers, including some you’ve likely never heard of.  They each have some unique features, and are all free, and here we take a quick look at each of them. Internet Explorer 8 Internet Explorer is the world’s most used web browser, as it’s bundled with Windows. It also includes several unique features, including Accelerators that make it easy to search or find a map of a location, and InPrivate filtering to directly control what sites can get personal information.  Additionally, it offers great integration with Windows Touch and the new taskbar in Windows 7. IE 8 runs on Windows XP and newer, and is bundled with Windows 7. Mozilla Firefox 3.6 Firefox is the most popular browser other than Internet Explorer.  It is the modern descendant of Netscape, and is loved by web developers for its adherence to web standards, openness, and expandability.  It offers thousands of Add-ons and themes to let you customize it to fit your preferences. The most recent version has added Personas, which are quick, lightweight themes to let you personalize the look your browser. It’s open source, and runs on all modern versions of Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Of course thanks to Asian Angel, our resident browser expert, you can check out several articles regarding this popular IE alternative. Google Chrome 4 Google Chrome has gained an impressive amount of market share during its short time in the market. It offers a minimalistic interface and fast speeds with intensive web applications. The address bar is also a search bar, so you can enter a search query or web address and quickly get the information you need. With version 4 you can add a growing number of extensions, personalize it with a variety of stylish themes, and automatically translate foreign websites into your own language. Opera 10.50 Although Opera has been around for over a decade, relatively few users have used it. With the new 10.50 release, Opera has many unique features packed in a sleek UI. It integrates great with Aero and the Windows 7 taskbar, and lets you preview the contents of your websites in the tab bar. It also includes Opera Unite, a small personal web server to make file sharing easy, Opera Turbo to speed up your internet when the connection is slow, and Opera Link to keep all your copies of Opera in sync. It’s a popular browser on many mobile devices, and version 10.50 has a lot of enhancements. Apple Safari 4 Safari is the default browser in Mac OS X, and starting with version 3 it has been available for Windows as well. It’s based on Webkit, the popular new rendering engine that provides great speed and standards compatibility.  Safari 4 lets you browse your browsing history in a unique Coverflow interface, and shows your Top Sites in a fancy, 3D interface.  It’s also great for viewing mobile websites for the iPhone and other mobile devices through Developer Tools. Flock 2.5 Based on the popular Firefox core, Flock brings a multitude of social features to your browsing experience. You can view the latest YouTube videos, Flickr pictures, update your favorite social network, and keep up with your webmail thanks to It’s integration with a wide variety of services. You can even post to your blog through the integrated blog editor. If your time online is mostly spent in social services, this may be a browser you want to check out. Maxthon 2.5 Maxthon is a unique browser that builds on Internet Explorer to bring more features with IE’s rendering. Formerly known as MyIE2, Maxthon was popular for bringing tabbed browsing with IE rendering during the days of IE 6.  Today Maxthon supports a wide range of plugins and skins, so you can customize it however you want. It includes mouse gestures, a web accelerator to speed up pokey internet connections, a content blocker to remove unwanted content from sites, an online account to backup your favorites, and a nice download manager. Avant Browser Another nice browser based on Internet Explorer, Avant brings a wide variety of features in a nice brushed-metal interface. It includes an integrated AutoFill for forms, mouse gestures, customizable skins, and privacy protection features. It also includes a Flash blocker that will only load flash in webpages when you select them. You can also integrate Avant with an online account to store your bookmarks, feeds, settings and passwords online. Sleipnir Sleipnir is a customizable browser meant for advance users that is quite popular in Japan. It’s built on the Trident engine and virtually every aspect of is customizable unlike Internet Explorer.   FlashPeak SlimBrowser SlimBrowser from FlashPeak incorporates a lot of features like Popup Killer, Auto Login, site filtering and more. It’s based on Internet Explorer but offers a lot more customizable options out of the box.   K-meleon This basic browser is light on system resources and based on the Gecko engine. It’s been in development for years on SourceForge, and if you like to tweak virtually any aspect of your browser, this might be a good choice for you.   GreenBrowser GreenBrowser is based on Internet Explorer and is available in several languages. It has a large amount of features out of the box and is light on system resources.   Conclusion The European Union asked for more choices in the web browser they could choose from when installing Windows, and with the Browser Ballot Screen, they certainly get a variety to choose from.  If you’ve tried out some of the lesser known browsers, or think some important ones have been left out, leave a comment and tell us about it. • Autocomplete jQuery on User Controller within Repeater .NET

    - by TheDPQ
    I have a Multiview search feature on a Web User Controller that is called within a Repeater, OHMY!! I have some training sessions being listed out on a page, each calling an employeeSearch Web User Controller so people can search for employees to add to the training session. I have the Employee Names and Employee IDs listed out in JS on the page and using the jQuery autocomplete i have them search for the employee and populate a hidden field in the User controller. Once the process is done they have the option of adding yet another employee. So i had Autocompelte 'work' in all the employee search boxes, but one i do the initial search (postback) autocomplete won't work again. Then i updated $().ready(function() to pageLoad() so it works correctly on multiple searches but only in the LAST item of the repeater (jQuery is loaded on the User Controller) FYI: I have the JS string set as EMPLOYEENAME|ID and jQuery displays the Employee Name and if they select it throws the ID in a ASP:HIDDEN FIELD <script type="text/javascript"> format_item = function(item, position, length) { var str = item.toString().split("|", 2); return str[0]; } function pageLoad() { $("#<%=tb_EmployeeName.ClientID %>").autocomplete(EmployeeList, { minChars: 0, width: 500, matchContains: true, autoFill: false, scrollHeight: 300, scroll: true, formatItem: format_item, formatMatch: format_item, formatResult: format_item }); $("#<%=tb_EmployeeName.ClientID %>").result(function(event, data, formatted) { var str = data.toString().split("|", 2); $("#<%=hf_EmployeeID.ClientID %>").val(str[1]); }); }; </script> I can already guess that by repeating pageLoad within the User Controll i override the previous pageLoad. THE QUESTION: Is there a way around this, a way to have all the jQuery appear in a single pageLoad or to somehow have a single jquery call to handle all my search boxes? I can't move the jQuery into the page calling all the controllers because i have no way of referencing the specific *tb_EmployeeName* textbox AND *hf_EmployeeID* hidden field. Thank you so much for any help or insight you can give me into this problem. This is the Multiview that on the User Controller <asp:MultiView ID="mv_EmployeeArea" runat="server" ActiveViewIndex="0"> <asp:View ID="vw_Search" runat="server"> <asp:Panel ID="eSearch" runat="server"> <b>Signup Employee Search</b> (<i>Last Name, First Name</i>)<br /> <asp:TextBox ID="tb_EmployeeName" class="EmployeeSearch" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <asp:HiddenField ID="hf_EmployeeID" runat="server" /> <asp:Button ID="btn_Search" runat="server" Text="Search" /> </asp:Panel> </asp:View> <asp:View ID="vw_Confirm" runat="server"> <b>Signup Confirmation</b> <asp:FormView ID="fv_EmployeeInfo" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <%#(Eval("LastName"))%>, <%#(Eval("FirstName"))%><br /> </ItemTemplate> </asp:FormView> <asp:Button ID="btn_Confirm" runat="server" Text="Signup this employee" /> &nbsp; <asp:Button ID="btn_Reset3" runat="server" Text="Reset" /> </asp:View> <asp:View ID="vw_ThankYou" runat="server"> <b>Thank You</b><br /> The employee has been signed up and an email confirmation has been sent out.<br /><br /> <asp:Button ID="btn_Reset" runat="server" Text="Reset" /> </asp:View> </asp:MultiView> UPDATE: I never did find an answer but i had to do a demo so i hacked together something that 'works', but feels sort of cheesy. I am still very much needed of a better question or better understanding.

  • Excel Macro Runtime error 428 in Excel 2003
