  • java: useful example of a shutdown hook?

    - by Jason S
    I'm trying to make sure my Java application takes reasonable steps to be robust, and part of that involves shutting down gracefully. I am reading about shutdown hooks and I don't actually get how to make use of them in practice. Is there a practical example out there? Let's say I had a really simple application like this one below, which writes numbers to a file, 10 to a line, in batches of 100, and I want to make sure a given batch finishes if the program is interrupted. I get how to register a shutdown hook but I have no idea how to integrate that into my application. Any suggestions? package com.example.test.concurrency; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileNotFoundException; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.PrintWriter; public class GracefulShutdownTest1 { final private int N; final private File f; public GracefulShutdownTest1(File f, int N) { this.f=f; this.N = N; } public void run() { PrintWriter pw = null; try { FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(this.f); pw = new PrintWriter(fos); for (int i = 0; i < N; ++i) writeBatch(pw, i); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { pw.close(); } } private void writeBatch(PrintWriter pw, int i) { for (int j = 0; j < 100; ++j) { int k = i*100+j; pw.write(Integer.toString(k)); if ((j+1)%10 == 0) pw.write('\n'); else pw.write(' '); } } static public void main(String[] args) { if (args.length < 2) { System.out.println("args = [file] [N] " +"where file = output filename, N=batch count"); } else { new GracefulShutdownTest1( new File(args[0]), Integer.parseInt(args[1]) ).run(); } } }

  • BufferedInputStream.read(byte[]) Causes problems. Anyone have this problem before?

    - by K-RAN
    Hello! I've written a Java program that downloads audio files for me and I'm using BufferedInputStream. The read() function works fine but is really slow so I've tried using the overloaded version using byte[]. For some reason, the audio becomes lossy and strange after download. I'm not totally sure what I'm doing wrong so any help is appreciated! Here's the simplified, sloppy version of the code. BufferedInputStream bin = new BufferedInputStream((new URL(url)).openConnection().getInputStream()); File file = new File(fileName); FileOutputStream fop = new FileOutputStream(file); int rd = bin.read(); while(rd != -1) { fop.write(rd); rd = bin.read(); }

  • How to Upload a file from client to server using OFBIZ?

    - by SIVAKUMAR.J
    I'm new to ofbiz so try to keep your answer as simple as possibly. If you can give examples that would be kind. My problem is I created a project inside the ofbiz/hot-deploy folder namely productionmgntSystem. Inside the folder ofbiz\hot-deploy\productionmgntSystem\webapp\productionmgntSystem I created a file app_details_1.ftl. The following are the code of this file <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"> <title>Insert title here</title> <script TYPE="TEXT/JAVASCRIPT" language=""JAVASCRIPT"> function uploadFile() { //alert("Before calling upload.jsp"); window.location='<@ofbizUrl>testing_service1</@ofbizUrl>' } </script> </head> <!-- <form action="<@ofbizUrl>testing_service1</@ofbizUrl>" enctype="multipart/form-data" name="app_details_frm"> --> <form action="<@ofbizUrl>logout1</@ofbizUrl>" enctype="multipart/form-data" name="app_details_frm"> <center style="height: 299px; "> <table border="0" style="height: 177px; width: 788px"> <tr style="height: 115px; "> <td style="width: 103px; "> <td style="width: 413px; "><h1>APPLICATION DETAILS</h1> <td style="width: 55px; "> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 125px; ">Application name : </td> <td> <input name="app_name_txt" id="txt_1" value=" " /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 125px; ">Excell sheet &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;: </td> <td> <input type="file" name="filename"/> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <!-- <input type="button" name="logout1_cmd" value="Logout" onclick="logout1()"/> --> <input type="submit" name="logout_cmd" value="logout"/> </td> <td> <!-- <input type="submit" name="upload_cmd" value="Submit" /> --> <input type="button" name="upload1_cmd" value="Upload" onclick="uploadFile()"/> </td> </tr> </table> </center> </form> </html> the following coding is present in the file ofbiz\hot-deploy\productionmgntSystem\webapp\productionmgntSystem\WEB-INF\controller.xml ...... ....... ........ <request-map uri="testing_service1"> <security https="true" auth="true"/> <event type="java" path="org.ofbiz.productionmgntSystem.web_app_req.WebServices1" invoke="testingService"/> <response name="ok" type="view" value="ok_view"/> <response name="exception" type="view" value="exception_view"/> </request-map> .......... ............ .......... <view-map name="ok_view" type="ftl" page="ok_view.ftl"/> <view-map name="exception_view" type="ftl" page="exception_view.ftl"/> ................ ............. ............. The file is get from user " tag in the "app_details_1.ftl" file & it is updated into the server by using the method "testingService(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)" in the class "WebServices1". But the file is not uploaded. Give me a good solution for uploading a file to the server.

  • Take snapshot of drawing using FingerPaint

    - by Rashmi.B
    I am using MyView for drawing content on a canvas using FingerPaint API demo app. I want to capture whatever I have written on the canvas. But when I use View v1 = myview.getRootView() it is returning only the blank canvas and not the content. I want to save my drawing in SDCard. Following is my code. Let me know what do i need to change v1 = myview.getRootView(); System.out.println("v1 value = "+v1); v1.buildDrawingCache(true); v1.measure(MeasureSpec.makeMeasureSpec(0, MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED), MeasureSpec.makeMeasureSpec(0, MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED)); //v1.layout(0, 0, v1.getMeasuredWidth(), v1.getMeasuredHeight()); v1.layout(0, 0, 100, 100); //Bitmap b = Bitmap.createBitmap(v1.getDrawingCache()); myview.mBitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(v1.getDrawingCache()); System.out.println("BITMAP VALue = "+myview.mBitmap); ByteArrayOutputStream bytes = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); //b.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 40, bytes); File f = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+ File.separator + "rashmitest.jpg"); try { f.createNewFile(); FileOutputStream fo = new FileOutputStream(f); fo.write(bytes.toByteArray()); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } v1.setDrawingCacheEnabled(false); myview is an object of class MyView that extends View.

  • JAXB Web Services: Multiple Object Marshalling

    - by Luke Evans
    I can marshal and unmarshal 1 object with no problems (in netbeans); I need to know how to do this with multiple objects? I can't generate anything but null pointer exceptions when trying to unmarshal 3 objects into an array from XML; so I don't even know if I've marshalled the 3 out correctly. I know the basic idea of declaring the object, then using the jaxbu or jaxbm command, but I'd like to see this working for more than one object. **TLDR: How do I marshal/unmarshal multiple objects of a single class into/out of XML?? THANKS Code I have that marshals one object from XML: try { JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance ("myOffers"); Unmarshaller u = jc.createUnmarshaller (); myOffers.Offer flight = (myOffers.Offer) u.unmarshal( new FileInputStream( "offers.xml" )); System.out.println ("Airline is : " + flight.getAirline()); System.out.println ("Origin is : " + flight.getOrigin()); System.out.println ("Destination is : " + flight.getDestination()); System.out.println ("Seats available : " + flight.getSeats()); System.out.println("Proximity to City Centre is : " + flight.getProximity()); System.out.println("Currency : " + flight.fare.getCurrency()); System.out.println("Value : " + flight.fare.getValue()); } catch (JAXBException e) { System.out.println("Error " + e);} ok so the Xml is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <ns2:offer xmlns:ns2="http://simple.example.com/CInfoXmlDoc"> <Origin>Nottingham</Origin> <Destination>Istanbul</Destination> <Airline>Lufthansa</Airline> <Proximity>10</Proximity> <Seats>260</Seats> <Fare> <Currency>GBP</Currency> <Value>300</Value> </Fare> </ns2:offer> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <ns2:offer xmlns:ns2="http://simple.example.com/CInfoXmlDoc"> <Origin>Birmingham</Origin> <Destination>Cairo</Destination> <Airline>Monarch</Airline> <Proximity>15</Proximity> <Seats>350</Seats> <Fare> <Currency>GBP</Currency> <Value>300</Value> </Fare> </ns2:offer> public static void main(String[] args) throws FileNotFoundException { int i = 0; int arraySize = 2; myOffers.Offer offer[] = new myOffers.Offer[arraySize]; offer[i] = new myOffers.Offer(); offer[i].fare = new myOffers.Offer.Fare(); offer[i].setAirline("Lufthansa"); offer[i].setOrigin("Nottingham"); offer[i].setDestination("Istanbul"); offer[i].setSeats(260); offer[i].setProximity(10); offer[i].fare.currency = "GBP"; offer[i].fare.value = 300; i++; offer[i] = new myOffers.Offer(); offer[i].fare = new myOffers.Offer.Fare(); offer[i].setAirline("Monarch"); offer[i].setOrigin("Birmingham"); offer[i].setDestination("Cairo"); offer[i].setSeats(350); offer[i].setProximity(15); offer[i].fare.currency = "GBP"; offer[i].fare.value = 300; try { int n = 0; FileOutputStream f = new FileOutputStream("offers.xml"); javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext jaxbCtx = javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext.newInstance(offer[n].getClass().getPackage().getName()); javax.xml.bind.Marshaller marshaller = jaxbCtx.createMarshaller(); marshaller.setProperty(javax.xml.bind.Marshaller.JAXB_ENCODING, "UTF-8"); //NOI18N marshaller.setProperty(javax.xml.bind.Marshaller.JAXB_FORMATTED_OUTPUT, Boolean.TRUE); while (n < arraySize) { marshaller.marshal(offer[n], f); n++; } } catch (javax.xml.bind.JAXBException ex) { // XXXTODO Handle exception java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger("global").log(java.util.logging.Level.SEVERE, null, ex); //NOI18N } } Which was generated by my marshal code found here: public static void main(String[] args) throws FileNotFoundException { int i = 0; int arraySize = 2; myOffers.Offer offer[] = new myOffers.Offer[arraySize]; offer[i] = new myOffers.Offer(); offer[i].fare = new myOffers.Offer.Fare(); offer[i].setAirline("Lufthansa"); offer[i].setOrigin("Nottingham"); offer[i].setDestination("Istanbul"); offer[i].setSeats(260); offer[i].setProximity(10); offer[i].fare.currency = "GBP"; offer[i].fare.value = 300; i++; offer[i] = new myOffers.Offer(); offer[i].fare = new myOffers.Offer.Fare(); offer[i].setAirline("Monarch"); offer[i].setOrigin("Birmingham"); offer[i].setDestination("Cairo"); offer[i].setSeats(350); offer[i].setProximity(15); offer[i].fare.currency = "GBP"; offer[i].fare.value = 300; try { int n = 0; FileOutputStream f = new FileOutputStream("offers.xml"); javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext jaxbCtx = javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext.newInstance(offer[n].getClass().getPackage().getName()); javax.xml.bind.Marshaller marshaller = jaxbCtx.createMarshaller(); marshaller.setProperty(javax.xml.bind.Marshaller.JAXB_ENCODING, "UTF-8"); //NOI18N marshaller.setProperty(javax.xml.bind.Marshaller.JAXB_FORMATTED_OUTPUT, Boolean.TRUE); while (n < arraySize) { marshaller.marshal(offer[n], f); n++; } } catch (javax.xml.bind.JAXBException ex) { // XXXTODO Handle exception java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger("global").log(java.util.logging.Level.SEVERE, null, ex); //NOI18N } } Apologies, I'm fining this editor quite appalling but thats another matter.   • Create Zip File In Windows and Extract Zip File In Linux

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
    I had created a zip file (together with directory) under Windows as follow : package sandbox; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileInputStream; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.zip.ZipEntry; import java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream; /** * * @author yan-cheng.cheok */ public class Main { /** * @param args the command line arguments */ public static void main(String[] args) { // These are the files to include in the ZIP file String[] filenames = new String[]{"MyDirectory" + File.separator + "MyFile.txt"}; // Create a buffer for reading the files byte[] buf = new byte[1024]; try { // Create the ZIP file String outFilename = "outfile.zip"; ZipOutputStream out = new ZipOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(outFilename)); // Compress the files for (int i=0; i<filenames.length; i++) { FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(filenames[i]); // Add ZIP entry to output stream. out.putNextEntry(new ZipEntry(filenames[i])); // Transfer bytes from the file to the ZIP file int len; while ((len = in.read(buf)) > 0) { out.write(buf, 0, len); } // Complete the entry out.closeEntry(); in.close(); } // Complete the ZIP file out.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } The newly created zip file can be extracted without problem under Windows, by using http://www.exampledepot.com/egs/java.util.zip/GetZip.html However, I realize if I extract the newly created zip file under Linux, using http://www.exampledepot.com/egs/java.util.zip/GetZip.html, I will get a file named "MyDirectory\MyFile.txt" instead of MyFile.txt being placed under folder MyDirectory. I try to solve the problem by changing the zip file creation code to String[] filenames = new String[]{"MyDirectory" + "/" + "MyFile.txt"}; But, is this an eligible solution, by hard-coded the seperator? Will it work under Mac OS? (I do not have a Mac to try out)

  • Open mails in outlook from java using the protocol "mapi://"

    - by Goulutor
    I developp a Java application using Windows Desktop Search from which I can retrieve some information about files on my computer such as urls (System.ItemUrl). An example of such url is file://c:/users/ausername/documents/aninterestingfile.txt for "normal" files. This field give also urls of mail items indexed from Outlook or Thunderbird. Thunderbird's items (only available using vista and seven) are also files (.wdseml). But outlook's items urls start with "mapi://" like : mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/???????????????????????? The problem I have is opening the real item from Java in Outlook using this url. If I copy/paste it in the run dialog of Windows, it works ; it also works if I use "start" followed by the copied/pasted url in command line. The url seems to be encoded in UTF-16. I want to be able to write such code : String url = "mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/????????????????????????"; Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /C start " + url); I doesn't work and I've tried other solutions like : String start = "start"; String url = "mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/????????????????????????"; FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(new File("test.bat"); fos.write(start.getBytes("UTF16"); fos.write(url.getBytes("UTF16")); fos.close(); Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /C test.bat"); without any success. Using the solution above, the file "test.bat" contains the correct url and the "start" command, but the run of "test.bat" results in the well known error message : '¦' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Has anybody an idea to be able to open "mapi://" items from Java ?

  • Android: writing a file to sdcard

    - by Sumit M Asok
    I'm trying to write a file from an Http post reply to a file on the sdcard. Everything works fine until the byte array of data is retrieved. I've tried setting WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission in the manifest and tried many different combinations of tutorials I found on the net. All I could find was using the openFileOutput("",MODE_WORLD_READABLE) method, of the activity but how my app writes file is by using a thread. Specifically, a thread is invoked from another thread when a file has to be written, so giving an activity object didn't work even though I tried it. The app has come a long way and I cannot change how the app is currently written. Please, someone help me? CODE: File file = new File(bgdmanip.savLocation); FileOutputStream filecon = null; filecon = new FileOutputStream(file); // bgdmanip.savLocation holds the whole files path byte[] myByte; myByte = Base64Coder.decode(seReply); Log.d("myBytes", String.valueOf(myByte)); bos.write(myByte); filecon.write(myByte); myvals = x * 11024; seReply is a string reply from HttpPost response. the second set of code is looped with reference to x. the file is created but remains 0 bytes

  • How to test IO code in JUnit?

    - by add
    I'm want to test two services: service which builds file name service which writes some data into file provided by 1st service In first i'm building some complex file structure (just for example {user}/{date}/{time}/{generatedId}.bin) In second i'm writing data to the file passed by first service (1st service calls 2nd service) How can I test both services using mocks without making any real IO interractions? Just for example: 1st service: public class DefaultLogService implements LogService { public void log(SomeComplexData data) { serializer.write(new FileOutputStream(buildComplexFileStructure()), data); or serializer.write(buildComplexFileStructure(), data); or serializer.write(new GenericInputEntity(buildComplexFileStructure()), data); } private ComplextDataSerializer serializer; // mocked in tests } 2nd service: public class DefaultComplexDataSerializer implements ComplexDataSerializer { void write(InputStream stream, SomeComplexData data) {...} or void write(File file, SomeCompexData data) {...} or void write(GenericInputEntity entity, SomeComplexData data) {...} } In first case i need to pass FileOutputStream which will create a file (i.e. i can't test 1st service) In second case i need to pass File. What can i do in 2nd service test if I need to test data which will be written to specified file? (i can't test 2nd service) In third case i think i need some generic IO object which will wrap File. Maybe there is some ready-to-use solution for this purpose?

  • Best way to close nested streams in Java?

    - by dirtyvagabond
    What is considered the best, most comprehensive way to close nested streams in Java? For example, consider the setup: FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(...) BufferedOS bos = new BufferedOS(fos); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); I understand the close operation needs to be insured (probably by using a finally clause). What I wonder about is, is it necessary to explicitly make sure the nested streams are closed, or is it enough to just make sure to close the outer stream (oos)? One thing I notice, at least dealing with this specific example, is that the inner streams only seem to throw FileNotFoundExceptions. Which would seem to imply that there's not technically a need to worry about closing them if they fail. Here's what a colleague wrote: Technically, if it were implemented right, closing the outermost stream (oos) should be enough. But the implementation seems flawed. Example: BufferedOutputStream inherits close() from FilterOutputStream, which defines it as: 155 public void close() throws IOException { 156 try { 157 flush(); 158 } catch (IOException ignored) { 159 } 160 out.close(); 161 } However, if flush() throws a runtime exception for some reason, then out.close() will never be called. So it seems "safest" (but ugly) to mostly worry about closing FOS, which is keeping the file open. What is considered to be the hands-down best, when-you-absolutely-need-to-be-sure, approach to closing nested streams? And are there any official Java/Sun docs that deal with this in fine detail?

  • x86 CMP Instruction Difference

    - by Pindatjuh
    Question What is the (non-trivial) difference between the following two x86 instructions? 39 /r CMP r/m32,r32 Compare r32 with r/m32 3B /r CMP r32,r/m32 Compare r/m32 with r32 Background I'm building a Java assembler, which will be used by my compiler's intermediate language to produce Windows-32 executables. Currently I have following code: final ModelBase mb = new ModelBase(); // create new memory model mb.addCode(new Compare(Register.ECX, Register.EAX)); // add code mb.addCode(new Compare(Register.EAX, Register.ECX)); // add code final FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(new File("test.exe")); mb.writeToFile(fos); fos.close(); To output a valid executable file, which contains two CMP instruction in a TEXT-section. The executable outputted to "text.exe" will do nothing interesting, but that's not the point. The class Compare is a wrapper around the CMP instruction. The above code produces (inspecting with OllyDbg): Address Hex dump Command 0040101F |. 3BC8 CMP ECX,EAX 00401021 |. 3BC1 CMP EAX,ECX The difference is subtle: if I use the 39 byte-opcode: Address Hex dump Command 0040101F |. 39C1 CMP ECX,EAX 00401021 |. 39C8 CMP EAX,ECX Which makes me wonder about their synonymity and why this even exists.

  • Java - Save video stream from Socket to File

    - by Alex
    I use my Android application for streaming video from phone camera to my PC Server and need to save them into file on HDD. So, file created and stream successfully saved, but the resulting file can not play with any video player (GOM, KMP, Windows Media Player, VLC etc.) - no picture, no sound, only playback errors. I tested my Android application into phone and may say that in this instance captured video successfully stored on phone SD card and after transfer it to PC played witout errors, so, my code is correct. In the end, I realized that the problem in the video container: data streamed from phone in MP4 format and stored in *.mp4 files on PC, and in this case, file may be incorrect for playback with video players. Can anyone suggest how to correctly save streaming video to a file? There is my code that process and store stream data (without errors handling to simplify): // getOutputMediaFile() returns a new File object DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream (server.getInputStream()); FileOutputStream videoFile = new FileOutputStream(getOutputMediaFile()); int len; byte buffer[] = new byte[8192]; while((len = in.read(buffer)) != -1) { videoFile.write(buffer, 0, len); } videoFile.close(); server.close(); Also, I would appreciate if someone will talk about the possible "pitfalls" in dealing with the conservation of media streams. Thank you, I hope for your help! Alex.

  • Unable to access Java-created file -- sometimes

    - by BlairHippo
    In Java, I'm working with code running under WinXP that creates a file like this: public synchronized void store(Properties props, byte[] data) { try { File file = filenameBasedOnProperties(props); if ( file.exists() ) { return; } File temp = File.createTempFile("tempfile", null); FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(temp); out.write(data); out.flush(); out.close(); file.getParentFile().mkdirs(); temp.renameTo(file); } catch (IOException ex) { // Complain and whine and stuff } } Sometimes, when a file is created this way, it's just about totally inaccessible from outside the code (though the code responsible for opening and reading the file has no problem), even when the application isn't running. When accessed via Windows Explorer, I can't move, rename, delete, or even open the file. Under Cygwin, I get the following when I ls -l the directory: ls: cannot access [big-honkin-filename] total 0 ?????????? ? ? ? ? ? [big-honkin-filename] As implied, the filenames are big, but under the 260-character max for XP (though they are slightly over 200 characters). To further add to the sense the my computer just wants me to feel stupid, sometimes the files created by this code are perfectly normal. The only pattern I've spotted is that once one file in the directory "locks", the rest are screwed. Anybody ever run into something like this before, or have any insights into what's going on here?

    Hi, I am trying to send a byteArray from my .fla to my running tomcat server integrated in Eclipse. From flash I am using the following code: var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); var header:URLRequestHeader = new URLRequestHeader("audio/wav", "application/octet-stream"); var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://localhost:8080/pdp/Server?wav=" + tableID); request.requestHeaders.push(header); request.method = URLRequestMethod.POST; request.data = file;//wav; loader.load(request); And my java servlet looks as follows: try{ int readBytes = -1; int lengthOfBuffer = request.getContentLength(); InputStream input = request.getInputStream(); byte[] buffer = new byte[lengthOfBuffer]; ByteArrayOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream(lengthOfBuffer); while((readBytes = input.read(buffer, 0, lengthOfBuffer)) != -1) { output.write(buffer, 0, readBytes); } byte[] finalOutput = output.toByteArray(); input.close(); FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(getServletContext().getRealPath(""+"/temp/"+wav+".wav")); fos.write(finalOutput); fos.close(); When i run the flash .swf file and send the bytearray to the server, I receive following in the server's console window:: (loads of loads of Chinese symbols) May 20, 2010 7:04:57 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.http.Parameters processParameters WARNING: Parameters: Character decoding failed.
