  • JavaOne 2013: (Key) Notes of a conference – State of the Java platform and all the roadmaps by Amis

    Last week’s JavaOne conference provided insights in the roadmap of the Java platform as well as in the current state of things in the Java community. The close relationship between Oracle and IBM concerning Java, the (continuing) lack of such a relationship with Google, the support from Microsoft for Java applications on its Azure cloud and the vibrant developer community – with over 200 different Java User Groups in many countries of the world. There were no major surprises or stunning announcements. Java EE 7 (release in June) was celebrated, the progress of Java 8 SE explained as well as the progress on Java Embedded and ME. The availability of NetBeans 7.4 RC1 and JDK 8 Early Adopters release as well as the open sourcing of project Avatar probably were the only real news stories. The convergence of JavaFX and Java SE is almost complete; the upcoming alignment of Java SE Embedded and Java ME is the next big consolidation step that will lead to a unified platform where developers can use the same skills, development tools and APIs on EE, SE, SE Embedded and ME development. This means that anything that runs on ME will run on SE (Embedded) and EE – not necessarily the reverse because not all SE APIs are part of the compact profile or the ME environment. However, the trimming down of the SE libraries and the increased capabilities of devices mean that a pretty rich JVM runs on many devices – such as JavaFX 8 on the Raspberry PI. The major theme of the conference was Internet of Things. A world of things that are smart and connected, devices like sensors, cameras and equipment from cars, fridges and television sets to printers, security gates and kiosks that all run Java and are all capable of sending data over local network connections or directly over the internet. The number of devices that has these capabilities is rapidly growing. This means that the number of places where Java programs can help program the behavior of devices is growing too. It also means that the volume of data generated is expanding and that we have to find ways to harvest that data, possibly do a local pre-processing (filter, aggregate) and channel the data to back end systems. Terms typically used are edge devices (small, simple, publishing data), gateways (receiving data from many devices, collecting and consolidating, pre-processing, sending onwards to back end – typically using real time event processing) and enterprise services – receiving the data-turned-information from the gateways to further consolidate, distribute and act upon. A cheap device like the Raspberry PI is a perfect way to get started as a Java developer with what embedded (device) programming means and how interaction with physical input and output takes place.   • How to configure network on Windows Server 2008

    I have a IBM x3400 Server Machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on it. But, since I am not expert on networking I have some problems. These roles installed on my server: Active Directory DNS File Sharing Hyper-V ISS VPN There is two network card on them. I configured them like this: Local Connection 1: 192.168.30.3 255.255.255.0 192.168.30.2 127.0.0.1 Local Connection 2: 192.168.30.101 255.255.255.0 192.168.30.6 127.0.0.1 My problem is, when I use this Ip gateways, It is sharing internet to all computers. This is not I want. I want to use Local Connection 1 for internal network. I am giving all computers gateway and DNS IP as 192.168.30.3 The Local Connection 2 is for Hyper-V and VPN connections. 192.168.30.2 and 192.168.30.6 are my modem's gateways. I am using 192.168.30.6 external IP for VPN connections. There is two 24 port switches. There is a connection between them and this two ethernet card connected directly to them. And modems are connected to switches as well (Morems are not near the server. They are somewhere in the building). I disabled network Bridge and removed all ethernet cards from it. With this configuration, all computers can ping my server's IP (192.168.30.3) but on server I cannot ping any clients (Request timeout). What is the best way to configure my network? Thank you.   • Subscription Management with Merchant Account via API

    I'm researching gateways/vendors that provide the ability to create subscription based transitions for merchant accounts. In other words, I want to allow customers to signup for a subscription for a website service that charges once a month. Authorize.Net has an ARB (Automated Recurring Billing) Module. The cost is cheap, $10 a month for the service, with unlimited subscriptions, and they have an API that allows XML or SOAP access to create, update and cancel. The LARGE negative of the service is that it doesn't have elegant way to obtain the current status of a subscription. They can send a daily email with an attached CSV file, or someone can login into the site and review statuses – neither is an enterprise solution. The parent company "CyberSource" has a "Recurring Billing Service" which implies a more robust solution, including API access to subscription information. I’m currently waiting for a sales call back on costs related to the service. I also looked at PayPal's Recurring Billing Service, but that appears to require that users are redirected to the PayPal site to signup for the subscription -- again, not an an elegant solution. Does anyone know of any other vendors/gateways that offer subscription service, that meet the following criteria: Vendor/Gateway must host the credit card number and be PCI compliant Have an API that accessible via a Web Service, Post over HTTPS or SOAP Have an API that allows querying the status of subscriptions and/or the ability to query for activity since a certain date.   • Incoming connections from 2 different Internet connections

    I am hosting a Gameserver on my Windows 2003 Server 32 Bit Server. Due to some limitations of my ISP, I have to take 2 Internet connections in order to satisfy my bandwidth requirement. I am facing serious problems here. The Internet is supplied using Wimax. I am given a POE and the RJ45 from both the POE (2 connections) are plugged into a Netgear 100mbps Switch and another RJ45 connects the server to the switch. I have tried to configure the IP addresses and gateway of both connections to the single NIC in the server. The IP series and the gateway of each Internet connection are very much different. I know that this is not the proper approach, because alternate gateways are meant to be only for backup in case of main gateway failure and the usage of the gateways depends upon the metric (correct me if I am wrong). I am planning to get a second PCI NIC so that I can connect each of the Internet connections into its respective NIC. If I use this approach, will I be able to accept connections on both NICs? Also, please suggest any other alternatives that I might use.

  • Differences in ansychronous VB.NET and C#???

    So I've been posting this week for help with an API that has asynchronous calls. You can view the CODE here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2638920/c-asynchronous-event-procedure-does-not-fire With a little more digging, I found out that the API is written in VB.NET and I created a VB.NET example and guess what . . . the asynchronous calls work like a charm. So, now I need to find out why the calls are not firing in the C# code I have. The API being written in VB really shouldn't matter, but again, the VB.NET code works and my C# does not. Is there a problem with the event handler and hows its being declared that causes it to not fire?   • Block all but http traffic on a network interface

    I've got two network interfaces on an Ubuntu machine which go out to two different networks but both have internet gateways. I need to limit it so that any outgoing http requests it makes (ie through wget) only go through eth0 and all other traffic goes through eth1. I dare say the solution might have something to do with iptables but I've no experience with it so would appreciate all help.

  • I used route delete 0.0.0.0 in Windows 7 and now i can't connect to my adsl internet

    I was looking for a way to portfoward 0.0.0.0 default gateways and I found in a Microsoft page that I had to try the command route delete 0.0.0.0, my internet disconnected and I couldn't connect to the internet anymore... Does anyone have a solution? It's an ADSL Modem. I have: Windows 7 x32 4 GB ram A kanji modem that has this problem too... It's like Windows doesn't detect the wireless adapter, so it won't connect to the internet.

    I see that mailman can operate as gateway: Try mailman. Create a new list for each newsgroup that you read and then configure the lists as mail<-news gateways. Subscribe yourself to the lists. Viola. Instant NNTP-via-SMTP. http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2003/08/msg00522.html What alternatives are there to mailman for this functionality? I see that others have asked this, or something similar.

  • Gateway IP for eth0 and gateway IP for pptp vpn are same

    My problem is.. 1) I'm using laptop at school. 2) In school, the default gateway for ethernet is 192.168.1.1. 3) I want to connect to a pptp vpn server. The gateway over the vpn connection is also 192.68.1.1. (The VPN server assigns 192.168.100.1 to my laptop and I confirmed that it is not used in school.) In this situation, there is no problem in Windows 7. I think it is enough smart to distinguish two different gateways with the same IP. All connection requests may be forwarded to the vpn gateway. But, in Ubuntu, I cannot access a file server in the remote site. I guess every connection request is forwarded to the ethernet gateway. How can I send all connection requests to the vpn gateway whose IP is same as the ethernet gateway?

    Is there a service or site out there that will store cardholder data for me? I don't need any kind of transaction processing or recurring billing... I just need somewhere that I can store data on until someone in my company is able to look at it. The specific need is allowing customers to input data that will be used for credit checks. Name, Address, Credit Card(s), and the such. Google Checkout, PayPal, NetSuite, and Authorize.net seem to be what everyone suggests to me, but they don't offer what I need -- they're just payment gateways.

What are some good payment processors or payment gateways that make setting up an affiliate system easy and fast? Clarification - When someone purchases an item, I want (whatever the payment processor is) to automatically route a percentage of that payment to the affiliate and the rest to the original author.) Are there any payment frameworks that already do this? I've found a few sites that let you do this, but they seem to restrict you to digital purchases only. However, my sites is selling a ship-able product and the affiliate system needs to support this.

(i will use a video hosting platform with api like fliqz.com) I must manage a big user system.. where users can create their own "sub-users"... the site must manage paid subscriptions and payments through paypal.. and other payment gateways... So the question is.. i have to use a pre-built CMS and extend it.. or just a good framework? I've been thinking about joomla, drupal and expressionengine... It's not neccesary to use a open source cms... I've looking at drupal.. but is not as easy to understand and extend... Can anyone help me to make a good decision?

  • Magento not responding to payment gateway notifications fast enough or at all?

    Some of our customers are getting to the confirmation of payment step in purchasing from our Magento store, and then they are getting a timeout error, where the SagePay payment gateway is trying to contact our server to tell it that a payment was successful (or not…) but it cannot contact our server, or cannot get a response from our server in a timely manner, and then the payment/order is being cancelled. I've raised this question to my hosting company, but all they told me was: "This is down to the way the software is configured on your server" This is currently a Magento 1.4.0.1 standard installation as far as payment gateways are concerned. What on earth could this statement mean? Is there some configuration that I need to do to make Magento listen to these requests and respond properly?

    I am building myself a new website, out of privacy and security concerns I am contemplating trying to make it https only. It will be mobile-friendly using media queries but I am concerned--especially for mobile users--about the increased bandwidth. How much will doing so increase my bandwidth or slow load times? For pages where I'm not transferring sensitive information, should I leave external links (to a jQuery library, or a web font for instance) in http? Simply put, I have read articles saying the entire web would be more secure if everything was SSL but my actual knowledge of implementation is limited to payment gateways and log-in pages and such. I apologize for the open-ended nature of the question but anything, even just simple answers to the specific questions is welcomed.

In reference to the answer of this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1179854/limitations-on-sms-messages-sent-using-free-email-sms-gateways is there any websites or other resources that list the format that is delivered for each carrier. ATT for example delivers the SMS with some added formatting that is not present with T-Mobile. I realize this is not a coding question, but since I can only see this question arising for someone that is creating email to SMS specific applications, it seems relevant to SO.

  • SPF Failure sending sms message to sms.mycricket.com

    I built an asp.net application that sends text messages to our employees using carrier-provided email to SMS gateways. The people on Cricket (sms.mycricket.com) are the only ones that are bouncing with a return message like this: Unknown address error SPF FAILURE/Sender has no SPF records: SEE RFC 4408 - FROM check failed: Received: from unknown (HELO servername.domainname.com) ([ipaddress]) by .... with ESMTP/TLS/DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA; 14 Nov 2012 06:22:56 -0600 From my research it looks like we may need to setup something in DNS for the Sender Policy Framework.   • Using a TS-Gateway through a Apache reverse-proxy

    Hey all, I've set up a Windows 2008 server as Terminal Services Gateway, to funnel the RDP access to a bunch of backend servers. However, since I only need to publish SSL to the "outside", I've tried to publish it with our reverse proxy, but it's not working. The Apache box is timing out, while trying to reach the tsgateway. However, if I ping it straight from the same box, there is connectivity. I've read a bit, and with ISA 2006 you can publish TS-Gateways on the internet, so I was wondering it anyone ever got it working with an Apache reverse proxy instead :)

  • What does it mean when ARP shows <incomplete> on eth1

    We have been using HAProxy along with heartbeat from the Linux-HA project. We are using two linux instances to provide a failover. Each server has with their own public IP and a single IP which is shared between the two using a virtual interface (eth1:1) at IP: 69.59.196.211 The virtual interface (eth1:1) IP 69.59.196.211 is configured as the gateway for the windows servers behind them and we use ip_forwarding to route traffic. We are experiencing an occasional network outage on one of our windows servers behind our linux gateways. HAProxy will detect the server is offline which we can verify by remoting to the failed server and attempting to ping the gateway: Pinging 69.59.196.211 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 69.59.196.220: Destination host unreachable. Swapping network cards and switches I noticed the link light on the port of the switch for the failed windows server was running at 100Mb instead of 1Gb on the failed interface. I moved the cable to several other open ports and the link indicated 100Mb for each port that I tried. I also swapped the cable with the same result. I tried changing the properties of the network card in windows and the server locked up and required a hard reset after clicking apply. This windows server has two physical network interfaces so I have swapped the cables and network settings on the two interfaces to see if the problem follows the interface. If the public interface goes down again we will know that it is not an issue with the network card. (We also tried another switch we have on hand, no change) Changing network hardware driver versions We've had the same problem with the latest Broadcom driver, as well as the built-in driver that ships in Windows Server 2008 R2. Replacing network cables As a last ditch effort we remembered another change that occurred was the replacement of all of the patch cords between our servers / switch. We had purchased two sets, one green of lengths 1ft - 3ft for the private interfaces and another set of red cables for the public interfaces. We swapped out all of the public interface patch cables with a different brand and ran our servers without issue for a full week ... aaaaaand then the problem recurred. Disable checksum offload, remove TProxy We also tried disabling TCP/IP checksum offload in the driver, no change. We're now pulling out TProxy and moving to a more traditional x-forwarded-for network arrangement without any fancy IP address rewriting. We'll see if that helps.
