  • Django - no module named app

    - by Koran
Hi, I have been trying to get an application written in django working - but it is not working at all. I have been working on for some time too - and it is working on dev-server perfectly. But I am unable to put in the production env (apahce). My project name is apstat and the app name is basic. I try to access it as following Blockquote http://hostname/apstat But it shows the following error: MOD_PYTHON ERROR ProcessId: 6002 Interpreter: 'domU-12-31-39-06-DD-F4.compute-1.internal' ServerName: 'domU-12-31-39-06-DD-F4.compute-1.internal' DocumentRoot: '/home/ubuntu/server/' URI: '/apstat/' Location: '/apstat' Directory: None Filename: '/home/ubuntu/server/apstat/' PathInfo: '' Phase: 'PythonHandler' Handler: 'django.core.handlers.modpython' Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/mod_python/importer.py", line 1537, in HandlerDispatch default=default_handler, arg=req, silent=hlist.silent) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/mod_python/importer.py", line 1229, in _process_target result = _execute_target(config, req, object, arg) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/mod_python/importer.py", line 1128, in _execute_target result = object(arg) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/core/handlers/modpython.py", line 228, in handler return ModPythonHandler()(req) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/core/handlers/modpython.py", line 201, in __call__ response = self.get_response(request) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 134, in get_response return self.handle_uncaught_exception(request, resolver, exc_info) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 154, in handle_uncaught_exception return debug.technical_500_response(request, *exc_info) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/views/debug.py", line 40, in technical_500_response html = reporter.get_traceback_html() File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/views/debug.py", line 114, in get_traceback_html return t.render(c) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 178, in render return self.nodelist.render(context) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 779, in render bits.append(self.render_node(node, context)) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/template/debug.py", line 81, in render_node raise wrapped TemplateSyntaxError: Caught an exception while rendering: No module named basic Original Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/template/debug.py", line 71, in render_node result = node.render(context) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/template/debug.py", line 87, in render output = force_unicode(self.filter_expression.resolve(context)) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 572, in resolve new_obj = func(obj, *arg_vals) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/template/defaultfilters.py", line 687, in date return format(value, arg) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/dateformat.py", line 269, in format return df.format(format_string) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/dateformat.py", line 30, in format pieces.append(force_unicode(getattr(self, piece)())) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/dateformat.py", line 175, in r return self.format('D, j M Y H:i:s O') File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/dateformat.py", line 30, in format pieces.append(force_unicode(getattr(self, piece)())) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/encoding.py", line 71, in force_unicode s = unicode(s) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/functional.py", line 201, in __unicode_cast return self.__func(*self.__args, **self.__kw) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/translation/__init__.py", line 62, in ugettext return real_ugettext(message) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/translation/trans_real.py", line 286, in ugettext return do_translate(message, 'ugettext') File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/translation/trans_real.py", line 276, in do_translate _default = translation(settings.LANGUAGE_CODE) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/translation/trans_real.py", line 194, in translation default_translation = _fetch(settings.LANGUAGE_CODE) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/translation/trans_real.py", line 180, in _fetch app = import_module(appname) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/django/utils/importlib.py", line 35, in import_module __import__(name) ImportError: No module named basic My settings.py is as follows: INSTALLED_APPS = ( 'django.contrib.auth', 'django.contrib.contenttypes', 'django.contrib.sessions', 'django.contrib.sites', 'apstat.basic', 'django.contrib.admin', ) If I remove the apstat.basic, it goes through, but that is not a solution. • Django automatically compress Model Field on save() and decompress when field is accessed

    - by Brian M. Hunt
Given a Django model likeso: from django.db import models class MyModel(models.Model): textfield = models.TextField() How can one automatically compress textfield (e.g. with zlib) on save() and decompress it when the property textfield is accessed (i.e. not on load), with a workflow like this: m = MyModel() textfield = "Hello, world, how are you?" m.save() # compress textfield on save m.textfield # no decompression id = m.id() m = MyModel.get(pk=id) # textfield still compressed m.textfield # textfield decompressed I'd be inclined to think that you would overload MyModel.save, but I don't know the pattern for in-place modification of the element when saving. I also don't know the best way in Django to decompress when the field when it's accessed (overload __getattr__?). Or would a better way to do this be to have a custom field type? I'm certain I've seen an example of almost exactly this, but alas I've not been able to find it recently. Thank you for reading – and for any input you may be able to provide.

  • Python XLWT attempt to overwrite cell workaround

Hi, Using the python module xlwt, writing to the same cell twice throws an error: Message File Name Line Position Traceback <module> S:\******** write C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\xlwt\Worksheet.py 1003 write C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\xlwt\Row.py 231 insert_cell C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\xlwt\Row.py 150 Exception: Attempt to overwrite cell: sheetname=u'Sheet 1' rowx=1 colx=12 with the code snippet def insert_cell(self, col_index, cell_obj): if col_index in self.__cells: if not self.__parent._cell_overwrite_ok: msg = "Attempt to overwrite cell: sheetname=%r rowx=%d colx=%d" \ % (self.__parent.name, self.__idx, col_index) raise Exception(msg) #row 150 prev_cell_obj = self.__cells[col_index] sst_idx = getattr(prev_cell_obj, 'sst_idx', None) if sst_idx is not None: self.__parent_wb.del_str(sst_idx) self.__cells[col_index] = cell_obj Looks like the code 'raise'es an exception which halts the entire process. Is removing the 'raise' term enough to allow for overwriting cells? I appreciate xlwt's warning, but i thought the pythonic way is to assume "we know what we're doing". I don't want to break anything else in touching the module.

  • Troubleshooting latency spikes on ESXi NFS datastores

    - by exo_cw
I'm experiencing fsync latencies of around five seconds on NFS datastores in ESXi, triggered by certain VMs. I suspect this might be caused by VMs using NCQ/TCQ, as this does not happen with virtual IDE drives. This can be reproduced using fsync-tester (by Ted Ts'o) and ioping. For example using a Grml live system with a 8GB disk: Linux 2.6.33-grml64: root@dynip211 /mnt/sda # ./fsync-tester fsync time: 5.0391 fsync time: 5.0438 fsync time: 5.0300 fsync time: 0.0231 fsync time: 0.0243 fsync time: 5.0382 fsync time: 5.0400 [... goes on like this ...] That is 5 seconds, not milliseconds. This is even creating IO-latencies on a different VM running on the same host and datastore: root@grml /mnt/sda/ioping-0.5 # ./ioping -i 0.3 -p 20 . 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=1 time=7.2 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=2 time=0.9 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=3 time=0.9 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=4 time=0.9 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=5 time=4809.0 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=6 time=1.0 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=7 time=1.2 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=8 time=1.1 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=9 time=1.3 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=10 time=1.2 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=11 time=1.0 ms 4096 bytes from . (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=12 time=4950.0 ms When I move the first VM to local storage it looks perfectly normal: root@dynip211 /mnt/sda # ./fsync-tester fsync time: 0.0191 fsync time: 0.0201 fsync time: 0.0203 fsync time: 0.0206 fsync time: 0.0192 fsync time: 0.0231 fsync time: 0.0201 [... tried that for one hour: no spike ...] Things I've tried that made no difference: Tested several ESXi Builds: 381591, 348481, 260247 Tested on different hardware, different Intel and AMD boxes Tested with different NFS servers, all show the same behavior: OpenIndiana b147 (ZFS sync always or disabled: no difference) OpenIndiana b148 (ZFS sync always or disabled: no difference) Linux 2.6.32 (sync or async: no difference) It makes no difference if the NFS server is on the same machine (as a virtual storage appliance) or on a different host Guest OS tested, showing problems: Windows 7 64 Bit (using CrystalDiskMark, latency spikes happen mostly during preparing phase) Linux 2.6.32 (fsync-tester + ioping) Linux 2.6.38 (fsync-tester + ioping) I could not reproduce this problem on Linux 2.6.18 VMs. Another workaround is to use virtual IDE disks (vs SCSI/SAS), but that is limiting performance and the number of drives per VM. Update 2011-06-30: The latency spikes seem to happen more often if the application writes in multiple small blocks before fsync. For example fsync-tester does this (strace output): pwrite(3, "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"..., 1048576, 0) = 1048576 fsync(3) = 0 ioping does this while preparing the file: [lots of pwrites] pwrite(3, "********************************"..., 4096, 1036288) = 4096 pwrite(3, "********************************"..., 4096, 1040384) = 4096 pwrite(3, "********************************"..., 4096, 1044480) = 4096 fsync(3) = 0 The setup phase of ioping almost always hangs, while fsync-tester sometimes works fine. Is someone capable of updating fsync-tester to write multiple small blocks? My C skills suck ;) Update 2011-07-02: This problem does not occur with iSCSI. I tried this with the OpenIndiana COMSTAR iSCSI server. But iSCSI does not give you easy access to the VMDK files so you can move them between hosts with snapshots and rsync. Update 2011-07-06: This is part of a wireshark capture, captured by a third VM on the same vSwitch. This all happens on the same host, no physical network involved. I've started ioping around time 20. There were no packets sent until the five second delay was over: No. Time Source Destination Protocol Info 1082 16.164096 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 NFS V3 WRITE Call (Reply In 1085), FH:0x3eb56466 Offset:0 Len:84 FILE_SYNC 1083 16.164112 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 NFS V3 WRITE Call (Reply In 1086), FH:0x3eb56f66 Offset:0 Len:84 FILE_SYNC 1084 16.166060 192.168.250.20 192.168.250.10 TCP nfs > iclcnet-locate [ACK] Seq=445 Ack=1057 Win=32806 Len=0 TSV=432016 TSER=769110 1085 16.167678 192.168.250.20 192.168.250.10 NFS V3 WRITE Reply (Call In 1082) Len:84 FILE_SYNC 1086 16.168280 192.168.250.20 192.168.250.10 NFS V3 WRITE Reply (Call In 1083) Len:84 FILE_SYNC 1087 16.168417 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 TCP iclcnet-locate > nfs [ACK] Seq=1057 Ack=773 Win=4163 Len=0 TSV=769110 TSER=432016 1088 23.163028 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 NFS V3 GETATTR Call (Reply In 1089), FH:0x0bb04963 1089 23.164541 192.168.250.20 192.168.250.10 NFS V3 GETATTR Reply (Call In 1088) Directory mode:0777 uid:0 gid:0 1090 23.274252 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 TCP iclcnet-locate > nfs [ACK] Seq=1185 Ack=889 Win=4163 Len=0 TSV=769821 TSER=432716 1091 24.924188 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 1092 24.924210 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 1093 24.924216 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 1094 24.924225 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 1095 24.924555 192.168.250.20 192.168.250.10 TCP nfs > iclcnet_svinfo [ACK] Seq=6893 Ack=1118613 Win=32625 Len=0 TSV=432892 TSER=769986 1096 24.924626 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 1097 24.924635 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 1098 24.924643 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 1099 24.924649 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 1100 24.924653 192.168.250.10 192.168.250.20 RPC Continuation 2nd Update 2011-07-06: There seems to be some influence from TCP window sizes. I was not able to reproduce this problem using FreeNAS (based on FreeBSD) as a NFS server. The wireshark captures showed TCP window updates to 29127 bytes in regular intervals. I did not see them with OpenIndiana, which uses larger window sizes by default. I can no longer reproduce this problem if I set the following options in OpenIndiana and restart the NFS server: ndd -set /dev/tcp tcp_recv_hiwat 8192 # default is 128000 ndd -set /dev/tcp tcp_max_buf 1048575 # default is 1048576 But this kills performance: Writing from /dev/zero to a file with dd_rescue goes from 170MB/s to 80MB/s. Things I've tested during this capture: Started "ioping -w 5 -i 0.2 ." at time 30, 5 second hang in setup, completed at time 40. Started "ioping -w 5 -i 0.2 ." at time 60, 5 second hang in setup, completed at time 70. Started "fsync-tester" at time 90, with the following output, stopped at time 120: fsync time: 0.0248 fsync time: 5.0197 fsync time: 5.0287 fsync time: 5.0242 fsync time: 5.0225 fsync time: 0.0209 2nd Update 2011-07-07: Tested another NFS server VM, this time NexentaStor 3.0.5 community edition: Shows the same problems. Update 2011-07-31: I can also reproduce this problem on the new ESXi build 4.1.0.433742.

  • stopping a cherrypy server over http

I have a cherrypy app that I'm controlling over http with a wxpython ui. I want to kill the server when the ui closes, but I don't know how to do that. • JavaScript-like Object in Python standard library?

    - by David Wolever
Quite often, I find myself wanting a simple, "dump" object in Python which behaves like a JavaScript object (ie, its members can be accessed either with .member or with ['member']). Usually I'll just stick this at the top of the .py: class DumbObject(dict): def __getattr__(self, attr): return self[attr] def __stattr__(self, attr, value): self[attr] = value But that's kind of lame, and there is at least one bug with that implementation (although I can't remember what it is). So, is there something similar in the standard library? And, for the record, simply instanciating object doesn't work: obj = object() obj.airspeed = 42 Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in AttributeError: 'object' object has no attribute 'airspeed' Thanks, David

I just wanted to start testing a Django view using the code below: from django.test.client import Client c = Client() response = c.get('/search/keyword') print response.content It just throws out following error message: "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/test/client.py", line 286, in get response = self.request(**r) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/test/client.py", line 230, in request response = self.handler(environ) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/test/client.py", line 74, in __call__ response = self.get_response(request) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 143, in get_response return self.handle_uncaught_exception(request, resolver, exc_info) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 178, in handle_uncaught_exception callback, param_dict = resolver.resolve500() File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/urlresolvers.py", line 268, in resolve500 return self._resolve_special('500') File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/urlresolvers.py", line 258, in _resolve_special callback = getattr(self.urlconf_module, 'handler%s' % view_type) AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'handler500' The view works in browser. What's wrong with above code?

  • Good way to edit the previous defined class in ipython

    - by leo
Hi, I am wondering a good way to follow if i would like to redefine the members of a previous defined class in ipython. say : I have defined a class intro like below, and later i want to redefine part of the function definition _print_api. Any way to do that without retyping it . class intro(object): def _print_api(self,obj): def _print(key): if key.startswith('_'): return '' value = getattr(obj, key) if not hasattr(value,im_func): doc = type(valuee).__name__ else: if value.__doc__ is None: doc = 'no docstring' else: doc = value.__doc__ return ' %s :%s' %(key, doc) res = [_print(element) for element in dir(obj)] return '\n'.join([element for element in res if element != '']) def __get__(self,instance,klass): if instance is not None: return self._print(instance) else: return self._print_api(klass)

  • Socket error in python

  • [Django] How to find out whether a model's column is a foreign key?

    - by codethief
I'm dynamically storing information in the database depending on the request: // table, id and column are provided by the request table_obj = getattr(models, table) record = table_obj.objects.get(pk=id) setattr(record, column, request.POST['value']) The problem is that request.POST['value'] sometimes contains a foreign record's primary key (i.e. an integer) whereas Django expects the column's value to be an object of type ForeignModel: Cannot assign "u'122'": "ModelA.b" must be a "ModelB" instance. Now, is there an elegant way to dynamically check whether b is a column containing foreign keys and what model these keys are linked to? (So that I can load the foreign record by it's primary key and assign it to ModelA?) Or doesn't Django provide information like this to the programmer so I really have to get my hands dirty and use isinstance() on the foreign-key column?

  • I get a 400 Bad Request error while using django-piston

    - by Cheezo
Hello, I am trying to use Piston to provide REST support to Django. I have implemented my handlers as per the documentation provided . The problem is that i can "read" and "delete" my resource but i cannot "create" or "update". Each time i hit the relevant api i get a 400 Bad request Error. I have extended the Resource class for csrf by using this commonly available code snippet: class CsrfExemptResource(Resource): """A Custom Resource that is csrf exempt""" def init(self, handler, authentication=None): super(CsrfExemptResource, self).init(handler, authentication) self.csrf_exempt = getattr(self.handler, 'csrf_exempt', True) My class (code snippet) looks like this: user_resource = CsrfExemptResource(User) class User(BaseHandler): allowed_methods = ('GET', 'POST', 'PUT', 'DELETE') @require_extended def create(self, request): email = request.GET['email'] password = request.GET['password'] phoneNumber = request.GET['phoneNumber'] firstName = request.GET['firstName'] lastName = request.GET['lastName'] self.createNewUser(self, email, password, phoneNumber, firstName, lastName) return rc.CREATED Please let me know how can i get the create method to work using the POST operation?

  • In MAYA 2009, is it possible to capture the cube rotate event?

    - by Rahul2047
I need to call a function ( Maya-Python ) based on cube rotationX. For that I have to capture the event, programmatically. I tried using while loop but It stucks in the loop, Nothing can be done in that time. I tried theading (python), still same. Can it be done this or other way? If yes, How? Maya 2009 in Windows XP Some failed code references: import maya.cmds as cmds while (count < 90): lock = cmds.getAttr('pCube1.rotateX',lock=False) print lock count = count + 1 Here Python wise: #!/usr/bin/python import thread import time # Define a function for the thread def cubeRotateX( threadName, delay): count = 0 while count < 5: time.sleep(delay) count += 1 try: thread.start_new_thread( cubeRotateX, ("Thread-1", 2, ) ) except: print "Error: unable to start thread" while 1: pass

  • Dynamic Operator Overloading on dict classes in Python

    - by Ishpeck
I have a class that dynamically overloads basic arithmetic operators like so... import operator class IshyNum: def __init__(self, n): self.num=n self.buildArith() def arithmetic(self, other, o): return o(self.num, other) def buildArith(self): map(lambda o: setattr(self, "__%s__"%o,lambda f: self.arithmetic(f, getattr(operator, o))), ["add", "sub", "mul", "div"]) if __name__=="__main__": number=IshyNum(5) print number+5 print number/2 print number*3 print number-3 But if I change the class to inherit from the dictionary (class IshyNum(dict):) it doesn't work. I need to explicitly def __add__(self, other) or whatever in order for this to work. Why?

  • Python metaprogramming help

    - by Timmy
im looking into mongoengine, and i wanted to make a class an "EmbeddedDocument" dynamically, so i do this def custom(cls): cls = type( cls.__name__, (EmbeddedDocument,), cls.__dict__.copy() ) cls.a = FloatField(required=True) cls.b = FloatField(required=True) return cls A = custom( A ) and tried it on some classes, but its not doing some of the base class's init or sumthing in BaseDocument def __init__(self, **values): self._data = {} # Assign initial values to instance for attr_name, attr_value in self._fields.items(): if attr_name in values: setattr(self, attr_name, values.pop(attr_name)) else: # Use default value if present value = getattr(self, attr_name, None) setattr(self, attr_name, value) but this never gets used, thus never setting ._data, and giving me errors. how do i do this?

  • How do I dynamically import a module in App Engine?

    - by Scott Ferguson
I'm trying to dynamically load a class from a specific module (called 'commands') and the code runs totally cool on my local setup running from a local Django server. This bombs out though when I deploy to Google App Engine. I've tried adding the commands module's parent module to the import as well with no avail (on either setup in that case). Here's the code: mod = __import__('commands.%s' % command, globals(), locals(), [command]) return getattr(mod, command) App Engine just throws an ImportError whenever it hits this. And the clarify, it doesn't bomb out on the commands module. If I have a command like 'commands.cat' it can't find 'cat'.

  • Sharing base object with inheritance

    - by max
I have class Base. I'd like to extend its functionality in a class Derived. I was planning to write: class Derived(Base): def __init__(self, base_arg1, base_arg2, derived_arg1, derived_arg2): super().__init__(base_arg1, base_arg2) # ... def derived_method1(self): # ... Sometimes I already have a Base instance, and I want to create a Derived instance based on it, i.e., a Derived instance that shares the Base object (doesn't re-create it from scratch). I thought I could write a static method to do that: b = Base(arg1, arg2) # very large object, expensive to create or copy d = Derived.from_base(b, derived_arg1, derived_arg2) # reuses existing b object but it seems impossible. Either I'm missing a way to make this work, or (more likely) I'm missing a very big reason why it can't be allowed to work. Can someone explain which one it is? [Of course, if I used composition rather than inheritance, this would all be easy to do. But I was hoping to avoid the delegation of all the Base methods to Derived through __getattr__.]
