• Baidu spider is hammering my server and bloating my error_log file

  I am getting the following errors in my /etc/httpd/logs/error_log file [Sun Oct 20 00:04:15 2013] [error] [client 180.76.5.16] File does not exist: /usr/local/apache/htdocs/homes [Sun Oct 20 00:08:31 2013] [error] [client 180.76.5.113] File does not exist: /usr/local/apache/htdocs/homes [Sun Oct 20 00:12:47 2013] [error] [client 180.76.5.88] File does not exist: /usr/local/apache/htdocs/homes [Sun Oct 20 00:17:07 2013] [error] [client 180.76.5.138] File does not exist: /usr/local/apache/htdocs/homes These kinds of errors are so often, that my error log files are over 500MB! I have done an IP trace on the client address to find that it belongs to something called baidu. Beijing Baidu Netcom Science and Technology Co in China. Is there a way that I can just get apache to deny any incoming requests from some crummy spider that is repeatedly hitting my site??? Is there a better way of dealing with the problem? I am happy to completely block out China if it means that I can actually track real errors.

Now, I could easily rename the folder and get it sorted, but I would like to understand what's going on here. What would be the correct way to configure Apache in a way that it wont behave this way, and instead would listen to the Rewrite Rule?   I have a local test server, and I am attempting to write a file with PHP. I am getting a message that the folder (../uploads/) does not exist or I do not have permission. My directory structure is D:\xampp\htdocs\website\ //<--root D:\xampp\htdocs\website\library //<--where script runs D:\xampp\htdocs\website\uploads //<--where I'd like to save I know on a *nix server, I can just chmod the permission to 0777. What do I need to set on my windows box to give apache the ability to write a file?

• Binding a date string parameter in an MS Access PDO query

  I've made a PDO database class which I use to run queries on an MS Access database. When querying using a date condition, as is common in SQL, dates are passed as a string. Access usually expects the date to be surrounded in hashes however. E.g. SELECT transactions.amount FROM transactions WHERE transactions.date = #2013-05-25#; If I where to run this query using PDO I might do the following. //instatiate pdo connection etc... resulting in a $db object $stmt = $db->prepare('SELECT transactions.amount FROM transactions WHERE transactions.date = #:mydate#;'); //prepare the query $stmt->bindValue('mydate', '2013-05-25', PDO::PARAM_STR); //bind the date as a string $stmt->execute(); //run it $result = $stmt->fetch(); //get the results As far as my understanding goes the statement that results from the above would look like this as binding a string results in it being surrounded by quotes: SELECT transactions.amount FROM transactions WHERE transactions.date = #'2013-05-25'#; This causes an error and prevents the statement from running. What's the best way to bind a date string in PDO without causing this error? I'm currently resorting to sprintf-ing the string which I'm sure is bad practise.   I would like to access my site both with and without using the www. Currently it only works with. Leaving out the www just goes to a blank page. Also, wp-admin just loads a blank page too. I have set an A record for mysite.com and www.mysite.com, both pointing to my static Bitnami IP. • Why doesn't Apache start from xampp control panel after changes to vhosts config?

  I'm running xampp on my local server, and want to host multiple sites, so I changed the httpd-vhosts.conf file. Will somebody let me know if there is something wrong with my code? • How to force a new Notification in notify-osd to show up without waiting for the earlier one to exit?

  I have made a script(and a .desktop shortcut leading to this script) for starting and stoping xampp... It checks the status of xampp and accordingly either starts or stops xampp. Now i have assigned a notification as soon as the script is started to display "Starting xampp..." or "Stopping xampp..." and then when xampp is started or stopped,it displays "Xampp started..." or "Xampp stopped..." I've used notify-send to show notification as seen in the script below Now the thing is that here,the second notification waits for the 1st one to disappear and then pops up even if xampp has started/stopped. I want the new notification to appear immediately by forcing the earlier one to exit before the completion of its life-cycle. This can be seen to take plce when you activate/deactivate wireless/networking immediately... For example the "Wireless enabled" comes up on selecting enable wireless and if you immediately select disable wireless,the "Wireless disabled" notification comes up without waiting for "Wireless enabled" notification to complete its life-cycle. • Apache error with suEXEC only

  When I enable suEXEC by following the tutorial here, I am able to get PHP to run over Apache in cgi mode, but when I start trying to use suEXEC I get a 403, and the following error appears in the error log "client denied by server configuration". The suEXEC log is empty. How can I get this working? My ultimate goal is to run fastcgi with suexec, and this error has stopped me at every turn. • Nagios Apache Config with PHP-FPM downloading cgi files

  I'm trying to setup Nagios 3 under Apache 2.4 with PHP-FPM. I've run into a couple problems I could use help with. The PHP side of things seems to be working, I can see the home page and the sidebar. But all of the CGI files are downloading instead of executing, and when I try to click on "Read What's New In Nagios Core 3", I get an error /nagios3/docs/whatsnew.html was not found on this server. • Connecting to MySQL Server from PHP Command Line (MAMP)

  First of all, I'm using Mac OSX 1.6, MAMP 1.9, PHP 5.3.4, and MySQL 5.1.44. I'm in the process of setting up a video encoding service for a site using Chris Boulton's PHP-Resque and Redis. Once the worker process is fired and the videos have been encoded, I need to save their locations to a mysql database. The php script is being run from the shell, so that is where the issue begins. I've been reading about Mac OSX and MAMP errors regarding the mysql.sock and I've gone through multiple forums and tried various fixes, but none have worked. I've tried PATH=/Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/:/Applications/MAMP/bin/php5.3/bin/:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:$PATH and sudo ln -s /Applications/MAMP/tmp/mysql/mysql.sock /tmp/mysql.sock but neither have worked. I even ran a search on my machine for "3306" to find where it's being set, but because that's the normal default, I'm guessing it's not being set explicitly. Any clues on how to fix this rather challenging error?

  I have a simple test setup using xampp at home, and I am getting really weird behavior when I attempt to set up multiple virtual hosts on this box. When I attempt to run the second site, I get a weird hybrid mishmash of both sites. It's the weirdest thing.

• Why is crontab giving "No such file or directory" error when the file DOES exist?

  I am getting the following three lines in an error message in /var/mail/username after the following job runs in crontab... 15 * * * * /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/iconimageryidx/includes/insertPropertyRESI.php Errors: /applications/mamp/htdocs/iconimageryidx/includes/insertpropertyRESI.php: line 1: ?php: No such file or directory /applications/mamp/htdocs/iconimageryidx/includes/insertpropertyRESI.php: line 3: syntax error near unexpected token `'initialize.php'' /applications/mamp/htdocs/iconimageryidx/includes/insertpropertyRESI.php: line 3: `require_once('initialize.php'); The PHP script I am trying to execute DOES in fact exist, and I have made absolutely sure the spelling is correct several times. I ran a crontab on another script before and it worked just fine...any ideas?? The 2nd & 3rd Errors are from line 3 in the following script (the one I am trying to run with the crontab): <?php require_once('initialize.php'); require_once('insertPropertyTypes.php'); $sDate; if(isset($_GET['startDate'])) { $sDate = $_GET['startDate']; } else { $sDate = ''; } $insertResi = new InsertPropertyTypes('Listing', $sDate, 'RESI'); ?> When I run my script insertPropertyRESI.php in the browser, it runs just fine???? • XAMPP: Access Forbidden!

  I just installed a fresh XAMPP on OSX. Apache runs and I can see the splash page. I open the httpd.conf and I set both places that point to htdocs to someplace else, which results in Apache showing an "Access Forbidden!" message. I plugged my directory here: <Directory "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs"> and here: DocumentRoot "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs" I have set the permissions to 777 for everything including the enclosing directory, but to no avail. Strangely, I just did this whole thing with MAMP and had no problems serving that directory, but it was slow.

• Two Apache Server Root

  I am using Apache Friends (XAMPP). I installed it under C: drive. Its path is C:\xampp\ Its default root is C:\xampp\htdocs.Thus, all programs need to reside in C:\xampp\htdocs\ so that we can run http://localhost/myapp/ PhpMyAdmin comes along with XAMPP, but it resides in C:\xampp\ and it can be run from /localhost/phpMyAdmin/. When my application is moved to C:\xampp\, I cannot run it /localhost/myapp. I would like to have two server root C:\xampp\ and C:\xampp\htdocs\ so that I can separate my private apps and public apps in different folders. And both can be run from http://localhost/ such as /localhost/myprivateapp/ and /localhost/mypublicapp/ How can I do that ? I'm on Windows XP.

  I have configured a virtual host in my local machine and every thing is working fine. Now I want to use SEO friendly urls. To achieve this I have used the .htaccess file. After that I modified my virtual host setting and it is working.
