  • If I am in the USA, should I not have a hosting provider in another country? [on hold]

    I saw the various questions on SO about this. I'm not sure they answered me. I'm in the USA. Someone asked me about hosting on a company in South Africa. They are not a big company. This person simply liked the company for whatever reason. I only saw one horror story. Not many reviews really. It is a small outfit from what I can tell. But, the fact of it being in South Africa, does that matter? Do people ever pursue legal action against hosting companies anyway? The users will all be in the States. edit: I'm not sure why this is unclear.

  • Why do Git users say that Subversion does not have all the source code locally?

    I'm only going on what I've read on SO, so forgive me, but all I read says that one major advantage of Git over Subversion is that Git gives all the source code to the developer locally, not having to do anything on the server. With my limited using of SVN and TortoiseSVN, I had all the source code, or at least I thought I did. For example, I have a website. I upload it to SVN. I am still running my website locally, aren't I? If someone submits a change and I'm not connected, it wouldn't matter if I had Git or not, until I reconnect to the server. I do not understand. I'm not asking for a rehash of one vs. the other except this one point.

    I'm experimenting with LINQPad to use LINQ to query the Netflix OData. I'm trying to search for all films with a particular actor in. For example: from t in Titles from p in t.Cast where p.Name == "Morgan Freeman" select t.Name this results in: NotSupportedException: Can only project the last entity type in the query being translated I also tried: from p in People from t in p.TitlesActedIn where p.Name == "Morgan Freeman" select t.Name which results in the following error: NotSupportedException: The method 'Select' is not supported I've tried a few other approaches, such as using Id's in the where clause, and selecting different things, but have got nowhere.

    I have created a platform that i want users to sign up and a new site is created for them instantly. Users will register and afterwards they will receive a username and password for their personal site. The system will work like ecommerce platforms such as www.shopify.com, www.bigcommerce.com, etc.. where users sign up and a new web-shop is created for them instantly. I have been searching for a while how i can create a script to automate this task but couldn't find any tutorials. Am using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql and PHP). Am asking if someone can guide me how to write such script or maybe point me to a tutorial or a book or probably similar scripts to automate this task.   • Ping Flooding in router log

    I've had recently a period of repeated disconnections from my router with connection problems. I checked my router log I found several Ping Flooding entries all originating from the IP 69.171.227.232 which turned out to be one of Facebook IPs! I'm wondering what does that means? Can Facebook chat cause such a condition? My router is DLink dir 600 and the condition that devices were disconnected from router, not router from internet.. Connection is WAN And how to solve this router problem?? My wifi clients were about 3-5 at that time..

    Hi Guys, I am doing a project concerning robot simulation and i need help. I have to simulate the activities of a robot in a warehouse. I am using mindstorm robots and lego's for the warehouse. The point here is i have to simulate all the activities of the robot on a Java GUI. That is whenever the robot is moving, users have to see it on the GUI a moving object which represents the robot. When the roads/rails/crossings of the warehouse changes it must also be changed on the screen. The whole project is i have to simulate whatever the robot is doing in the warehouse in real-time. Everything must happen in real-time I am asking which libraries in Java i can use to do this simulations in real-time and if someone can also point me to any site for good information. Am asking for libraries in Java that i can use to visualize the simulation in real-time. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your help.

  • displaying keyboard raises memory... but it never comes down iPhone

    Hello again. I encountered a weird behavior in memory just by displaying the default keyboard. I've just created a project with an .xib file for testing purposes. This .xib file has an UITextField element in it and it's connected in the .h via: @property(nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextField *sometext; The .m has no changes but: - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [someText becomeFirstResponder]; } As you see it's very very simple. The problem is that once the keyboard is shown, the memory allocated for it NEVER goes down. I've tested this scenario in another project with the only difference of having two .xib files. Standar pushViewController and popViewController calls are made. Instruments show an increase of 600kb in memory allocations [which are a lot more in the actual iPhone device]. All in all, hehehe. My question is: How do I release the memory allocated for the keyboard?.

    I'm quite new with as3 via cs4 so please bear with me. I'm trying to make a phone book type list that displays the users name, cellnumber and possible a delete button. --- Bob 09XXXXXXXXX delete --- Sussie 09XXXXXXXXX delete --- Johnny 09XXXXXXXXX delete --- I've tried making a list and added to it a XML dataprovider <profiles> <profile> <label>Bob</label> ... </profile> It'll then display a list of names Bob Sussie Johnny But what do I have to do in order to get it print like fig 1? I know that it has something to do with CellRender but I can't seem to find any decent examples in Google.

    Folks does anyone knows of a PHP function to remove unmatched HTML tags from a string. for example<div> This is a string <b> with an unmatched bold tag </div>. If there isnt one then help me buld one, maybe I can have a function that counts the number of opening tags and matching closing tags. If they are not even then remove the first opening tag or if closing tags are more, it removes the last tag?

    Hi Guy, I have a 3-multidimentional array : int[][][] env; which i would like to initialize with data in a text file. The data in the text file looks like this: { { { 0, 1,-1}, { 0, 2,-1}, {-1,-1,-2}, { 0, 0, 0} }, { { 0, 0,-1}, { 0, 0,-1}, {-1,-1,-2}, { 0, 0, 0} } } Actually the accolades can be removed and replaced with different characters if it is necessary. If there are any better way to format the values in the text file, then it is welcomed. I am looking for the best way to initialize the array in the java program with the values from the text file.     I posted a question in sun java forums sometime ago and i am finding it hard to understand the first response i received from the replier though it seems he gave me the correct approach to my problem. I don't really understand what the tiles mean in connection with the BufferedImage. I would like someone to explain to me what the tiles are and how they are created in the BufferedImage. I have managed to create a flash object which plays well without FancyBox, however I want a person to click on the gallery and then an swobject is created which will then be show on a fancybox.     So I have this assignment, and I have to find an unnamed union in struct _pthread_rwlock in pthread.h in the Haiku open source project. I began this assignment with some knowledge of c++ (past inheritance, polymorphism, and classes), but I find that what I learned do not help at all in my situation. I've opened the header file, and a source file named pthread_rwlock.cpp, and tried to look for the unnamed union, but there seems to be no unions in either file. What would be the correct way to find the problem?
