  • jQuery: Trying to write my first plugin, how can I pass a selector to my func?

    - by Jannis
    Hi, I am trying to start writing some simple jQuery plugins and for my first try if figured I would write something that does nothing else but apply .first & .last classes to passed elements. so for instance i want to ultimately be able to: $('li').firstnlast(); So that in this html structure: <ul> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> </ul> <ul> <li></li> <li></li> </ul> it would create the following: <ul> <li class="first"></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li class="last"></li> </ul> <ul> <li class="first"></li> <li class="last"></li> </ul> What i have written so far in my plugin is this: (function($) { $.fn.extend({ firstnlast: function() { $(this) .first() .addClass('first') .end() .last() .addClass('last'); } }); })(jQuery); However the above only returns this: <ul> <li class="first"></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> </ul> <ul> <li></li> <li class="last"></li> </ul> It seems that passing only the li into the function it will look at all li elements on the entire page and then apply the classes to it. What I need to figure out is how i can basically make the function 'context aware' so that passing the above li into the function would apply the classes to those lis inside of the parent ul, not to the first and last li on the entire page. Any hints, ideas and help would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading, Jannis

  • jQuery find next and prev element

    - by StoneHeart
    I try to find a next or prev element of current element. But next() and prev() function can only work in a scope, it can not reach outside. For an example this is what I want to achieve: <ul id="ul1"> <li>1</li> <li>2</li> <li>3</li> <li> <ul id="ul2"> <li>4</li> <li> <ul id="ul3"> <li>5</li> <li>6</li> </ul> </li> <li>7</li> <li>8</li> </ul> </li> <li>9</li> </ul> If current element is ul1, next element is <li>1</li>, prev element is null. If current element is <li>1</li>, next element is <li>2</li>, prev element is ul1 If current element is <li>8</li>, next element is <li>9</li>, prev element is <li>7</li>

  • Rails form submission

    - by Danny McClelland
    Hi Everyone, I have a simple form to enter details of a new case (kase), it's working well and clicking submit stores the information and takes the user to the show.html.erb page. However, I wanted to move part of the form to the sidebar - to make things a little easier to see and use for the user, however, when I moved the section to the sidebar - anything entered during either a creation or edit within those sidebar fields is ignored. Any idea how I keep the fields in the sidebar, but include them as before? <% content_for :header do -%> Cases <% end -%> <% form_for(@kase) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <!-- #START SIDEBAR --> <% content_for :sidebar do -%> <% if @kase.avatar.exists? then %> <%= image_tag @kase.avatar.url %> <% else %> <p style="font-size:smaller"> You can upload an icon for this case that will display here. • Getting Paperclip to work in Rails

    - by Danny McClelland
    Hi Everyone, I have installed the Paperclip plugin to attempt to upload an avatar for my kase model. • Append <ul> and <li> in recursive loop

    - by Batman
    I have a site collection. I was told I need a recursive loop to do this. This is what I've tried: When the site loads, call getSiteTree() which passes the top level website to my getSubSite() function. From there I check if there are any subsites. I have a boolean but I'm not really using it for anything yet, I've just seen it used before for this type of work. Anyways, from there I check if there are any sub sits, if not I log the end of the branch, if there are, I call the function again using the new url and repeat the process. Looking at my console, it seems to work as intended. function getSiteTree(){ var tree = $('#treeviewList'); var rootsite = window.location.protocol + "//" + window.location.hostname; var siteEnd = false; getSubSite(rootsite); } function getSubSite(url){ $().SPServices({ operation: "GetWebCollection", webURL: url, async: true, completefunc: function(xData, Status) { var siteUrl; var siteCount = $(xData.responseXML).find("Web").length; if(siteCount == 0){ console.log("end of branch"); siteEnd = true; }else{ $(xData.responseXML).find("Web").each(function() { siteUrl = $(this).attr("Url"); console.log(siteUrl); getSubSite(siteUrl); }); } } }); } My questions: now that I have my sites, I need to take those sites and create something like this but I'm not sure how to accomplish this. <li>Site 1 <ul> <li>sub 1.1</li> <li>sub 1.2</li> <li>sub 1.3</li> <ul> <li>1.3.1</li> </ul> <li>sub 1.4</li> <li>sub 1.5</li> </ul> </li> <li>Site 2 <ul> <li>sub 2.1</li> <li>sub 2.2</li> <li>sub 2.3</li> <ul> <li>2.3.1</li> <li>2.3.2</li> </ul> </ul> </li> </ul> I have this inital html: <div id="treeviewDiv" style="width:200px;height:150px;overflow:scroll"> <ui id="treeviewList"></ui> </div>

  • Regular expression to convert ul to textindent and back, with a different attribute value for first

    - by chapmanio
    Hi, This is a related to a previous question I have asked here, see the link below for a brief description as to why I am trying to do this. Regular expression from font to span (size and colour) and back (VB.NET) Basically I need a regex replace function (or if this can be done in pure VB then that's fine) to convert all ul tags in a string to textindent tags, with a different attribute value for the first textindent tag. For example: <ul> <li>This is some text</li> <li>This is some more text</li> <li> <ul> <li>This is some indented text</li> <li>This is some more text</li> </ul> </li> <li>More text!</li> <li> <ul> <li>This is some indented text</li> <li>This is some more text</li> </ul> </li> <li>More text!</li> </ul> Will become: <textformat indent="0"> <li>This is some text</li> <li>This is some more text</li> <li> <textformat indent="20"> <li>This is some indented text</li> <li>This is some more text</li> </textformat> </li> <li>More text!</li> <li> <textformat indent="20"> <li>This is some indented text</li> <li>This is some more text</li> </textformat> </li> <li>More text!</li> </textformat> Basically I want the first ul tag to have no indenting, but all nested ul tags to have an indent of 20. I appreciate this is a strange request but hopefully that makes sense, please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks in advance.

  • css menu <ul><li> dinamically centered or width of buttons that covers the whole page

    - by Tony Stark
    I am building a home page for my minecraft server. Probably in the following 4-6 months I will opend my second and this is why I am in trouble. My first site is 1000 pixel wide, and the second will be 1200. First big difference. My menus are dinamically generated by my php code. It checks on my databases if there is another button or it is over. These buttons can be added or removed directly online. Another big issue is the browser compatibility. In a survey I did on our previous server I had a lot of users using: chrome, internet explorer, safari and firefox. That means that I must find a solution that is compatible with most browsers. What do I have to do? I came up with this CSS, which is touch compatible, it allows menus to be swapped to the left and it is enough to set 1 parameter to fix it for every page width. Sadly it is left aligned. body, nav, ul, li, a {margin: 0; padding: 0;} body {font-family: Verdana,"Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; } a {text-decoration: none;} .container { max-width: 900px; margin: 0px auto 0px auto; } .toggleMenu { display: none; background: #666; padding: 10px 15px; color: #999999; } .nav { border: 1px solid #424242; background-color: #121212; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#686868', endColorstr='#121212'); background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, from(#686868), to(#121212)); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -o-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -ms-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; list-style: none; *zoom: 1; position: relative; } .nav:before,.nav:after { content: " "; display: table; } .nav:after { clear: both; } .nav ul { list-style: none; width: 11em; z-index: 1; background-color: #121212; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); } .nav a { padding: 10px 15px; color:#999999; text-transform: uppercase; font: bold 11px Arial, Helvetica; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: 0 1px 0 #000; *zoom: 1; } .nav a:hover{ color:#000000; background-color: #B2B2B2; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#D3D3D3', endColorstr='#B2B2B2'); background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, from(#D3D3D3), to(#B2B2B2)); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -o-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -ms-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); } /*Delimitazione di ogni tab | HOME | */ .nav li { position: relative; border-right: 1px solid #424242; -moz-box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; -webkit-box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; } .nav > li { float: left; border-top: 1px solid #424242; z-index: 200; } .nav > li > .parent { background-image: url("../downArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: center right; } .nav > li li > .parent { background-image: url("../rightArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: center right; } .nav > li > a { display: block; } .nav li ul { position: absolute; left: -9999px; z-index: 100; } /* freccetta che indica un sottomenu nell'ultimo tab */ .nav > li:last-child li > .parent{ background-image: url("../leftArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: left; } /*flip subsubmenu*/ .nav li.last.hover > ul { left:auto; right: 0; } .nav > li.hover > ul { left: 0; } .nav li li.hover > ul { left: 100%; top: 0; } /* Spostare il 2^ sottomenu a sinistra */ .nav li.last li.hover ul { left:auto; right: 100%; top:0; } .nav li li a { display: block; background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:100; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li a { background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:200; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li li a { display: block; background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:300; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li li a { background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:400; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } @media screen and (max-width: 768px) { .active { display: block; } .nav > li { float: none; } .nav > li > .parent { background-position: 95% 50%; } .nav li li .parent { background-image: url("../downArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: 95% 50%; } .nav ul { display: block; width: 100%; } .nav > li.hover > ul , .nav li li.hover ul { position: static; } } My girlfriend (who adapted this code) is really busy for school and cannot help me. Leaving the borders on the whole square (page width), is it possible to make buttons cover the page width dinamically? Or is it possible to center the buttons? Thank you very much!

  • Drupal menu with submenus only shows submenu of current page. NOT a CSS problem

    - by jordanstephens
    This is not a CSS problem. The HTML isn't there. I need the menu, with submenus to exist in HTML on EACH page. Right now, the submenu only exists in HTML for the submenu related to the page being currently viewed. Here's an example of what it SHOULD be like. <ul id="menu"> <li>Page1 <ul class="sub"> <li>sub1.1</li> <li>sub1.2</li> <li>sub1.3</li> <li>sub1.4</li> </ul> </li> <li>Page2 <ul class="sub"> <li>sub2.1</li> <li>sub2.2</li> <li>sub2.3</li> <li>sub2.4</li> </ul> </li> <li>Page3 <ul class="sub"> <li>sub3.1</li> <li>sub3.2</li> <li>sub3.3</li> <li>sub3.4</li> </ul> </li> </ul> But here is what is actually happening (say I'm currently viewing Page2): <ul id="menu"> <li>Page1</li> <li>Page2 <ul class="sub"> <li>sub2.1</li> <li>sub2.2</li> <li>sub2.3</li> <li>sub2.4</li> </ul> </li> <li>Page3</li> </ul> Additionally, and maybe this doesn't have anything to do with it, but whichever list item <li> element is relative to the page i am currently on is given these classes expanded active-trail and any other <li> is given collapsed class. The classes aren't really so much of an issue, the problem is just that the content (html) isn't there. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here. I feel like I've been digging in the Drupal Admin menus forever now. I feel like it's got to have a PHP solution in the template file or something, but I don't know Drupal super well at this point. Thank you!

  • OOW 2012: Kings of Leon & Pearl Jam - Appreciation Event

    - by Mike Dietrich
    June 15, 1992 - that was actually the day when Pearl Jam played their first concert in Serenadenhof in my hometown, Nürnberg. Oups ... that's over 20 years ago ... So I was so happy to get a ticket to this year's OOW 2012 appreciation event on Treasure Island. Every year it amazes me over and over again how the organizers manage it logistically to bring almost 40,000 people to and back from the island. Food was ... I would say fairly ok ... and beer (as always) is not - actually even though I'm not a beer drinker I wouldn't call it beer.  Kings of Leon did start. I like them a lot and owe their 2008 album Only By Night. That was a good start to warm up the crowd. And then Pearl Jam took over - and ... wooooooow ... they are such a great live band. First of all as far as I understood they were donating the money they've got for that gig to an NGO. And Eddie Vedder's voice is simply striking ... I had shivers running down my spine. They played a good excerpt of their +20 years career closing down with Alive at the very end. It seemed to everybody that the band had real fun playing there - and it was sooooo good. Thanks a lot to the person who did organize me a ticket Catching my bus back to my hotel area down at Fisherman's Wharf worked well - but I must have fallen asleep 5 minutes after we've left the parking lot. The next thing I did recognize was the bus driver pushing the breaks at Northpoint. What a wonderful night ...

  • Process Is The New App by Leon Smiers

    - by JuergenKress
    Process-on-the-Fly #2 - Process is the New App The next generation of business process management and business rules management tools is so powerful that it actually can be seen as the successor to custom-built applications. Being able to define detailed process, flows, decision trees and business helps on both the business and IT side to create powerful, differentiating solutions that would have required extensive custom coding in the past. Now much of the definition can be done ‘on the fly,’ using visual models and (semi) natural language in the nearest proximity to the business. Over the years, ERP systems have been customized to enter organization-specific functionality into the ERP application. This leads to better support for the business, but at the same time involves higher costs for maintenance, high dependency on the personnel involved in this customization, long timelines to deliver change to the system and increased risk involved in upgrading the ERP system. However, the best of both worlds can be created by bringing back the functionality to out-of-the-box usage of the ERP system and at the same time introducing change and flexibility by means of externalized 'Process Apps' in direct connection with the ERP system. The ERP system (or legacy bespoke system, for that matter) is used as originally intended and designed, resulting in more predictable behavior of the system related to usage and performance, and clearly can be maintained in a more standardized and cost-effective way. The Prrocess App externalizes the needed functionality into a highly customizable application outside the ERP for which it is supported by rules engines, task inboxes and can be delivered to different channels. The reasons for needing Process Apps may include the following: The ERP system just doesn't deliver this functionality in a specific industry; the volatility of changing certain functionality is high; or an umbrella type of functionality across (ERP) silos is needed. An example of bringing all this together is around the hiring process for a new employee at a university. Oracle PeopleSoft HCM could be used as the HR system to store all employee details. In the hiring process, an authorization scheme is involved for getting the approval to create a contract for the employee-to-be. In the university world, this authorization scheme is complex and involves faculties/colleges (with different organizational structures) and cross-faculty organizational structures. Including such an authorization scheme into PeopleSoft would require a lot of customization. By adding a handle inside PeopleSoft towards an externalized authorization Process App, the execution of the authorization of the employee is done outside the ERP: in a tool that is aimed to deliver approval schemes via a worklist-type of application. The Process App here works as an add-on to the PeopleSoft system, but can also be extended to support the full lifecycle of the end-to-end hiring process with the possibility to involve multiple applications. The actual core functionality is kept in the supporting ERP systems, while at the same time the Process App acts as an umbrella function to control the end-to-end flow and give insight into the efficiency of the end-to-end process. • CSS with Aligned LI within a UL

    - by Alex
    I am trying to have some LIs within a UL align left, right, and center within a page. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to keep something "centered" on the same line as a left and right aligned LI. <style> ul { margin:1em 0; padding:0 } ul li{ display:inline-block; white-space:nowrap; margin:5px } ul li.left{ float: left; text-align:left; } ul li.center{ float:left; text-align: center; } ul li.right{ float: right; text-align:right; } </style> <ul> <li class="left">left</li> <li class="center">center</li> <li class="right">right</li> </ul> <ul> <li class="left">left</li> <li class="right">right</li> </ul> <ul> <li class="left">left</li> </ul> Can anyone help? BTW, I've trying to avoid DIVs. Thanks!

  • jquery hasClass "active" on ul#navigation li on page load not working

    - by Ross
    $(document).ready(function(){ $("li").click(function(){ if ($(this).hasClass("active") ) $(this).fadeTo("slow", 1.0); }); }); I have a navigation bar made and am using this code to add a transparency effect on hover: $(document).ready(function(){ $(".thumbs").fadeTo("slow", 0.6); $(".thumbs").hover(function(){ $(this).fadeTo("slow", 1.0); },function(){ $(this).fadeTo("slow", 0.4); }); }); I'm also using hoverIntent. The opacity rollover works a treat, but I'd like my "active" page to have 100% opacity, but I can't seem to get it to work..what am I doing wrong? the link in questions HTML is: <ul id="navigation"> <li class="active"><a href="page.htm"></a></li> </ul> the nav works perfect minus my "active" class so I think I provided all the necessary code. thank you.

  • Populating a UL with Jquery

    - by RachelGatlin
    Hi Guys, I'm a little bit stumped with this UL I'm building. I've been able to populate the list no problem but it's all messed up when it comes to formatting. Here's my script: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/shop/assets/xml/tonneau_makes.xml", dataType: "xml", success: function(xml) { var selectInfo = $("li.selectMake"); $(xml).find('option').each(function(){ var make = $(this).attr('make'); $("li.selectMake").before("<li>"+make+"</li>"); }); } }); It's working beautifully. however when I go to look at it on my page and view the selection source it looks like this: <ul id="MakeList"> <li>CHEVROLET</li> <li>VINTAGE CHEVY</li> <li>DODGE</li> <li>VINTAGE FORD</li> <li>FORD</li> <li>HONDA</li> <li>HUMMER</li> <li>ISUZU</li> <li>LINCOLN</li> <li>MAZDA</li> <li>MITSUBISHI</li> <li>NISSAN</li> <li>SUZUKI</li> <li>TOYOTA</li> <li class="selectMake"></li> So I guess it is working, but it's not formatting the way I want it to. I want it to stop at Honda and form a new list. Right now it's extending beyond my div. My html is set up like this: <ul id="MakeList"> <li class="selectMake"></li> </ul> It's just an empty ul and li (note, all li's are supposed to have that class) So not only do I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I'm not sure how to get it to do what I want. I hope that all made sense! Thanks everybody!

  • How to get the second element using jquery

    Using this jquery code I am trying to change the display from none to block for the second ul under Sale which is under Belts (It has a belts-1 href). • highlight navigation PHP

    - by Kira
    I've launched a website a while back and successfully used Javascript + CSS to highlight the current page on the navigation. However, it is not working in Safari and it does not validate well, when using Javascript, so I decided to have PHP assign the CSS id to the HTML elements. So far, it works fine, compared to the other times where there was two of each link displayed, when it was attempted in PHP. My problem is that all links look normal and the CSS property is not applied. I have a feeling that it has to do with my PHP code, but I'm not certain. The site address is here As for the PHP code, here it is: <?php echo('<li><span class="bold">Main</span>'); echo('<ul>'); if ($page=="home") { echo('<li><a id="current" href="index.shtml">Home</a></li>'); } else { echo('<li><a href="index.shtml">Home</a></li>'); } if ($page=="faq") { echo('<li><a id="current" href="faq.shtml">FAQ</a></li>'); } else { echo('<li><a href="faq.shtml">FAQ</a></li>'); } if ($page=="about") { echo('<li><a id="current" href="about.shtml">About Bryce</a></li>'); } else { echo('<li><a href="about.shtml">About Bryce</a></li>'); } echo('<li><a href="contact.php">Contact Bryce</a></li>'); if ($page=="sign guestbook") { echo('<li><a id="current" href="sign.shtml">Sign Guestbook</a></li>'); } else { echo('<li><a href="sign.shtml">Sign Guestbook</a></li>'); } if ($page=="view guestbook") { echo('<li><a id="current" href="view.shtml">View Guestbook</a></li>'); } else { echo('<li><a href="view.shtml">View Guestbook</a></li>'); } echo('</ul>'); echo('</li>'); echo('<li><span class="bold">Info</span>'); echo('<ul>'); if ($page=="projects") { echo('<li><a id="current" href="projects.shtml">Projects</a></li>'); } else { echo('<li><a href="projects.shtml">Projects</a></li>'); } if ($page=="books") { echo('<li><a id="current" href="books.shtml">Books</a></li>'); } else { echo('<li><a href="books.shtml">Books</a></li>'); } echo('</ul>'); echo('</li>'); echo('<li><span class="bold">Misc.</span>'); echo('<ul>'); if ($page=="cover designs") { echo('<li><a id="current" href="coverdesigns.shtml">Cover Designs</a></li>'); } else { echo('<li><a href="coverdesigns.shtml">Cover Designs</a></li>'); } echo('<li><a target="_blank" href="http://www.lulu.com/brycecampbellsbooks">Lulu Store</a></li>'); echo('<li><a href="rss/">RSS</a></li>'); echo('</ul>'); echo('</li>'); ?> In order to give you guys an idea of what the highlighting effect should look like, here is the CSS that is supposed to be applied to the current page: #current { font-style: italic; text-decoration: none; color: #000000; } When looking up what I was doing wrong, it told me that I was implementing it right, but it does not seem that the PHP is getting the values.

    Hi, I have a nested ul/li list <ul> <li>first</li> <li>second <ul> <li>Third</li> </ul> </li> ... and so on I found this JQuery on the interweb to use as inspiration, but how to keep the one item i expanded open after the page has reloaded? <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('div#sideNav li li > ul').hide(); //hide all nested ul's $('div#sideNav li > ul li a[class=current]').parents('ul').show().prev('a').addClass('accordionExpanded'); //show the ul if it has a current link in it (current page/section should be shown expanded) $('div#sideNav li:has(ul)').addClass('accordion'); //so we can style plus/minus icons $('div#sideNav li:has(ul) > a').click(function() { $(this).toggleClass('accordionExpanded'); //for CSS bgimage, but only on first a (sub li>a's don't need the class) $(this).next('ul').slideToggle('fast'); $(this).parent().siblings('li').children('ul:visible').slideUp('fast') .parent('li').find('a').removeClass('accordionExpanded'); return true; }); }); </script>

  • Why is the dropdown menu aligned to the left?

    - by fmz
    I am working on a dropdown navigation for a site and am having some trouble with the dropdown portion aligning with the parent category - it shifts all the way to the left. Here is the html: <ul class="dropdown"> <li><a href="#" id="home">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="about">About Us</a> <ul class="sub-menu"> <li><a href="#">Our History</a></li> <li><a href="#">Our Process</a></li> <li><a href="#">Portfolio</a></li> <li><a href="#">Financing</a></li> <li><a href="#">Testimonials</a></li> <li><a href="#">Subcontractors</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#" id="personal">Personal Banking</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="commercial">Commercial Banking</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="service">Customer Service</a> <ul class="sub-menu"> <li><a href="#">Our History</a></li> <li><a href="#">Our Process</a></li> <li><a href="#">Portfolio</a></li> <li><a href="#">Financing</a></li> <li><a href="#">Testimonials</a></li> <li><a href="#">Subcontractors</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#" id="investors">Investor Relations</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="contact">Contact Us</a></li> </ul> Here is the CSS: ul.dropdown { position: relative; background: #4e8997; height: 40px; padding-left: 5px; } ul.dropdown li { float: left; zoom: 1; } ul.dropdown li a { display: block; margin-top: 5px; padding: .5em .6em; color: #fff; font: bold 14px "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, Geneva, sans-serif; text-transform: uppercase; border: none; } ul.dropdown a:hover { background-color: #c29c5d; color: #fff; } ul.dropdown a:active { background-color: #c29c5d; color: #fff; } /* LEVEL TWO */ ul.dropdown ul { width: 200px; visibility: hidden; position: absolute; top:100%; left: 0; } ul.dropdown ul li { font: 13px "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, Geneva, sans-serif; border-bottom: 1px solid #ccc; float: none; color: #fff; background-color: #c29c5d; height: 20px; } ul.dropdown ul li a { display: inline-block; } ul.dropdown ul li a:hover { background-color: #a2834d; color: #fff; height: 20px; } I tried changing the ul.dropdown ul to position relative, but that breaks the navigation. I would appreciate some help getting this corrected. Thanks.

  • New line (in the code) after <li> element breaking layout

    - by BT643
    Weirdly, I've never come across this issue before, but I've just started making a site and the top navigation isn't playing nicely. I want a small amount of white space between each menu item, but when I have new lines between my <li> elements and my <a> elements in my IDE (Netbeans), the white space disappears, yet it looks fine if I have <li><a></a></li> all on the same line. I was always under the impression html ignored white space in the code. I've checked for any weird characters causing problems in other text editors and can't find anything. Here's the code... Like this the menu looks correct but code looks ugly (I know it looks fine when it's this simple, but I'm going be adding more complexity in which makes it look awful all on one line): <ul id="menu"> <li><a href="#">About</a></li> <li class="active"><a href="<?php echo site_url("tracklist"); ?>">Track List</a></li> <li><a href="<?php echo site_url("stats"); ?>">Stats</a></li> <li><a href="#">Stats</a></li> </ul> Like this the menu looks wrong but code looks fine: <ul id="menu"> <li> <a href="#">About</a> </li> <li class="active"> <a href="<?php echo site_url("tracklist"); ?>">Track List</a> </li> <li> <a href="<?php echo site_url("stats"); ?>">Stats</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">Stats</a> </li> </ul> Here's the css: #menu { float: right; } #menu li { display: inline-block; padding: 5px; background-color: #932996; border-bottom: solid 1px #932996; } #menu li:hover { border-bottom: solid 3px #FF0000; } #menu li.active { background-color: #58065e; } I'm sure it's something simple I'm doing wrong... but can someone shed some light on this for me? Sorry for the lengthy post (my first on stackoverflow).

    Hello. I have something like this: function cat_filter() { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: 'json/cat_filter.aspx', data: "catId=" + "&styleId=" + "&colourId=" + "&sizeId=" + "&minPrice=" + "&maxPrice=", dataType: "json", beforeSend: function () { //load loading cursor }, success: function (data) { var CatItems = ""; for (var x = 0; x < data.PRODUCTS.length; x++) { CatItems += '<li class="jcarousel-item jcarousel-item-horizontal jcarousel-item-' + [x] + ' jcarousel-item-' + [x] + '-horizontal jcarousel-item-placeholder jcarousel-item-placeholder-horizontal"><a class="large_image" href="#"><img src="' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_img + '" alt="' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_name + '"></a><h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_name + '</h3>'; if (data.PRODUCTS[x].product_onsale == 1) { CatItems += '<img alt="sale" src="assets/images/sale.gif" class="sale"><span class="geo_17_red_linethr">&pound;' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_retailprice + '</span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_webprice + '</span>'; } else { CatItems += '<span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_webprice + '</span>'; } if (data.PRODUCTS[x].product_COLOURS) { CatItems += '<span class="colour">'; for (var y = 0; y < data.PRODUCTS[x].product_COLOURS.length; y++) { CatItems += '<span><a href="' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_COLOURS[y].colours_large + '"><img src="' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_COLOURS[y].colours_thumb + '" alt="' + data.PRODUCTS[x].product_COLOURS[y].colour_name + '" /></a></span>'; } CatItems += '</span>'; } CatItems += '</li>'; } $('.carousel_00 ul').html(CatItems); }, complete: function () { //remove loading cursor } }); } This code generates this html: <div class="carousel_00"> <ul> <li><a href="#" class="large_image"><img src="assets/images/dress1.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;89.99</span> <span class="colour"> <span><a href="assets/images/big_image_1.gif"><img src="assets/images/black.gif" alt="balck"></a></span> <span><img src="assets/images/brown.gif" alt="brown"></span> <span><img src="assets/images/purple.gif" alt="purple"></span> </span> </li> <li><a href="#"><img src="assets/images/dress2.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;89.99</span> </li> <li><img class="sale" src="assets/images/sale.gif" alt="sale" /><a href="#"><img src="assets/images/dress3.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="geo_17_red_linethr">&pound;99.99</span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;89.99</span> </li> <li><a href="#"><img src="assets/images/dress1.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;59.99</span> </li> <li><a href="#"><img src="assets/images/dress2.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;89.99</span> </li> <li><a href="#"><img src="assets/images/dress3.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;89.99</span> </li> <li><a href="#"><img src="assets/images/dress1.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;89.99</span> </li> <li><a href="#"><img src="assets/images/dress2.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;89.99</span> </li> <li><a href="#"><img src="assets/images/dress3.gif" alt="image"></a> <h3 class="geo_17_darkbrown">Rachel Dress</h3> <span class="price geo_17_darkbrown">&pound;89.99</span> </li> </ul></div> What I need is that every 3 li's will be in div /div. I know that this is not semantic and not right, but this is only for example. (Basically if I will figure put how to do this, I will replace li's on spans and that div that i need outside li's on li). Will be very glad if someone will help me. Because code that I have is already too much for me.

  • Display hidden li based on class

    - by kylex
    I have the following list structure: <ul> <li>One</li> <li>Two <ul> <li class="active">Two-1</li> <li>Two-2</li> </ul> </li> <li>Three <ul> <li>Three-1</li> </ul> </li> </ul> with the following CSS: ul li ul{ display:none; } ul li:hover ul{ display:block; } What I would like is this: When an li class is active, the entire structure down until the active class gets displayed. so in the case provided the following would show, along with the top level: One Two Two-1 Two-2 Three I'd like either a CSS or jQuery implementation (or mixture of the two) if possible.

  • jquery parent/children selector for counting <li>

    Hi. I have this piece of HTML <div id="fileTreeInviati"> <ul class="php-file-tree"> <li class="pft-directory"> <a href="#" class="" name="101">A006 - SOMETEXT (<span name="contaNew"></span>)</a> <img src="./moduli/home/images/info.png" title="Informazioni Azienda" class="imgInfo"/> <ul style="display: none;"> <li class="pft-file ext-png"> <a href="javascript:getInfoFile('4');" class="" id="4">cut.png</a> </li> <li class="pft-file ext-dll"> <a href="javascript:getInfoFile('27');" class="new" id="27">Safari.dll</a> </li> </ul> </li> <li class="pft-directory"> <a href="#" class="" name="102">A012 - SOMETEXT (<span name="contaNew"></span>)</a> <img src="./moduli/home/images/info.png" title="Informazioni Azienda" class="imgInfo"/> <ul style="display: none;"> <li class="pft-file ext-jpg"> <a href="javascript:getInfoFile('19');" class="new" id="19">04.jpg</a> </li> <li class="pft-file ext-dll"> <a href="javascript:getInfoFile('24');" class="new" id="24">Safari.dll</a> </li> </ul> </li> <li class="pft-directory"> <a href="#" class="" name="103">A014 - SOMETEXT (<span name="contaNew"></span>)</a> <img src="./moduli/home/images/info.png" title="Informazioni Azienda" class="imgInfo"/> <ul style="display: none;"> <li class="pft-file ext-txt"> <a href="javascript:getInfoFile('17');" class="new" id="17">acu.txt</a> </li> <li class="pft-file ext-dll"> <a href="javascript:getInfoFile('22');" class="new" id="22">Safari.dll</a> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> I'm working on a js snippet that cycle through all "a" of the "li" and checks if it has the class "new" if yes increment a counter by one. This counter now has to be printed on the relative "li" "span" 3 level before. So I have the number of the element with the "new" class. The js snippet is this $("#fileTreeInviati .php-file-tree .pft-directory li").each(function(){ $(this).children("a").each(function(i,e){ if ($(e).hasClass("new")){ cont++; console.log($(e).text()); $(this).parent().parent().parent().children("a").children("span").text(cont); } }) cont = 0; }); I think I'm almost there but the counter is always 1. I think there is something mess with .children, maybe it can handle only the first occurrence? Thanks for help
