• HDA NVidia (GT520) - Sound Issue

  I have an GT520 graphics card and I am trying to get the sound working with my XBMC setup and I'm having trouble. Things I have completed: aplay -l List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 then lspci 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation HDMI Audio stub (rev a1) and alsamixer which is set to unmuted Everything looks well, so ran: aplay -D hw:0,3 /home/ollie/Music/alex.mp3 Playing raw data '/home/ollie/Music/alex.mp3' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono aplay: set_params:1059: Sample format non available Available formats: - S16_LE - S32_LE with no luck.. then speaker-test Playback device is default Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels Using 16 octaves of pink noise Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory also tried running through ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/gpu-hdmi-audio-document/gpu-hdmi-audio.html#upgrading_alsa_driver and http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO:Setup_audio_over_HDMI_on_nVidia_GeForce/nForce_controller plus 20 other websites with selective "fixes" etc.. but no luck _< I am a complete beginner with Ubuntu so this is a really steep learning curve for me, not sure I'm learning much though as its all just headaches atm! • Broadcom 4313 doesn't work following 12.04 upgrade

  I have an hp G62-228Ca laptop with a BCM4313 previously running Ubuntu 11.10. I ran the 12.04 upgrade last night without much thought. Following the upgrade and mandatory reboot, the wireless card no longer shows up in the network manager, the first time I've had any kind of issues with wireless under Ubuntu. I've done much Googling on the issue but so far I haven't found a permanent solution. Mucking around with some packages though (I've installed five different ones or so), I've managed to devise a workaround that I must run every time I boot the laptop. I have to remove the Broadcom STA driver and reinstall it. Inspiration taken from here: WiFi does not work, Broadcom STA Wireless driver does not work on a BCM4313 After the second modprobe command, the wireless reappears in the network manager and ten seconds after that I'm back on the wifi. If anyone can provide some advice on how to fix this permanently I will be extremely grateful. I'd rather not roll back to 11.10 or reinstall, but I will if I need to. Just let me know if you need the output from any terminal commands. Thanks in advance!

• CPU heating up too much and locking the notebook [12.10 32bits]

  I have an AMD A6-3400m. When installing ubuntu 12.10 the CPU gets too hot. When I go to see the cpu usage not see anything unusual. I think she is working at or above the specifications of the cpu. I can not finish the installation because the notebook warms both the system disarms and the cooler is maximum. Do not know if it's just me but I never had a good experience using Linux on AMD. When I used Intel these problems did not happen. What is happening can? Ps: The laptop works perfectly in Windows 7 Home Premium 64. No crashes, no overheat, simply works.

• How do I remove Skype 4.3 from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (32-bit)

  I installed Skype on my nephew's new Ubuntu 14.04 LTS machine, and now we've decided to remove it. But I'm not able to locate it in my Installed programs section of Ubuntu Software Center. I'm able to call it up by opening the debian package, Software Center opens it up, but where I would normally see the "Remove" button, I have a "Reinstall" button. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to uninstall Skype. Any suggestions? In case you're wondering I used the version of Skype designed for 12.xx, as there was no option available for Ubuntu 14.xx.

• X11 performance problem after upgrading from Centos3 to Centos5 with an ATI Rage XL

  After upgrading a computer from Centos3 to Centos5 an application that does a lot of scrolling took a very high performance hit. top tells me that X is using a lot of CPU and that was not happening before. The machine has an ATI Rage XL with 8MB and X is using the ati driver as there is no proprietary ATI driver for this board on linux. • PHP Can't connect to MySQL on the production server

  I'm having problems with connections with MySQL through PHP script. The MySQL user is root and I added GRANTS to root@'%' so I can connect from anywhere. Lets assume my MySQL host as "bigboy.com.br" The funny part is, from my local machine, on my test server, the script can connect to the MySQL server normally. But on the dedicated server where MySQL is running, the same PHP script gives me "Access denied for 'root'@'bigboy.com.br'" error.

• 403 with Apache and Symfony on Ubuntu 10.04

  I'm trying to run symfony on my apache installation (I'm using xampp for the whole package) and it keeps giving me a 403 error every time I try to access my website. I've got vhosts set up with the following: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot "/opt/lampp/htdocs" DirectoryIndex index.php <Directory "/opt/lampp/htdocs"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName servername.localhost DocumentRoot /home/me/web/server/web DirectoryIndex index.php Alias /sf "/lib/vendor/symfony/data/bin/web/sf" <Directory "/home/me/web/server/web"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> </VirtualHost> <Directory "/lib/vendor/symfony/data/bin/web/sf"> Allow from All </Directory> I've also added "127.0.0.1 servername.localhost" in my hosts file. When I try to access "servername.localhost" it just gives me a 403 error. I've chmod'd 777 the symfony directory and my website directory in my home directory and used './symfony project:permissions' to let symfony check that permissions are set up correctly but still not result. If I move my website directory into "/opt/lampp/htdocs" then it will serve it from there but still has problems access the symfony stuff such as the debug toolbar. Any help would be appreciated.

• Slow performance over network (Ubuntu)

  i did setup this NodeJs TCP Server and tested it with a message flooder. Just to see how the performance of the server is. While the message throughput is great if i run the server and the message flooder on the same computer (ubuntu), the throughput dramaticaly decreases if i start the server on computer1(ubuntu1) and the message flooder on computer2(also ubuntu). Both PC are on the same network. In fact, they are directly connected to each other. I started searching the internet for reasons and i suppose i need to tune TCP on both Ubuntu-pcs but until now i haven't been successfull at all. Has anyone experienced such problems, or could someone help me out? • How to digitally sign a message with M2Crypto using the keys within a DER format certificate

  Hi everyone. I am working on a project to implement digital signatures of outgoing messages and decided to use M2Crypto for that. I have a certificate (in DER format) from which I extract the keys to sign the message. For some reason I keep getting an ugly segmentation fault error when I call the "sign_update" method. Given the previous examples I have read here, I am clearly missing something. Here is the example I am working on: from M2Crypto.X509 import * cert = load_cert( 'certificate.cer', format=0 ) Pub_key = cert.get_pubkey() Pub_key.reset_context(md='sha1') Pub_key.sign_init() Pub_key.sign_update( "This should be good." ) print Pub_key.sign_final() Thanks in advance for the help, Pablo

• How to use VisualStyleRenderer in Windows 7?

  In a small project of mine I've came across the need of a collapsible group box. Searching the Net, I've found one here. In one of the comments there's an improvement on the original code that uses the VisualStyleRenderer class in order to acquire the TreeView open and closed glyph. Running the code it draws properly the Plus and Minus sing as Windows XP would draw it, however in Windows Vista and Windows 7 the glyph for open and closed nodes are small triangles. What kind of interface, class or PInvoke, I need to use in order to acquire the right glyph?

• Load dll's from Environment Variable Path from a service

  We install Matlab Runtime on a machine, then we restart a .net windows service that invokes methods from the Matlab Runtime. The problem is that we receive TypeInitializationException errors until we restart windows. We think this happens because Environment Variables are not changed on services until restart and Matlab uses the %Path% variable to reference it's core DLL's. My question is, do you think I can change the %Path% variable so that Matlab will use it when referencing the core dll's for it's engine? Or is it possible to add a directory to the runtime DLL loading mechanism of .NET so that those Matlab core dll's would be referenced correctly without restarting the machine?   Hello, everybody. Does someone here knows a face detection API for Objective-C? I just want to detect one or more faces inside a photo, so it's not necessary face recognition. I want to build something similar to the iPhoto's feature that puts a square on all faces in a photo. It would be nice if the API can be used on iPhone apps too. Regards.
