• Realtek HD Audio playing weird with certain video formats

  Hi, I have a Gigabyte motherboard with an onboard Realtek HD sound card. The card is working perfectly everywhere, except for a single video format, where the voice is distorted, sounds as if it's been passed through a metal tube. Been googling for this, but couldn't find an answer anywhere. The movie plays fine on other systems (got Linux everywhere else), but on this one (winXP-x64-sp2) it just doesn't. • How to crop black bars or zoom on Youtube and other Video websites?

  Many desktop software (VLC, MPC) and have an option to 'zoom in' , 'crop black bars', or crop to a specific aspect ratio. How can we do this in Fullscreen on Youtube or other flash Video sites? I am the viewer, NOT the video's creator/publisher. iOS Can do this (double tap to zoom, which removes black bars, zoom depth not configurable). afaik, Desktop computers (and android devices), cannot do this on the fly. The only 'workaround' I've found is F11 and zooming of the entire web page - basically a fake full screen and zooming the web page beyond the screen size. Use Case: watching 4:3 flash videos from the web on a widescreen monitor. Looking for all creative solutions, including any software that accesses YouTube without using a web browser.

• Unable to see some Russian id3 tags in ncmpc

  I'm running urxvt with the current env: $ env | grep LC LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 The problem is either with ncurses or ncmpc and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what the problem might be. This could also be an issue with the ID3 tags and any advice on working with broken or misconfigured encoding settings in meta tags in mp3 files is also welcome. I have been ignoring this matter for years and it has finally gotten to me. The bizarre thing is that some filenames or tags work, while others do not. What I have tried the following: setting LC_ALL to these values (whatever is before the space) ru_RU.KOI8-R KOI8-R ru_RU.UTF-8 UTF-8 ru_RU ISO-8859-5 rebuilding the MPD database with id3v1_encoding "ISO-8859-1" or id3v1_encoding "UTF-8" I can demonstrate the problem with two screen shots, as it's the easiest way to do so: Expected output (mpc works well): Broken encoding (ncmpc):

• decrypting a dvd and testing that it is decrypted and playing it locally with its menu?

  I have a DVD , it may be decrypted. How do I get it to hard drive decrypt it and see if it is decrypted? I have got it to hard drive... I can get VOB files to play(does that mean it is not encrypted?) but I can't get it to play with the menu. I can get the DVD itself to play with a menu. I'd like to get the local copy to. Also, I can play the first VOB file in VLC and MPC but not in mplayer. But that's a secondary thing. I will use whatever player you suggest. I have tried VLC, and mplayer, and media player classic.

• Allowing access to MPD from local network

  I have successfully installed MPD (Music Player Daemon) on my desktop computer. Everything works fine when the client runs on the same machine as the server. Now I would like to access MPD from my laptop computer which is connected (wirelessly) to the local network. In order to allow access to MPD from any computer on the local network I have added this line to /etc/hosts.allow: mpd: .local and restarted MPD. Still I get the message "error: Connection refused" when I try to access MPD with MPC (Music Player Client) from my laptop. Any clues or troubleshooting hints?

  Is there a way to prevent Windows Media Player from connecting to the internet and MS using the hosts file or other methods? Edit: (Nov 20 2009 at 19:16) I have both VLC and MPC and I do use them. However I am currently using WMP to organize all my music and I hate that WMP is always making outgoing connections. I just tried TCPView and can't believe how many connections WMP makes when you first launch it. I have even disabled everything in its options that relates to connecting to internet. Could any of you recommend a good media player thats also good for organizing your music library like WMP, and doesnt connect to the internet? Preferably one that a WMP user would actually like as much as WMP. The reason I use WMP is because I like its interface, the way its setup and how it looks.

  I want to get more combos in Emacs, so I tried to bind Alt, Super, Hyper via modmap to keys. I failed at it. So I tried to use xdotool. I started emacs -Q for clean experiment. Pressed C-hC-c and executed in other terminal: xdotool key --window 119537875 "meta+x" xdotool key --window 119537875 "alt+x" Both commands resulted in M-x runs the command execute-extended-command. So, Emacs do not differ between Alt and Meta. How can I fix it?

• How do I get the Dell 3007wfphc monitor to do other resolutions?

  I've borrowed a Dell 3007 WFP-HC monitor and it will only do 1280x800 and 2560x1600 resolutions crisply due to its lack of a real scaler. Every other resolution is fuzzy. 1280x800 is pixelated and I doubt my PC can play games at a reasonable frame rate at 2560x1600. Can I get something in between that looks good? I have a GeForce GTX 560 video card and Windows 7. Is it possible to get the GPU to render at a more reasonable resolution, say 1920x1200, and stretch it to the native 2560x1600 to make the monitor happy? I've been poking at the NVIDIA Control Panel but to no effect. Thank you.

• Restoring Box Sync (box.com) using physical media after OS reinstall

  I have my Box Folder on a different drive ( D: ) than my Operating System Drive ( C: ) I follow these instructions to set the local folder on the second drive. https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/200852947-How-Can-I-Change-the-Default-Folder-Location-for-Box-Sync- I had to format and reinstall Windows 7, leaving the other drive (D: ) untouched. now i reinstalled Box Sync, and directed it to the same location where i already have all my files. However, Box Sync renamed the folder to (Box ([email protected]) ) as a bckup, and is downloading everything again. As i have like 30Gb of files, and it takes many hour to download them, i just want to use the files that i already have in my local disk. i tried copying all files again to the new local Box Folder, but files started to get duplicated. Is there any way to avoid downloading everything again each time i reinstall my OS ? Thanks

  I'm attempting to use the jQuery jFeed plugin for parsing an Atom, GeoRSS feed and I'm running into issues extracting the information I need. For example, I need to extract the summary element and I would like to render the contents in a div on my HTML page. Additionally, I'd like to extract the contents from the georss:point elements and pass them into Google Maps to render them as points on a map. The problem is that it seems jFeed is stripping out the GeoRSS-related information. For example, I can extract the title element without issues, but it seems it doesn't extract the summary or georss:point elements, at all. • HttpClient multithread performance

  I have an application which downloads more than 4500 html pages from 62 target hosts using HttpClient (4.1.3 or 4.2-beta). It runs on Windows 7 64-bit. Processor - Core i7 2600K. Network bandwidth - 54 Mb/s. At this moment it uses such parameters: DefaultHttpClient and PoolingClientConnectionManager; Also it hasIdleConnectionMonitorThread from http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client-ga/tutorial/html/connmgmt.html; Maximum total connections = 80; Default maximum connections per route = 5; For thread management it uses ForkJoinPool with the parallelism level = 5 (Do I understand correctly that it is a number of working threads?) In this case my network usage (in Windows task manager) does not rise above 2.5%. To download 4500 pages it takes 70 minutes. And in HttpClient logs I have such things: DEBUG ForkJoinPool-2-worker-1 [org.apache.http.impl.conn.PoolingClientConnectionManager]: Connection released: [id: 209][route: {}-http://stackoverflow.com][total kept alive: 6; route allocated: 1 of 5; total allocated: 10 of 80] Total allocated connections do not raise above 10-12, in spite of that I've set it up to 80 connections. If I'll try to rise parallelism level to 20 or 80, network usage remains the same but a lot connection time-outs will be generated. I've read tutorials on hc.apache.org (HttpClient Performance Optimization Guide and HttpClient Threading Guide) but they does not help. • Python: wxpython wx.media.MediaCtrl - millisecond seek capability

  I've been searching for a media player that can display sub-second resolution in videos. Some pointed me to the Frame stepping functionality in MPC, but I'd like even more than that. I know from previous experience with wxPython that the wx.media.MediaCtrl both displays and (as fast as i can click with the mouse anyway) stops the video with millisecond-precision. The code is here, and runs no-problem with python +wxpython module. Has anyone come across other video players that handle this functionality, or has seen a more robust/developed video player written with wxPython that allows for this level of precision? This is possibily a one-off task so I'd like to use existing solutions if possible. Thanks.

  Hi all I have some troubles with ssl using httpclient on android i am trying to access public trusted certificate in details i want my app to trust all certificates. First i tried using this guide http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/sslguide.html on Desktop is working fine but on android i still got javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Not trusted server certificate. After searching in google i found some other examples how to enable ssl. http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/62d856cdcfa9f16e - Working when i use URLConnection but with HttpClient still got the exception. http://www.discursive.com/books/cjcook/reference/http-webdav-sect-self-signed.html - on Desktop using jars from apache is working but in android using included in SDK classes can't make it work. So any ideas how can i access trust public certificates on android using HttpClient

I searched every config file in both tomcat and apache for the statements that purportedly turn this on as described here: http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/logging.html And I don't see where this logging as been enabled. No other .war I deployed does this. The log4j configuration block in the app isn't doing it. Any ideas? I'm using an S3 library for grails that may be the source for these. However when I run this application on my development machine (in both develop and deploy configs), I'm not seeing it.

• How can I get jcifs to play nicely with apache axis

  I need to connect Apache Axis 1.4 to a Webservice that uses NTLM authentication to restrict access to its operations. I'm expecting to use Samba Jcifs to handle the NTLM handshake. I found http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client/ntlm.html which gives me fantastic directions for how to wire up HttpClient 4.0 with jcifs. Trouble is, Axis wants to use Http Client 3.0 and the two apis look very different. There are 2 possibilities that I can see Write an object for Axis that lets it plug into HttpClient 4. Figure out how to wire HttpClient 3.0 up with Samba Jcifs. Number 1. looks non-trivial, but possible Number 2. I cannot find any encouraging messages on the web describing how to do this. My question is: has anyone successfully connected samba jcifs with HttpClient 3.0 ? Has anyone already created an Axis HttpSender object that works with HttpClient 4 ? Is there some better alternative that I have not considered?

• Connecting to Sharepoint using HttpClient

  I am trying to connect to a Sharepoint 2007 using HttpClient 4. The Authentication scheme is NTLM and i wrote an implementation based on this (http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client-ga/ntlm.html). When i try to connect supplying NTCredentials (username,password,host & domain), i get a 500 error saying "The requested function is not supported". I am trying to understand this error. Does anyone know what this error is? and Why is this occuring? Thanks

  Hello, I use Emacs and I run bash with M-x term command. There is a problem: colors in the *terminal* buffer aren't the same as in Gnome Terminal, and they are worse (do you need a screen shot?). • DXVA and ATI.... what am I missing?

  ATI Radeon HD3650 ffdshow (the one comes with CCCP 2010-10 AND the latest from Free-codecs site) Catalyst 10.12 Latest DirectX, Windows 7 HP x64 If I try to play it simply, the player (mpc-hc) won't use the acceleration. If I disable checks, I get artifacts. Back then it worked perfectly with my Intel and ATI too (Lenovo ThinkPad T500, switchable graphics). This only appeared recently. What should I do? What am I missing? If possible, I don't really want to downgrade drivers (waaa ATI drivers s.ck ... sorry but.. honestly), because the older one got a buggy DP driver so my external display gets a totally wrong resolution. • install latest gcc as a non-privileged user

  I want to compile a program on a cluster (as a non-privileged user), which requires gcc-4.6, but the cluster has only gcc-4.1.2. I don't want to tell the administrator to update gcc, because 1) he is busy and would do it only after several days. 2) He probably wouldn't update it anyway, since other users may need the older gcc version (gcc is not backward compatible) I tried to compile gcc from source, which seems more difficult that it sounds, since it requires several other packages to be installed (GMP, MPFR, MPC, ...), and when I did it, after several hours I got a message like checking for __gmpz_init in -lgmp... no configure: error: libgmp not found or uses a different ABI (including static vs shared). at which point a got stuck. My question is: what is the easiest way to install the latest version of gcc as a non-privileged user? (something like apt-get install XXXXX, with an option to not install as root for example) The setup of the cluster is the following: CentOS release 5.4 (Final) Rocks release 5.3 (Rolled Tacos) If there are no other options than compiling from source, do you have any ideas how to handle the above error?

• How to play 24 fps video smoothly on a 60Hz display?

  I use mpc-hc to play videos on Win7 x64. With the default settings (#1), video playback is great most of the time. But for panning shots, playback is not smooth. I stepped through the video frame by frame and found that the panning movement is smooth (e.g. each frame shifts horizontally by 10 pixels), so the problem is how the 23.976 fps video is interpolated to 60Hz. The judder looks like what would be caused by a "2:3 pulldown", where the frames are played unevenly like: frame 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, etc (#2) Using "optimal renderer settings" (#3) instead of the default disables the Aero theme and causes tearing. Setting my LCD display to 50Hz may have improved the judder slightly (but I can't really tell). My display does not support 24Hz or 48Hz, and forcing them in the Nvidia control panel gives blurry screen. I've tried other video players (VLC and KMPlayer), the ReClock Directshow Filter, video files from different sources (#4), turning on/off DXVA, and a computer with a different GPU, but the judder in the playback is similar. None of them solved the problem. So, how can I play 23.976 or 24 fps video smoothly on a 60Hz display? I think a video player could make the video smoother by doing linear interpolation, such as: 1. 100% frame 1 2. 60% frame 1 + 40% frame 2 3. 20% frame 1 + 80% frame 2 4. 80% frame 2 + 20% frame 3 5. 40% frame 2 + 60% frame 3 6. 100% frame 3 7. 60% frame 3 + 40% frame 4 .. etc Can any existing video player do this? • Windows media scaling/interpolation method

  Usually in Windows, if videos or other media is upscaled from a certain resolution to a higher resolution (e.g. "monitor size"), a bilinear filtering algorithm or similar is used, such that the upscaled material doesn't look blocky. On my system however, the used interpolation algorithm changed from 'bilinear' to 'nearest neighbor' at some point, with the effect that upscaled videos (e.g. viewed in MPC or WMP, and also Skype video streams) and games (e.g. from PopCap) appear rather blocky. Not sure what the common factor between those is, could be DirectShow(?). I am not aware of having changed any setting that could have affected this state, in fact I am not even aware such a setting exists. I'm guesing that some installed software must have changed something on my computer. My computer is running Windows 7, but I had already experienced the same effect on an XP machine some while ago, where it changed back again to the more pleasing bilinear interpolation after a while, as magically as the first time. What could be wrong with this installation, and how can I change this upscaling interpolation behavior?
