How to add a view on top of a UIPopoverController

I've got an iPad app with a “drawer” table displayed in a popover. The user can tap-and-hold on an item in the drawer to drag that item out of it and into my main view. That part works fine; unfortunately, the view being dragged appears under the popover, and is too small to be visible until it's dragged out from underneath it. If I add the view as a subview of the view controller in the popover, it gets clipped by the popover's frame, and as I can't access the UIPopoverController's view, I can't disable its layer's masksToBounds—and that probably wouldn't be a great idea anyway. I suspect that I could use an additional UIWindow with a high windowLevel value to force the dragged view to appear on top of the popover, but this seems like overkill. Is there a better solution?

How to Force a Method Call on a Property or Method of an Object in PHP?

In my View (using Zend_View so the the view is an object), I make calls to object properties and methods to populate the template like so: <?= $this->user->name ?> // Outputs John Doe <br/> <?= $this->user->getCompany()->name ?> // Outputs Acme <br/> <?= $this->method() ?> // Outputs foobar If I make it so that all property requests (like for 'user') go through __get() is there any way that I can catch the subsequent calls so that I can force a method call on the final outputted value? For example so that I could do automatic escaping of output. As I see it right now, I either have to escape the input as it goes into the database or use compiled templates like Smarty does, or switch to assigning every variable to the View object so that it has direct control to force escaping before outputting the data.

Adb shell commands to change settings or perform tasks on a phone

How do I use adb to perform some automated tasks on my android phone? I need to find commands that I can issue from the command line (ideally, using a .bat file) that will be capable of more than simply opening an application or sending an input keyevent (button press). For instance, I want to toggle Airplane Mode on or off from the command line. Currently, the best I can do is launch the Wireless & network settings menu and then use input keyevents to click Airplane mode: adb shell am start -a android.settings.AIRPLANE_MODE_SETTINGS adb shell input keyevent 19 & adb shell input keyevent 23 There are quite a few drawbacks to this method, primarily that the screen has to be on and unlocked. Also, the tasks I want to do are much broader than this simple example. Other things I'd like to do if possible: 1.Play an mp3 and set it on repeat. Current solution: adb shell am start -n com.android.music/.MusicBrowserActivity adb shell input keyevent 84 adb shell input keyevent 56 & adb shell input keyevent 66 & adb shell input keyevent 67 & adb shell input keyevent 19 adb shell input keyevent 23 & adb shell input keyevent 21 adb shell input keyevent 19 & adb shell input keyevent 19 & adb shell input keyevent 19 & adb shell input keyevent 22 & adb shell input keyevent 22 & adb shell input keyevent 23 & adb shell input keyevent 23 2.Play a video. The other major drawback to using keyevents is if the UI of the application is changed, the keyevents will no longer perform the correct function. If there is no easier way to do these sort of things, is there at least a way to turn the screen on (using adb) when it is off? Or to have keyevents still work when the screen is off? I'm not very familiar with java. That said, I've seen code like the following (source: http://yenliangl.blogspot.com/2009/12/toggle-airplane-mode.html) to change a setting on the phone: Settings.System.putInt(Settings.System.AIRPLANE_MODE_ON, 1 /* 1 or 0 */); How do I translate something like the above into an adb shell command? forward/strong enum in VS2010

At http://blogs.msdn.com/vcblog/archive/2010/04/06/c-0x-core-language-features-in-vc10-the-table.aspx there is a table showing C++0x features that are implemented in 2010 RC. Among them are listed forwarding enums and strongly typed enums but they are listed as "partial". The main text of the article says that this means they are either incomplete or implemented in some non-standard way. So I've got VS2010RC and am playing around with the C++0x features. I can't figure these ones out and can't find any documentation on these two features. VS2010 .filter files and SVN

Since we've switched to VS2010 we've noticed a new .filters file that apparently contains the filter structure of the project. We're also using subversion as our source control. Unfortunately, every time we check in now we end up with merge conflicts if anyone's added a file or filter to the project. SVN seems absolutely incapable of merging this file type correctly even though it's text based. It's getting rather frustrating. Is anyone else dealing with this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

Groovy MetaClass - Add category methods to appropriate metaClasses

I have several categories that I use in my Grails plugin. e.g., class Foo { static foo(ClassA a,Object someArg) { ... } static bar(ClassB b,Object... someArgs) { ... } } I'm looking for the best way to add these methods to the meta-classes so that I don't have to use the category classes and can just invoke them as instance methods. e.g., aInstance.foo(someArg) bInstance.bar(someArgs) Is there a Groovy/Grails class or method that will help me do this or am I stuck iterating through the methods and adding them all myself?

Convert File System Website to IIS Website

We recently migrated from VS 2008 to VS 2010. The migration went fine, except for our web project. Before, in VS 2008, the site showed up as http://localhost/Website. Now, it appears as C:...\Website. It appears that when we did the migration, VS started to treat it as a file system website. I've tried removing the existing site and re-adding it as an existing website, but it still displays it as C:...\Website. Is there any way to convert it back to show it as a http://localhost/website, and run through IIS, as opposed to the default ASP.NET Development Server?

VS2010 profiler/leak detection

Anyone know of a profiler and leak detector that will work with VS2010 code? Preferably one that runs on Win7. I've searched here and in google. I've found one leak detector that works (Memory Validator) but I'm not too impressed. For one thing it shows a bunch of menu leaks and stuff which I'm fairly confident are not real. I also tried GlowCode but it's JUST a profiler and refuses to install on win7. I used to use AQtime. It had everything I needed, memory/resource leak detection, profiling various things, static analysis, etc. Unfortunately it gives bogus results now. My main immediate issue is that VS2010 is saying there are leaks in a program that had none in VS2005. I'm almost certain it's false positives but I can't seem to find a good tool to verify this. Memory Validator doesn't show the same ones and the reporting of leaks from VS doesn't seem rational.

Problem with Zend_Date and ISO_8601 format

Frankly, I'm flummoxed. Can anyone tell me why I would get a failure message with this code? $date = Zend_Date::now(); $date = $date->getIso(); if(Zend_Date::isDate($date, Zend_Date::ISO_8601)) { print('success'); } else { print('failure'); } exit; It also fails if I just pass in a Zend_Date object. UPDATE: a var_dump of the initial $date object looks like this: object(Zend_Date)#107 (8) { ["_locale:private"]= string(5) "en_US" ["_fractional:private"]= int(0) ["_precision:private"]= int(3) ["_unixTimestamp:private"]= int(1257508100) ["_timezone:private"]= string(14) "America/Denver" ["_offset:private"]= int(25200) ["_syncronised:private"]= int(0) ["_dst:protected"]= bool(true) } And a var_dump of the $date string after calling $date-getIso() looks like this: string(25) "2009-11-06T04:48:20-07:00" I am using ZF 1.9.5 on PHP 5.2.8. I am using XAMPP for Windows too if that makes a difference.

Qt, MSVC, and /Zc:wchar_t- == I want to blow up the world

So Qt is compiled with /Zc:wchar_t- on windows. What this means is that instead of wchar_t being a typedef for some internal type (__wchar_t I think) it becomes a typedef for unsigned short. The really cool thing about this is that the default for MSVC is the opposite, which of course means that the libraries you're using are likely compiled with wchar_t being a different type than Qt's wchar_t. This doesn't become an issue of course until you try to use something like std::wstring in your code; especially when one or more libraries have functions that accept it as parameters. What effectively happens is that your code happily compiles but then fails to link because it's looking for definitions using std::wstring<unsigned short...> but they only contain definitions expecting std::wstring<__wchar_t...> (or whatever). So I did some web searching and ran into this link: http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-6345 Based on the statement by Thiago Macieira, "Sorry, we will not support building Qt like this," I've been worried that fixing Qt to work like everything else might cause some problem and have been trying to avoid it. We recompiled all of our support libraries with the /Zc:wchar_t- flag and have been fairly content with that until a couple days ago when we started trying to port over (we're in the process of switching from Wx to Qt) some serialization code. Because of how win32 works, and because Wx just wraps win32, we've been using std::wstring to represent string data with the intent of making our product as i18n ready as possible. We did some testing and Wx did not work with multibyte characters when trying to print special stuff (even not so special stuff like the degree symbol was an issue). I'm not so sure that Qt has this problem since QString isn't just a wrapper to the underlying _TCHAR type but is a Unicode monster of some sort. At any rate, the serialization library in boost has compiled parts. We've attempted to recompile boost with /Zc:wchar_t- but so far our attempts to tell bjam to do this have gone unheeded. We're at an impasse. From where I'm sitting I have three options: Recompile Qt and hope it works with /Zc:wchar_t. There's some evidence around the web that others have done this but I have no way of predicting what will happen. All attempts to ask Qt people on forums and such have gone unanswered. Hell, even in that very bug report someone asks why and it just sat there for a year. Keep fighting with bjam until it listens. Right now I've got someone under me doing that and I have more experience fighting with things to get what I want but I do have to admit to getting rather tired of it. I'm also concerned that I'll KEEP running into this issue just because Qt wants to be a c**t. Stop using wchar_t for anything. Unfortunately my i18n experience is pretty much 0 but it seems to me that I just need to find the right to/from function in QString (it has a BUNCH) to encode the Unicode into 8-bytes and visa-versa. UTF8 functions look promising but I really want to be sure that no data will be lost if someone from Zimbabfuckegypt starts writing in their own language and the documentation in QString frightens me a little into thinking that could happen. Of course, I could always run into some library that insists I use wchar_t and then I'm back to 1 or 2 but I rather doubt that would happen. So, what's my question... Which of these options is my best bet? Is Qt going to eventually cause me to gouge out my own eyes because I decided to compile it with /Zc:wchar_t anyway? What's the magic incantation to get boost to build with /Zc:wchar_t- and will THAT cause permanent mental damage? Can I get away with just using the standard 8-bit (well, 'common' anyway) character classes and be i18n compliant/ready? How do other Qt developers deal with this mess?

XCode Developer Documentation crashes after clicking any link on the startup screen

I just installed XCode 3.2.1. When I open the Developer Documentation and click any link on the startup screen, XCode crashes. Has anyone run into this problem? Also hints as to how to debug would be excellent -- I've only been using XCode for a week. I can still get into the documentation if I open some code and then right-click a symbol and choose "Find in Documentation." But its annoying that I can't just open the docs and browse them.

Trouble with __VA_ARGS__

C++ preprocessor __VA_ARGS__ number of arguments The accepted answer there doesn't work for me. I've tried with MSVC++ 10 and g++ 3.4.5. I also crunched the example down into something smaller and started trying to get some information printed out to me in the error: template < typename T > struct print; #include <boost/mpl/vector_c.hpp> #define RSEQ_N 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0 #define ARG_N(_1,_2,_3,_4,_5,_6,_7,_8,_9,_10,N,...) ARG_N(__VA_ARGS__) #define XXX 5,RSEQ_N #include <iostream> int main() { print< boost::mpl::vector_c<int, ARG_N_( XXX ) > > g; // ARG_N doesn't work either. } It appears to me that the argument for ARG_N ends up being 'XXX' instead of 5,RSEQ_N and much less 5,10,...,0. The error output of g++ more specifically says that only one argument is supplied. Having trouble believing that the answer would be proposed and then accepted when it totally fails to work, so what am I doing wrong? Why is XXX being interpreted as the argument and not being expanded? In my own messing around everything works fine until I try to pass off VA_ARGS to a macro containing some names followed by ... like so: #define WTF(X,Y,...) X , Y , __VA_ARGS__ #define WOT(...) WTF(__VA_ARGS__) WOT(52,2,5,2,2) I've tried both with and without () in the various macros that take no input.

Is It Incorrect to Make Domain Objects Aware of The Data Access Layer?

I am currently working on rewriting an application to use Data Mappers that completely abstract the database from the Domain layer. However, I am now wondering which is the better approach to handling relationships between Domain objects: Call the necessary find() method from the related data mapper directly within the domain object Write the relationship logic into the native data mapper (which is what the examples tend to do in PoEAA) and then call the native data mapper function within the domain object. Either it seems to me that in order to preserve the 'Fat Model, Skinny Controller' mantra, the domain objects have to be aware of the data mappers (whether it be their own or that they have access to the other mappers in the system). Additionally it seems that Option 2 unnecessarily complicates the data access layer as it creates table access logic across multiple data mappers instead of confining it to a single data mapper. So, is it incorrect to make the domain objects aware of the related data mappers and to call data mapper functions directly from the domain objects? Update: These are the only two solutions that I can envision to handle the issue of relations between domain objects. Any example showing a better method would be welcome.

Qt and variadic functions

OK, before lecturing me on the use of C-style variadic functions in C++...everything else has turned out to require nothing short of rewriting the Qt MOC. What I'd like to know is whether or not you can have a "slot" in a Qt object that takes an arbitrary amount/type of arguments. The thing is that I really want to be able to generate Qt objects that have slots of an arbitrary signature. Since the MOC is incompatible with standard preprocessing and with templates, it's not possible to do so with either direct approach. I just came up with another idea: struct funky_base : QObject { Q_OBJECT funky_base(QObject * o = 0); public slots: virtual void the_slot(...) = 0; }; If this is possible then, because you can make a template that is a subclass of a QObject derived object so long as you don't declare new Qt stuff in it, I should be able to implement a derived templated type that takes the ... stuff and turns it into the appropriate, expected types. If it is, how would I connect to it? Would this work? connect(x, SIGNAL(someSignal(int)), y, SLOT(the_slot(...))); If nobody's tried anything this insane and doesn't know off hand, yes I'll eventually try it myself...but I am hoping someone already has existing knowledge I can tap before possibly wasting my time on it.

Kohana Database Library - How to Execute a Query with the Same Parameters More Than Once?

With the following bit of code: $builder = ORM::factory('branch')->where('institution_id', $this->institution->id)->orderby('name'); I need to first execute: $count = $builder->count_all(); Then I need to execute: $rs = $builder->find_all($limit, $offset); However, it appears that when I execute the first query the stored query parameters are cleared so that a fresh query can be executed. Is there a way to avoid having the parameters cleared or at least copy them easily without having to reach directly into the Database driver object that stores the query parameters and copy them out? We are using Kohana 2.3.4 and upgrading is not an option.

How To Format A Block of Code Within a Presentation?

Detecting changes between rows with same ID

I have a table containing some names and their associated ID, along with a snapshot: snapshot, id, name I need to identify when a name has changed for an id between snapshots. For example, in the following data: 1, 0, 'MOUSE_SPEED' 1, 1, 'MOUSE_POS' 1, 2, 'KEYBOARD_STATE' 2, 0, 'MOUSE_BUTTONS' 2, 1, 'MOUSE_POS' 2, 2, 'KEYBOARD_STATE' ...the meaning of id 0 changed with snapshot 2, but the others remained the same. I'd like to construct a query that (ideally) returns: 1, 0, 'MOUSE_SPEED' 2, 0, 'MOUSE_BUTTONS' I am using PostgreSQL v8.4.2.

[iPhone]Objective C, objects which do not conform to NSCoding. How to write them to a file.

Hi, I am using an Objective c class, a subclass of NSObject. This class cannot be modified. I have an instance of this class that I wish to write to a file which can be retrieved and later reinstate. The object does not conform to NSCoding. To sum up, I need to save an instance of a class to a file which can be retrieved later, without using any of the NSCoding methods such as NSKeyedArchiving encodeWithCoder ... Using them returns this... NSInvalidArgumentException ...encodeWithCoder:] unrecognised selector sent to instance... Is there any other way I can store this object for later use Thank you

PHP MVC Learning Suggestions

Can someone recommend some good resources for learning about MVC in PHP? It doesn't have to be specific to MVC in PHP. In fact, I'm looking for recommendations of materials that focus on the higher level concepts with examples that could port well to any language so even ASP.net books will be tolerated ;-) Any recommendations for books, websites, blogs, etc would be excellent. UPDATE: I have reviewed the MVC Learning Resources post but all of the references there seemed to be ASP.net specific. I was hoping to gather suggestions that were broader than a single language.

Policy based design and defaults.

Hard to come up with a good title for this question. What I really need is to be able to provide template parameters with different number of arguments in place of a single parameter. Doesn't make a lot of sense so I'll go over the reason: template < typename T, template <typename,typename> class Policy = default_policy > struct policy_based : Policy<T, policy_based<T,Policy> > { // inherits R Policy::fun(arg0, arg1, arg2,...,argn) }; // normal use: policy_base<type_a> instance; // abnormal use: template < typename PolicyBased > // No T since T is always the same when you use this struct custom_policy {}; policy_base<type_b,custom_policy> instance; The deal is that for many abnormal uses the Policy will be based on one single type T, and can't really be parameterized on T so it makes no sense to take T as a parameter. For other uses, including the default, a Policy can make sense with any T. I have a couple ideas but none of them are really favorites. I thought that I had a better answer--using composition instead of policies--but then I realized I have this case where fun() actually needs extra information that the class itself won't have. This is like the third time I've refactored this silly construct and I've got quite a few custom versions of it around that I'm trying to consolidate. I'd like to get something nailed down this time rather than just fish around and hope it works this time. So I'm just fishing for ideas right now hoping that someone has something I'll be so impressed by that I'll switch deities. Anyone have a good idea? Edit: You might be asking yourself why I don't just retrieve T from the definition of policy based in the template for default_policy. The reason is that default_policy is actually specialized for some types T. Since asking the question I have come up with something that may be what I need, which will follow, but I could still use some other ideas. template < typename T > struct default_policy; template < typename T, template < typename > class Policy = default_policy > struct test : Policy<test<T,Policy>> {}; template < typename T > struct default_policy< test<T, default_policy> > { void f() {} }; template < > struct default_policy< test<int, default_policy> > { void f(int) {} }; Edit: Still messing with it. How to access items by "group" in an Outlook VB macro?

By "group" I mean the collapsible classifications that you get when you enable View-Arrange By-Show in Groups. This divides e.g. messages in a folder into Today, Yesterday, Last Week, Two Weeks Ago, and so on. WPF Create Rectangle Tags on Image from DataBinding

I'm trying to add image tags to a WPF image and I'm not having much luck. I'd like to do it through databinding if at all possible. Can I set a resource with a DataTemplate to take care of this?
