• Crystal Reports API - chart: "for all records" or "for each record"?

  Is there any way to determine whether a chart in Crystal Reports 2008 (using either the RAS SDK or the older RDC API) is set to display values "for each record" or "for all records"? I can get access to a CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.ChartObject but can't find any API there to access which type of chart it is - "for each" or "for all".

• Creating .lib files in CUDA Toolkit 5

  I am taking my first faltering steps with CUDA Toolkit 5.0 RC using VS2010. Separate compilation has me confused. I tried to set up a project as a Static Library (.lib), but when I try to build it, it does not create a device-link.obj and I don't understand why. For instance, there are 2 files: A caller function that uses a function f #include "thrust\host_vector.h" #include "thrust\device_vector.h" using namespace thrust::placeholders; extern __device__ double f(double x); struct f_func { __device__ double operator()(const double& x) const { return f(x); } }; void test(const int len, double * data, double * res) { thrust::device_vector<double> d_data(data, data + len); thrust::transform(d_data.begin(), d_data.end(), d_data.begin(), f_func()); thrust::copy(d_data.begin(),d_data.end(), res); } And a library file that defines f __device__ double f(double x) { return x+2.0; } If I set the option generate relocatable device code to No, the first file will not compile due to unresolved extern function f. If I set it to -rdc, it will compile, but does not produce a device-link.obj file and so the linker fails. If I put the definition of f into the first file and delete the second it builds successfully, but now it isn't separate compilation anymore. How can I build a static library like this with separate source files? [Updated here] I called the first caller file "caller.cu" and the second "libfn.cu".   We have installed windows 2008 R2 enterprise on a Dell server. This server is placed remotely in data center and only administrator is going to access it for maintenance purpose. No multiple users or client remote access is needed Now during 'remote desktop services' role installation network admin accidentally selected 'per user/device' licensing mode. Because of which now 120 days free try period is ticking. Since only administrator is going to access this server remotely we need to have 'Remote control for administrators' licensing mode (like windows 2003) on it. How we can change licensing mode from 'per user/device' to 'Remote control for administrators' on 2008 server? Also will it be possible to do this change remotely using RDC session itself? or do i need to change it using physical console (if remote access is gonna be disabled during switch)?

• How to setup a new website with Amazon EC2?

  For a new EC2 instance, I setup a windows server with IIS. I added the Amazon name servers to my on my domain, and configured an elastic IP pointing to the server. I know this is working as I use this for RDC. On the server, I added the website tied to the IP address, and used the quicklink security group that has port 80 open. However, whenever I try going to the URL, I pretty much get nothing, and not sure where the blockage is occurring. Any suggestions? Thanks.

• Remote File Copy - Win Server 2008

  I'd like to copy backup archives from a remote server to my client machine. In the past, I've installed an FTP server on the remote machine and directed local server backups to dump into that directory. I'd then FTP in from my client machine. Just wondering if there is a simpler way to do this using Win 7 (Client) Win Server 2008? Robocopy? RDC command line options? For example, I can easily remote desktop in and drag the files from the server to my local machine. If there is an easy command line way to do this, then I don't have to setup an FTP server which is ideal. Thanks.

• Unable to access published programs on TS web access - win server 2008 OS

  I am using the TS Web Access feature provided by windows server 2008 to publish programs so that they can be accessed over internet using RDC client. I am able to access the programs from the intranet domain . However, when i try from outside the college network, i am only able to see the published programs but not connect to them as i get an error saying "Remote computer cannot be connected. The certificate subject name and the gateway address requested do not match." . pls note that i have created a self -signed certificate and installed on server myself. Also, i am using the direct IPAddress of the server as the gateway address. Since i am able to access programs from with domain , i suspect it to be a simple setting with gateway or certificate. Please let me know if any further info is required on this..any help is appreciated..

• Why does restarting the modem fix latency?

  In the last few days I've noticed poor internet performance. Today I ran a speed test and the results were abysmal... 10mb down and 0.18mb up (which really hurt, because I was trying to RDC from another location). I pay for 30mb down and 5mb up. Latency was at 128ms. Before calling my ISP to give them a verbal lashing, I unplugged the modem and plugged it back in. I pretty much got top speed after doing that (with a latency of 7ms). I'm the type of guy that likes to know what goes on under the hood. So what's the deal? What mysterious powers does restarting give to my modem?

  Hi all, We are running windows server 2003 at our work place. I have enabled the remote desktop connections. I have also added all the users who connect to the server(three to four people) to the RDC group of users. Many of these users are also having Administrator access. The problem we are facing is that the connection is suddenly lost when we are working on something. Also, at times the system restarts by itself. Is this issue related to the limit on the number of users able to connect to the system? If so, why does the system accept new connections and/or terminate the existing connections? Has this anything to do with the users having administrator access so that all have equal prority and that is why existing connections are stalled? Also, please differentiate between console remote desktop and non console remote desktop.

  We have 2 XP pro VMs (Citrix) that both have problems with logout prompts appearing during logout. Users are closing the rdc before these appear: The Microsoft solution involves the creation of the KeepProgressLevel registry entry along with a value of 1 for "pause on errors." I have implemented this across the domain for this problem, yet these 2 VM's continue to have the prompts. Today, I experimented by changing the KeepProgressLevel option to 0. This is not one of the options given by MS, yet I stopped getting the prompts. Can anyone tell me what I've done by setting the value to 0? Have I basically turned off the feature as if the KeepProgressLevel entry is gone? If so, why no more prompts? I did notice during logoff that there is a red x and error message, yet no prompt.

But is it possible to use the monitor of my secondary machine as the secondary monitor of my primary? I am on XP so from what I understand I cannot just rdc from secondary to this primary.   Is it possible to use remote desktop to connect to multiple computers inside a network that has a dynamic IP address? I use a netgear WPN824 router which has dyndns onboard - but I currently use No-IP to control a single computer that I use most frequently. Every so often I need to get onto a couple of other computers in the network, but don't know how to go about this without logging onto one computer, and then starting another RDC session from that machine. What I would like to be able to do is connect to my router, and be able to see a list of connected devices, and then choose which to remote desktop onto. - I appreciate this probably is not be possible, but any other suggestions are welcome!

• Can I create a DC without a DNS Server?

  So as the title says, I need to promote a standalone Win2008R2 server to a Domain Controller, and I don't a DNS Server (I think), as there will be no clients connected to the domain, it will be only used for Remote Desktop Services. Yes, I know, it's considered bad practice to install other roles on the DC, but in this case, it's necessary. Do I need to install the DNS Server, and if I do, how to make it as transparent as possible? EDIT: Seems that I need to install the DNS Server, so I can I configure it not to mess up my entire domain? For example: The server I need to promote is rdc.mydomain.com, and it has an A entry to it's IP in the current DNS, while other servers under mydomain.com are running Linux and don't need to know anything about this Windows box. The domain uses a third-party DNS and all edits and updates need to be done via a separate web page, our servers don't have write/update access.

Symptoms: From a domain-member Windows 7 Client: Domain credentials to a domain controller = success Domain credentials to a member server (by hostname or FQDN) = success Domain credentials to a member server (by IP) = fail Local credentials to a member server (by either) = success From a non-domain-member Windows 7 Client: Domain credentials to a domain controller = success Domain credentials to a member server = fail Local credentials to a member server = success (Identical behavior from a Mac RDC 2.1 client) Server Configuration Details: Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter w/ SP1 The domain in question is a subdomain of a Windows 2008 domain (forest root). Root has DCs in both Site A and Site B, subdomain only has DCs in Site B. RDP is operating normally on all root member-servers and DCs. No remote desktop settings are defined by GPOs. Network level authentication is enabled; all clients are compatible and the certificate exchange/SSL handshake completes successfully. Not catching any errors in netlogon log.

  My reward for clicking the "test" button in the APC UPS software was that it completely cut the power to my SQL server. The server promptly rebooted, the SQL service is running (verified by the app on another server that queries it), but the GUI has remained on "applying computer settings" for 20 minutes and counting, and it forbids RDC connections. Since SQL is up, it is fulfilling its key role, but it's obviously not right. What step to take next? Wait longer? Hardware is a Dell Poweredge 2850, internal RAID10.

  I face into this problem and before ask here I've searched and read a lot of question but no-one seems to fit to my problem. I have a server running Windows Server 2008 Web with the SP2 and a headset attached to it using audio jack. The server has audio driver since I can listen audio. This OS does not came with the built-in audio record tool (the one I have in Windows 7). I can access physically and remotely (using RDC) to this server with administration permission. My local pc has Windows 7 if it can help. All I want to do is to know if it's possible and how to record audio form the microphone (of the server) and store that file in the server from remote connection. I tried to install several software on the server but everyone fails with a different issues (missing DLL which if I put in the system the error doesn't go away).

• Display Problems running Ubuntu 12.04 in Windows VMware Player

  I am posting this again because I have changed to VMWare Player and I discovered something new. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Guest) in VMWare Player 6.0.2 on Windows 7 64-bit Host. I have VMWare Tools installed properly. I am running MATE but the problem persists when I change (to and from) xfce, gnome, mate a-- and back again I had been using this for a couple of years without any graphics issues. After an Ubuntu update (typical) -- my video is corrupt and will not refresh correctly. My desktop icons are "mirrored" and when I open a terminal window (for instance) -- sometimes -- the window appears multiple times. Of course, only one is the real image. It seems to be a refresh problem. When I move an active window around the screen the "older" images "erase" and my icons (for instance) are in the correct location. For instance, I can move the terminal around a pretty corrupted window and the screen behind it is repainted correctly. NEW: Next, I got the idea to try and Remote Desktop in to the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Guest OS from my Windows 7 64-bit Host. Once working, and connected via Win RDC -- using MATE as default in my /etc/xrdp/startws.sh -- my video is not corrupted and works fine (as in the past). Any ideas about what is going on ? or how to fix this ?

  Hi, I used to remote access the SBS 2003 server through RDC and it has been working all the time but now I am unable to connect to the server. Whenever I pressed the "Connect" button on the Remote Desktop Connection dialog, a dialog with messages like "Connecting to: xx.xx.xx.xx" and "Configuring remote session..." appeared and then disappeared quickly, leaving the Remote Desktop Connection dialog there. • CRXIR2 doesn't work with VS2010 on Windows 7 nor on Vista

  We're upgrading from VS2005 to VS2010. We are almost there but there is a problem with Crystal Reports. We use the RDC (COM-based) component within our C++ application. On Windows 7 or on VISTA, I can't get the viewer nor the designer controls working. I get Access Violations when the control is activated: // from atlhost.h (line 2208) hr = m_spOleObject->DoVerb(OLEIVERB_INPLACEACTIVATE, NULL, spClientSite, 0, m_hWnd, &m_rcPos); The strange thing is that when I run the same exe on a XP machine, it seems to work. We basically use "AtlAxWin100" window class to host the Crystal report control ("CrystalReports11.ActiveXReportViewer.1") in. I'm using the SP6 version of Crystal reports so that's the latest version. Also, when I compile the same code with VS2005 and run it on Windows7 or Vista everything works out just fine. Does anybody have any idea about what might cause the problem, or ideas for further investigations?

• Mouse wheel in VirtualPC (mostly) does not work on 64-bit Windows 7 RC

  I have recently upgraded my laptop from WinXP Pro (32-bit) to Windows 7 RC (64-bit). I have a number of VirtualPC 2007 images that I use for testing on various platforms and looking at beta software. I have installed the 64-bit version of VirtualPC. The images all work with the exception of the mouse wheel within the virtual machine. I have tried this out with WinXP Pro, Windows 7 RC, and Windows Server 2008 images. All are 32-bit and all exhibit the same behavior: a gentle rotation of the wheel does nothing; a quick rotation of the wheel sometimes gets a scroll and sometimes not. I regard this behavior as unusable as I tend to use the mouse wheel a lot. All of this worked just fine on WinXP. I have re-installed the Virtual machine additions on all of the machines. The Windows 7 RC virtual image was created after the upgrade to Windows 7 and the 64-bit version of VirtualPC (just to isolate the possibility that I had corrupted the images during the transition). I have googled, binged, and yahoo-ed. There are scattered mentions of this problem (dating back to VPC 2004) but no solutions. I am aware that I could start up one of these images and then use remote desktop connections to get access to that image. I, in fact, do just that for some development that I am doing; the mouse works just fine. This is acceptable in this case because I spend hours at a time in the development VM. These test environments are different in that I will bring up an image for just a short time: minutes rather than hours. Adding the rdc step is much more significant in these cases. Does anyone have any idea of what to do next?

Finally, both computers are on the same Homegroup so that RDC can be accessed by one click through the network section of Windows. They're also on the same workgroup, MSHOME, just to see if that helps.

  Hi, I dont know if this is the correct place to ask this question but here goes .. (please note that I am pretty much a newbie in terms of networking and I work primarily on the windows platform) I have been working on accessing and consuming some web services in C#/ASP.Net, these web services that I consume are IP restricted. Currently they allow access only from my work network (we have a static ip set up through which all our internet requests are routed). Every now and then we have people who go out and about and are stuck with using a usb dongle based internet connection and hence are not able to now access these web services that they are working on. What I would like to do is to provide some way for these remote workers to access the IP restricted web services using the static ip at our office. For example when the remote worker tries to access a service say http://exampleService.com .. the request gets routed to some box at our office and then out to the actual service. That way the service always sees the static ip of the office and not the dynamic ip that the remote user is actually using. I have done a fair bit of googling and its difficult to search for it as most of the results come back for dynamic DNS which is not really what I am looking for. I have also looked at a couple of posts on here namely Accessing IP restricted server from dynamic IP which does provide some insight but the fellow seems to have access to the source that does the ip restriction and is able to change the restrictions. In my case i dont have that access. another one that looked interesting was Static IP for dynamic IP the first answer seems exactly what I need but I dont know how I would go about doing the same on a windows machine. any help would be really appreciated. (am sorry about being soo noob-ish) PS: Right now everyone is using RDC/LogMeIn to access an internet connected machine in the office to manually check the webservice and getting work done. Which is a very tedious process.
