    I'm not a Perl user, but from this question deduced that it's exceedingly easy to retrieve the standard output of a program executed through a Perl script using something akin to: $version = `java -version`; How would I go about getting the same end result in Python? Does the above line retrieve standard error (equivalent to C++ std::cerr) and standard log (std::clog) output as well? If not, how can I retrieve those output streams as well? Thanks, Geoff

    Hi...all experts! I'm a newbie to iphone developer. Well, currently, I'm developing iphone for Location Based Service. That application need to have these functions. 1. hierarchical tree-view on navigation bar. 2. list up page 3. detail page for example, Let's say. I have top category like "Restaurant, Hotel, Gift Shop" Second level "New York, LA, London,....." Third Level displays all Data with 1 photo. Fourth Level displays Detail of that "Restaurant or Hotel, Gift shop, ..." So, My Only Interest is "How to retrieve the data from remote database server. not using iphone local one." Because, that locations, and shops should be updated frequently, (you know some shops closed, new shops opens.) So, till now, I figured out that using XML to retrieve data. However, using XML is the most effective way to implement? Is there any other way to accomplish this work? You know, transferring XML data via 3G Network is really slow. XML file have more bytes than plist file. I'm currently a beginner of iphone development. So, please help me find a right way!! And, one more question, if I use xml way. Is it possible to Paging? (First page 10 lists up, below that more button...) well, you might guess each category have hundreds of shops!!

    So, I want to retrieve the order of the elements of a list. The order is set before by the user, and are stored in the table below. Because I also want to retrieve name and description of the list elements I need to combine two tables (see below). However, what is actually retrieved is an array containing 16 elements (should be four because it only exists four elements as for now). The array is too long to post here, but I put it in a phpFiddle to be found here if you're interested. I tried using the code on this page: Reading Text File From Server on Android It didn't work, as you might have guessed. I've read on numerous sites about this type of problem, but I can't get anything to work. Someone suggested AndroidHttpClient (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/http/AndroidHttpClient.html), but I simply can't find any examples with this. As I'm a newbie in Android programming, I would love if someone could please give me a small example.

    hello, i'm creating a flex application and trying to debug using the "Network Monitor" view. The script i'm debugging fetches a PHP session variable (the PHP outputs xml) and the actionscript retrieves the value from the HTTPService event. if I am using say a chrome browser, i can correctly retrieve the session variable ANY TIME. if I switch to say a firefox browser, then clearly the chrome session variable is unavailable to firefox. My issue is that I create the session variable with say chrome, and then try to retrieve my session variable from my FLEX application debugger (which always returns null) -when I really want it to return my session variable. is there a way for my flex debugger to retrieve this session variable set by chrome (or any browser)? (I'm even using chrome as my debugging browser for flex)

    Hi, I was wondering what the best way is to retrieve a certain field of all documents returned by a Searcher of Lucene. Background: each document has a date field (written on) and I would like to show a timeline of all found documents, so I need to extract the date (day) field of all the documents I find with the search. I currently retrieve every document using Searcher.doc(int, FieldSelector) having the selector only retrieve the certain field. I have indexed 250k documents, the search itself takes no time and returns about 10k document ids. Retrieving those however, takes 20+ seconds. What can I do to speed things up, but still get all the values I need. Thx in advance Philipp
