  • Altering the Windows 7 grouping thumbnail preview

    I like the windows 7 grouping behaviour for multiple similar windows, except when I have multiple Explorer windows open. In this case, showing thumbnails of each open explorer window is next to useless, and I would like to know how to either: Disable thumbnail display completely (but preserve the grouping behaviour) Disable thumbnail display for a subset of programs (all explorer.exe instances) Change the number of similar programs that are open before the grouping behaviour falls back on a more sensible text preview when hovering over the taskbar icon (currently 14 or over) I don't particularly want to disable any other features of windows to get this behaviour, so disabling the theme compleletely isn't what I want to do. I definitely want to keep the grouping behaviour. Its just those thumbnail previews I would like to alter.   • Are there any good Javascript/Jquery thumbnail script equivalents to TimThimb (PHP)?

    For those unaware of TimThumb, it will take any image, of any size or dimension and create a thumbnail on the fly to any desired size. The beauty of it is that it really works on any dimension you feed it through a combination of either resizing the image, cropping or zoom cropping the image. Ive been searching for jscript equvalents but they either require the user to actually mask out the thumbs manually (looking for a script that automatically does it to images) or the scripts can't handle images in a different aspect ratio. Thanks for any leads on this!

    I want to keep icons for shortcuts in thumbnail view. eg: my pics folder is in thumbnail, but I want to easily see my familiar icons for shortcuts to various outside folders I drag the pics into, amongst the hundreds of pics and subfolders within my pics (which display the same as shortcuts at a glance) I had it like this on my last machine but I can't remember what I had to do. Reg tweak for filetype I think. (Using XPpro) Any clues? Thanks

  • [Concept] How does unlink() find the file to delete?

    My app has a 'Photo' field to store URL. It uses sfWidgetFormInputFileEditable for the widget schema. To delete the old image when a new image is uploaded, I use unlink before setting the value in the over-ridden setter and it works!!! if (file_exists($this->_get('photo'))) unlink($this->_get('photo')); Photos are stored in uploads/photos and when saving 'Photo' only the file name xxx-yyy.zzz is saved (and not the full path). However, I wish to know how symfony/php knows the full path of the file to be deleted? Part 2: I am using sfThumbnailPlugin to generate thumbnails.     Hi everyone, Using Lightbox for a photo gallery and would like to initiate the function by clicking on the thumbnail's parent <li>rather than the thumbnail image. I have been able to do this easily with the thumbnail for the album (not using Lightbox, simply opening another page) with the following code: $(".item").click(function(){ window.location=$(this).find("a").attr("href");return false; }); However, can't seem to initiate Lightbox in a similar fashion.     I don't think this is entirely possible, but here we go: I have a friend who has a Blogspot blog. He has posts with text, posts with videos and posts with photos... and he was wondering if there's any way to turn the posts which are just photos into a thumbnail gallery screen on his blog. So for example, let's say he has 20 photo posts on his blog with the label Skiing Holiday 2009 (horrible example, I know). Is there a way of having a post created for his blog that displays those photos as thumbnails, linking through to their full size versions? I just don't think it's possible, but I'm really hoping someone will be able to offer a solution (or even a place where I could find a solution). Thanks a lot.

  • Trying to generate proportionally cropped thumbnails at a fixed width/height with PHP GD

    I'm trying to create a Thumbnail Generator in PHP with GD that will take an image and reduce it to a fixed width/height. The square it takes from the original image (based on my fixed width/height) will come from the center of the image to give a proportionally correct thumbnail. I'll try to demonstrate that confusing sentence with some nice ASCII :} LANDSCAPE EXAMPLE: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX PORTRAIT EXAMPLE: XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX OOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX As you can see, it pulls out a square from the center of the image to use as a thumbnail. It seems simple, in theory, to get the height/width of the image and then calculate the offset based on my fixed width/height to get the thumbnail. But I can't seem to think of a way to code it :/ Also, how would I go about resizing the image before pulling out the center square? So the thumbnail contains a detailed image of the original rather than some zoomed in graphic?

  • Firefox: tabs containing a single image sometimes show generic icon instead of thumbnail

    My version of Firefox is 3.5.9, but I've had this issue since single-image tabs started showing a thumbnail of the contained image. Typically, a tab containing a single image will use a thumbnail of the image as the icon before the tab title. Sometimes, though, this icon will be the generic “shaded sphere on blank page” (or perhaps whatever your theme defaults to). I'm guessing this happens whenever height or width is larger than 1024, but I seem to recall (perhaps erroneously) exceptions to this rule. Anyway, hopefully someone will know the definite answer to: Why does this happen?   • Failure when adding images to a thumbnail gallery

    morning all, I've been browsing around trying to work out what I've done wrong when trying to add a thumbnail to a gallery view, but can't work out what on earth it might be. I'm trying to use the following code to stick a thumbnail onto a blank view: UIImageView *any = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(a,b,70,60)]; any.image = [UIImage imageNamed:selectedThumbPath]; any.tag = 0; [self.view addSubview:any]; In the above example: a = 165 b = 150 selectedThumbPath = the full path to a thumbnail ie. /users/Cleverbum/library etc I'm pulling my hair out, there are no error messages, and no clues as to why it's not drawing anything. What's worse is that this is one of the only parts of the code i've not changed!

  • MessageBox not shown when opened processing WM_CLOSE from taskbar thumbnail close button

    Trying to put up a "Do you want to save"-dialog when trying to close window with close-button in taskbar thumbnail in windows 7(with aero peek active). Using MessageBox() when processing WM_CLOSE does not work. MessageBox won't show until you move mouse cursor outside thumbnail so aero peek is disabled. Lots of applications have this buggy behaviour so it's probably a design flaw in Windows 7, but for some programs it works (Word, Notepad, Visual Studio, ...), so I'm wondering what trick they are using(or what it takes to "exit" aero peek-mode programmatically). The small "Sound Recorder" application that comes with Windows 7 has the same problem (if you have recorded something without saving and try to close it using thumbnail close-button)...

    What I need to do is a program that given (as a command line argument) a directory with more directoreies inside, and 4 Pics inside of each dir, the program makes a thumbnail of the 4 files and glues them together (2 rows, 2 columns) and renames that image to the name of the directory. I think it could be done with a combination of a program and shell scripting (I'm experienced in M$, but new to linux). Some real examples would be great. Thanx in advance

  • Increase the size of Taskbar Preview Thumbnails in Windows 7

    Taskbar thumbnail previews are incredibly useful in Windows 7, but for some users they may be too small.  Here’s a tool to help you make your taskbar thumbnail previews just like you want them. A few years ago we featured a tool to increase the size of your thumbnail previews in Windows Vista, but unfortunately this application doesn’t work correctly in Windows 7.  However, there is a new tool for Windows 7 that lets you customize your taskbar thumbnail previews even more in Windows 7.  With it, you can change almost anything about your taskbar thumbnail previews.  The default taskbar thumbnails are nice, but may be too small for users with vision problems or with very high resolution monitors.  Whatever your need, this is a great tool to make the thumbnails looks and work just like you want. Let’s get started Download the Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer (link below), and unzip the files.  Run the Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer when you’re done.  Simply double-click on it; you don’t need to run it as administrator. Now, you change the size, spacing, margin, and delay time of your taskbar thumbnails.  The Delay Time setting is very handy; to speed things up, we set it to 0 so there’s no delay between when you mouse-over a taskbar icon to when you see the thumbnail.  Simply drag the slider to the size (or time in the delay settings) you want, and click Apply settings.  Windows Explorer will automatically restart, and your new taskbar thumbnails will be ready to use. Here is the default Windows 7 thumbnail preview of a video playing in Media player: And here’s the taskbar thumbnail enlarged to 380px.  Now you can really watch a video from your taskbar thumbnail. The larger taskbar thumbnails show up a little different in Internet Explorer.  It shows a larger preview of your active tab, and smaller previews of your other tabs.  Notice also that Aero peek shows the tab you’re hovering over in Internet Explorer, but the tab name in IE’s toolbar doesn’t change to the one you’re previewing.   Here we increased the width between the thumbnails, while keeping the thumbnails at their default size.  This could be useful if you have trouble selecting the correct preview, and we can imagine it would be a very useful modification on touch screens. And, if you ever take your changes too far, and want to revert to your default Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail previews, simply run the Customizer again and select Restore Defaults.  Windows Explorer will restart again, and your taskbar thumbnails will be back to their default settings.   Conclusion This tool makes it safe and easy to change the size, spacing, and more of your taskbar thumbnail previews.  And since you can always revert to the default settings, you can experiment without fear of messing up your computer.  If you’d prefer to change the settings manually without using a dedicated application, here’s a list of the registry changes you can make to accomplish this by hand.
