  • Using HTML5 Today part 2&ndash;Fixing Semantic tags with a Shiv

    - by Steve Albers
Semantic elements and the Shiv! This is the second entry in the series of demos from the “Using HTML5 Today” talk. For the definitive discussion on unknown elements and the HTML5 Shiv check out Mark Pilgrim’s Dive Into HTML5 online book at http://diveintohtml5.info/semantics.html#unknown-elements Semantic tags increase the meaning and maintainability of your markup, help make your page more computer-readable, and can even provide opportunities for libraries that are written to automagically enhance content using standard tags like <nav>, <header>,  or <footer>. Legacy IE issues However, new HTML5 tags get mangled in IE browsers prior to version 9.  To see this in action, consider this bit of HTML code which includes the new <article> and <header> elements: Viewing this page using the IE9 developer tools (F12) we see that the browser correctly models the hierarchy of tags listed above: But if we switch to IE8 Browser Mode in developer tools things go bad: Did you know that a closing tag could close itself?? The browser loses the hierarchy & closes all of the new tags.  The new tags become unusable and the page structure falls apart. Additionally block-level elements lose their block status, appearing as inline.    The Fix (good) The block-level issue can be resolved by using CSS styling.  Below we set the article, header, and footer tags as block tags. article, header, footer {display:block;} You can avoid the unknown element issue by creating a version of the element in JavaScript before the actual HTML5 tag appears on the page: <script> document.createElement("article"); document.createElement("header"); document.createElement("footer"); </script> The Fix (better) Rather than adding your own JS you can take advantage of a standard JS library such as Remy Sharp’s HTML5 Shiv at http://code.google.com/p/html5shiv/.  By default the Modernizr library includes HTML5 Shiv, so you don’t need to include the shiv code separately if you are using Modernizr.

  • WordPress: Related Posts by Tags, but in the Same Categories

    - by Norbert
    I'm using the script below to get related posts by tags, but noticed that if I have a picture of a bird tagged white and a table also tagged white, the table will show up in the related posts section of the bird. Is there a way to only get posts that match at least one of the categories, so bird and table won't be related, unless they share one category? I tried setting an category__in array inside $args, but no luck! <?php $tags = wp_get_post_tags($post->ID); if ($tags) { $tag_ids = array(); foreach($tags as $individual_tag) $tag_ids[] = $individual_tag->term_id; $args=array( 'tag__in' => $tag_ids, 'post__not_in' => array($post->ID), 'showposts'=>6, // Number of related posts that will be shown. 'caller_get_posts'=>1 ); $my_query = new wp_query($args); if( $my_query->have_posts() ) { while ($my_query->have_posts()) { $my_query->the_post(); ?> <?php if ( get_post_meta($post->ID, 'Image', true) ) { ?> <a style="text-decoration: none;" href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"> <img style="max-height: 125px; margin: 15px 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/scripts/timthumb.php?src=<?php echo get_post_meta($post->ID, "Image", $single = true); ?>&w=125&zc=1" alt="" /> </a> <?php } ?> <?php } } } ?>

  • javascript replace div tags for p tags where it has no class

    - by Tom
I would like to replace div tags for p tags but only when the div tag does not have a class. So this: <div class="myDiv"> <div>sdfglkhj sdfgkhl sdfkhgl sdf</div> <div>dsf osdfghjksdfg hsdfg</div> </div> Would become: <div class="myDiv"> <p>sdfglkhj sdfgkhl sdfkhgl sdf</p> <p>dsf osdfghjksdfg hsdfg</p> </div> I've tried .replace("<div>", "<p>").replace("</div>","</p>") but this replaces the closing tag of the one with a class.

  • Editing tags in bunch of MP3 files?

    - by overtherainbow
I have a bunch of files whose filename looks like "<Track> - <Title> - <Artist>.mp3". I'd like to rewrite their MP3 Title tag to be "<Track> - <Title>.mp3" so that each song is displayed correctly on my elcheapo MP3 player. Since I rarely edit MP3 files anyway, MP3 Tag Tools 1.2 Build 008 from 2003 was good enough, but I can't figure out how to do this with this application. I just tried MP3Tag 2.46, but couldn't figure out if it can do this (created a new Action, to no avail). I also tried TagScanner 5.1.558, without success. Does someone know of a good, free Windows application that can do this? Thank you.

  • Searchable tags in Excel?

    - by Dustin Sanders
I'm building a database of spiders, organizing them by name, country, and region within that country. The problem is that many of the spiders exist in multiple countries and regions within that country. I want to be able to sort spiders by either country, or region, without having to enter a duplicate entry for every country or region that spider exists in. For example: Say Spider A exists in the USA and Australia. In the USA it lives in the South and North West. In Australia it lives in New South Wales. Is there a way I can make one entry for this spider, but tag it so it will show up when I search for spiders in USASouth or AustraliaNew South Wales?

  • How to add tags to emails in Gmail

    - by martani_net
I want a way to tag emails in Gmail so that I can remember their sources and context. I'm not talking about labels, imagine this scenario; I sent an email to more than 8 recipients, and then they answered me, each recipient is teaching a different course, and I want to tag each received email with its specific course. All the emails are under one label as you see in the following picture: Is there any way to tag email in Gmail, the same way we can tag posts on Google reader? Thank you

  • replace html tags within xml content with wordML formatting tags

    - by Josh
I am taking an XML document and creating a word document using XSLT and OpenXML. The problem is that when I create the word document, all of the HTML that is within the CDATA tags are not escaped and look like this: GET /recipe/recipe/cat.php/&gt;&quot;&gt;&lt;script&gt;alert(document.domain)&lt;/script&gt; I have tried defining "cdata-section-elements" in my xsl:output; however I receive an error stating that p tag doesn't match the w:t tag.(the p tag is apart of the CDATA HTML). Here is what one of my xsl templates looks like: <xsl:template match="SECTION"> <w:p w:rsidR="00272D24" w:rsidRPr="00272D24" w:rsidRDefault="00272D24"> <w:pPr> <w:rPr> <w:rFonts w:ascii="Arial" w:hAnsi="Arial" w:cs="Arial"/> </w:rPr> </w:pPr> </xsl:template> <w:r w:rsidRPr="00272D24"> <w:rPr> <w:rFonts w:ascii="Arial" w:hAnsi="Arial" w:cs="Arial"/> </w:rPr> <w:t> <xsl:value-of select="INFORMATION"/> </w:t> </w:r> </w:p> Here is what the xml looks like: <INFORMATION> <![CDATA[ <P> line 1 of information <P> line 2 of information.......]]> </INFORMATION> Here is what the word output looks like: (white space and poor formatting) DIAGNOSIS: <P> line 1 of information. <P> line 2 of information I need to be able to somehow render the HTML or strip out the HTML. If I strip out the HTML then I would have to search for every possible HTML element, which is madness! Any help at all would be appreciated... Thanks.

  • Zend_Filter_StripTags ignoring allowed tags and attributes

    - by Jhorra
    I'm trying to use the following code and it still strips out all the tags. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using the newest V1.10 $allowed_tags = array('img', 'object', 'param', 'embed', 'a', 'href', 'p', 'br', 'em', 'strong', 'li', 'ol', 'span'); $allowed_attributes = array('style', 'src', 'alt', 'href', 'width', 'height', 'value', 'name', 'type', 'embed', 'quality', 'pluginspage'); Zend_Loader::loadClass('Zend_Filter_StripTags'); $html_filter = new Zend_Filter_StripTags($allowed_tags, $allowed_attributes); $post = $html_filter->filter($this->_request->getPost('post'));

  • How to test custom template tags in Django?

    - by Mark Lavin
I'm adding a set of template tags to a Django application and I'm not sure how to test them. I've used them in my templates and they seem to be working but I was looking for something more formal. The main logic is done in the models/model managers and has been tested. The tags simply retrieve data and store it in a context variable such as {% views_for_object widget as views %} """ Retrieves the number of views and stores them in a context variable. """ # or {% most_viewed_for_model main.model_name as viewed_models %} """ Retrieves the ViewTrackers for the most viewed instances of the given model. """ So my question is do you typically test your template tags and if you do how do you do it?

  • XmlTextWriter.WriteFullEndElement tags on the same line

    - by Apeksha
I am using an XMLTextWriter to create an XML document dynamically (in VB.Net). I want empty tags to appear like this - <Tag></Tag> and not this - <Tag /> So, I am using WriteFullEndElement to end the element tag. But it is writing out the tag as - <Tag> </Tag> i.e. with a newline character between the tags. The web service reading this XML rejects it due to the newline character. How do I avoid the newline, and have both the start and end tags on the same line?

  • Get the tags of a document in Subversion

    - by Onno
I was wondering if there is a way to easily see the tags of a specific file in Subversion using the command line and/or TortoiseSVN. Most version control system allow you to see easily access the tags/labels of a file. When using TortoiseSVN I can do this when I access the "Revision Graph". This however is a operation that takes around 44 minutes. I consider this very hard work just to know what tags have been created for the file. Is there another way to do it? Or is there no way to instantaneously access tag information. Thanks, Onno

  • start page with questions about interested tags?

    - by Stefan K.
I'm new to stackoverflow and I'm looking for a question list, like the one on top, which just contains questions about interested tags. For example I'm interested in Java, but I have no clue about Python and questions about python clutters my questions page. I don't have answers concerning any python problem. I think it's too exhausting to enter my interested tags in the search combined with [xxx] OR. Is there a usable way to do this? By the way, what for are interested tags used right now? I added some in my profile but didn't see a benefit.

  • Tags php improving database speed and user experience

    - by Doodle
How did stackOverFlow, excuse me if it wasn't the first implementation of this system. Decide what its initial tags where? I want to provide users with the best experience on my site and am implementing a tags system. I don't care about search engines or any of that. I just care about my users. Does any one have any advice about things that have failed or succeeded when they allowed users to tag things? Does any one know some good resources about the methodologies of user tagging? Does any one know some good resources about implementing a tags system from a programming perspective, database structures, theories, etc ? I'll give my check to who ever I feel points me in the best direction on the subject.

  • List tags with commits in the same format like git branch -v

    - by NickSoft
Hi I would like to list tags like it's listed by: # git branch -v * devel e7f5e36 firxed bugs master 63e9c56 remove unused code without the * (you can't checkout tag). It would be good to have an option to list full or short SHA1. A bash script is also fine, but it would be nice to use git commands more and shell scripting less. I've read this question Git - how to tell which commit a tag points to and it helped me, but it's not all I want. Edit: I didn't know that annotated tags had SHA1. I wanted SHA1 of commits that tag points to, not the tags themselfs.

  • How do I strip local symbols from linux kernel module without breaking it?

    - by Kimvais
If I do --strip-debug or --strip-unneeded, I have the .ko that lists all function names with nm, if I do just strip foo.ko I have a kernel module that refuses to load. Does anyone know a quick shortcut how to remove all symbols that are not needed for module loading so that people cannot reverse engineer the API:s as easily? PS: For all you open source bigots; this is something that general public will never be using in any case so no need to turn the question into a GPL flame war.

  • HTML custom tags: pros & cons

    - by o_O Tync
I'd like to use some semantic HTML tags instead of <div>s: <article>, <product>, <footer> etc. Some of them are already presented in the upcoming HTML5, however, it's not fully supported. Which are the possible cons I might face when Rendering? Using CSS, JS? The one I remember is: IE6 can't clone tags it doesn't know.

  • Database Schema for Machine Tags?

    - by Gabriel
Machine tags are more precise tags: http://www.flickr.com/groups/api/discuss/72157594497877875. They allow a user to basically tag anything as an object in the format object:property=value Any tips on a rdbms schema that implements this? Just wondering if anyone has already dabbled with this. I imagine the schema is quite similar to implementing rdf triples in a rdbms

  • How to: Searchlogic and Tags

    - by bob
I have installed searchlogic and added will_paginate etc. I currently have a product model that has tagging enabled using the acts_as_taggable_on plugin. I want to search the tags using searchlogic. Here is the taggable plugin page: http://github.com/mbleigh/acts-as-taggable-on Each product has a "tag_list" that i can access using Product.tag_list or i can access a specific tag using Product.tags[0] I can't find the scope to use for searching however with search logic. Here is my part of my working form. <p> <%= f.label :name_or_description_like, "Name" %><br /> <%= f.text_field :name_or_description_like %> </p> I have tried :name_or_description_or_tagged_with_like and :name_or_description_or_tags_like and also :name_or_description_or_tags_list_like to try and get it to work but I keep have an error that says the options i have tried are not found (named scopes not found). I am wondering how I can get this working or how to create my own named_scope that would allow me to search the tags added to each product by the taggable plugin. Thanks!

  • Facebook Like Meta Tags not showing Images

    - by Hooman Ahmadi
    I have implemented the Facebook Like button on all our pages and it works properly by posting to Facebook with the correct meta tags. However, the images do not show in Facebook. The image meta tags show up properly when I use the Facebook Linter, but they don't show on someone's facebook page where the Like is posted on their wall. Also, is there any way to have the info recache more often? The tags take forever to update. Our site is built with CakePHP. Below are snippets of my code, thanks: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:og="http://ogp.me/ns#" xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml"> <head> <script src="http://connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://use.typekit.com/wlx8xgm.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript">try{Typekit.load();}catch(e){}</script> <?php if(!isset($meta_title)) { $meta_title = $title_for_layout; } if(!isset($meta_location)) { $meta_location = null; } if(!isset($meta_image)) { $meta_image = null; } if(!isset($meta_type)) { $meta_type = null; } ?> <meta property="og:title" content="<?= $meta_title ?>"/> <meta property="og:type" content="<?= $meta_type ?>"/> <meta property="og:url" content="<?= $meta_location ?>"/> <meta property="og:image" content="<?= $meta_image ?>"/> <meta property="fb:admins" content="1004432800"/> ... echo '<br><br><fb:like href="' . $fbook_url .   • Regular Expression HTML tags

    - by user134615
I'd like to know whether it exists a way to put the following HTML tags in a regex. What I want is a regex that can match all the start tags with their corresponding closing tags. E.g., Hello There might be more tags inside. I had thought of something like this: ^<([a-z]+)([^<]+)(?:(.)</\1|\s+/)$/, but it wont work. Sorry if this question doesnt belong to this section. Thank you.

  • RegEx match open tags except XHTML self-contained tags

    - by Jeff
I need to match all of these opening tags: <p> <a href="foo"> But not these: <br /> <hr class="foo" /> I came up with this and wanted to make sure I've got it right. I am only capturing the a-z. <([a-z]+) *[^/]*?> I believe it says: Find a less-than, then Find (and capture) a-z one or more times, then Find zero or more spaces, then Find any character zero or more times, greedy, except /, then Find a greater-than Do I have that right? And more importantly, what do you think? =) EDIT: Hmm, which answer to mark as correct? For the record, ALL the answers are appreciated. Many thanks!
