    Just curious what experienced Textmate users can't live without in the program. I just ran the trial and bought the program so I'm trying to get a sense of how others might setup their development environment for web development. Also, based on the fact that I just bought the program, I am going to guess that TM2 will come out next week. Yes, that's right, next week. Unfortunately, because of my luck, it will not be a free upgrade...upgrades will cost more.

  • TextMate can show definition of a function easily?

    I am using TextMate on a Ruby on Rails project and wonder if you can put the mouse on link_to, and then press a key and it will show the definition of link_to, or does this for any other helper functions? Or, click open a box and type in a function name and it will show you the definition?

  • TextMate suddenly highlighting all text dark red...?

    I'm using TextMate on Snow Leopard, don't know much about how it works. After I hit an unknown keyboard shortcut, it suddenly decided to highlight almost all text in my Python files dark red - making all my Python virtually unreadable! I must have accidentally pressed a shortcut - but I've no idea what I did or how to turn it off, and can't find any relevant help in the manual or form. Even just 'turn off all highlighting' would do. Anyone know how to turn this highlighting off? Bit desperate!

  • Editing remote files over SSH, using TextMate?

    I LOVE using TextMate on my MacBook. It's great. Unfortunately, I want to edit some files directly on my dev server, since it's difficult to recreate the environment locally. I'm using Git, so one alternative is to just edit locally, git commit, git push, and then git merge, but that's kind of complicated every time I want to make a simple change. I'd rather just ... use another solution. One thing I tried is mounting a hard drive via MacFusion, and then loading that in an editor. But that's so freaking laggy/slow! Has anyone cooked up a better solution?

  • TextMate Theme Select Attribute Value

    Hello, I need to change the color of certain attributes/tags. I am switching from Dreamweaver and making the skin has been really hard in TextMate. As you can see, I want to change the a and img tags along with all of their attributes. The closest I've come to find is entity.other.attribute-name which only works with id for some reason entity.other.attribute-name.id Bonus would be the scope selector for the value of an attribute, e.g. "Logo" alt in the above example.   • Is there an Alternative to TextMate's mate and rmate for Windows?

    As part of the upcoming TextMate 2 release, there will be a new feature called rmate, which will allow you to edit files from a remote machine (Linux/Unix/OSX) via SSH using your local copy of TextMate... Is there something similar for Windows? I know i could use CyberDuck, find the file i want to edit, download locally, work on it and then re-upload, but rmate looks like you just type rmate on the remote server, and text mate pops up with the file. (i have not tried since i am not a TextMate owner) Is there something similar for Windows?

  • Cucumber bundle not working in Textmate

    I set up Aslak's Cucumber.tmbundle in Texmate, set up PATH in Shell Variables to /Users/gerhard/.rvm/bin:/Users/gerhard/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin but when I run any of the bundle commands I get this: env: sh\r: No such file or directory /usr/bin/env sh is in the search path, so what am I missing?

    I want to be able to color lines differently based on the starting character. eg.: - This is line 1 - This is line 2 x This is line 3 - This is line 4 x This is line 5 So lines 1,2,4 (starting with '-') should be blue while lines 3,5 (starting with 'x') should be red. Is this possible? How would you do it? Thanks.

    Sometimes I watch screen casts where someone is using text mate. I'm a rails developer, so these are rails screen casts. They'll type something like: def for example and "end" will automatically appear underneath. I do have the bundle for Rails enabled - why doesn't this happen for me? Thanks!

  • How do I get Xcode and TextMate to calibrate syntax highlighting colours the same way?

    This is a mostly insignificant problem, but it's been bugging me for a while and I figured someone on here might be as ridiculously OCD as I am (this is a programmer community after all). Basically, the problem is that TextMate doesn't seem to calibrate syntax highlighting colours, while Xcode does. What this means in practice is that, while I've faithfully recreated my TextMate theme in Xcode, the syntax highlighting in Xcode seems noticeably less vivid that it does in TextMate. If I use DigitalColor Meter to check the actual colours in Xcode, they don't match the values I entered, while in TextMate they do. Any ideas what's going on here? Thanks!

    Using TextMate: Is it possible to assign a shortcut to preview/refresh the currently edited HTML document in, say, Firefox, without having to first hit Save? I'm looking for the same functionality as TextMate's built-in Web Preview window, but I'd prefer an external browser instead of TextMate's. (Mainly in order to use a JavaScript console such as Firebug for instance). Would it be possible to pipe the currently unsaved document through the shell and then preview in Firefox. And if so, is there anyone having a TextMate command for this, willing to share it?

  • How can I add the "--watch" flag to this TextMate snippet?

    I love TextMate as my editor for all things web, and so I'd like to use a snippet to use it with style.less files to automatically take advantage of the .less way of compiling .css files on the fly using the native $ lessc {filepath} --watch as suggested in the less documentation (link) My (thanks to someone who wrote the LESS TM Bundle!) current TextMate snippet works well for writing the currently opened .less file to the .css file but I'd like to take advantage of the --watch parameter so that every change to the .less file gets automatically compiled into the .css file. This works well when using the Terminal command line for it, so I am sure it must be possible to use it in an adapted version of the current LESS Command for TextMate since that only invokes the command to compile the file. So how do I add the --watch flag to this command:? #!/usr/bin/env ruby file = STDIN.read[/lessc: ([^*]+\.less)/, 1] || ENV["TM_FILEPATH"] system("lessc \"#{file}\"") I assume it should be something like: #!/usr/bin/env ruby file = STDIN.read[/lessc: ([^*]+\.less)/, 1] || ENV["TM_FILEPATH"] system("lessc \"#{file}\" --watch") But doing so only crashes the TextMate.app. Any ideas would be much appreciated.   • TextMate blogging bundle: real sync between blog and project?

    I'm looking for a solution to sync between a blog and a project or any other folder for that matter. Alternatively, any other Mac app would help which allows to sync an xmlrpc.php with a folder. The TextMate Blogging bundle works fine with fetch and post. But I can't find a way to sync. I tend to re-edit my blog posts, e.g. categories and formatting details. There's a good chance I lose some work, when I post the project file again rather than fetch + re-post.

  • How do you enable block folding for Python comments in TextMate?

    In TextMate 1.5.10 r1623, you get little arrows that allow you to fold method blocks: Unfortunately, if you have a multi-lined Python comment, it doesn't recognize it, so you can't fold it: def foo(): """ How do I fold these comments? """ print "bar" TextMate has this on their site on how to customize folding: http://manual.macromates.com/en/navigation_overview#customizing_foldings ...but I'm not skilled in regex enough to do anything about it. TextMate uses the Oniguruma regex API, and I'm using the default Python.tmbundle updated to the newest version via GetBundles. Does anyone have an idea of how to do this?   • How to perform multiple find and replace in TextMate besides macro?

    I have several regular expressions to find and replace text in documents in TextMate. I would like to be able to have them run in a batch. I made a macro and it worked, but any tiny modifications to the macro means re-recording the macro. And I can't seem to modify the regex within the TextMate interface. It's read-only for some reason. Can I make it into a command? Does anyone know how? I tried to read the TextMate help about commands, but it wasn't much help. It seems I need prior knowledge of shell scripts or some sort (which I have none). Any advise in the direction would be great. Thanx in advance.
