  • How can I get into the educational market?

    I believe that my current game project is very well-suited for educational gaming; so well-suited, in fact, that I know of several different schools (one community college and at least one or two high schools) that have used versions of it at some time or another. And that's without any such marketing on my part. I'd like to expand on this part of the potential user base. But I have absolutely no experience in dealing with school administrations. How can I break into this market enough to be noticed? And on a side note, could marketing the game as educational kill the gamers market?

    Hi There, I have just written a game for the Android market and would like to remind my customers to leave feeback on the market for the application (especially the demo version.) Is there any way to launch the market intent in a mode that will take the user to the feedback / comments section of the page? I already use this approach for linking my demo to the paid app... Intent goToMarket = null; goToMarket = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW,Uri.parse("market://details?id=com.paulmaidment.games.flagsoftheworld")); startActivity(goToMarket); Is there a best practice that any Android devs out there might know of? Additionally, is there any way to track referalls from my demo app so that I can try to calculate some kind of a conversion rate? (i.e. how effective the demo app is at generating sales.)   • Android -- How to post app rating/comments to Market from within app?

    Hello all, This is a simple question. Is there a way to allow users to enter in a comment and or rating for my app from directly within my app and have that data posted back to the Android Market? If so, what would the code for that look like if I used an EditText view to allow user input? If not, then is my only other option directly linking to my app in the Market (i.e. the user clicks the link in my app, or a button, and the Market app launches with my app page displayed)? For example: view.setOnClickListener( new OnClickListener(){ public void onClick(View v) { startActivity( new Intent( Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("market://details?id=packagename") ) ); } } *where "packagename" is replaced by my app's package name from the manifest.   • In this slow Job Market, I have no choice to take a Job that uses VB.NET and is going to use C#. Advice?

    I really don't want to do VB.NET, but I need a Job and I need a Job Fast. The two positions I am looking at both have existing apps in VB.NET, but are looking to convert them to C# and do new development in C#, but as well all know, sometimes this doesn't happen for a while and you get stuck with the main language. My background is in C# and after looking at VB.NET, my head is hurting. Any advice as I tackle a Job like this. As I said, I preferably want stick with C#, but today, one may have no choice, so I have to just take what I get. I am looking for advice on this for those who have experienced it, are experiencing it, and those who have not.

  • Wordpress asks for FTP credentials, even though owner of the whole /var/www is www-data

    I'm trying to get Wordpress to run on my local Ubuntu 12.10 installation. When I try to install themes/plugins, it asks me for FTP credentials. I've been trying to get this to work for 2 days now. Everywhere on the web it says you should change the owner:group of your Wordpress directory to whateverowner:group runs your apache server - in my case www-data:www-data. I've done this, and even tryed setting permissions to the whole /var/www directory to 777, restarting apache and the whole system. But wordpress is still asking me for the FTP credentials. What else could this be?
