• Ubuntu 12.04 wont install on Macbook

  I've installed Ubuntu on my Macbook before but something went wrong with the updater. So, I had to backup my HDD and format it and reinstall OS X Lion. But here's the thing: Ever since I re-installed my OS I've been trying to get Ubuntu back on the HDD. I partitioned it to 40 GB and set the file system to Ext4. I also recently created a swap partition too and it seems to install correctly. After i installed rEFIt it just has this cute little penguin sitting there. I rebooted and tried to go back to Ubuntu and the penguin still shows up but this time a black screen pops up and it asks me to insert a bootable device and press any key. I'm not sure why this is happening. This is probably the 5th time I've tried to install it. I've even used a different Ubuntu ISO but it still won't boot after the installation.

• Ubuntu 12.10 wont fully load

  I want to try Ubuntu from my 16Gb stick without ditching Win7 just yet. Everything boots up fine, I get the spash screen, I get the question screen (Do you want to try Ubuntu or install (or something like that)) I select try and then my screen goes black with what appears to be a DOS prompt. No keyboard keys work at this time. Have tried re-downloading Ubuntu, rebooting etc. Any help very much appreciated. Regards Steve

• Ubuntu 12.10 wont boot

  im new to using Ubuntu and just bought a HP Pavilion g6-2240sa with windows 8 pre installed. I made a bootable USB with Ubuntu on it and installed alsongside windows, for 2 days it worked fine, I got into Ubuntu by doing an advanced restart from windows 8 and then booting Ubuntu from the partition it made. When i did the advanced restart today there was only 1 HDD i could select ( there were 3 before windows, a restore partition that was already there when i got the computer and Ubuntu) so i booted from the USB again and re-installed Ubuntu. then did an advanced restart and the 3 partitions where there again, i booted from Ubuntu and now heres my problem. I get the Ubuntu background when its loading then its just a black screen with some writing, its not on long enough to read, then just a black screen with a white _ and the top left corner that does nothing, i have to restat the computer and it auto boots into windows 8. im a little confused as the first time i installed Ubuntu it worked fine until the partition dissaperd), the second time i installed i did everything the same except it found the old Ubuntu so i reinstalled it and now is donst work.

• DVD wont mount Ubuntu 12.04

  I can't seem to be able to mount my optical drive. I have tried numerous solutions from this site with no results. I am not able to see the device inside the file browser either. There is a DVD in the drive. I am running 12.04 on an HP g60-235dx portable. I have a link below to the specs. I will also list what I have tried (that I can find back right now.) I know the drive is functioning, because just before Windows 7 crashed and my MBR went fubar I was watching movies just fine. I am fairly new to linux, so don't assume I know anything.   I downloaded this code sample and integrated it into my game http://xbox.create.msdn.com/en-US/education/catalog/sample/mesh_instancing It works with the model that they supplied, but throws and exception whenever I use one of my models. The current vertex declaration does not include all the elements required by the current vertex shader. TextureCoordinate0 is missing. I tried pluging my model into their original source code and same thing. My model is an fbx from blender and has a texture. • Keyboard and mouse/touchpad wont work in 11.10

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 onto my Fujitsu Lifebook N5010 Laptop yesterday and all seemed good up until this morning. My key board and mouse/touchpad no longer work. I can, however, plug in a usb mouse and that works so I am able to shut the laptop off. With the usb mouse plugged in I still can't use the keyboard so the only thing the mouse is good for is shutting the system down. When I first boot the system the mouse/touchpad and keyboard will work long enough so that I can log in my password but then after about 20 seconds or so the mouse/touchpad and keyboard stop working. I have searched the internet for answers and haven't found anything that is working for me. Someone suggested I type a particular command into the terminal but not real sure how I do that without a keyboard. And going out to buy a usb keyboard (assuming that would work) and usb mouse still doesn't fix the problem. Anybody have any suggestions I would REALLY appreciate it. I love Ubuntu but this is just not good.

• Ubuntu 12.04 fresh install wont boot up

  im running ubuntu 12.04 and it refuses to boot up. the screen will come on for a second, the mosue will appear, then itll go black again all inside about 3 seconds. i let it just do that for a while and eventually a window popped up saying i had a display issue. I didn't have a mouse but there was a button saying "ok" at the bottom that i couldnt click on. i hit enter, got through that screen, now im looking at another that says "What would you like to do?" - run in low-graphics mode for just one session - reconfigure graphics - troubleshoot the error - exit to console login then two buttons, cancel, and ok. I dont have a mouse and its not letting me navigate between these options with tab. firstly, if i make it through these windows will it get me into the computer so i can try and fix whats going on? also, whats going on here? also, how can i click on these buttons without the use of tab or a mouse?

• Can't boot into ubuntu 12.04, grub menu wont show

  Today i downloaded the ubunto 12.04 64bit and installed it on a 115gb partition next to a 15 gb swap alongside windows 7. (I have 2 drives. One with only windows (500gb) and another with a partition for (250gb) windows and (115gb) the ubunto and (15gb) swap partitions.) But after the installation i can't find out how to run ubuntu. It just run windows. I read that it should show a grub menu. i tried: Holding both shift keys at boot up. Running the cd-ubundu and edit the grub file. Also pressing the esc and some funtion button during boot. Nothing seems to work.

  I've tried to install ubuntu 12.04 LTS parallel with Windows 8, on my laptop Clevo m767yu But when I try to boot from USB it just stops when it's trying to read the files. it stops and shows this picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/np3ptvvmasv7ax2/IMAG0097.jpg If I try to boot from a cd, it stops and shows a cursor blinking.   If I try to shutdown my computer it simply takes me back to the login-screen. I looked around and found : Type in terminal: 1. sudo gedit /etc/default/grub 2. Find the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" 3. Change this to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force" 4. Save the file and close the file. 5. • Starting airplay from command line, to send output of 'Say' Mac OS X command to airplay

  Ok, Sunday question :) Trying to make a little joke... 1) if you open a terminal, and type "say -a ?", Mac OS X will give you the list of devices it can send spoken words to. On mine, it says: 39 AirPlay 47 Built-in Output 2) I have a Denon airplay-ready received in my living room and I'm trying to send spoken words to my wife downstairs... I can send music without any problem using iTunes so, from an infrastructure standpoint, I'm all set. 3) I want my computer to say (out of the blue) "Honey, why don't you bring me a cup of coffee". I can make it say that locally on my internal laptop speakers, but I can't seem to send that to device 39 successfully. I am suspecting that there are a few other things that need to be setup before it works, i.e. setting up airplay output to "denon", maybe opening a channel and reserving it. I don't know. Has anyone played with this? Is there a way to setup airplay from the command line? That would be awesome :)

• Intel site says VT-x is supported on my CPU, but tests say otherwise

  I have a laptop with an Intel 2nd Gen. i7-2729QM (http://ark.intel.com/products/50067/) and the Intel site says that it supports VT-x, but I've downloaded the Intel Processor Identification Utility (http://www.intel.com/support/processors/tools/piu/sb/CS-014921.htm) and the test says that my CPU does not have VT-x. There is no option in my BIOS that allows me to enable/disable VT-x. I researched my laptop model (SAGER NP8170) and most forums say that it's enabled by default and there's no option in the BIOS. So assuming that's true, what gives? I also downloaded another tool called SecurAble from GRC and it also says that my CPU doesn't support VT-x. VirtualBox also says that my CPU does not support virtualization. My mind is boggled by why it says on the Intel site that my CPU supports VT-x but all other tests show otherwise. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks in advance.

  I have been messing with Open Graph for hours and can't figure out why Facebook still wont let me show an image when I share a link to a new site I just launched. Even sites I built 5 years ago that have no clue of Open Graph show images so I have no idea why this new site wont allow it. I just need to launch this site and every time I post the url in my status update only text appears. I re sized the image to be 200px x 135px but that still doesn't work..   Hi, I heard that nginx is faster and since im on a VPS with low ram i thought id try it out. I got through this tutorial http://www.howtoforge.com/installing-php-5.3-nginx-and-php-fpm-on-ubuntu-debian But I now get the following error: unknown directive "fastcgi_split_path_info" in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default:28 Anyone know what might be causing the problem? I cant find any reference to the problem on Google Also I have heard conflicting things about Nginx vs Apache. Some say use one, some say the other. Im using allsorts such as rewrite rules, proxies etc. Am I setting myself up for a fall by using Nginx? If I go for apache, does anyone know of anyway to tweak it so that it performs better on a low ram VPS? Cheers Ke

• Windows Vista Update Now Wont Boot Up

  My friend just updated her Windows Vista to service pack 1, or tried to. Now it wont boot up. Just black screen, some errors etc. I tried googling it and lots of people had this problem it seems. Anyone find a fix for it? I read somewhere I believe that Microsoft said to delete some files, Nvidia maybe? But I can not find that again, I forgot the exact error code I searched for before. Does anyone know what I am talking about? LOL Thanks guys.
