  • Printer ports missing from network printers, Windows 7 laptops

    Have an odd issue where users take their laptops home and back into the office with network printers that get mapped via a login script but fail to print. After tracking down a user with this problem I found that the print driver had no ports available to it. We've mapped network printers for this site all the time but only since the introduction of the Konica Minolta C220 Bizhub has this issue cropped up. The issue occurs with Windows 7 users and it takes them 2 /3 reboots to have the ports recreated. Should I be looking at the server for this or at the Windows 7 machines?

    had working PCL6 laserjet 4240 driver. needed to downgrade to PCl5, tried but did not get clean install. tried again and it seemed to work (this is 2003 enterprise terminal server SP2) Have over 40 working laserjets (5, 4000, 4100 and 18 of the 4240) After normal nightly reboot the 18 4240 printers were 'gone'. Worked w/Microsoft who said bad HP driver issues - weird since they work on other terminal servers. downloaded latest version, etc. from HP site and can NOT get to work. As soon as I install, then do a Net Stop Spool and Net Start Spooler the printer is 'gone'. Current workaround is to use HP 4000 PCL5 drivers for all of these 4240 printers.

  • Migrating Printers from XP to 7 (using USMT 4.0)

    I'm attempting to migrate a user from an XP machine to a 7 machine, using USMT 4.0 (User State Migration Tool, from Microsoft). For some reason the migration of printers isn't working, and none of the topics at Microsoft's TechNet are helping me out. Apparently it's a bug, but there's gotta be some workaround. Thank you!

  • Some printers are merged into control panel on Windows 7

    I install the same printer several times to allow easy selection for users. They just choose the desired printer to have the corresponding functionnality (instead of going to printer properties and change them back and forth): one with double-sided printing, one for draft quality, one for upper tray, etc. On Windows 7, when I install a printer several times, the control panel's printers icons are merged. I then have only one icon for two or three identical printers. I can right-clic on the icon to display the usual menu, and some items of the menu have an arrow to access each printer. This is very missleading for users and admins. I have this behaviour on some computers, when others don't exhibit this. I didn't found what is the difference between computers with and without the problem. Anyone know how to prevent this ?

  • Allowing XP Home Clients To Access Active Directory Printers

    My school's network is based on Active Directory on Windows Server 2003 servers. Most of the computers in the school are members of the domain. However, we also acquired a passel of netbooks that are running Windows XP Home (as netbooks tend to), and we're trying to make those useful. The netbooks are made available to students by check-out, so none of them are dedicated to a specific user. I only want to allow the netbooks to do two significant network activities: to access the Internet (this is working acceptably well so far), and to print to one or more printers on the network. That second one is where trouble starts. I'm trying to find a way to allow the XP Home clients to access those Active Directory printers. All the solutions that I can come up with right now are expensive, ugly, or both - for example, changing the OS on the netbooks (even with imaging, that would take a lot of my time) or making sure that the user account on each netbook has a matching account in Active Directory with permissions for printing (invites security/maintainability disaster). Are there any elegant solutions? Failing that, what's the best ugly solution for allowing my students to print from the netbooks?

  • Printing from Firefox on different printers and setting the page details beforehand

    I´ve got an odd problem and I have not been able to fix this. I have a computer which is connected to two printers. One is a receipt printer (EPSON TM-U220), and the other one is an impact printer (Epson LX-300+). From Firefox, I need to print on both printers at different moments. So first I print on the receipt printer, then on the impact printer, etc. However, whenever I first print on the receipt printer, and then go back to the impact printer, the printout is only the width of the page of the receipt printer. That is, the page does not come out properly, just the left part of the page is used for printing and the right part is completely empty, as if I am just printing on the small receipt paper. And there is no way I can tell Firefox that I am printing on this larger printer. The second print on the impact printer goes fine. Firefox now knows it is printing on the impact printer, and it comes out properly on the full page width. But every first print on the impact printer is using the wrong paper size. How can I fix this? When I go to PAGE PREVIEW I can not set the printer UNTIL I actually print the page. If I go to PRINT PREVIEW CONFIGURE PAGE, I can not set the printer I will be using. I can only do so if I go to PRINT PREVIEW PRINT (here is the dropdown box to set the printer). But I can only set the printer and then click PRINT, or CANCEL. If I click PRINT, then the computer remembers the setting but that page will come our wrong, and when I click cancel it simply does not remember the printer I just set.

    My issue: When an order is processed, the same document needs to be printed on two printers. My proposed solution: Create a single queue in CUPS with a backend script that spits the job out to the two real printers queues. My problem: Documentation. Maybe I'm looking at every ring around the bullseye, but I can't find anything that lays out the rules for writing a CUPS backend script. In the end, I have several questions: Is there already an option to do this in CUPS that I've missed? The line I use to add my queue is "lpadmin -p MultiPass -E -v multipass -P Generic PostScript Printer". But DeviceURI is bad unless I specify a directory like "-v multipass:/tmp". Why is this? For testing, my script does nothing but capture ARGV and write it out to a text file one line per argument. Problem is, I'm getting nothing. Logs show the job as successful, but I'm pretty sure my meager attempt at a backend isn't even being run. I've tried to keep this question brief, so please ask for more info as I'm sure I've left out the most important part in all this. Honestly, I'm just done chasing my own tail.     I want to be able to get and set the default printer for users within Windows Terminal Services, but I don't see any relevant functions. (The closest I've seen is RDS User Config, but it doesn't appear to do what I need.) It can be done by name or by ID (however necessary). For example, something like this pseudocode: For each user, u: p = u.GetDefaultPrinter() if p.name=='Inkjet' then: p2 = GetPrinterByName('Laser') u.SetDefaultPrinter( p2 )

  • Printer features don't work when printing to Canon Printers ir5185 and ir7095 in Snow Leopard

    Recently updated to iMac running Snow Leopard. Connected Canon printers ir7095 and ir5185 via ethernet and downloaded latest drivers from Canon website. Can print to both from InDesign CS3, however, when I select printer features such as heavy paper and printing to stack bypass, it prints but just defaults to plain paper in drawer 1. Also, when printing to ir7095, 0001 prints five times on sheet in background. Is there any way to get the printer features that are available to work?

  • How to add HP 64 bit printers for printers that use universal printer driver to server 2003

    We have quite a few hp printers and I noticed now they all use the HP Universal printer driver which I added to the printer server (2003 serveR) but when someone on win7 64 bit tries to install the printer they still get an error that says no driver was found on the server for this printer. I don't have any problems with our canon's and Dells but they supply a driver for each model unlike hp who is going to this universal driver route which frankly I don't like. any ideas? thanks. Luc

    Has anyone got a good list of the costs of running colour laser printers, both for colour and black that take into account different usage volumes. E.g if the dram needs replacing after 20,000 pages, but I am only do 10,000 in the next 3 years, I don’t care about the cost of a new dram. So a simple “cost per page” figure is each printer is not good enough to be useful in real life. (A spread sheet / website that I could type my own usage values into would be great.)

  • hidden row causing issue with tablesorter zebra striping

    Sorry if this has already been solved elsewhere but my searches have been able to turn up nothing and my attempts at solving the issue myself have made even less progress. :P Put quite simply I have a table that is using the jquery tablesorter and it's zebra widget. In this table there is a hidden column. I've so far been able to make it so that when a tr contains specific text (I was aiming for * but was seemingly unable to get \* to work for whatever reason...and I suspect my selector is perhaps not specific enough) the containing row is set not to display by ".hide()". The problem I am having though is when the row is hidden, tablesorter does exactly what it should do and stripes all the rows their specific colours based on their odd and even values. Of course .remove doesn't do the trick either as the table still sees some funny striping. Any thoughts on how to make it so that when a row is hidden, the striping compensates?

I converted the following string to Bytes and passed into the printer. ^XA ^FO3,3^AD^FDZEBRA^FS ^XZ The expected outcome was that the printer was supposed to print 'ZEBRA' but it didn't.     I have installed the final RTM version of Windows 7 professional 64 bit on a test system before we begin the roll out in our company. I'm having problems connecting to several HP printers that we have on the network. These printers are being shared from a Windows 2003 server host. I have downloaded the lastest HP Universal Printer dirver, however I'm unable to add the 64 bit driver onto the 2003 server system (it's 32 bit). Does anyone have any advice on how I can get connected to these printers from the Windows 7 system?

  • Reading status from Zebra Printer

    Hi, I'm working on a project where we need to use a Zebra Printer for barcode labels. We're using C#, and we're doing OK on the printing side of things, sending raw ZPL strings to the printer (using winspool.drv). However, we also need to read from the printer, and no luck there. We need to get the status from the printer, which is the output to the ZPL command "~HS", so we can tell how many labels are in memory waiting to be printed. The EnumJobs() from winspool.drv only has jobs on the windows spool, and once they're sent to the printer, they're gone from that list. But that doesn't mean the label has been printed, since the printer has a peel sensor and only prints one label at a time, and we're obviously interested in sending batches of labels to the printer. I've tried something like (using the winspool.drv calls): OpenPrinter(szPrinterName, out hPrinter, IntPtr.Zero); WritePrinter(hPrinter, pBytes, dwCount, out dwWritten); // send the string "~HS" ReadPrinter(hPrinter, data, buff, out pcRead); But I get nothing on the ReadPrinter call. I don't even know if this is the right way of going at it. Anyone out there tackled this before? Thanks.

    I want to zebra stripe only select tables using. I do not want to use jQuery for this. tbody tr:nth-child(even) td, tbody tr.even td {background:#e5ecf9;} When I put that in a css file it affects all tables on all pages that call the same stylesheet. What I would like to do is selectively apply it to specific tables. I have tried this, but it doesn't work. // in stylesheet .zebra_stripe{ tbody tr:nth-child(even) td, tbody tr.even td {background:#e5ecf9;} } // in html <table class="zebra_even"> <colgroup> <col class="width_10em" /> <col class="width_15em" /> </colgroup> <tr> <td>Odd row nice and clear.</td> <td>Some Stuff</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Even row nice and clear but it should be shaded.</td> <td>Some Stuff</td> </tr> </table> And this: <table> <colgroup> <col class="width_10em" /> <col class="width_15em" /> </colgroup> <tbody class="zebra_even"> The stylesheet works as it is properly formatting other elements of the html.   • Windows 2008 Terminal Services "Easy Print" and Matrix Printers

    Server: Windows 2008 Server Standard SP2 with "Terminal Services" role Clients: Windows XP SP3 + .NET 3.5 Framework SP1 + Remote Desktop Client 7.0 We are using "Easy Print" feature which allows programs running on server to "see" printers installed on client machines. Everything works fine, EXCEPT when we send a text-only output to a dot-matrix printer. In this case, the printer only outputs a blank page. At first, we had problems with the error "Windows Presentation Foundation Terminal Server Print W has encountered a problem and needs to close." but this was fixed by replacing TsWpfWrp.exe with the one from Vista SP1 as suggested here. But now, we only get a blank page! Every other (graphical) document we sent to printer works 100%. We also tried to use the "Generic text-only" driver, but the result is same. Now we are trying to change parameters like print processor on "advanced" tab from printer driver to see if something happen. But this is just guessing and we really don't know what to try anymore. The problem appears to be on Easy Print driver, but we found almost no resources about it. Any tips are welcome.

  • Print over remote CUPS server, but just show a subset of the printers.

    I'd like to print from my Ubuntu laptop (karmic) to some networked printers. Our organisation uses a CUPS server with several hundred printers. What I know I can do is: CUPS_SERVER=printers.company.com acroread document.pdf and then Adobe Reader shows me all available printers to select from. However, it takes a couple of minutes to display the large list, which is really annoying. (The desktop PCs here suffer from this, too.) The other option is to add a new printer with an address like ipp://printers.company.com/printer/bldg1_hp8150 (to the Ubuntu printer configuration = local CUPS server). However, it asks me for a driver. I don't want to / can't always specify a driver, since some printers don't appear in the list. I'd like to let the remote CUPS server handle the driver part (like it does when i set CUPS_SERVER), and do no more preprocessing/"driver stuff" on my side. The ideal thing would be if I could somehow add the remote printer list to my local cups server, and apply a filter, so that it would just display printers a la bldg1_*. This feature was available in KDE3.?, but I can't find something similar in Ubuntu/Gnome. Any suggestions?

  • Windows shared printers: Process job on server machine, not the client

    Hi. While working with Linux clients to Windows SMB/CIFS filesharing servers, from time to time I find myself having to print to a printer with no drivers available under Linux. For some reason, the Windows computer expects the job to be sent in an already processed format, so it can be fed directly to the printer in its own, weird language. It would be great if I could send the print job in Postscript or other standard format to the Windows computer sharing this printer, and then this PS could be processed under Windows. Is there a way to accomplish this? Because I don't seem to find the option. Thanks a lot.
