• wayfinder, paginator, or breadcrumb?

  My question is fairly simple. I've heard one or two people call it a "wayfinder" and I personally call it "breadcrumb", then again "paginator" can also fit the bill. Bottom line is I can't seem to find what I need because I am not coming up with the right term. What I want is the following: I have a site with a multiple-pages form. I want my users to see the steps through the form. I searched for all three terms and nothing I can use has shown. I could build one from scratch but I am interested in what is out there. Someone may have done a better job than I will be doing. Any idea on what to call this and if you have a link I can check out, that will be bonus Thanks

• I was going to get an iPhone, BUT ..

  My cell phone contract expires in a couple weeks and I was all set to buy an iPhone. The iPhone had started to take off when I got my current phone / contract but at that the time Microsoft paid for a significant portion of my phone bill so staying with a Windows powered phone was appropriate (I like to be a good team player.)  Budget tightening as changed the expense policy and now Microsofts contribution to my cell phone expenses is limited to $35. • oDesk agency for subcontracting

  My question has to do with whether to create an oDesk agency (I've searched to verify that oDesk questions are appropriate). I have a project for which I was hired, and the client has given me authorization to subcontract a few hours of UI/UX expertise. I don't want to make the client hire the UI/UX guy directly; however, if I hire someone with my company account and then bill the client for the time, oDesk is taking 19% off the top (10% twice). I've checked their FAQ and filed a support ticket several days ago, but nobody has replied. If there's anyone who has had experience with oDesk agencies, do you think it can be handled this way? In other words, can I be the developer in my own agency while also having a UX person on the team?

  I'm currently building a code generator, which aim to generate boiler plate for me once i wrote the templates and/or translations, whatever the language i have to work with, and it has an educationnal part :p. So i have a problem with a regex in ruby. The regex aim to select whatever is between {{{ and }}}, so i can generae functions according to my needs. My regex is currently : /\{\{\{(([a-zA-Z]|\s)+)\}\}\}/m My test data set {{{Demande aaa}}} = {{{tagadatsouintsouin tutu}}} The results are : [["Demande aaa", "a"], ["tagadatsouintsouin tutu", "u"]] So the regex pick each time the last character twice. But, that's not exactly what i want, my need is more about this : /\{\{\{((\w|\W)+)\}\}\}/m But this as a flaw too, the results : [["Demande aaa}}} = {{{tagadatsouintsouin tutu", "u"]] Whereas, i wish to get [["Demande aaa"],["tagadatsouintsouin tutu"]] Any ideas to correct theses regex ? I could use 2 sets of delimiters, but it won't learn me anything.

  Do we have to explicitly manage database resources when using Spring Framework.. liking closing all open connections etc? I have read that Spring relieves developer from such boiler plate coding... This is to answer an error that I am getting in a Spring web app: org.springframework.jdbc.CannotGetJdbcConnectionException: Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (150) exceeded The jdbcTemplate is configured in the xml file and the DAO implementation has reference to this jdbcTemplate bean which is used to query the database.

• Code coverage in Win32 app

  We are just about to start a new project. The Proof of Concept (PoC) for this project was done simply using Win32. The plan is/was to flesh out the PoC, tidy the uglier parts and meet the requirements set by the project owners. One of the requirements for the actual project is 100% code coverage but I can see problems ahead: How can I acheive 100% code coverage with Win32 - the message pump will be exceptionally difficult to test effectively?! I could compile to a DLL but won't there be code in the main app that won't be under coverage? I am thinking of dropping the Win32 code and moving to MFC - at least then a lot of the boiler plate stuff will be hidden from view (and therefore coverage). Any thoughts on the problem?

• Generalized plugable caching pattern?

  Given that it's one of the hard things in computer science, does anyone know of a way to set up a plugable caching strategy? What I'm thinking of would allow me to write a program with minimal thought as to what needs to be cached (e.i. use some sort of boiler-plate, low/no cost pattern that compiles away to nothing anywhere I might want caching) and then when things are further along and I know where I need caching I can add it in without making invasive code changes. As an idea to the kind of solution I'm looking for; I'm working with the D programing language (but halfway sane C++ would be fine) and I like template.

• [WPF] Drag and drop between 2 popups

  Our application is a WPF (4.0) AppBar docked to the top of the desktop. Various buttons in the AppBar produce Popups containing various data (in ListBoxes). I am trying to implement drag and drop of items between 2 Popups. It's pretty standard boiler plate stuff using Josh Smith's draggable ListBox that I've used half a dozen times before. Drag is initiating correctly, but the target Popup is not receiving the DragOver or Drop. Is this a focus issue? Or is there something else at work here?

• iPhone speech recognition API?

  The new iPhone 3GS has support for voice commands, stuff like "call Bill" or "play music by the strokes" and whatnot. I was looking through the iPhone SDK, but I cannot find any references to this capability. All of the search keywords I choose seem to only find the new voice chat functionality. Does anyone know whether Apple has added voice command APIs to the SDK, or whether it's yet another forbidden API? If it does exist, could someone point a particular class out to me?

"A distributed system consists of multiple autonomous computers that communicate through a computer network." Wikipedia The application is focused on distributing highly cpu intensive operations (as opposed to data intensive) so I'm sure MapReduce solutions don't fit the bill. Any framework that you can recommend ( + give a brief summary of any experience or comparison to other frameworks ) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  I have a CSV dump from another DB that looks like this (id, name, notes): 1001,John Smith,15 Main Street 1002,Jane Smith,"2010 Rockliffe Dr. Pleasantville, IL USA" 1003,Bill Karr,2820 West Ave. The last field may contain carriage returns and commas, in which case it is surrounded by double quotes. I use this code to import CSV into my table: BULK INSERT CSVTest FROM 'c:\csvfile.csv' WITH ( FIELDTERMINATOR = ',', ROWTERMINATOR = '\n' ) SQL Server 2005 bulk insert cannot figure out that carriage returns inside quotes are not row terminators. How to overcome?

However, I bump into problem when, in my app, I want to display search result with empty search string but selected scope button. • Can you find a pattern to sync files knowing only dates and filenames?

  Imagine if you will a operating system that had the following methods for files Create File: Creates (writes) a new file to disk. Calling this if a file exists causes a fault. Update File: Updates an existing file. Call this if a file doesn't exist causes a fault. Read File: Reads data from a file. Enumerate files: Gets all files in a folder. Files themselves in this operating system only have the following meta data: Created Time: The original date and time the file was created, by the Create File method. Modified Time: The date and time the file was last modified by the Update File method. If the file has never been modified, this will equal the Create Time. You have been given the task of writing an application which will sync the files between two directories (lets call them bill and ted) on a machine. However it is not that simple, the client has required that The application never faults (see methods above). That while the application is running the users can add and update files and those will be sync'd next time the application runs. Files can be added to either the ted or bill directories. File names cannot be altered. The application will perform one sync per time it is run. The application must be almost entirely in memory, in other words you cannot create a log of filenames and write that to disk and then check that the next time. The exception to point 6 is that you can store date and times between runs. Each date/time is associated with a key labeled A through J (so you have 10 to use) so you can compare keys between runs. There is no way to catch exceptions in the application. Answer will be accepted based on the following conditions: First answer to meet all requirements will be accepted. If there is no way to meet all requirements, the answer which ensures the smallest amount of missed changes per sync will be accepted. A bounty will be created (100 points) as soon as possible for the prize. The winner will be selected one day before the bounty ends. • Drupal module to retry failed emails

  I'm trying to find an existing Drupal module to fit the bill: basically, when an email fails to send, it should save the email and automatically attempt to resend the email later. I'm using the SMTP module to relay emails through an SMTP gateway (required by the hosting provider), but every once in a while the connection is refused - probably due to the gateway being too busy.
