  • Reclaim Vertical UI Space by Moving Your Tabs to the Side in Firefox

    - by Asian Angel
Are you looking for a way to move your tabs to the side in Firefox and gain access to more vertical UI space? The Vertical Tabs extension for Firefox lets you accomplish both in a matter of moments. As soon as you install the extension and restart Firefox the Tab Bar will be automatically converted into a shiny new Vertical Tabs Sidebar. All that you have to do is start enjoying the extra vertical UI space. Some things to keep in mind when using the extension are: You can easily adjust the width of the sidebar to suit your needs using the mouse (very nice!) The Firefox Menu Button, Panorama Button, and Tab Control controls move to the bottom of the sidebar (see screenshot above) You can group tabs if needed or desired There is no option available to move the sidebar to the right side of the browser at the moment The use of Personas themes (or other themes) may affect how the text for the tabs will look (i.e. a slightly fuzzy shadow effect when not selected as seen in the screenshot above) Note: Works with Firefox 4.0b7 – 4.0.* Install the Vertical Tabs Extension [Mozilla Add-ons] Latest Features How-To Geek ETC Should You Delete Windows 7 Service Pack Backup Files to Save Space? • Html 5 ping pong game side collision problem

    - by Gurjit
I am making a simple ping pong game where I am facing a side collision problem means when the ball collides with the either side of the paddle . Although I have written code for making it works but something is failing....I want plz someone to give suggestions and tell how to avoid it. Means while trying to hit the ball with side face of the paddle poses a problem.!! Here is the main part of the code causing problem function checkCollision(){ ///// This is collision detection for the upper part ///// if( cy + radius >= paddleTop && cx + radius > paddleLeft && cy + radius >= paddleTop + 5 && cx - radius <= paddleLeft + paddleWidth ) { dy = -dy; ++hits; /// On collision we are increasing the Score playSound(); } else if( cy + radius >= paddleTop && cy + radius <= paddleTop + paddleHeight && cx + radius >= paddleLeft && cy - radius <= paddleLeft - (radius + 1) ) { dx = -dx; } } here is working fiddle for it :- http://jsfiddle.net/gurjitmehta/orzpzf69/

  • Nginx and client certificates from hierarchical OpenSSL-based certification authorities

    - by Fmy Oen
I'm trying to set up root certification authority, subordinate certification authority and to generate the client certificates signed by any of this CA that nginx 0.7.67 on Debian Squeeze will accept. My problem is that root CA signed client certificate works fine while subordinate CA signed one results in "400 Bad Request. The SSL certificate error". Step 1: nginx virtual host configuration: server { server_name test.local; access_log /var/log/nginx/test.access.log; listen 443 default ssl; keepalive_timeout 70; ssl_protocols SSLv3 TLSv1; ssl_ciphers AES128-SHA:AES256-SHA:RC4-SHA:DES-CBC3-SHA:RC4-MD5; ssl_certificate /etc/nginx/ssl/server.crt; ssl_certificate_key /etc/nginx/ssl/server.key; ssl_client_certificate /etc/nginx/ssl/client.pem; ssl_verify_client on; ssl_session_cache shared:SSL:10m; ssl_session_timeout 5m; location / { proxy_pass http://testsite.local/; } } Step 2: PKI infrastructure organization for both root and subordinate CA (based on this article): # mkdir ~/pki && cd ~/pki # mkdir rootCA subCA # cp -v /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf rootCA/ # cd rootCA/ # mkdir certs private crl newcerts; touch serial; echo 01 > serial; touch index.txt; touch crlnumber; echo 01 > crlnumber # cp -Rvp * ../subCA/ Almost no changes was made to rootCA/openssl.cnf: [ CA_default ] dir = . # Where everything is kept ... certificate = $dir/certs/rootca.crt # The CA certificate ... private_key = $dir/private/rootca.key # The private key and to subCA/openssl.cnf: [ CA_default ] dir = . # Where everything is kept ... certificate = $dir/certs/subca.crt # The CA certificate ... private_key = $dir/private/subca.key # The private key Step 3: Self-signed root CA certificate generation: # openssl genrsa -out ./private/rootca.key -des3 2048 # openssl req -x509 -new -key ./private/rootca.key -out certs/rootca.crt -config openssl.cnf Enter pass phrase for ./private/rootca.key: You are about to be asked to enter information that will be incorporated into your certificate request. • When trying to copy a virtual disk in VMware vSphere client, I get an errror.

    - by Zak
I'm pretty new to all the VMware world, so this is probably mainly a question about the right set of documentation to look at. I'm trying to clone/copy a VM that I installed on an ESXi installation. I was trying to follow along with the top example here: http://serverfault.com/questions/16320/is-there-a-way-to-clone-an-existing-vm-on-an-esxi-server-without-having-to-re-imp However, I'm using the vSphere client to connect to the ESXi box and manage it, and the vSphere client is telling me it won't let me rename the vmdk file. The real answer I want is how do I clone the VM I installed if I want to spin up 5 copies. Is there another utility I can use to copy the vmdk file, then create a new virtual machine using it? Any idea why they nerfed the feature in vSphere client?

  • How to use Client for NFS on Windows Vista?

    - by netvope
I've installed "Client for NFS" on my 32-bit Windows Vista Ultimate. However, I can't find it in the start menu, and can't find any documentation on how to use it. How do I connect to a NFS share using "Client for NFS"? Can I map it to a drive letter? How do I choose connection options, such as my uid/gid, mount as read-only, port number, etc? Ideally I would like to map a NFS share using the command line. You may also suggest alternatives to "Client for NFS".

  • Need an FTP Client to run on a server and allow scheduling and not need a login to run

    - by William Todd Salzman
I am looking at FTP clients to transfer from an external FTP Server. I need to place this FTP client on a server in the DMZ that will not be routinely logged in, so the client needs to run as a service or something like that? I need the client to be able to retrieve files from the server on a schedule (Tuesday Mornings) and drop them in a local directory for pickup by another process. I would also like the solution to be capable of performing sftp transfers. Most marketing material is geared towards the person who will be running this on their desktop, not on a server, so several of my points are never in the product specs. update DMZ can run either Windows versions or Linux versions * end update *

  • How to store an object in Riak with the Java client?

    - by Jonas
    I have setup Riak on a Ubuntu machine, and it seam to work if I do riak ping. Now I would like to use the Riak Java client to store an object, but it doesn't work. I get com.basho.riak.client.response.RiakIORuntimeException when I try to store an object. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to test if I can access riak from my java client? Do I have to create a Bucket first? how? import com.basho.riak.client.RiakClient; import com.basho.riak.client.RiakObject; import com.basho.riak.client.response.FetchResponse; public class RiakTest { public static void main(String[] args) { // connect RiakClient riak = new RiakClient("http://192.168.1.107:8098/riak"); // create object RiakObject o = new RiakObject("mybucket", "mykey", "myvalue"); // store riak.store(o); } }

  • Is MVC 2 client-side validation broken in Visual Studio 2010 RC?

    - by Will
I can't seem to get client side validation working with the version of MVC released with Visual Studio 2010 RC. I've tried it with two projects -- one upgrade from 1.0, and one using the template that came with VS. I'd think the template version would work, but it doesn't. Added the following scripts: <script type="text/javascript" src="<%= Url.Content("~/Scripts/MicrosoftMvcValidation.js") %>"> </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="<%= Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.js")%>"> </script> which are downloaded to the client correctly. Added the following to my form page: <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> <%--yes, am aware of the EndForm() bug! --%> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %> <%--snip --%> and I can see the client validation scripts have been added to the bottom of the form. But still client validation never happens. What is worse is that in my upgraded project, the client validation scripts are never output in the page! PLEASE NOTE: I am specifically asking about the version of MVC2 that came with VS2010 RC. Also, I do know how to google; please don't waste anybody's time searching and answering if you aren't familiar with this issue in the release candidate of Visual Studio. Thanks.

  • Would javascript and similar scripting languages benefit from being strongly typed?

    - by cwap
Just had my mind going today. I spent some time in IE debug mode, browsing the web as usual, and oh boy do I see many errors :) Most of these errors are because some value are of a different type than expected (at least as far as I interpret the error messages). What are the reasons JavaScript and similar scripting languages aren't strongly typed? Is it just to make the languages "easier" to understand and more accessable, or is the lack of a "compile-time" the real problem?

  • Which TextEditor is easiest to customize for a new scripting language?

    - by Simone Margaritelli
It's been more than an year that i'm developing a new scripting language with its own grammar rules and constructs. I'd like to give the users of this language some minimalistic ide to work with, but i don't want/have time to make one from scratch so i'd like to take one already existing (it has to run on Linux platforms natively, so no windows-only editors plz) and customize it. Well, which one is the easiest to customize without changing the source code and recompiling it, maybe even with plugin support? Thank you.

  • Wrapping ASP.NET Client Callbacks

    - by Ricardo Peres
Client Callbacks are probably the less known (and I dare say, less loved) of all the AJAX options in ASP.NET, which also include the UpdatePanel, Page Methods and Web Services. The reason for that, I believe, is it’s relative complexity: Get a reference to a JavaScript function; Dynamically register function that calls the above reference; Have a JavaScript handler call the registered function. However, it has some the nice advantage of being self-contained, that is, doesn’t need additional files, such as web services, JavaScript libraries, etc, or static methods declared on a page, or any kind of attributes. So, here’s what I want to do: Have a DOM element which exposes a method that is executed server side, passing it a string and returning a string; Have a server-side event that handles the client-side call; Have two client-side user-supplied callback functions for handling the success and error results. I’m going to develop a custom control without user interface that does the registration of the client JavaScript method as well as a server-side event that can be hooked by some handler on a page. My markup will look like this: 1: <script type="text/javascript"> 1:  2:  3: function onCallbackSuccess(result, context) 4: { 5: } 6:  7: function onCallbackError(error, context) 8: { 9: } 10:  </script> 2: <my:CallbackControl runat="server" ID="callback" SendAllData="true" OnCallback="OnCallback"/> The control itself looks like this: 1: public class CallbackControl : Control, ICallbackEventHandler 2: { 3: #region Public constructor 4: public CallbackControl() 5: { 6: this.SendAllData = false; 7: this.Async = true; 8: } 9: #endregion 10:  11: #region Public properties and events 12: public event EventHandler<CallbackEventArgs> Callback; 13:  14: [DefaultValue(true)] 15: public Boolean Async 16: { 17: get; 18: set; 19: } 20:  21: [DefaultValue(false)] 22: public Boolean SendAllData 23: { 24: get; 25: set; 26: } 27:  28: #endregion 29:  30: #region Protected override methods 31:  32: protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) 33: { 34: writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Id, this.ClientID); 35: writer.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.Span); 36:  37: base.Render(writer); 38:  39: writer.RenderEndTag(); 40: } 41:  42: protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) 43: { 44: String reference = this.Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference(this, "arg", "onCallbackSuccess", "context", "onCallbackError", this.Async); 45: String script = String.Concat("\ndocument.getElementById('", this.ClientID, "').callback = function(arg, context, onCallbackSuccess, onCallbackError){", ((this.SendAllData == true) ? "__theFormPostCollection.length = 0; __theFormPostData = ''; WebForm_InitCallback(); " : String.Empty), reference, ";};\n"); 46:  47: this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), String.Concat("callback", this.ClientID), script, true); 48:  49: base.OnInit(e); 50: } 51:  52: #endregion 53:  54: #region Protected virtual methods 55: protected virtual void OnCallback(CallbackEventArgs args) 56: { 57: EventHandler<CallbackEventArgs> handler = this.Callback; 58:  59: if (handler != null) 60: { 61: handler(this, args); 62: } 63: } 64:  65: #endregion 66:  67: #region ICallbackEventHandler Members 68:  69: String ICallbackEventHandler.GetCallbackResult() 70: { 71: CallbackEventArgs args = new CallbackEventArgs(this.Context.Items["Data"] as String); 72:  73: this.OnCallback(args); 74:  75: return (args.Result); 76: } 77:  78: void ICallbackEventHandler.RaiseCallbackEvent(String eventArgument) 79: { 80: this.Context.Items["Data"] = eventArgument; 81: } 82:  83: #endregion 84: } And the event argument class: 1: [Serializable] 2: public class CallbackEventArgs : EventArgs 3: { 4: public CallbackEventArgs(String argument) 5: { 6: this.Argument = argument; 7: this.Result = String.Empty; 8: } 9:  10: public String Argument 11: { 12: get; 13: private set; 14: } 15:  16: public String Result 17: { 18: get; 19: set; 20: } 21: } You will notice two properties on the CallbackControl: Async: indicates if the call should be made asynchronously or synchronously (the default); SendAllData: indicates if the callback call will include the view and control state of all of the controls on the page, so that, on the server side, they will have their properties set when the Callback event is fired. The CallbackEventArgs class exposes two properties: Argument: the read-only argument passed to the client-side function; Result: the result to return to the client-side callback function, set from the Callback event handler. An example of an handler for the Callback event would be: 1: protected void OnCallback(Object sender, CallbackEventArgs e) 2: { 3: e.Result = String.Join(String.Empty, e.Argument.Reverse()); 4: } Finally, in order to fire the Callback event from the client, you only need this: 1: <input type="text" id="input"/> 2: <input type="button" value="Get Result" onclick="document.getElementById('callback').callback(callback(document.getElementById('input').value, 'context', onCallbackSuccess, onCallbackError))"/> The syntax of the callback function is: arg: some string argument; context: some context that will be passed to the callback functions (success or failure); callbackSuccessFunction: some function that will be called when the callback succeeds; callbackFailureFunction: some function that will be called if the callback fails for some reason. Give it a try and see if it helps!

  • Discussion of a Distributed Data Storage implementation

    - by fegol
I want to implement a distributed data storage using a client/server architecture. Each data item will be stored persistently in disk in one of several remote servers. The client uses a library to update and query the data, shielding the client from its actual location. This should allow a client to associate keys (String) to values(byte[]), much as a Map does. The system must ensure that the amount of data stored in each server is approximately the same. The set of servers is known beforehand by other servers and clients. Both the client and the server will be written in Java, using sockets, threads, and files. I open this topic with the objective of discussing the best way to implement this idea, assuming simplicity, what are the issues of this implementation, performance measurements and discussion of the limitations.

  • OpenVPN Client timing out

    - by Austin
I recently installed OpenVPN on my Ubuntu VPS. Whenenver I try to connect to it, I can establish a connection just fine. However, everything I try to connect to times out. If I try to ping something, it will resolve the IP, but will time out after resolving the IP. (So DNS Server seems to be working correctly) My server.conf has this relevant information (At least I think it's relevant. I'm not sure if you need more or not) # Which local IP address should OpenVPN # listen on? (optional) ;local a.b.c.d # Which TCP/UDP port should OpenVPN listen on? # If you want to run multiple OpenVPN instances # on the same machine, use a different port # number for each one. You will need to # open up this port on your firewall. port 1194 # TCP or UDP server? ;proto tcp proto udp # "dev tun" will create a routed IP tunnel, # "dev tap" will create an ethernet tunnel. # Use "dev tap0" if you are ethernet bridging # and have precreated a tap0 virtual interface # and bridged it with your ethernet interface. # If you want to control access policies # over the VPN, you must create firewall # rules for the the TUN/TAP interface. # On non-Windows systems, you can give # an explicit unit number, such as tun0. # On Windows, use "dev-node" for this. # On most systems, the VPN will not function # unless you partially or fully disable # the firewall for the TUN/TAP interface. ;dev tap dev tun # Windows needs the TAP-Win32 adapter name # from the Network Connections panel if you # have more than one. • Python soap using soaplib (server) and suds (client)

    - by Celso Axelrud
This question is related to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1751027/python-soap-server-client In the case of soap with python, there are recommendation to use soaplib (http://wiki.github.com/jkp/soaplib) as soap server and suds (https://fedorahosted.org/suds/) as soap client. My target is to create soap services in python that can be consumed by several clients (java, etc). I tried the HelloWorld example from soaplib (http://trac.optio.webfactional.com/wiki/HelloWorld). It works well when the client is also using soaplib. Then, I tried to use suds as client consuming the HelloWorld services and it fail. -Why this is happening? Does soaplib server has problems to consumed by different clients? Here the code for the server: from soaplib.wsgi_soap import SimpleWSGISoapApp from soaplib.service import soapmethod from soaplib.serializers.primitive import String, Integer, Arraycode class HelloWorldService(SimpleWSGISoapApp): @soapmethod(String,Integer,_returns=Array(String)) def say_hello(self,name,times): results = [] for i in range(0,times): results.append('Hello, %s'%name) return results if __name__=='__main__': from cherrypy.wsgiserver import CherryPyWSGIServer #from cherrypy._cpwsgiserver import CherryPyWSGIServer # this example uses CherryPy2.2, use cherrypy.wsgiserver.CherryPyWSGIServer for CherryPy 3.0 server = CherryPyWSGIServer(('localhost',7789),HelloWorldService()) server.start() This is the soaplib client: from soaplib.client import make_service_client from SoapServerTest_1 import HelloWorldService client = make_service_client('http://localhost:7789/',HelloWorldService()) print client.say_hello("Dave",5) Results: >>> ['Hello, Dave', 'Hello, Dave', 'Hello, Dave', 'Hello, Dave', 'Hello, Dave'] This is the suds client: from suds.client import Client url = 'http://localhost:7789/HelloWordService?wsdl' client1 = Client(url) client1.service.say_hello("Dave",5) Results: >>> Unhandled exception while debugging... • Is there a client for Google Talk, for Mac, that allows phone calls?

    - by xtraorange
I'm having no luck finding a client for Google Talk that is both for Mac (OSX) and that allows phone calls (not just chatting with other Google Talk users). If I leave the browser page open to gmail, it will ring when I receive a call to my Google Voice number, and I can call out from my Google Voice number, but I don't want to use the browser. Is there any sort of client, for Mac, that will allow calls through Google Talk?

  • What is the difference between the Client and GTK versions of emacs?

    - by David
My Ubuntu 10.04 desktop has three versions of emacs: emacs-snapshot (client) emacs-snapshot (GTK) GNU Emacs 23 I mostly use emacs-snapshot, but I also use regular emacs in terminal mode emacs -nw. However, it is not clear to me what the difference is between the client and GTK versions of emacs-snapshot is, which one is launched by emacs-snapshot at the terminal, and if I should uninstall one or just ignore it.

  • WIF, ADFS 2 and WCF&ndash;Part 4: Service Client (using Service Metadata)

    - by Your DisplayName here!
See parts 1, 2 and 3 first. In this part we will finally build a client for our federated service. There are basically two ways to accomplish this. You can use the WCF built-in tooling to generate client and configuration via the service metadata (aka ‘Add Service Reference’). This requires no WIF on the client side. Another approach would be to use WIF’s WSTrustChannelFactory to manually talk to the ADFS 2 WS-Trust endpoints. This option gives you more flexibility, but is slightly more code to write. You also need WIF on the client which implies that you need to run on a WIF supported operating system – this rules out e.g. Windows XP clients. We’ll start with the metadata way. You simply create a new client project (e.g. a console app) – call ‘Add Service Reference’ and point the dialog to your service endpoint. What will happen then is, that VS will contact your service and read its metadata. Inside there is also a link to the metadata endpoint of ADFS 2. This one will be contacted next to find out which WS-Trust endpoints are available. The end result will be a client side proxy and a configuration file. Let’s first write some code to call the service and then have a closer look at the config file. var proxy = new ServiceClient(); proxy.GetClaims().ForEach(c =>     Console.WriteLine("{0}\n {1}\n  {2} ({3})\n",         c.ClaimType,         c.Value,         c.Issuer,         c.OriginalIssuer)); That’s all. The magic is happening in the configuration file. When you in inspect app.config, you can see the following general configuration hierarchy: <client /> element with service endpoint information federation binding and configuration containing ADFS 2 endpoint 1 (with binding and configuration) ADFS 2 endpoint n (with binding and configuration) (where ADFS 2 endpoint 1…n are the endpoints I talked about in part 1) You will see a number of <issuer /> elements in the binding configuration where simply the first endpoint from the ADFS 2 metadata becomes the default endpoint and all other endpoints and their configuration are commented out. You now need to find the endpoint you want to use (based on trust version, credential type and security mode) and replace that with the default endpoint. That’s it. When you call the WCF proxy, it will inspect configuration, then first contact the selected ADFS 2 endpoint to request a token. This token will then be used to authenticate against the service. In the next post I will show you the more manual approach using the WIF APIs.
