  • Android Plugin for Eclipse problem

    I am using a laptop with Windows 7 Home Prem x64. I have installed Java JDK1.6.0_18 and Eclipse Gallileo. I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Android SDK with several Platforms loaded and a AVD defined. I can install the Android Eclipse plugin from the remote site stated in the instructions. The plugin installation performs without any errors and I can verify that the plugins are indeed installed. My problem begins when I go to Windows - Preferences, there is no Android section to configure. And when I go to File - New - Project, there is no Android Project to choose. I have uninstalled the plugin and reinstalled at least 10 times, trying different things and still no luck. I originally had the 64 bit version of the JDK installed, but removed it and installed the 32 bit version. Has anyone heard of this type of problem? Is it because I am using Windows 7?   • Trying to find the life expectancy of an unused flash card like SD

    I read in the What's the life expectancy of an SD card? post SD cards are rated to hold data at something like 10 years sitting idle. I recall reading (not sure where) about re-energizing cards by occasionally inserting into a reader. Everything I read rates in read/write cycles and not physical decay. I'm wonder if buying a new sd card for every photo shoot would be beneficial if I could store the cards in a lock box? I was hoping for something much longer. Does anyone else agree with 10 years or maybe something more?

    I've got a fresh Redhat Enterprise 6.2 64-bit instance on EC2. I've turned off the firewall and have installed an FMS 4.5 dev server. The FMS install failed, complaining about a missing libcap.so until I installed the libcap.i686 package.   • Is Flash typically slow on Linux?

    Specifically, I'm running Mint 8 (Helena). I'm extremely new to Linux, and was searching for a solution that was user-friendly and GUI oriented. The box won't be used for much other than web browsing and word processing. Anyway, it runs relatively smoothly, except for Youtube videos... especially full-screen, which runs at like 1 FPS, and even after closing, slows Firefox to a crawl until I restart it. I'd seen an xkcd comic on the matter, but regarded it as a joke until now. Is this actually a problem? Are there any remedies I can try to smooth the applications?

  • How to cope with runaway Flash plugin in Google Chrome browser?

    I'm using Google Chrome for Linux, version 5.0.307.11 (Official Build 39572) beta with the Linux Flash plugin version 10.0 r32. Quite often, the Flash plugin goes wild and pegs the CPU with about 95% usage. Laptop gets hot, battery drains. I can diagnose the problem with Chrome's little process monitor (shift-Esc), and I can even kill the plugin, but then when I actually want to use Flash on a page, I can't find a way to restart the plugin; I have to exit and restart Chrome, which with 30 tabs open is a huge hit. Does anyone know what causes this problem? Does anyone have a better workaround (or heaven forfend, a fix)? [I struct out both with search and with Google's help site for Chrome.]

  • Recommendations for USB flash drive fast at writing small files

    I want a drive that I can be used as my work drive, storing a Subversion repo and sandbox for a small project. I'd also like it to be able to store a DVD rip. At the moment I've got a Super Talent pico-C 8gb. It's fast at reading and writing DVD rips, but the performance on small files (ie less than 4k) is utterly terrible (we're talking floppy disk speeds here). This Ars review measured a similar Super Talent drive and pretty much confirmed my measurements (take a look at the random write speeds on page 5). So, I'm looking for a 8gb or bigger drive that doesn't suck at read and write of small files and still has acceptable performance for very large files.

  • Flash Media Server slow over SSL

    We are using FMS to host a VoD site. We host FMS internally (we do not use a CDN). We recently installed an SSL certificate to alleviate connection issues for clients (they're networks either block or don't support RTMP), however we're noticing that when streaming in RTMPS connections are drastically slower (on the order of Mbps). I know SSL causes some amount of over head but both client and server show almost no signs of exertion. Speedtest.net and a locally hosted speed test confirm that bandwidth is not an issue. I'm really not a network guru, so I'm at a loss as to where to check next. Do any of you have an idea why streaming media would run so slow over SSL?

  • Actual High Speed USB flash drive

    I'm looking to upgrade my EEE 1000H by possibly replacing the HDD with simple (internal) usb connected storage. The problem I'm having now is that I can't seem to find any actual high speed usb sticks. They all proclaim high speeds, but usually turn out to be ~30 mb/s - much lower than the 60 mb/s (480 mbit/s / 8 ) I understand USB 2.0 is at - no ? Can anyone enlighten me as to why no USB sticks seem to go past that low bar or alternatively point me in the direction of some actual high speed usb sticks ?   • Cannot reformat flash drive

    I have tried to reformat on Ubuntu using gparted, in Windows using their tool, and OSX using Disk Utility. I have also attempted by using the terminal but also failed there.   • Dead USB flash drive

    So a friend has come to me with a problem. They have a dead USB thumb drive which no longer responds when plugged into a machine. I've tried it in a Mac and it doesn't even respond, at least on a Windows XP machine it sees that it is there but can't show it in explorer, just that whatever is plugged in has malfunctioned. There is obviously current because the activity light on the drive illuminates. I'm looking for suggestions, please. I have access to Mac or Windows hardware and am happy to experiment (and even to pay if the solution works!) It's a bit late to recommend regular backups, but in the lack of that, what's the next best forensic advice? Edit: I should stress that, if possible, we're trying to rescue the data, after all, thumb drives are basically disposable and hardly worth the bother if there's no emotional or functional reason for wanting to rescue it!

  • USB flash drive showing empty but half of the capacity is in Used

    Not sure if I should post my question in superuser, but it looks like the most appropriate place among all StackExchange sites. I have a 16GB Kingston DataTraveler USB drive. When I tried to use it this morning, it showed up nothing in there but yet its details showed that half of the capacity was in used. I tried it with OS X, Ubuntu, and Windows 7 and the results were the same. I tried to create a new folder and it worked. Apparently, the drive is working but somehow not showing my previously stored data. Note that I was still using the drive last night and there wasn't any problems. Following @rob's suggestion, du -h gave me: 16K ./.Trashes 960K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/2620683B-A38B-42F4-A247-45CAF4826ADE 976K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores 1008K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1 1.0M ./.Spotlight-V100 1.1M And, df -h gave me: /dev/sdb1 15G 7.9G 7.1G 53% /media/KINGSTON Confirming what I reported. Anyone got a clue/answer to this issue? Thanks.

  • Can't click allow button in flash on firefox

    I have a webapp embedding some flash content in an iframe. The flash part is requesting access to the webcam. On firefox/mac os, user's can't click the allow button. This only happens when the page embedding the swf file is loaded in the iframe, it works fine when laded separately. Has anyone else faced a similar problem? D you know any workarounds? Thanks, Alex

  • determine if javascript blur/focusout event is from selecting flash or leaving browser

    In IE when I select flash, document.onfocusout is fired. When this event is fired, I would like to distinguish between selecting flash and leaving the browser. When I handle the callback, document.activeElement is the previous html element with focus (what I just left), so this is not helpful for solving this problem. Clearly there has been a change in focus to warrant calling the blur method -- is this information available somewhere? Or is there a better way to do this?
