  • High-Quality Text-To-Speech engine for personal use

    I'm looking for a high-quality TTS engine that I can afford (let's say less than 1000$). So far, I've tried flite and festival. However, while the results are certainly understandable, technical texts are hard to follow. Commercial TTS solutions from Loquendo and Readspeaker sound way better. However, these companies don't seem to be willing to sell their product to mere mortals - I can't find a price on either's homepage. So, what are good TTS solutions for personal use?

    Hi, I'm trying to get my Android app to play a .wav file recording of the word "Spinach Salad" whenever it sees that phrase being spoken by TTS. Here's the relevant code: spinach_salad.wav is located in /res/raw prodName = "Spinach Salad" mTts.addSpeech(prodName, "com.example.textextractor", R.raw.spinach_salad); ...and later in the code: mTts.speak("blah blah blah " + prodName, TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); I've also tried: mTts.speak("blah blah blah Spinach Salad", TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); and mTts.speak("blah blah blah", TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); mTts.speak(productName_str, TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); In both cases, I'm just hearing the TTS synthesized audio, rather than my custom .wav file. (On a related note, the last chunk of code sometimes speaks out of order, saying the second line before the first).

    Hi all, I've done some searching for this but cannot find what I'm after, specifically. I have two files: "a.txt", "b.txt". Each contains a list of email addresses, separated by newlines. For all lines in "a.txt", I need to check for a match anywhere in "b.txt". If so, the email address in "a.txt" needs to be removed. (Alternatively, a new file "c.txt" could be created with the output if that is easier.) I'm using Mac OS X, so am looking for a shell script that could help, or pointers to how I'd go about constructing the script. Thanks for any help.

    I've been asked by a client if i could jazz up their tagline on their website i'm developing/designing. I've thought about the options and want to stay as SEO minded as i can but i'm struggling to think of a way i could strike a balance between having a really smart, anti-aliased looking heading at the top of their site under the logo but have it searchable/crawlable by the big G (google). Sifr? Cufon? Images? What do people recommend in terms of SEO and visual niceties?

It's similar to a list item with list position set to outside, but I don't want to use a list. What is the simplest way you can think of to achieve this effect? This doesn't work but if I could something like this string = ("How".ForeColor(red) & "are".FontColor(green)) Would it be possible to make anything similar to this in a ListBox?     Hello, I have a C# program where I am using a lot of RegEx.Replace to replace text in my text file. Here is my problem. In my text file, I have a code such as "M6T1". This code is listed in numerous places in the text file. However, I only want to delete it from the bottom (last instance) in the text file. There will always be a "M6T1" at the bottom of the text file, but it is not always the last line. It could be the 3rd line from the bottom, the 5th line from the bottom etc. I only want to get rid of the last instance of "M6T1" so RegEx.Replace won't work here. I don't want to interfer with the other "M6T1"'s in the other locations in the text file. Can someone please give me a solution to this problem? Thanks

    I have an input txt file which has data in the form of records (each row is a record and represents more or less like a DB table) and I need to find for duplicate values. For example: Rec1: ACCOUNT_NBR_1*NAME_1*VALUE_1 Rec2: ACCOUNT_NBR_2*NAME_2*VALUE_2 Rec3: ACCOUNT_NBR_1*NAME_3*VALUE_3 In the above set, the Rec1 and Rec2 are considered to be duplicates as the ACCOUNT NUMBERS are same(ACCOUNT_NBR1). Note: The input file shown above is a delimiter type file (the delimiter being *) however the file type can also be a fixed length file where each column starts and ends with a specified positions. I am currently doing this with the following logic: Loop thru each ACCOUNT NUMBER Loop thru each line of the txt file and record and check if this is repeated. If repeated record the same in a hashtable. End End And I am using 'Pattern' & 'BufferedReader' java API's to perform the above task. But since it is taking a long time, I would like to know a better way of handling it. Thanks, Shibu

Whats the easiest way to take a windows filename (/ \ and other chars are illegal) and scrambling them so no one knows the original filename? I would like to undo this as well.     Hello All, First of all I am very thankful to the owner of this website. I have learned and implement various technologies with the help of solutions provided by the readers. I know the question I asked is posted many time in this forum. And I have tired all of the solutions available, but no luck I may case I am trying to read a dat file which is basically a msg/feed file having more than 22000 Characters. Every line may or may not be of same length. My requirement is to convert the file to fixed line length character file. I have a logic that work well using vb script, however its pretty slow. I have checked with For f/ but no luck. The only delimiter I have is EOT, which i can see in Textpad but not in notepad. I have tried with \n, token=. Please help me in resolving the issue.   • Read Linux-formatted (ext3) EBS volume mounted on Windows Server 2008 instance

    I've got a Windows Server 2008 R2 instance set up in Amazon EC2. I've also got some Ubuntu instances on the same EC2 account. I'd like to be able to mount the EBS volume from one of the Ubuntu instances onto the Windows instance as an external drive and then access that drive from the Windows instance. I've looked at tools like ext2fsd and ext2 IFS, but these haven't worked (I couldn't get the former to work, and the latter says that it supports Windows 2008 but gives an error when I try to install it, saying that it only supports up to Windows 2003). I know that there are all kinds of tools to view Linux partitions and that there are filesystems that are compatible with both Linux and Windows, but neither of those options works here (I want to be able to attach and detach the Ubuntu volumes on command, rather than have a permanent partition, and Ubuntu EBS volumes are ext3 by default). Anybody know a good tool I should use?

  • 1Tb disk formatted on Linux won't mount on windows nor mac

    I have an external HD (western digital) with 1Tb. I use Linux but I wanted to reserve a cross platform partition on the disk. I decided to create two partitions and used the "disks" application to do it. I created one partition with the LUKS (version 1) encryption and the other one, cross platform, in NTFS filesystem. Things work fine on my OS but when I try to use the disk (the cross platform partition) on both windows and mac the device is not recognized. What could it be?   • Formatted a Bootcamped drive as a dynamic disk, now can't boot to either Mac or Windows

    I was trying to create an extra partition to get a file from the Windows side of my Macbook Air to the Mac side, and I accidentally made the disk dynamic without realizing it. I am now unable to boot to the Mac side (holding Alt to go into the system manager at startup doesn't even list the Mac partition), and the Windows side blue screens during boot (goes so quickly that it doesn't even get to the error code before restarting). What can I do to fix the issue? I don't know how to make a bootable flash drive that a Mac will recognize, and Disk Utility (via Internet Recovery) couldn't do anything.
