  • Which software development methodologies can be seen as foundations

    - by Bas
I'm writing a small research paper which involves software development methodologiess. I was looking into all the available methodology's and I was wondering, from all methodologies, are there any that have provided the foundations for the others? For an example, looking at the following methodologies: Agile, Prototyping, Cleanroom, Iterative, RAD, RUP, Spiral, Waterfall, XP, Lean, Scrum, V-Model, TDD. Can we say that: Prototyping, Iterative, Spiral and Waterfall are the "foundation" for the others? Or is there no such thing as "foundations" and does each methodology has it's own unique history? I would ofcourse like to describe all the methodology's in my research paper, but I simply don't have the time to do so and that is why I would like to know which methodologies can be seen as representatives.

  • Web application Project management methodologie

    - by dutchiexl
I am looking to streamline my company's web development process. Including analysis. I myself am specialized in XP and Scrum. But we are building web application with a process cycle of 3-4 weeks and a lifetime of 1-4 months. When a project is sold, only then the project managers (= people who do analysis but know nothing about it = a small flow chart and some screen shots as analysis) What is happening is: A LOT of change requests Minimal development time Minimal analysis time NOW: the main question :) can you recommend me some methodologies and books to read for the entire project management ? Thanks in advance @Edit, I myself was looking at a combination of SCRUM for the management with flowcharts, + RAD/LD for development, and trying to distilate something from that.

  • How to Get Myself Up to Speed in Building a Java Web App

    - by Damian Wells
I'm a new developer at a fairly large company and I'm working on a Java Web Application with a senior developer there. The Web App is built on top of an IBM stack (RAD, DB2, WebSphere) and basically uses JSPs and Servlets. The Web App is an internal tool to be used by employees to manage data coming from Excel files. So, there are lots of database interaction going around like SQL commands. My question is: I don't know much about JavaEE as a whole and only know a little about JSPs and Servlets and I would like to get myself up to speed so I can understand and contribute to the Web App as fast as I could. What resources (tutorials, links, etc) should I be looking at? Am I supposed to get a book about JavaEE or something that focuses just on JSPs and Servlets?

  • What IDEs are available for Ubuntu?

    - by Roland Taylor
This question exists because it has historical significance, but it is not considered a good, on-topic question for this site, so please do not use it as evidence that you can ask similar questions here. See the FAQ for more information. This is a community wiki for IDEs available on Ubuntu. Please post one IDE per answer (including more than just a screenshot or a link, please at least put a short description). In your answer, tell us what the IDE is for (which language(s) or if it is RAD capable).

  • Textures of .x model deformed in XNA

    - by marc wellman
I want to have a 3D model with textures built in SketchUp 8 be imported as a .x model in XNA. So far I have used several .x exporters like http://edecadoudal.googlepages.com/xExporter.rb 3D RAD zbylsxexporter With all of them I have the same problem: The model gets built correctly but the textures are deformed. The sizes of my texture files are multiples of four and inside Sketchup the model looks prefect. That's the texture file which is 256x256: And this is how it looks like in my XNA program: What can I do?

  • What one feature available in other IDEs should be added to Xcode? [closed]

    - by Graham Lee
This is inspired by Which features from other IDEs/editors you wish you have in Visual Studio? Xcode is a very different tool from Visual Studio, with a different feature set. While some of its capabilities are very mature (it had RAD UI layout in Interface Builder since before most other platforms), it lacks some features that e.g. Visual Studio or Eclipse provide. If you could request one feature to be added to Xcode, which would it be? How would that feature help you write better code, or write the same code faster?

  • Visual Web Part as a Sandboxed solution

    - by Steve Clements
You want the RAD wonderfulness of a visual web part, but it needs to be deployed as a Sandboxed solution. Problem? No, SharePoint powertools for visual studio to the rescue!   http://goo.gl/pQ9ct   There are a couple limitations, read the above page, nothing major. e.g. 1. Javascript debugging is not supported 2. Debugging asp.net code is not supported. 3. Use of <% Assembly Src= is not supported   I understand it does it by adding the markup as an embedded resource, but I haven't actually tried it yet!  To come!

  • How to copy files via terminal?

    - by Levan
This might sound silly for some people but I'm new to Linux and don't know how to use it as good as other people, yes I rad about copying files with terminal but these examples will help me a lot. So here is what I want to do: Examples: I have a file in /home/levan/kdenlive untitelds.mpg and I want to copy this file to /media/sda3/SkyDrive and do not want to delete any thing in SkyDrive directory. I have a file in /media/sda3/SkyDrive untitelds.mpg and I want to copy this file to /home/levan/kdenlive and do not want to delete any thing in kdenlive directory I want to copy a folder from home directory to sda3 and do not want to delete any thing on sda3 directory and opposite I want to cut a folder/file and copy to other place without deleting files in that directory I cut it into.

  • Access Denied

Surely, now that PowerPivot has led the way, it is time for Microsoft to offer a new RAD package for database application development; namely an Excel-based front end for SQL Server Express. In that way, we'll have a powerful and familiar front end, to a scalable database, and a clear upgrade path when an app takes off and needs to go enterprise....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.

  • WebSphere Application Server EJB Optimization

    - by Chris Aldrich
We are working on developing a Java EE based application. Our application is Java 1.5 compatible and will be deployed to WAS ND 6.1.0.21 with EBJ 3.0 and Web Services feature packs. The configuration is currently one cell with two clusters. Each cluster will have two nodes. Our application, or our system, as I should rather say, comes in two or three parts. Part 1: An ear deployed to one cluster that contains 3rd party vendor code combined with customization code. Their code is EJB 2.0 compliant and has a lot of Remote Home interfaces. Part 2: An ear deployed to the same cluster as the first ear. This ear contains EBJ 3's that make calls into the EJB 2's supplied by the vendor and the custom code. These EJB 3's are used by the JSF UI also packaged with the EAR, and some of them are also exposed as web services (JAX-WS 2.0 with SOAP 1.2 compliance) for other clients. Part 3: There may be other services that do not depend on our vendor/custom code app. These services will be EJB 3.0's and web services that are deployed to the other cluster. Per a recommendation from some IBM staff on site here, communication between nodes in a cluster can be EJB RMI. But if we are going across clusters and/or other cells, then the communication should be web services. That said, some of us are wondering about performance and optimizing communication for speed of our applications that will use our web services and EJB's. Right now most EJB's are exposed as remote. (and our vendor set theirs up that way, rather than also exposing local home interfaces). We are wondering if WAS does any optimizations between apps in the same node/cluster node space. If two apps are installed in the same area and they call each other via remote home interface, is WAS smart enough to make it a local home interface call? Are their other optimization techniques? Should we consider them? Should we not? What are the costs/benefits? Here is the question from one of our team members as sent in their email: The question is: Supposing we develop our EJBs as remote EJBs, where our UI controller code is talking to our EXT java services via EJB3...what are our options for performance optimization when both the EJB server and client are running in the same container? As one point of reference, google has given me some oooooold websphere performance tuning documentation from 2000 that explains a tuning configuration you can set to enable Call By Reference for EJB communication when they're in the same application server JVM. It states the following: Because EJBs are inherently location independent, they use a remote programming model. Method parameters and return values are serialized over RMI-IIOP and returned by value. This is the intrinsic RMI "Call By Value" model. WebSphere provides the "No Local Copies" performance optimization for running EJBs and clients (typically servlets) in the same application server JVM. The "No Local Copies" option uses "Call By Reference" and does not create local proxies for called objects when both the client and the remote object are in the same process. Depending on your workload, this can result in a significant overhead savings. Configure "No Local Copies" by adding the following two command line parameters to the application server JVM: * -Djavax.rmi.CORBA.UtilClass=com.ibm.CORBA.iiop.Util * -Dcom.ibm.CORBA.iiop.noLocalCopies=true CAUTION: The "No Local Copies" configuration option improves performance by changing "Call By Value" to "Call By Reference" for clients and EJBs in the same JVM. One side effect of this is that the Java object derived (non-primitive) method parameters can actually be changed by the called enterprise bean. Consider Figure 16a: Also, we will also be using Process Server 6.2 and WESB 6.2 as well in the future. Any ideas? recommendations? Thanks

Java 6 is now certified with Oracle Application Server 10g Forms and Reports with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (12.0.6, 12.1.1 and higher). What? Wasn't this already certified? No, but a little background might be useful in understanding why this is a new announcement. We previously certified the use of Java 6 with E-Business Suite Release 12 -- with the sole exception of Oracle Application Server 10g components in the E-Business Suite technology stack. Oracle Application Server 10g originally included Java 1.4.2 as part of its distribution.  E-Business Suite 12 uses, amongst other things, the Oracle Forms and Reports 10g components running on Java 1.4. Java 1.4 in the Oracle Application Server 10g ORACLE_HOME is used exclusively by AS 10g Forms and Reports' for Java functionality.  This version of Java is separate from the Java distribution used by other parts of EBS such as Oracle Containers for Java (OC4J). What's new about this certification? You can now upgrade the older Java 1.4 libraries used by Oracle Forms & Reports 10g to Java 6. This allows you to upgrade the Java releases within the Oracle Application Server 10g ORACLE_HOME to the the same level as the rest of your E-Business Suite technology stack components. Why upgrade? This becomes particularly important for customers as individual vendors' support lifecycle for Java 1.4 reaches End of Life: Oracle's Sun JDK Release 1.4.2's End of Extended Support: February 2013 (Sustaining Support indefinitely after) IBM SDK and JRE 1.4.2's End of Service: September 2013 HP-UX Java 1.4.2's End-of-Life : May 2012 Along with Oracle Forms, Java lies at the heart of the Oracle E-Business Suite.  Small improvements in Java can have significant effects on the performance and stability of the E-Business Suite.  As a notable side-benefit, later versions of Java have improved built-in and third-party tools for JVM performance monitoring and tuning. Our standing recommendation is that you always stay current with the latest available Java update provided by your operating system vendor.  Don't forget to upgrade Forms & Reports to 10.1.2.3 E-Business Suite 12 originally shipped with Oracle Application Server 10g Forms & Reports 10.1.2.0.2.  That version is no longer eligible for Error Correction Support. New Forms and Reports 10g patches are now being released with Forms and Reports 10.1.2.3 as the prerequisite. Forms and Reports 10.1.2.3 was certified for EBS 12 environments in November 2008. If you haven't upgraded your EBS 12 environment to Forms & Reports 10.1.2.3, this is a good opportunity to do so. • What IDE to use for Python

    - by husayt
As a Python newbie, it is interesting to know what IDE's ("GUIs/editors") others use for Python coding. If you can just give the name (e.g. Textpad, Eclipse ..) that will be enough. If it is already mentioned, you can just vote for it. But if you can also give some more comparative information, that will be much appreciated. Thanks. Update: Results so far PyDev with Eclipse (CP, F, AC, PD, EM, SI, MLS, UML, SC, UT, LN, CF, BM) Komodo (CP, C/F, MLS, PD, AC, SC, SI, BM, LN, CF, CT) Emacs (CP, F, AC, MLS, PD, EM, SC, SI, BM, LN, CF, CT, UT, UML) Vim (CP, F, AC, MLS, SI, BM, LN, CF ) TextMate (Mac, CT, CF, MLS, SI, BM, LN) Gedit (Linux, F, AC, MLS, BM, LN, CT [sort of]) Idle (CP, F, AC) PIDA (Linux, CP, F, AC, MLS, SI, BM, LN, CF)(VIM Based) NotePad++ (Windows) BlueFish (Linux) JEdit (CP, F, BM, LN, CF, MLS) E-Texteditor (TextMate Clone for Windows) WingIde (CP, C, AC, MLS (support for C), PD, EM, SC, SI, BM, LN, CF, CT, UT) Eric Ide (CP, F, AC, PD, EM, SI, LN, CF, UT) Pyscripter (Windows, F, AC, PD, EM, SI, LN, CT, UT) ConTEXT (Windows, C) SPE (F, AC, UML) SciTE (CP, F, MLS, EM, BM, LN, CF, CT, SH) Zeus (W, C, BM, LN, CF, SI, SC, CT) NetBeans (CP, F, PD, UML, AC, MLS, SC, SI, BM, LN, CF, CT, UT, RAD) DABO (CP) BlackAdder (C, CP, CF, SI) PythonWin (W, F, AC, PD, SI, BM, CF) Geany (CP, F, very limited AC, MLS, SI, BM, LN, CF) UliPad (CP, F, AC, PD, MLS, SI, LI, CT, UT, BM) Boa Constructor (CP, F, AC, PD, EM, SI, BM, LN, UML, CF, CT) ScriptDev (W, C, AC, MLS, PD, EM, SI, BM, LN, CF, CT) Spider (CP, F, AC) Editra (CP, F, AC, MLS, SC, SI, BM, LN, CF) Pfaide (Windows, C, AC, MLS, SI, BM, LN, CF, CT) KDevelop (CP, F, MLS, SC, SI, BM, LN, CF) Acronyms used: CP - Cross Platfom C - Commercial F - Free AC - Automatic Code-completion MLS - Multi-Language Support PD - Integrated Python Debugging EM - ErrorMarkup SC - Source Control integration SI - Smart Indent BM - Bracket Matching LN - Line Numbering UML - UML editing / viewing CF - Code Folding CT - Code Templates UT - Unit Testing UID - Gui Designer (e.g. QT, Eric, ..) Can you help me to add features of the above editors to the list (like autocomplete, debugging, or etc)?

  • Can SpringSource Tool Suite build compliant EARs for WebSphere 6.1?

    - by bart
I read on the website that SpringSource Tool Suite has build targets for WebSphere. Flexible Deployment Targets Support for all the most common Java EE application servers At the moment we are getting grief from infrastructure as we are giving them WARs built in ant. They are used to taking EAR files built straight out of RAD or RSA. Does SS Tool Suite have the capability to build compliant EARs for Websphere 6.1?

  • Visual Studio 2010 Sku upgrade. From Professional to Ultimate

    - by josecortesp
I have installed Visual Studio 2010 Professional (final version), with some components, plug-ins and templates I use a lot. Recently, I been checking all the things that the Ultimate version has, and I've been wondering, Can I just run the VS2010 ultimate installer and it upgrade the Sku, letting me use all of its features along with the previous plug-ins (like telerik rad controls, Deklarit for VS2010, and VS.php)?? Thanks in advance

  • Real World Experience of db4o and/or Eloquera Database

    - by user341127
I am evaluating two object databases, db4o (http://www.db4o.com) and Eloquera Database (http://eloquera.com) for a coming project. I have to choose one. My basic requirement is scalability, multi user support and easy type evolution for RAD. Please share your real world experience. If you have both, can you compare these two? Which do you prefer?

  • Cant full read querystring data in mvc4 application using a class array as input to action

    - by Anders Lindén
I have made a mvc4 application and I have a Controller that outputs a png file like this: using System.Drawing; using System.Drawing.Drawing2D; using System.Drawing.Imaging; using System.Drawing.Text; using System.IO; using System.Web.Mvc; using Foobar.Classes; namespace Foobar.Controllers { public class ImageController : Controller { public ActionResult Index(Label[] labels) { var bmp = new Bitmap(400, 300); var pen = new Pen(Color.Black); var font = new Font("arial", 20); var g = Graphics.FromImage(bmp); g.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.HighQuality; g.TextRenderingHint = TextRenderingHint.AntiAliasGridFit; if (labels != null) { g.DrawString("" + labels.Length, font, pen.Brush, 20, 20); if (labels.Length > 0) { g.DrawString("" + labels[0].label, font, pen.Brush, 20, 40); } } var stream = new MemoryStream(); bmp.Save(stream, ImageFormat.Png); stream.Position = 0; return File(stream, "image/png"); } } } The Label class looks like this: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; namespace Foobar.Classes { public class Label { public string label { get; set; } public int fontsize { get; set; } } } When I run my controller having this in the url: http://localhost:57775/image?labels[0][label]=Text+rad+1&labels[0][fontsize]=5&labels[1][fontsize]=5&labels[2][fontsize]=5 I get the correct amount of labels, so the image will show 3. But the instances of Label will not get its data members fill in. I have also tried to do this using plain variables (not properties). If they were filled in, the image would actually show "3" and "Text rad 1". So what do I put in the class "Label" to have the properties right? Should there be some kind of annotation? Where do I read about this?
