  I have set up Mobwrite on my Win7 development machine using the daemon and q.py listener. I have a maintenance bug in a VS 2008 project, and have been told that I cannot upgrade the project file. Is there a way for me to make the changes I need to make within VS10 without upgrading the project (including compiling, using the debugger, etc.), or do I need to re-install VS 2008?

  In my Cocoa program, I want to examine what programs are registered to run at startup and modify that list as I feel appropriate. In order to be compatible with Tiger it seems like I need to work through AppleScript. I currently have the following code: NSDictionary* errorDict; NSAppleEventDescriptor* returnDescriptor = NULL; NSString *appleSource = @"tell application \"System Events\"\n\ get every login item\n\ end tell"; NSAppleScript *appleScript = [[NSAppleScript alloc] initWithSource: appleSource]; returnDescriptor = [appleScript executeAndReturnError: &errorDict]; If I run that command in AppleScript, I get back an array of login items. However, I can't figure out how to iterate through this array in Objective-C. More specifically, I want to examine the names and paths of the programs registered to run at startup. Any ideas?

• On-screen keyboard not appearing when editing text fields in a UIWebView

  I have a web view which displays a simple login form, containing username and password fields. However when the user clicks in one of the text fields, although the cursor appears in the text field, the on-screen keyboard does not appear. I've tried registering for UIKeyboardWillShowNotifications notifications and I see this notification arrive, however the keyboard doesn't actually appear on the screen. I've also tried sending the web view to the back of the view hierarchy and changing it's frame so it doesn't occupy the whole screen. However neither of these measures have solved the problem. What would people recommend trying next?

• Editing history in bash

  In bash, when I go back in history, edit some command and run it, this edited command is appended to history and the original one is left intact. But every once in a while I somehow manage to affect the original command, i.e. my edit replaces the original command back in history. I can't put my finger on how this happens. Can someone explain? My goal is to avoid this, so any edit to a previous command always gets appended to history and never replaces the original.

• Editing a labels text value through JavaScript in VB ASP.NET

  I have a simple form containing two text boxes, I am attempting to apply some validation to the first text box using JavaScript. This is the first time I have attempted this and am having some trouble. I have a label beside the text box stating an error, this labels visibility property is set to False. I wish the labels visibility to turn true if the text box is empty when the user loses focus. For this I have used the onBlur option within the tags of the text box. It then calls the JavaScript function and should set the label to Visible but it does not. I have tested to see if it is entering the function by using an alert instead and that works. The problem seems to be trying to alter the visibility property of the label. But is passed to the controller when saving. The way it's set up is this grid will only have 1 horse id at a time (it will exist on a horse's property page.) The only time I've gotten anything to work is when I made it editable, but then that opens it up for the user to modify the id, which isn't a good idea. So is there some way I can set this value before submitting the data? it does exist as a variable on this page, if that helps any (and I've checked that it isn't null). Thanks

• Editing a 9gb .sql file

  Hi. I've got a "slightly" large sql script saved as a textfile. It totals in at 8.92gb, so it's a bit of a beast. I've got to do some search and replaces in this file(specifically, change all NOT NULL to NULL, so all fields are nullable) and then execute the darned thing. Does anyone have any suggestions for a text editor that would be capable of this? The other way that I can see to solve the problem is to write a program that reads a chunk, does a replace on the stuff I need, and then save it to a new file, but I'd rather use some standard way of doing this. It also does not solve the problem of opening the beast up in sql server management studio to execute the darned thing... Any ideas? Thanks, Eric

• WMI: Editing the Registry Remotely

  I'm trying to use the following code (poorly written, but it's just a proof of concept) to edit the registry of a computer on a domain. I have a domain account, and I've verified that the domain admin group is present in the local admin group on the machines I'm attempting to affect. I've connected to these other machines to perform other administrative type tasks, so I'm sure that I have administrative privileges on these hosts. All of StdRegProv's "get" methods work fine (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa393664%28VS.85%29.aspx) but the "set" or "create" methods as well as check access all return "5" which is "Error_Access_Denied" according to winerror.h. So there's the problem: why do I get access denied when attempting to modify the registry? If anyone can help me figure this out, you'd have my utmost appreciation! I almost forgot, when I fire up Visual Studio in admin mode on my local machine and run the code against the local machine, it works flawlessly.   In manual hunk edit mode, the docs say this: # To remove '-' lines, make them ' ' lines (context). # To remove '+' lines, delete them. # Lines starting with # will be removed. What I don't understand is how to remove '-' lines. Say if I had had this bit of code: Alfa Bejta And I've edited it in my working tree to: Alpha Beta The diff is: - Alfa - Bejta + Alpha + Beta How do I edit the hunk to only commit the modifications to the first line? I've tried these: - Alfa Bejta + Alpha - Alfa + Alpha Bejta to no avail.

• Specific programming text editor for simple open/close editing

  I'm looking for very specific text editor: Closes on ESC, no project management or tabs Syntax highlighting - preferably with color themes (e.g. can apply different color themes without changing C# coloring definition) or, at least, can load/save themes; support for C/C#/XML/HTML/JavaScript/etc - common MS/.NET world - out of box Configurable keys, or: Shift-Tab shifts blocks XML/HTML auto-completion support - well, optional I use synplus plugin for Total Commander currently, but it has few drawbacks (e.g. crashes sometimes ;-), no auto-completion, etc). Basically I want fast Visual-Studio-like editor that I open, do edits, and then close using ESC. I remember I tried Notepad++, etc - most of them open files in tabs, don't close on ESC... - that is, behave like IDE. At least I've just downloaded Notepad++, it doesn't close on ESC even if I setup keybindings to do so. Autocompletion is optional (though it is to be simple as just tags completion), what I really look for is closing on ESC, not getting in the way with all the tabs and IDE-like, and good coloring. Plus shift-tab is must have for blocks manipulation. Update: any open-source one that I can easily tweak to close on ESC? ;-) Seems like ESC (and reasonable color highlighting) is the core requirement. I've just tried many editors - Programmer's Notepad, E, Crimson, etc - I can't set any of them to close on ESC. Any external tool to close selected program on ESC? ;-) UPDATE: Hm, found an awesome utility for my latest thought: http://www.autohotkey.com. Easy to setup to close any window on ESC (as well as many other tricks). Seems like the most tough requirements is gone - I can use ANY text editor ;-)

• Re-Convert timestamp DATE back to original format (when editing) PHP MySQL

  Ok so I have managed to get the format of the date presented in HTML (upon display) to how I want (dd/mm/yyy)...However, the user also can change the date via a form. So this is how it's setup as present. Firstly, the conversion from YYYY-MM-DD to DD/MM/YYYY and then display in HTML: $timestamp = strtotime($duedate); echo date('d/m/Y', $timestamp); Now when the user selects to update the due date, the value already stored value is drawn up and presented in my text field (using exactly the same code as above).. All good so far. But when my user runs the update script (clicks submit), the new due date is not being stored, and in my DB its seen as '0000-00-00'. I know I need to convert it back to the correct format that MySQL wants to have it in, in order for it to be saved, but I'm not sure on how to do this. This is what I have so far in my update script (for the due date): $duedate = $_POST['duedate']; $timestamp = strtotime($duedate); date('Y/m/d', $timestamp); $query = "UPDATE films SET filmname= '".$filmname."', duedate= '".$duedate; Can somebody please point me in the right direction to have the new date, when processed, converted back to the accepted format by MySQL. • Text editing best practices (with tags, etc.)

  Hi there, I want to create a text field with some text, that is styled with tags. Think of MS Word, some ext is bold, some is a headline, etc. The tags that style the text are not visible to the user, he just sees the text in bold. How do I preserve these tags? I mean when I backspace over the closing bold-tag, for example, how do I preserve that and prevent that the rest of the text is now bold until the end? I guess this is a pretty basic question for experiences programmers. Are there any algorithms or best practices? This problem surely has been solved before, any pointers? (If this is of any concern, I develop for the iPhone OS and the text field will be a UITextView, but my question is more general I guess.) Thanks in advance!

• Editing remote files over SSH, using TextMate?

  I LOVE using TextMate on my MacBook. It's great. Unfortunately, I want to edit some files directly on my dev server, since it's difficult to recreate the environment locally. I'm using Git, so one alternative is to just edit locally, git commit, git push, and then git merge, but that's kind of complicated every time I want to make a simple change. I'd rather just ... use another solution. One thing I tried is mounting a hard drive via MacFusion, and then loading that in an editor. But that's so freaking laggy/slow! Has anyone cooked up a better solution?

• Editing a User's Likes on Facebook

  I've been looking at the Facebook API to find some way to edit a user's Likes (that is, add or remove items from https://graph.facebook.com/me/likes/). The API doesn't say anything about it specifically, but does say this: You can publish to the Facebook graph by issuing HTTP POST requests to the appropriate connection URLs above. Where above, one of the connection URLs is the aforementioned https://graph.facebook.com/me/likes link. However, there's no documentation for the PROFILE_ID/likes post, and whenever I try to post it returns the error "invalid post_id". I assume this is because to like something, you post a request to POST_ID/likes. It's a bit inconsistent. What I'm trying to do is get the user's profile to add a Page to their likes (by posting using the page's id as an "id" parameter in the post body). However, it seems like there's just no way to edit user's likes. At the end of the day, I just want to allow a user to click a button in my application (mobile device application, not a web app) and have them add our Facebook page into their list of pages, and I've found no way of doing that short of presenting our page to them and making them click on the "Like" button manually. Many other things are supported without showing the Facebook website, like posting to their wall or making albums, but I can't find anything to do this. Any ideas?

• Are there macro facility for Java or C#?

  Macros are useful. Therefore, I occasionally bemoan the absence of macros in Java and C#. Macros allow me to force in-line but allow me the code-manageability of non-macro code. Is there any Java- or C#-based project/product somewhere out there that effectively allow macros or specifying in-line expansion. I am thinking of something like @macro public void hello(int x){ ... } or when I call a method, an @inline annotation preceding the call would effect the called-method to be in-lined. or, should I need to know that I should just trust the compiler to make the best the decision for me that at the best of its analysis it might in-line a call. I hope this question will not lead to debating the pro/cons/usefulness of macros.

• Default taglibs used within included JSPs for editing

  Hello everyone Within Eclipse's jsp-editor, as you all know, I get code-assistance for external taglibs once I defined them. In the project I am working on now a lot of jsps are just included and have no taglib definition in the top which gives me a lot of editor warnings. In the deployment this doesnt matter because the taglibs are defined in the head-jsp. Is there a way that I can define default taglibs within a project so the eclipse editor will give me code-assist even though I dont include the taglib in each file again?
