X11 on the Mac does a horrible job drawing fonts. I'm trying to use the GIMP and Inkscape and the menus, and other text, don't draw correctly half the time. What is the fix for this?
Hi,
We have a CISCO ASA 5510 at work. We want to configure the same such that it can serve specific IP addresses based on the MAC address of the clients.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can not run the Terminal.app after rolling back my system from time machine.
Mac OS X Version 10.6.2
It displays the following error.
"Your are not authorized to run this application"
"The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value"
After that I have deleted the file
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist
But the same message is displayed.
I have repaired all system rights with the DiskUtility but that did not help.
Anybody know what this "spsecure" program is that's installed on my mac?
Location /usr/local/sps/spsecure
Is it a legitimate program, or is it spyware?
Would this question be better asked at serverfault?
In a lot of window managers for X11, you can move windows by clicking anywhere on them and dragging while holding down the alt key. Is there anyway to get similar functionality on Mac OS X?
Very confusing question here.

I have a high end Mac pro, but one thing in is that I'm unhappy with is a DVD drive. It's a Hitachi GH41N. Apple calls it a "superdrive", but it's anything but. The damn thing makes an amazing amount of noise, and isn't too fast either.
What I want is a state of the art, fast, quiet DVD reader, preferably not even a burner. What should I get?
I've been using Coda from http://www.panic.com/coda/; great program, but overkill for just a multi session Mac terminal app. Know of a better alternative, especially with a command snippet library function?
When I open .doc file in Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 and MathType 6 installed I get "U" in all formulas instead of "v".
The original file was made in MSWord 2003 for Windows with MathType 6.
But when I click and open the formula in MathType 6 and then save it back I get correct formula as it was originally written with "v". I am trying to figure out how to I trigger all formulas to be opened in MathType in batch without clicking on each. Or could it be fixed in another way
That putty option to select and then right-click to paste in the best invention after the mouse. Is there anyway to make the terminal do this? Hack the source code? Install something?
Are the source code for the mac terminal public available?

Are there any free solutions for encrypting the entire boot disk on a Mac? I'm aware of PGP's Whole Disk Encryption, but it's a bit steep at $149. TrueCrypt's System Encryption seems to only work with Windows.

Hi so i am trying to install the commands wget and with-readline for use with Mac OS X's terminal. The configuration seems to work fine for both even though i am required to specify for the first one, host= i686-apple.
When i get to the make part of the installation, the output is as follows.
For wget:
for with-readline
so does anyone have any idea what's going on?
Pastie links:

Hi,
after googling for some Mac OSX terminal shortcuts, I wanted to find how can I go back characters on a line on the terminal or words or similar. I found ALT+B but it does not work.
Do you know some other shortctus, or how can I customize them or links to cheat sheets?
Thanks
What is the best speech to text software for mac? I have an hours worth of audio that I need to transcribe, and I'd really like to not have to do it manually :-).
I prefer free options and I like open source so if there is a project I'd like to know. All answers are welcome though.
So, this is the first time I try to watch a DVD disc on my (new) Mac and I wonder if I can not choose any region, disable the regular DVD Player and/or just play discs from anywhere. Do I have to choose a region?
Dear Friends
I have been trying to virtualise Mac OS-X 10.5 Leopard (I used an iso) on my Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. Which has yielded no success ! ..... can OS-X be the guest OS in Virtual Box ?
Has anyone done it, are there any legality issues

Ubuntu can't detect my monitor type. What driver shall I update Ubuntu with? Or how can I go about increasing the resolution past 800x600, if no higher resolution is visibly available?
I'm running Ubuntu 9.1 on Virtual Box 3.1.6 on Mac OSX 10.6.3
Thanks in advance!
