  • True middle click on Mac trackpad under Leopard.

    - by dreeves
The answers here http://superuser.com/questions/13351/how-to-middle-click-on-new-macbooks seem to give solutions that work for older versions of OSX, and one works for Snow Leopard. But none of them seem to work for Leopard. Does anyone have a solution to generate a true middle click without an external mouse, under Leopard?

  • Mac / OS X Finder regularly jumps down or changes selection in the file list (annoyance)

    - by RipperDoc
I have this annoying problem with Finder on Snow Leopard. Every time I activate a Finder window and for example navigate to a folder, a few seconds later the selection or scroll will jump down in the list. It is like something is changed with the folder and the position is resetted or changed. Anyone know what causes this? Is Finder detecting some constant change in the folder that I cannot see? Folder Actions?

  • performing simple stack overflow on Mac os 10.6

    - by REALFREE
I'm trying to learn about stack base overflow and write a simple code to exploit stack. But somehow it doesn't work at all but showing only Abort trap on my machine (mac os leopard) I guess Mac os treats overflow differently, it won't allow me to overwrite memory through c code. for example, strcpy(buffer, input) // lets say char buffer[6] but input is 7 bytes on Linux machine, this code successfully overwrite next stack, but prevented on mac os (Abort trap) Anyone know how to perform a simple stack-base overflow on mac machine?

  • Snow Leopard mounted directory changes permissions sporadically

    - by Galen
I have a smb mounted directory: /Volumes/myshare This was mounted via Finder "Connect to Server..." with smb://myservername/myshare Everything good so far. However, when I try to access the directory via PHP (running under Apache), it fails with permission denied about 10% of the time. By this I mean that repeated accesses to my page sometimes result in a failure. My PHP page looks like: <?php $cmd = "ls -la /Volumes/ 2>&1"; exec($cmd, $execOut, $exitCode); echo "<PRE>EXIT CODE = $exitCode<BR/>"; foreach($execOut as $line) { echo "$line <BR/>"; } echo "</PRE>"; ?> When it succeeds it looks like: EXIT CODE = 0 total 40 drwxrwxrwt@ 4 root admin 136 Jun 14 12:34 . drwxrwxr-t 30 root admin 1088 Jun 4 13:09 .. drwx------ 1 galen staff 16384 Jun 14 09:28 myshare lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 1 Jun 11 16:05 galenhd - / When it fails it looks like: EXIT CODE = 1 ls: myshare: Permission denied total 8 drwxrwxrwt@ 4 root admin 136 Jun 14 12:34 . drwxrwxr-t 30 root admin 1088 Jun 4 13:09 .. lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 1 Jun 11 16:05 galenhd - / OTHER INFO: I'm working with the PHP (5.3.1), and Apache server that comes out of the box with Snow Leopard. Also, if I write a PHP script that loops and retries the "ls -la.." from the command-line, it doesn't seem to fail. Nothing is changing about the code and/or filesystem between succeeds and fails, so this appears to be a truly intermittent failure. This is driving me crazy. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Thanks, Galen

  • Is there a SUPPORTED way to run .NET 4.0 applications natively on a Mac?

    - by Dan
What, if any, are the Microsoft supported options for running C#/.NET 4.0 code natively on the Mac? Yes, I know about Mono, but among other things, it lags Microsoft. And Silverlight only works in a web browser. A VMWare-type solution won't cut it either. Here's the subjective part (and might get this closed): is there any semi-authoritative answer to why Microsoft just doesn't support .NET on the Mac itself? It would seem like they could Silverlight and/or buy Mono and quickly be there. No need for native Visual Studio; cross-compiling and remote debugging is fine. The reason is that where I work there is a growing amount of Uncertainty about the future which is causing a lot more development to be done in C++ instead of C#; brand new projects are chosing to use C++. Nobody wants to tell management 18–24 months from now "sorry" should the Mac (or iPad) become a requirement. C++ is seen as the safer option, even if it (arguably) means a loss in productivity today.

  • Friday Fun: Snow Crusher

    - by Asian Angel
It has probably been a long week whether you have already returned to work or are finishing up the last of your vacation time. If you are in need of some stress relief, then we have we the perfect game for you. This week you get to be totally fiendish and use a monster size snowball to destroy as many cars as possible at the local snow lodge. Snow Crusher The object of the game is simple…create as large of a monster snowball as you can and then send it down over the side of the mountain to destroy the cars at the snow lodge. You can choose from three different sizes of monster snowballs to create. We chose the “Snowflake Size” for our reign of destruction. Once you have chosen a monster snowball size, all that is left to do is select the control method that works best for you. As soon as you select the control method, your monster snowball creation will automatically begin. Keep in mind that the faster your snowball goes the harder it can become to steer if you make sudden movements… At the top you can watch your progress towards the drop-off point and the green boxes highlighted at the bottom indicate how large of an item (such as trees or boulders) your snowball can roll over and add to the total mass. Snowball speed is shown in the lower right corner. Time to roll! As soon as the first green box is lit up you can start adding small trees to your snowball’s mass. You will want to avoid larger items as you go because they will penalize your score, slow you down, and reduce the size of your snowball! Halfway to the drop-off point and our snowball is now able to grab up larger trees. If you have not hit any large items along the way, your snowball will definitely be moving along at a good rate by now. When you reach the end of the mass building area, your snowball will pop out into the open and get ready to drop off over the side of the mountain. Go snowball go! Yes! Thirteen cars crushed and ready for the scrap yard… If the “Snowflake Size” snowball can do this, just think what the “Avalanche Size” can do with three minutes of time to build up mass! Have fun with those monster snowballs! • Compiling Quake 3 in Snow Leopard

    - by Xap87
First of all I have Xcode 4 installed in Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have downloaded the Quake 3 source code 1.32b release but I can't open the Xcode project that is inside the /macosx folder since it is in the old .pbproj format and therefore it throws an "incompatible version" error. Has anyone been able to convert this to a Xcode format or is there any other way to compile the source code in Mac OS X Snow Leopard? Thanks

  • Mac OS X Development.

    - by j-t-s
Hi All, I would love to begin developing applications for the MAC OS X, although I have to idea where to start. Problem: I currently do not, and cannot afford a new MAC OS X-based computer. Solution: A very good friend loves trying out things that I've made for Windows, and also owns a MAC OS X computer, and is willing to test these new creations. Now I am faced with another problem. I don't know which language to use to develop these apps in. I am a .NET Developer and seeing as though I can only use a Windows based PC to develop MAC apps, where should I start? I've heard of Mono, and have used it on Linux before, would Mono be an option for MAC development on a Windows based computer, too? Are there any other ways around this? Any help is appreciated. :) Thank you jt

  • How do I make the icons smaller in Stacks grid view for Snow Leopard?

    - by Sietse
Since I installed Snow Leopard, I'm stuck with huge icons in my stacks/folder views in my dock. It use to adjust the layout and size of the window so that as many icons as possible fit on the screen, but now it shows huge icons and a scrollbar instead. I'd like the old behavior back so I don't have to scroll anymore. Does anyone know where the setting for this is? Maybe hidden in some .plist?

  • Differences between how OS X Snow Leopard and Lion interface with a proxy?

    - by Antoni
We have a proxy at school, which requires a login/password, and blocks a certain number of sites that aren't "school related" (facebook, youtube, etc.) While I'm able to get through to most things, people who've upgraded to Lion can't get through to anything, even though I've replicated my proxy/network settings on their machines. Is it possible that the difference in OS versions is causing this? I have Snow Leopard, they have Lion.

  • Is it possible to build a Mac binary on a non-Mac unix machine?

    - by nbolton
I would like to set up a Mac buildbot slave, but unfortunately it's not possible to install Mac OS X 10.5 on my XenServer hypervisor. So, I've had an idea, but not quite sure whether or not it'll work. The application is C++, and on Mac it's compile using GNU Make. I have a Mac desktop PC, and I was hoping I could copy the .h and .lib files on to a Linux box, and try to build against the Mac headers: #include <mach-o/dyld.h> #include <AvailabilityMacros.h>

  • Qt on Mac: where to find "configure"

    - by Gil
hi, I am very new to Mac. I downloaded QT SDK Mac Open source (http://get.qt.nokia.com/qtsdk/qt-sdk-mac-opensource-2010.02.dmg) and installed the Package. I can run qmake, build samples and run demos, but I cannot run configure (in order to build the Qt libraries statically). It says: -bash: No such file or directory. Documentation says I should run this in the "Qt root folder", but what is this folder in Mac? I looked for it in /usr/bin, /usr/local/Qt4.6, /Developer/Tools/Qt. Anyway, what is "configure" on Mac. is it an executable or a script? Thanks a lot

  • How to associate localhost in Snow Leopard to a specific ip ?

    - by Patrick
I've disabled the web server on Snow Leopard, and I'm using an emulated Ubuntu with Lighttpd web server. In order to access to the web pages I need to specify the ip of the emulated machine. However I now need to associated such ip with "localhost" in Leopard environment. When I type localhost in Leopard I actually want to visit the localhost on the Ubuntu machine. Do I need apache on leopard to make the forward or can I change network settings in Leopard or what ? thanks
