  • Best JavaOne 2012 Session!

    - by Geertjan
    Go here to watch a really cool BOF, which was run late at night at some stage during the past week's JavaOne 2012, and which I really enjoyed even though I was falling asleep due to jetlag. (I literally woke up a few times, which means I must have been sleeping.) I loved it even though it was on a topic that doesn't really interest me as such, I just happen to know the speaker. (And I was too tired to stumble back to the hotel for a nap so thought I'd do so while attending a session thereby killing two birds with one stone.) It's really funny and educational. I won't reveal what it is about.  http://blueskybd.vo.llnwd.net/o16/oracle/BOF5165_mp4_5165_001.html Guaranteed, if you watch to the end, you'll have a good time and learn a lot. You'll learn WAY more than the narrow confines of the specific topic.

  • Password Policy seems to be ignored for new Domain on Windows Server 2008 R2

    - by Earl Sven
    I have set up a new Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller, and have attempted to configure the Default Domain Policy to permit all types of passwords. When I want to create a new user (just a normal user) in the Domain Users and Computers application, I am prevented from doing so because of password complexity/length reasons. The password policy options configured in the Default Domain Policy are not defined in the Default Domain Controllers Policy, but having run the Group Policy Modelling Wizard these settings do not appear to be set for the Domain Controllers OU, should they not be inherited from the Default Domain policy? Additionally, if I link the Default Domain policy to the Domain Controllers OU, the Group Policy Modelling Wizard indicates the expected values for complexity etc, but I still cannot create a new user with my desired password. The domain is running at the Windows Server 2008 R2 functional level. Any thoughts? Thanks! Update: Here is the "Account policy/Password policy" Section from the GPM Wizard: Policy Value Winning GPO Enforce password history 0 Passwords Remembered Default Domain Policy Maximum password age 0 days Default Domain Policy Minimum password age 0 days Default Domain Policy Minimum password length 0 characters Default Domain Policy Passwords must meet complexity Disabled Default Domain Policy These results were taken from running the GPM Wizard at the Domain Controllers OU. I have typed them out by hand as the system I am working on is standalone, this is why the table is not exactly the wording from the Wizard. Are there any other policies that could override the above? Thanks!

  • Chrome caching 302 redirects

    - by Thermionix
    I have a php script with is used to rotate banner images on a site. Under Firefox/IE page refreshes will make another request and a different image will be returned. Under Chrome, the request seems to be cached and only opening the page in a new tab will cause it to actually query the script. I believe this used to work in older versions of chrome, I've tried a few different types of redirect codes all with the same result. Any tips? <img class="banner" src="/inc/banner.php" alt=""> ~$ cat /var/www/inc/banner.php <?php header("HTTP/1.1 302 Redirect"); header("Cache-Control: max-age=0, no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate"); //header('HTTP/1.1 307 Temporary Redirect'); //header("expires: none"); //header("expires: max"); //header("Cache-Control: public"); $folder = '../img/banner/'; $exts = 'jpg jpeg png gif'; $files = array(); $i = -1; if ('' == $folder) $folder = './'; $handle = opendir($folder); $exts = explode(' ', $exts); while (false !== ($file = readdir($handle))) { foreach($exts as $ext) { // for each extension check the extension if (preg_match('/\.'.$ext.'$/i', $file, $test)) { // faster than ereg, case insensitive $files[] = $file; // it's good ++$i; } } } closedir($handle); // We're not using it anymore mt_srand((double)microtime()*1000000); // seed for PHP < 4.2 $rand = mt_rand(0, $i); // $i was incremented as we went along header('Location: '.$folder.$files[$rand]); flush(); ?> curl output; ~$ curl -I -k https://example.net/inc/banner.php HTTP/1.1 302 Redirect Server: nginx/1.1.14 Date: Fri, 24 Feb 2012 03:23:46 GMT Content-Type: text/html Connection: keep-alive X-Powered-By: PHP/5.3.10-1ubuntu1 Cache-Control: max-age=0, no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate Location: ../img/banner/2.jpg

  • AD User Passwords expiring without any notifications?

    - by scooter133
    We setup password Policies in Active Directory to Expire peoples passwords after so many days. Well it looks like the time has come for the Expiration of the Passwords and people are getting locked out... There has been no warning of user passwords about to expire. They just come in to work and they cannot log in, the phones no longer connect, nothing. Reset the password and all is good. Some of the users are locked out, though most are not, they just cannot log in. On setting the password Expiration, I didn't see anything about nor warning the users of the impending expiration. Seems like it used to warn you 15 days or so before it would expire. Clients range from: WinXP, WinVista, Win7 and Server 2008R2 Remote Desktop Services. • How can I configure apache to cache the images that it is serving? Right now it is giving headers t

    - by Tchalvak
    Serving up images that don't seem to cache There's a LAPP (postgresql instead of mysql) running over on http://ninjawars.net. I just recently noticed that images don't seem to be caching with any kind of good frequency as I was reloading a page with a few images on it here: http://www.ninjawars.net/attack_player.php Here is an example image (they're probably all being served exactly the same): http://www.ninjawars.net/images/characters/fighter.png Checking the header, it seems that the caching is set to: Cache-Control:max-age=0 (the full header for this image-like-all-the-others is... Request URL:http://www.ninjawars.net/images/characters/fighter.png Request Method:GET Status Code:200 OK Request Headers Accept:application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,/;q=0.5 Cache-Control:max-age=0 Referer:http://www.ninjawars.net/images/characters/fighter.png User-Agent:Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.3 Safari/533.4 Response Headers Accept-Ranges:bytes Content-Length:938 Content-Type:image/png Date:Thu, 13 May 2010 21:24:07 GMT ETag:"ffd4d-3aa-4837efc120540" Last-Modified:Mon, 05 Apr 2010 15:28:45 GMT Server:Apache ) So what modules or config or htaccess or whatever do I change to have it cache images, e.g. for 24 hours?

  • Cache-control for permanent 301 redirects nginx

    - by gansbrest
    I was wondering if there is a way to control lifetime of the redirects in Nginx? We would liek to cache 301 redirects in CDN for specific amount of time, let say 20 minutes and the CDN is controlled by the standard caching headers. By default there is no Cache-control or Expires directives with the Nginx redirect. That could cause the redirect to be cached for a really long time. By having specific redirect lifetime the system could have a chance to correct itself, knowing that even "permanent" redirect change from time to time.. The other thing is that those redirects are included from the Server block, which according the nginx specification should be evaluated before locations. I tried to add add_header Cache-Control "max-age=1200, public"; to the bottom of the redirects file, but the problem is that Cache-control gets added twice - first comes let say from the backend script and the other one added by the add_header directive.. In Apache there is the environment variable trick to control headers for rewrites: RewriteRule /taxonomy/term/(\d+)/feed /taxonomy/term/$1 [R=301,E=expire:1] Header always set Cache-Control "store, max-age=1200" env=expire But I'm not sure how to accomplish this in Nginx.

  • Requesting better explanation for expires headers

    - by syn4k
    I have successfully implemented expires headers however, for several days I have been stumped by one thing. This article: http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/how-to-add-far-future-expires-headers-to-your-wordpress-site-1533 states Keep in mind that when you use expires header the files are cached in the browser until it expires so do not use this on files that changes frequently. Other sites indicate the same in my reading. But this doesn't seem to be true. I have updated an image, using the same name, several times. Each time I update and refresh my browser, the new image (with the same name) displays. I understand from this article that the old image should display unless I use a new name. Do you happen to know where the misunderstanding is? I have verified that the image in question has expires headers set on it: Request Headers: Host domain.com User-Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.28) Gecko/20120306 Firefox/3.6.28 FirePHP/0.5 Accept image/png,image/*;q=0.8,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Language en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding gzip,deflate Accept-Charset ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive 115 Connection keep-alive Referer http://domain.com/index.php Cookie __utma=1.61479883.1332439113.1332783348.1332796726.4; __utmz=1.1332439113.1.1.utmcsr=(direct)|utmccn=(direct)|utmcmd=(none);PHPSESSID=lv2hun9klt2nhrdkdbqt8abug7; __utmb=1.33.10.1332796726; __utmc=1; ck_authorized=true x-insight activate If-Modified-Since Mon, 26 Mar 2012 21:55:33 GMT Cache-Control max-age=0 Response Headers: Date Mon, 26 Mar 2012 22:06:50 GMT Server Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Connection close Expires Wed, 25 Apr 2012 22:06:50 GMT Cache-Control max-age=2592000

  • CSS and JS files not being updated, supposedly because of Nginx Caching

    - by Alberto Elias
    I have my web app working with AppCache and I would like that when I modify my html/css/js files, and then update my Cache Manifest, that when the user accesses my web app, they will have an updated version of those files. If I change an HTML file, it works perfectly, but when I change CSS and JS files, the old version is still being used. I've been checking everything out and I think it's related to my nginx configuration. I have a cache.conf file that contains the following: gzip on; gzip_types text/css application/x-javascript text/x-component text/richtext image/svg+xml text/plain text/xsd text/xsl text/xml image/x-icon; location ~ \.(css|js|htc)$ { expires 31536000s; add_header Pragma "public"; add_header Cache-Control "max-age=31536000, public, must-revalidate, proxy-revalidate"; } location ~ \.(html|htm|rtf|rtx|svg|svgz|txt|xsd|xsl|xml)$ { expires 3600s; add_header Pragma "public"; add_header Cache-Control "max-age=3600, public, must-revalidate, proxy-revalidate"; } And in default.conf I have my locations. I would like to have this caching working on all locations except one, how could I configure this? I've tried the following and it isn't working: location /dir1/dir2/ { root /var/www/dir1; add_header Pragma "no-cache"; add_header Cache-Control "private"; expires off; } Thanks

    I've edited my php.ini file so that it has these two entries: zlib.output_compression = On zlib.output_compression_level = 4 However, after restarting apache, when I request php pages, the headers returned in the response indicate that my server is still NOT serving compressed pages (here are selected headers as viewed using Chrome's Network feature): Cache-Control:no-cache, must-revalidate, max-age=0 Connection:Keep-Alive Content-Type:text/html; charset=UTF-8 Date:Mon, 17 Sep 2012 23:46:13 GMT Expires:Wed, 11 Jan 1984 05:00:00 GMT Last-Modified:Mon, 17 Sep 2012 23:46:13 GMT Pragma:no-cache Proxy-Connection:Keep-Alive Server:Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/5.2.17 Transfer-Encoding:chunked Via:1.1 XXX-PRXY-07 X-Powered-By:PHP/5.2.17 What might I be doing wrong?   • Apache caching with mod_headers mod_expires

    - by Aaron Moodie
    Hi, I'm working on homework for uni and was hoping someone could clarify something for me. I need to set up the following: Configure the response header "Cache-Control" to have a "max-age" value of 7 days since access for all image files Configure the response header "Cache-Control" to have a "max-age" value of 5 days since modification for all static HTML files. Configure the response header "Cache-Control" to have a value of "public" for all static HTML and image files. Configure the response header "Cache-Control" to have a value of "private" for all PHP files. My question is whether it is better to use a FilesMatch, or the mod_expires ExpiresByType to best achieve this? I've so far used the following: <FilesMatch "\.(gif|jpe?g|png)$"> ExpiresDefault "access plus 7 days" Header set Cache-Control "public" </FilesMatch> <FilesMatch "\.(html)$"> ExpiresDefault "modification plus 5 days" Header set Cache-Control "public" </FilesMatch> <FilesMatch "\.(php)$"> Header set Cache-Control "private" </FilesMatch> Thanks.

  • Exchange 2003 -- Mailbox Management not deleting ALL messages aged 30 days or older...

    - by tcv
    I've recently created a Mailbox Management task within Exchange 2003 that, every night, looks at the contents of the Deleted Items within a particular mailbox and deletes mail that's 30 days or older. The scheduled task ran on its own last night and I have confirmed that messages within the right mailbox and the right folder were, in fact, processed. Many mails were deleted ... but not never email older than 30 days. In fact, the choice seems kinda random. Last night 3/10/2010 was the 30 day watermark. Mails were deleted from 3/10/2010, sure enough, but not all of them. Mails older than 3/10/2010 were deleted as well, but, again, not all of them. The only criteria I have on the management -- aside from the single mailbox and single folder scopes -- is the age criteria. The size criteria is set to Any, meaning I don't care about the size. I care about the age. It's made me wonder where there is some sort of limit on how many mails can be processed? The schedule is set for 12am and 1am every night. Any hints appreciated.

  • How to track things that SHOULD happen, but might not have

    - by Kamiel Wanrooij
    I am running into a couple of issues with some applications we've deployed and maintain. I have the feeling we have approached this with some anti-patterns up to now, but I would like to see how to make this more flexible and stable. In one situation, we have a server at a client which pushes data to us to parse every night (yes, Windows Task Scheduler). This is highly unstable however, so once every month this doesn't happen because of reasons out of our control. This heavily impacts our business since we run with stale data in that situation. In another scenario we have a lot of background job processes that should be running. We already keep them up using bluepill ( http://www.github.com/arya/bluepill ) but obviously restarts happen, both automatically and manually, and people forget things or systems mess up. What I would like to track is events that should occur or should be available. Like the existence of a process, the execution of a program, or the creation/age of a file, and track it when they don't happen or exist. We develop most things in Ruby on Rails, use NewRelic, Bluepill and Munin, and run on Ubuntu. I've been toying around with counting ps aux | grep processname | wc -l in Munin scripts, or capturing the age of a file and raising alerts over 24-26 hours, stuff like that. Is there better tooling to track things that should happen, and raise alerts if they don't? P.S. I know some things are suboptimal, like manually having to define bluepill for applications and then forgetting to do so. The same goes for the push based approach of the first application, a dedicated daemon that manages that on the client side that we control and can track its connection to us might be a much better solution.

  • Nginx conditional not evaluating correctly

    - by cjc
    I'm running into a weird problem with nginx and how it evaluates conditionals. Here's the relevant configuration: set $cors FALSE; if ($http_origin ~* (http://example.com|http://dev.example.com:8000|http://dev2.example.com)) { set $cors TRUE; } if ($request_method = 'OPTIONS') { set $cors $cors$request_method; } if ($cors = 'TRUE') { add_header 'Access-Test' "$cors"; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' "$http_origin"; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Methods' 'POST, OPTIONS'; add_header 'Access-Control-Max-Age' '1728000'; } if ($cors = 'TRUEOPTIONS') { add_header 'Access-Test' "$cors"; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' "$http_origin"; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Methods' 'POST, OPTIONS'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Headers' 'X-Requested-With, X-Prototype-Version'; add_header 'Access-Control-Max-Age' '1728000'; add_header 'Content-Type' 'text/plain'; } So, the conditional blocks never trigger. When I remove the conditions, I see that the "Access-Test" header and the "Access-Control-Allow-Origin" set correctly, but, as noted, enabling the conditionals causes the headers not to be sent. I'm testing by running: curl -Iv -i --request "OPTIONS" -H "Origin: http://example.com" http://staging.example.com/ Am I missing something obvious? I've tried the "if" with and without quotes, etc. This is nginx 1.2.9.

  • HTML5 Form: Page Is Reloading Instantly After Restyling (And It Shouldn't Be)

    - by user3689753
    I have a form. I have made it so that if your name is not put in, a red border is put on the name field. That works, BUT...it's for a split second, and then the page reloads. I want the red border to appear, and then stay there. For some reason it's for a split second. Can someone help me make it so the page doesn't reload after displaying the red border? Here's the script. window.onload = function() { document.getElementById("Hogwarts").onsubmit = function () { window.alert("Form submitted. Owl being sent..."); var fname = document.getElementById("fName"); if(!fName.value.match("^[A-Z][A-Za-z]+( [A-Z][A-Za-z]*)*$")) { window.alert("You must enter your name."); addClass(fName, "errorDisp"); document.getElementById("fName").focus(); } else return true; } } function addClass(element, classToAdd) { var currentClassValue = element.className; if (currentClassValue.indexOf(classToAdd) == -1) { if ((currentClassValue == null) || (currentClassValue === "")) { element.className = classToAdd;
