  • Dynamic SQL and Funtions

    - by Unlimited071
Hi all, is there any way of accomplishing something like the following: CREATE FUNCTION GetQtyFromID ( @oricod varchar(15), @ccocod varchar(15), @ocmnum int, @oinnum int, @acmnum int, @acttip char(2), @unisim varchar(15) ) AS BEGIN DECLARE @Result decimal(18,8) DECLARE @SQLString nvarchar(max); DECLARE @ParmDefinition nvarchar(max); --I need to execute a query stored in a cell which returns the calculated qty. --i.e of AcuQry: select @cant = sum(smt) from table where oricod = @oricod and ... SELECT @SQLString = AcuQry FROM OinActUni WHERE (OriCod = @oricod) AND (ActTipCod = @acttip) AND (UniSim = @unisim) AND (AcuEst > 0) SET @ParmDefinition = N' @oricod varchar(15), @ccocod varchar(15), @ocmnum int, @oinnum int, @acmnum int, @cant decimal(18,8) output'; EXECUTE sp_executesql @SQLString, @ParmDefinition, @oricod = @oricod, @ccocod = @ccocod, @ocmnum = @ocmnum, @oinnum = @oinnum, @acmnum = @acmnum, @cant = @result OUTPUT; RETURN @Result END The problem with this approach is that it is prohibited to execute sp_excutesql in a function... What I need is to do something like: select id, getQtyFromID(id) as qty from table The main idea is to execute a query stored in a table cell, this is because the qty of something depends on it's unit. the unit can be days or it can be metric tons, so there is no relation between the units, therefore the need of a specific query for each unit.

  • Is it possible to inspect the contents of a Table Value Parameter via the debugger?

    - by Stephen Edmonds
Does anyone know if it is possible to use the Visual Studio / SQL Server Management Studio debugger to inspect the contents of a Table Value Parameter passed to a stored procedure? To give a trivial example: CREATE TYPE [dbo].[ControllerId] AS TABLE( [id] [nvarchar](max) NOT NULL ) GO CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[test] @controllerData [dbo].[ControllerId] READONLY AS BEGIN SELECT COUNT(*) FROM @controllerData; END DECLARE @SampleData as [dbo].[ControllerId]; INSERT INTO @SampleData ([id]) VALUES ('test'), ('test2'); exec [dbo].[test] @SampleData; Using the above with a break point on the exec statement, I am able to step into the stored procedure without any trouble. The debugger shows that the @controllerData local has a value of '(table)' but I have not found any tool that would allow me to actual view the rows that make up that table.

  • C#: ExecuteNonQuery() returns -1 when execute the stored procedure

    - by user1122359
    I'm trying to execute stored procedure in Visual Studio. Its given below. CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[addStudent] @stuName varchar(50), @address varchar(100), @tel varchar(15), @etel varchar(15), @nic varchar (10), @dob date AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; DECLARE @currentID INT DECLARE @existPerson INT SET @existPerson = (SELECT p_ID FROM Student WHERE s_NIC = @nic); IF @existPerson = null BEGIN INSERT INTO Person (p_Name, p_RegDate, p_Address, p_Tel, p_EmergeNo, p_Valid, p_Userlevel) VALUES (@stuName, GETDATE(), @address, @tel, @etel, 0, 'Student' ); SET @currentID = (SELECT MAX( p_ID) FROM Person); INSERT INTO Student (p_ID, s_Barcode, s_DOB, s_NIC) VALUES (@currentID , NULL, @dob, @nic); return 0; END ELSE return -1; END Im doing so by using this code below. SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(); Connect conn = new Connect(); con = conn.getConnected(); con.Open(); cmd = new SqlCommand("addStudent", con); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.Parameters.Add("@stuName", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = nameTxt.Text.ToString(); cmd.Parameters.Add("@address", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = addressTxt.Text.ToString(); cmd.Parameters.Add("@tel", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = telTxt.Text.ToString(); cmd.Parameters.Add("@etel", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = emerTxt.Text.ToString(); cmd.Parameters.Add("@nic", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = nicTxt.Text.ToString(); cmd.Parameters.Add("@dob", SqlDbType.DateTime).Value = dobTime.Value.ToString("MM-dd-yyyy"); int n = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); MessageBox.Show(n.ToString()); But it returns me -1. I tried this stored procedure by entering the same values I captured from debugging. It was successful. What can be the possible error? Thanks a lot!

  • Stored Procedure in postgresql, multiple queries w/ agreggates.

    - by fenix
I'm trying to write a store procedure that can take some input parameters (obviously), run multiple queries against those, taking the output from those and doing calculations, and from those calculations and the original queries, outputting a formatted text string like: Number of Rows for max(Z) matching condition x and y of total rows matching x (x&y/x*100). To explain the max(Z) bit, this will be the username field, it won't matter which actual entry is picked, because the where clause will filter the results by user id, is there a saner way to do this?

  • What is a good solution to log the deletion of a row in MySQL?

    - by hobodave
Background I am currently logging deletion of rows from my tickets table at the application level. When a user deletes a ticket the following SQL is executed: INSERT INTO alert_log (user_id, priority, priorityName, timestamp, message) VALUES (9, 4, 'WARN', NOW(), "TICKET: David A. deleted ticket #6 from Foo"); Please do not offer schema suggestions for the alert_log table. Fields: user_id - User id of the logged in user performing the deletion priority - Always 4 priorityName - Always 'WARN' timestamp - Always NOW() message - Format: "[NAMESPACE]: [FullName] deleted ticket #[TicketId] from [CompanyName]" NAMESPACE - Always TICKET FullName - Full name of user identified by user_id above TicketId - Primary key ID of the ticket being deleted CompanyName - Ticket has a Company via tickets.company_id Situation/Questions Obviously this solution does not work if a ticket is deleted manually from the mysql command line client. However, now I need to. The issues I'm having are as follows: Should I use a PROCEDURE, FUNCTION, or TRIGGER? -- Analysis: TRIGGER - I don't think this will work because I can't pass parameters to it, and it would trigger when my application deleted the row too. PROCEDURE or FUNCTION - Not sure. Should I return the number of deleted rows? If so, that would require a FUNCTION right? How should I account for the absence of a logged in user? -- Possibilities: Using either a PROC or FUNC, require the invoker to pass in a valid user_id Require the user to pass in a string with the name Use the CURRENT_USER - meh Hard code the FullName to just be "Database Administrator" Could the name be an optional parameter? I'm rather green when it comes to sprocs. Assuming I went with the PROC/FUNC approach, is it possible to outright restrict regular DELETE calls to this table, yet still allow users to call this PROC/FUNC to do the deletion for them? Ideally the solution is usable by my application as well, so that my code is DRY.

  • MYSQL variables - SET @var

    - by Lizard
I am attempting to create a mysql snippet that will analyse a table and remove duplicate entries (duplicates are based on two fields not entire record) I have the following code that works when I hard code the variables in the queries, but when I take them out and put them as variables I get mysql errors, below is the script SET @tblname = 'mytable'; SET @fieldname = 'myfield'; SET @concat1 = 'checkfield1'; SET @concat2 = 'checkfield2'; ALTER TABLE @tblname ADD `tmpcheck` VARCHAR( 255 ) NOT NULL; UPDATE @tblname SET `tmpcheck` = CONCAT(@concat1,'-',@concat2); CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE `tmp_table` ( `tmpfield` VARCHAR( 100 ) NOT NULL ) ENGINE = MYISAM ; INSERT INTO `tmp_table` (`tmpfield`) SELECT @fieldname FROM @tblname GROUP BY `tmpcheck` HAVING ( COUNT(`tmpcheck`) > 1 ); DELETE FROM @tblname WHERE @fieldname IN (SELECT `tmpfield` FROM `tmp_table`); ALTER TABLE @tblname DROP `tmpcheck`; I am getting the following error: #1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '@tblname ADD `tmpcheck` VARCHAR( 255 ) NOT NULL' at line 1 Is this because I can't use a variable for a table name? What else could be wrong or how wopuld I get around this issue. Thanks in adavnce

    - by dc2

  • Sorting results by a char(1) column

    - by Brandon
I have a stored procedure which basically does something like select top 1 expiryDate, flag, (bunch of other columns) from someTable (bunch of joins) order by expiryDate desc So this will grab the record that expires last. This works for most cases, except some records have a flag that are just a char(1). Most of the time it's just Y or N. So it'll return something like 2010-12-31 N 2010-10-05 Y 2010-08-05 N 2010-03-01 F 2010-01-31 N This works, most of the time, but is there any way to order it by the Flag column as well? So I'd want to group the results by Y, then N, and F and any other flags can go last in any order. I thought this would just be an order by, but since the flags are not weighted by the alphabetic value, I'm a little stumped. (Note: These are not my tables, I don't know if using the characters like this was a good idea or not, but it's not something I can change).

  • How to run stored procedure 1000 times

    - by subt13
I have a stored procedure that I'm using to populate a table with about 60 columns. I have genereated 1000 exec statements that look like this: exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 174, 213, 1, 0, 7365 exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 174, 214, 1, 0, 7365 exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 175, 213, 0, 0, 7365 Each time the stored procedure will be inserting anywhere from 1 to 3,000 records (usually around 2,000 records). The "server" is running desktop hardware with 4 gigs of available memory on a server OS. The problem I have is that after the first 10-15 executes of an average of 1-2 seconds each time, the next 10-15 seem to never finish. Am I doing this correctly? How should I do this? Thanks! • Displaying a message after adding duplicate records in database

    - by user1770370
I wrote program in C# winforms and SQL server and LINQ to SQL. I use user control instead of form. In my user control, I put 3 textbox, txtStartNumber, txtEndNumber, txtQuantity. user define value of textboxes, when clicked button, it will insert some records according to the value of txtQuantity. I want to when duplicate number is created, it won't add to database and display message. how do i do? I must write code in code behind or server side? i must set this in store procedure or trigger? private void btnSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { long from = Convert.ToInt64(txt_barcode_f.Text); long to = Convert.ToInt64(txt_barcode_t.Text); long quantity = Convert.ToInt64(to - from); int card_Type_ID=Convert.ToInt32(cmb_BracodeType .SelectedValue); long[] arrCardNum = new long[(to - from)]; arrCardNum[0]=from; for (long i = from; i < to; i++) { for(int j=0; j<(to-from) ;j++) { arrCardNum[j]=from+j; string r = arrCardNum[j].ToString(); sp.SaveCards(r, 2, card_Type_ID, SaveDate, 2); } } } Stored Procedure code. • How to define a current user?

    - by ie
Is it possible to define a current user? I found a stored procedure 'sp_mgGetConnectedUsers'. It returns a result set with the only unique field 'Address'. How could I associate an executing query with such 'Address'. Please advice. Note: As far as I understand, another way to get the current user is to set a unique application Id for each connection, but I don't like this way much.

  • Problems while trying to make a query with variables in the conditions (stored procedure)

    - by pablo89
Hi!! Im having a problem, Im trying to do a query... I remember that in the past I did something like this but today this query is returning nothing, no error, no data, just nothing... the query is something like this: SELECT field1, @variableX:=field2 FROM table WHERE (SELECT COUNT(fieldA) FROM table2 WHERE fieldB=@variableX AND fieldC=0)0 AND (SELECT COUNT(fieldA) FROM table2 WHERE fieldB=@variableX AND fieldC=4)=0; I also tried this query but it didnt work (also it gaves no error): SELECT field1, @variableX:=field2, @variableY:=(SELECT COUNT(fieldA) FROM table2 WHERE fieldB=@variableX AND fieldC=0), @variableZ:=(SELECT COUNT(fieldA) FROM table2 WHERE fieldB=@variableX AND fieldC=4) FROM table WHERE @variableY0 AND @variableZ=0; As you can see, what Im trying to do in the 1st query is use a variable in the conditions; in the 2nd query Im trying to create some variables and evaluate them in the conditions. At the end in the 2nd query the @variableY=1 AND @variableZ=0 but I dont know what the query returns an empty data What could be wrong here??? Any comment or suggest is welcome!!! thanks!!! Bye!!!

Lets say I have a SP that has a SELECT statements as follows, SELECT product_id, product_price FROM product WHERE product_type IN ('AA','BB','CC'); But data goes to that IN clause must be through a single variable that contains the string of values. Something link below SELECT product_id, product_price FROM product WHERE product_type IN (input_variables); But its not working that way. Any idea how to do this?

  • Is this overkill? Using MDX queries and cubes instead of SQL stored procedures

    - by Jason Holland
I am new to Microsoft's SQL Server Analysis Services Cubes and MDX queries. Where I work we have a daily sales table in SQL Server 2005 that already contains an aggregate of sale information per store per day. At this time it contains only 164,000+ rows. We have a sales cube dedicated to this table that about 15 reports are based off of. Now, I should also note that we generate reports based on our own fiscal year criteria: a 13 period year (1 month equals 28 days etc.). Is this overkill? At what point is it justified to begin using SSAS Cubes/MDX over plain old SQL Server stored procedures? Since I have always been just using plain old SQL am I tragically late to the MDX party?

  • Where in the stack is Software Restriction Policies implemented?

    - by Knox
I am a big fan of Software Restriction Policies for Microsoft Windows and was recently updating our settings for this. I became curious as to where Microsoft implemented this technology in the stack. I can imagine a very naive implementation being in Windows Explorer where when you double click on an exe or other blocked file type, that Explorer would check against the policy. I call this naive because obviously this wouldn't protect against someone typing something in a CMD window. Or worse, Adobe Reader running an external application. On the other hand, I can imagine that software restriction policies could be implemented deep in the stack almost at the metal. In this case, the low level loader would load into memory the questionable file, but mark the memory in the memory manager as non-executable data. I'm pretty sure that Microsoft did not do the most naive implementation, because if I block Java using a path block, Internet Explorer will crash if it attempts to load Java. Which is what I want. But I'm not sure how deep in the stack it's implemented and any insight would be appreciated.
