  • update-grub2 not finding windows7 partition..

    I have Ubuntu10.10 x64 and after installing Windows 7 grub dissapear I log on with my usb to reinstall grub and now grub only shows Ubuntu... Then when I try to do update-grub2 I get this: root@Alienware:~# sudo update-grub2 Generating grub.cfg ... Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.35-22-generic Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin ls: no se puede acceder a /var/lib/os-prober/mount/boot Boot: No existe el fichero o el directorio done root@Alienware:~# It is in spanish but it says it cant get access to /var/lib/os-prober/mount/boot and that Boot: dosent exist.. I dont know what I am doing wrong can someone help me please?

  • Screen cuts off part of GRUB on boot

    I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my Windows 7 desktop computer (on a seperate partition) Everything has gone smoothly except when I restart the computer and GRUB's loader screen shows, part of the screen gets cut off.. but once ive selected a boot option and hit enter, the screen readjusts to fill the entire monitor properly. So my question is, is there a way I can correct this ? Kind of annoying not being able to see the full boot option

    I have this problem after damage I think hit the OS GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3 Minimal bash-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. I read the thread that was posted before but I don't have an ubuntu cd because I used "windows installer" ..... please don't tell me to uninstall it and install it again because I have important files and I don't want to lose. please help

    I previously installed Ubuntu on a computer that had Windows XP on it and got it successfully to run alongside it. (access both OS systems) Now I installed Ubuntu again on my MSI notebook with Windows 8.1, and I cannot access the GRUB without hitting escape on startup, and even then, I can no longer open windows. Before all of this, I created a recovery point, file history and saved a back up on a external hard drive incase I did anything wrong. Now how can I revert my computer back to it's state before installation.

  • Workaround for starting zabbix agent on Ubuntu. update-rc.d LSB mismatch

    I am trying to run the zabbix-agent (1.8.1) on boot on Ubuntu (lucid 10.04). Zabbix is installed just fine, and it manually starts just fine with /etc/init.d/zabbix-agent start However it doesn't start on boot, because when I run: sudo update-rc.d zabbix-agent default I get: update-rc.d: warning: zabbix-agent start runlevel arguments (none) do not match LSB Default-Start values (2 3 4 5) update-rc.d: warning: zabbix-agent stop runlevel arguments (none) do not match LSB Default-Stop values (0 1 6) After googling around I found some cryptic information about this being a possible bug with Zabbix's startup scripts, but I can't find a workaround. I'm trying to understand how the update-rc.d system works, but I'm not getting very far. How can I modify this setup to start the zabbix-agent on startup?

Is my operating system maybe to old for Java 1.6? i'm not sure what i'm running exactly, and i can't find a list of what mac operating systems run what versions of Java because the java site just suggests using Mac's software update.

    On my Windows 7 I set windows update to "download updates, but let me choose whether to install them". The problem is I don't get a notification when an optional update is available like definition updates for microsoft security essentials. I have "give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" checked, but I have no notification balloon or icon when there is a new optional update is available. From time to time I open Windows update and then I see I have new optional updates available. How to get notifications for those too?

My problem now is that I would like to offer to users a function to update an existing record in SQL. As each row on this table has a unique id columne. As I set ClientId as the id column for this table, I am getting TooManyRowsAffectedException. could you please let me know how to set a composite key at mapping level so that NHibernate can udpate based on ClientId and Type.   • removed ati proprietary driver, tried to hibernate, destroyed ubuntu installation. help?

    I totally ruined my Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop x64 installation today. I've never been able to hibernate or suspend (not with my laptop, server or htpc), not even through this guide. So I read a post here on askubuntu.com that said that the proprietary drivers may be in the way for it to work. Therefore I removed my ATI-drivers, rebooted, then tried to hibernate the system. I got some error about "blk_something_something didn't work, resubmitting1". So I turned off the computer and then tried booting up. I see the ubuntu splash but after that I'm greeted with this screen: The upper dot is the mouse pointer since I can move it with the mouse (I have ubuntu set to login automatically). I don't know how this happened. What can I do to fix this? I'm getting seriously irritated over how buggy ubuntu is, why doesn't even suspend/hibernate work (remember that I have 3 different systems where it fails)? So what is the next step? I want to get into cli mode and reinstall the driver but since I'm relatively new to ubuntu I don't know how to get into a terminal without logging in first. And if I press shift during boot I can't get into grub either and try something from there. Please come with all suggestions you can think of! Thank you very much! edit: Can I use ubuntu on a usb to insert the driver I need - if that is the problem?

INSERT INTO t1 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = val2; If the above query causes an insert then I need to run the following statement on the second table: 2. INSERT INTO t2 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = col2 + val2; otherwise, 3. UPDATE t2 SET col2 = col2 - old_val2 + val2 WHERE col1 = val1; -- old_val2 is the value of t1.col2 before it was updated Right now I run a SELECT on t1 first, to determine whether statement 1 will cause an insert or update on t1. Then I run statement 1 and either of 2 and 3 inside a transaction. What are the ways in which I can do all of these inside one transaction itself? The approach I was thinking of is the following: UPDATE t2, t1 set t2.col2 = t2.col2 - t1.col2 WHERE t1.col1 = t2.col2 and t1.col1 = val1; INSERT INTO t1 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = val2; INSERT INTO t2, t1 (t2.col1, t2.col2) VALUES (t1.col1, t1.col2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE t2.col2 = t2.col2 + t1.col2 WHERE t1.col1 = t2.col2 and t1.col1 = val1; Unfortunately, there's no multi-table INSERT... By drag 'n drop, he should be able to move apples so that it appears at the top of the list.. itemname| order value (int) --------+--------------------- apples | 4 salad | 1 mango | 2 orange | 3 Ok. So now internally I have to update EVERY LIST ITEM! If the list has 20 or 100 items, that's a lot of updates for a simple drag operation. itemname| order value (int) --------+--------------------- apples | 1 salad | 2 mango | 3 orange | 4 I'd rather do it with only one update. One way I thought of is if "internal Order" is a double value. itemname| order value (double) --------+--------------------- salad | 1.0 mango | 2.0 orange | 3.0 apples | 4.0 SO after the drag n' drop operation, I assign apples has a value that is less than the item it is to appear in front of: itemname| order value (double) --------+--------------------- apples | 0.5 salad | 1.0 mango | 2.0 orange | 3.0 .. and if an item is dragged into the middle somewhere, its order_value is bigger than the one it appears after .. here I moved orange to be between salad and mango: itemname| order value (double) --------+--------------------- apples | 0.5 salad | 1.0 orange | 1.5 mango | 2.0 Any thoughts on better ways to do this?

    I've a collection of Stock objects that I'm updating about 10/15 variables for in real-time. I'm accessing each Stock by its ID in the collection. I'm also trying to display this in a JTable and have implemented an AbstractTablemodel. It's not working too well. I've a RowMap that I add each ID to as Stocks are added to the TableModel. To update the prices and variables of all the stocks in the TableModel, I want to send a Stock object to an updateModel(Stock s) method. I can find the relevant row by searching the map, but how do I handle this nicely, so I don't have to start iterating through table columns and comparing the values of the cells to the variables of the object to see whether there are any differences?? Basically, i want to send a Stock object to the TableModel and update cells if there are changes and do nothing if there aren't. Any ideas about how to implement a TableModel that might do this? Any pointeres at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Got blue screen with a warning that I boot loader may not be properly configured, workaround?

    After running sudo apt-get update got this message: Configuring grub-pc You chose not to install GRUB to any devices. If you continue, the boot loader may not be properly configured, and when your computer next starts up it will use whatever was previously in the boot sector. If there is an earlier version of GRUB 2 in the boot sector, it may be unable to load modules or handle the current configuration file. If you are already running a different boot loader and want to carry on doing so, or if this is a special environment where you do not need a boot loader, then you should continue anyway. Otherwise, you should install GRUB somewhere. Continue without installing GRUB? <Yes> <No> Apparently there is a bug in ubuntu 10.04. But this hang the system. Any ideas on how to fix this? All I wanted was to install gcc that is missing.

  • How do I install GRUB on a RAID system installation?

    I'm trying to setup and install Ubuntu on a RAID 1 setup. I have two disks, sdb and sdc. I've been following this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SoftwareRAID which more or less works for getting everything set up and Ubuntu installed. The problem is at the end of the installation, it tries to install GRUB. By default it tries my "first disk", which gives a "fatal error". I've tried installing it on a specific partion, e.g. sdb1 as well as RAID devices, e.g. md0, md1, etc.. Nothing seems to work. Edit: The actual error is "Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sdb Executing 'grub-install '/dev/sdb' failed. This is a fatal error." Then I'm taken back to the main install menu. If I choose "Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk" option, I can pick the partition, but entering sdb2 or md1 gives the same error. So I went ahead an just didn't install GRUB, which means now I presumably have a working Ubuntu installation, but I can't boot it. I've tried booting from the LiveCD to install GRUB, but I can't chroot into my system because it doesn't seem to recognize that my disk is a Linux disk. There's an error about it being a RAID partition. So basically I would really like to know how you know to which device to install GRUB at installation, or at the very least, how to install it on to my system now. I suppose I should also mention that sda is a Windows 7 installation that I would like to keep around and be able to access at boot. Thanks for any help.

  • Grub Rescue Unknown Filesystem Error. Grub Corrupted or Filesystem?

    Now it has happened twice & have been pulling my hairs now... I have installed xubuntu on my external hardisk & have been using it for about 3 months. It has three partitions, one of 500 mb mounted at /boot, 2nd one of 48gb mounted at / & the rest (out of 160gb) is ntfs partition....used as normal external storage. The last storage supposedly acts as a buffer b/w Linux distributions & Win platform, buffer in the sense that it provides a universal channel for data transfers. I have constantly used this external hardisk for data transfers b/w win7 laptop & xubuntu (on this external hd) without any hassle. However, on of my desktops where I have ubuntu I (for the first time) attached this external drive which let me do data transfers where all three partitions properly mounted....but then nasty thing occurred the same that occurred before. I (as usual) tried booting via this external hd (one having xubuntu, one having being formerly used under Ubuntu) I got error Now I am totally devastated because similar thing happened ~6months before when I had fedora 17 in my external hd (instead of xubuntu) & after it was used under ubuntu the same happened...i didn't reported it because I already had planned towards debian instead of rpm! The mystery is that as long as I don't attach this external hd under ubuntu the data never** corrupts whereas under win xp/7 I can use it as a normal usb storage of coarse linux partitions aren’t available under win platforms... **From corrupts I mean hd fails to boot with the error mentioned however cant say whether data within remains untouched? It seems that my grub & or MBR is corrupted.   • Dual boot nt4 and windows 98

    I am trying to dual boot nt4 and windows 98 se (don't laugh - old computer). I have seen Microsoft's instructions for doing this, but it limits windows 98 to have a Fat16 partition (NT4's NTLDR doesn't understand FAT32) and therefore only 2GB of disk space. I really need it to have more than that. I started with Win 98 (on the 1st partition), repartitioned the disk, then added NT4 on the 2nd partition. NT4 took over the bootloader (as expected), so NT4 boots, but Win 98 doesn't. Right now I am working in VMWare so I can use nonpersistent hard drives (IDE like the real computer) to recover from errors easily. I've tried using XPs NTLDR using the instructions here: http://www.nu2.nu/fixnt4/ , but I got weird errors from NT4 and it never really worked. If XP's NTLDR would work, that should be able to boot both OSes. I've also tried using GRUB. In theory that should work. In fact when booting from super grub disk, it does. But as soon as I install grub to disk, Win 98 boots, but NT 4 blue screens at boot with a 0x0000007b inaccessible_boot_device error (that can be alot of things see MS kb 822051). The incantation I'm using for GRUB 1 is rootnoverify (hd0,1) makeactive chainloader +1 boot So, anybody have some suggestions?
