  hi im developing a simple search application( ASP.Net VB.Net) the index table is actually a hash table ll be stored in my file system. the search page ll open this in read mode n copy this to a hash table object n perform search. other update n delete functions will open this in write mode n update it. what should i ve to do to make this app correct that there shud not be any execption when multiple user accessing these things at the same time. wat do i ve to do to make this robust and error free. i want multiple users to access search page without any problem n the index updation also in a parallel manner thanks srinivasan

  I wouldn't ask if i wasn't sure that i have 100% no idea why this isn't working, so, in PHP i'm simply trying to update a value in the MySQL database: The field im updating - Name: read - Type: tinyint - Length: 1 Here is the PHP code: do_SQL("UPDATE messages SET read=1 WHERE id='".$id."'"); The do_SQL function is working for everything else, so it's something wrong with this statement.   Hi there, In my database I have a lot of users who've misspelled their e-mail address. This in turn causes my postfix to bounce a lot of mails when sending the newsletter. Forms include (but are not limited to) "yaho.com", "yahho .com" etc. Very annoying! So i have been trying to update those record to the correct value. After executing select email from users where email like '%@yaho%' and email not like '%yahoo%'; and getting the list, I'm stuck because I do not know how to update only the yaho part. I need the username to be left intact. So I thought I would just dump the database and use vim to replace, but I cannot escape the @ symbol.. BTW, how do I select all email addresses written in CAPS? select upper(email) from users; would just transform everything into CAPS, whereas I just needed to find out the already-written-in-CAPS mails.

Now, I wonder if it would be possible for a Ruby application to update itself on-the-fly (if the write permission allows it). Can a Ruby application fetch an update and refresh itself?   I have a ListView displays information about an object. When I click a ListView Item, I open an Activity that let's me manipulate parameters of the object held in the adapter. These parameters are updated and stored remotely. When I return to the ListView (via the back button), I want to update the ListView Item that I clicked originally by requesting the parameter values from the remote server. I am currently doing this up updating the entire ListView by clearing it and rebuilding it. How do I reference the ListView Item so that I can update the data for that item only? Thanks, Jason

  Here's what I have. User enters values into text boxes (personal information etc.) and then presses a save changes button. The values in these text boxes get stored in an SQL database. The problem I have is that when updating the database using the values from the text boxes, the page refreshes and the values in the text boxes are lost (or rather they return to the values that are already in the database as the data from the database is loaded into the text boxes on Page_Load). When I update the database using valuse stored in variables it all works fine. What is the best way to update with the values from the text boxes?

  i want to normalize date fields from an old badly designed db dump. i now need to update every row, where the datefield only contains the year. update table set date = '01.01.' + date where date like '____' and isnumeric(date) = 1 and date >= 1950 but this will not work, because sql does not do short circuit evaluation of boolean expressions. thus i get an error "error converting nvarchar '01.07.1989' to int" is there a way to work around this? the column also contains strings with a length of 4, which are not numbers (????, 5/96, 70/8, etc.) the table only has 60000 rows

  Hi, I have two tables. they looks like as follows: Id (int) Tags char(128). the column Tags in table A does not have value. It is empty. The column Tags in table B has value. What I want to copy the Tags in table B to corresponding place of table A. the mapping is based on Id. My sql query is: update A INNER JOIN B set A.Tags = B.Tags where A.Id = B.Id There are about 2,000,000 rows in table A, and 50,000 rows in table B. The update seems very slow.... Could anyone tell me how to make it run faster?

With both DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP and ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP clauses, the column has the current timestamp for its default value, and is automatically updated. What I am looking for is to have a date/time field and every time I update a record it updates the field with the date/time it was updated automatically?   Today, i installed ubuntu along with my preinstalled windows8 on Lenovo Y580. At the end of installation this messasge popped up saying that Grub installation failed. After this i installed Easy BCD ( http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/ i use this also on my PC where i use win7 with Ubuntu). The problem i got is - because of choosing installation along with win8 i dont know where ubuntu is installed so i cant boot it even when using Easy BCD. What should i do now? Lucia

  I'm currently using ubuntu 12.04 which has grub2 and wanted to install windows 8 from my USB, i also created a bootable usb flash drive using windows 7 dvd download tool, the problem is - I formatted my hard drive and whenever i try to boot from the flash drive i get an error "error: unknown filesystem" and gives grub rescue prompt, since my dvd drive is not working the only way for me to install win8 is from USB,can anybody help me with this?

  I have windows8 and ubuntu 13.10 installed on my laptop in dual-boot mode.While updating the disk management system my pc got hanged and on restarting it have grub rescue mode prompting on the screen.I tried ls (hd0,msdos_) all the commands but it shows 'unknown file system".i tried booting with ubuntu,boot-repair,superboot live cd but it shows "Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!" and hangs on the screen with two blinking lights.please suggest some help as soon as possible thanks in advance

  i have a pc with a grub error {caused by deleting ubuntu partition in XP dual boot} i would like to format the hard disk and install a new OS [chromium] i do not have either the ubuntu or the XP installation drives although i do have the chromium bootable drive when i try to boot from the chrome bootable USB its says "your system is repairing itself" and restarts. this keeps happening over and over again. i just want to format my HDD completely and start over with chromium (i have no important data on the HDD)

  I've uninstalled Linux Mint 13 today from my netbook. The netbook was running Windows XP and Linux Mint on dual boot. I've deleted the Linux's partition and now whenever I turn on the computer I get "Partitation not found" grub error... I have no CD drive so I can't insert any repair CDs or XP CD. I'm currently hopeless. And now I can't even load Linux Mint from my USB drive... Can someone help me?
