  • How do I define the default background color for window instances in a shared ResourceDictionary?

    - by Nicholas
I can't seem to set a default background color for all of my windows in my application. Does anyone know how to do this? Currently I'm setting a theme in my App.xaml file like this. <Application> <Application.Resources> <ResourceDictionary Source="Themes/SomeTheme.xaml" /> This basically styles my entire application. Inside of SomeTheme.xaml I am trying to set a default color for all of my windows like this. <Style TargetType="{x:Type Window}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource MainColor}" /> </Style> This syntax works on a type of Button, but is completely ignored for Window. What am I doing wrong? Is there something special I have to do for a Window type.

  • Performance problem loading lots of user controls

    - by codymanix
My application is loading a bunch of the same user control into a ScrollPanel. The problem is, this is very slow. The profiler show that the method Application.LoadComponent(), which is called internally by in the designer code in the constructor of my user control, is the bottleneck. The documentation of this method says, that this method load XAML files. I alway though the compiler compiles XAML to BAML and embedds it into the assembly. So the question is, how can I use BAML instead of XAML? Is there another way to make loading my user controls faster?

  • Secondary monitor bug: a problem in WPF or in the graphics driver?

    - by emddudley
    I have discovered a strange bug with my WPF application and I am trying to determine whether it is a problem with WPF or my graphics driver so that I can report it to the appropriate company. I have a Quadro FX 1700 with the latest drivers (197.54) on a Windows XP system, running a .NET 3.5 SP1 application. I have dual monitors, and when I maximize then minimize a child window of the main window on my primary monitor, the child window gets drawn on the secondary monitor as well. It appears in both places. I made a sample application (code is below) which induces this behavior. Start the application and ensure the main window is on your primary monitor. Double-click the main window. A green child window should appear. Click the green child window to maximize. Click the green child window to minimize. Can anyone else reproduce this problem? On my system the green child restores, but then it's drawn on both my primary and secondary monitors, rather than just the primary monitor. App.xaml <Application xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="DualMonitorBug.App" StartupUri="Shell.xaml" /> App.xaml.cs using System.Windows; namespace DualMonitorBug { public partial class App : Application { } } Shell.xaml <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="DualMonitorBug.Shell" Title="Shell" Height="480" Width="640" MouseDoubleClick="ShowDialog" /> Shell.xaml.cs using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Input; namespace DualMonitorBug { public partial class Shell : Window { public Shell() { InitializeComponent(); } private void ShowDialog(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { DialogWindow dialog = new DialogWindow(); dialog.Owner = this; dialog.Show(); } } } DialogWindow.xaml <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="DualMonitorBug.DialogWindow" Title="Dialog Window" Height="240" Width="320" AllowsTransparency="True" Background="Green" MouseLeftButtonDown="ShowHideDialog" WindowStyle="None" /> DialogWindow.xaml.cs using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Input; namespace DualMonitorBug { public partial class DialogWindow : Window { public DialogWindow() { InitializeComponent(); } private void ShowHideDialog(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { this.WindowState = (this.WindowState == WindowState.Normal) ? WindowState.Maximized : WindowState.Normal; } } }

  • Learning WPF GUI design

    - by Jon
GUI's written using WPF seem to be closer to a Web 2.0 feel than older Winforms development has been; do you know of any good quality references online or books which give a general overview of how to design nice WPF applications? I saw this StackOverflow question where some GUI design books are mentioned, but am interested in information specifically for WPF. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1193001/is-wpf-silverlight-design-worth-learning Thanks!

  • WPF Applications Size Vs Winforms App Size

    - by jmayor
Does WPF compiled code is bigger or smaller than Winform compiled code? Does WPF generates more code behind that Winform does? I have a Winform App and I want to make a new version on WPF. Customers get the updates of this app by dowloading it. So my question is, If I make the application now on WPF just using the same screens how bigger can it be the compiled solution compared to the WinForm version.

  • secondary y axis on WPF toolkit chart

    - by tk
Question 1) I want to plot two line series in a WPF toolkit chart. (http://wpf.codeplex.com/) Can I set Y-axis of one data series as a secondary y-axis? Question 2) Is there a comprehensive document about the WPF toolkit chart? I used to use WinForms Chart control(System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization), which have great references. But I cannot find a library document for WPF toolkit.

  • WPF ObservableCollection in xaml

    - by Cloverness
Hi, I have created an ObservableCollection in the code behind of a user control. It is created when the window loads: private void UserControl_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Entities db = new Entities(); ObservableCollection<Image> _imageCollection = new ObservableCollection<Image>(); IEnumerable<library> libraryQuery = from c in db.ElectricalLibraries select c; foreach (ElectricalLibrary c in libraryQuery) { Image finalImage = new Image(); finalImage.Width = 80; BitmapImage logo = new BitmapImage(); logo.BeginInit(); logo.UriSource = new Uri(c.url); logo.EndInit(); finalImage.Source = logo; _imageCollection.Add(finalImage); } } I need to get the ObservableCollection of images which are created based on the url saved in a database. But I need a ListView or other ItemsControl to bind to it in XAML file like this: But I can't figure it out how to pass the ObservableCollection to the ItemsSource of that control. I tried to create a class and then create an instance of a class in xaml file but it did not work. Should I create a static resource somehow Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Moving from building internal applications as WPF to ASP NET MVC?

    - by stuartmclark
I have worked on quite a few internal applications for my work and I have always defaulted to using WPF, but I am considering re-writing existing ones into a web app. This is so that anyone in my company can use it without having to download anything from the network. I am just wondering if this is the way forward with any development of new internal applications? So, should I stop using WPF and start using ASP.NET MVC for internal applications that a lot of people need to use?

  • XAML: make a ScrollViewer show scrollbars when the ScaleTransform of a child object gets big

    - by skb
Hi. I am making a sort of "print preview" control for some documents in my Silverlight 3 application. I have a Canvas (for showing the document) inside of a ScrollViewer, and I have zoom in / zoom out buttons that control the X and Y Scale properties of the ScaleTransform for the Canvas.RenderTransform property. I want the scrollbars of the ScrollViewer to show up when I "zoom in" enough such that the canvas is no longer visible in the ScrollViewer area, but it seems that they only show up depending on the Width/Height of the Canvas itself, regardless of whether it is zoomed in or not. Can anyone help?

  • Is there a measurestring equivalent in Silverlight xaml?

    - by Roy
What I am trying to accomplish: Create a dynamic bubble that expands on height and width depending on the text in the bubble. What I researched so far: In an so article they described the measurestring to figure out the exact width or height so dynamic changes in the .cs to the width and height can be accomplished. Is there something like this in Silverlight? Is my only option to utilize the myTxt.Text.length and then change the myGrid.height and myGrid.width to leave wasted space to accommodate all cases?

  • Why isn't TextBox.Text in WPF animatable?

    - by cplotts
Ok, I have just run into something that is really catching me off-guard. I was helping a fellow developer with a couple of unrelated questions and in his project he was animating text into some TextBlock(s). So, I went back to my desk and recreated the project (in order to answer his questions), but I accidentally used TextBox instead of TextBlock. My text wasn't animating at all! (A lot of help, I was!) Eventually, I figured out that his xaml was using TextBlock and mine was using TextBox. What is interesting, is that Blend wasn't creating key frames when I was using TextBox. So, I got it to work in Blend using TextBlock(s) and then modified the xaml by hand, converting the TextBlock(s) into TextBox(es). When I ran the project, I got the following error: InvalidOperationException: '(0)' Storyboard.TargetProperty path contains nonanimatable property 'Text'. Well, it seems as if Blend was smart enough to know that ... and not generate the key frames in the animation (it would just modify the value directly on the TextBox). +1 for Blend. So, the question became: why isn't TextBox.Text animatable? The usual answer is that the particular property you are animating isn't a DependencyProperty. But, this isn't the case, TextBox.Text is a DependencyProperty. So, now I am bewildered! Why can't you animate TextBox.Text? Let me include some xaml to illustrate the problem. The following xaml works ... but uses TextBlock(s). <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="TextBoxTextQuestion.MainWindow" x:Name="Window" Title="MainWindow" Width="640" Height="480" > <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="animateTextStoryboard"> <StringAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="(TextBlock.Text)" Storyboard.TargetName="textControl"> <DiscreteStringKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:1" Value="Goodbye"/> </StringAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Window.Triggers> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="FrameworkElement.Loaded"> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource animateTextStoryboard}"/> </EventTrigger> </Window.Triggers> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"> <TextBlock x:Name="textControl" Text="Hello" FontFamily="Calibri" FontSize="32"/> <TextBlock Text="World!" Margin="0,25,0,0" FontFamily="Calibri" FontSize="32"/> </StackPanel> </Grid> </Window> The following xaml does not work and uses TextBox.Text: <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="TextBoxTextQuestion.MainWindow" x:Name="Window" Title="MainWindow" Width="640" Height="480" > <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="animateTextStoryboard"> <StringAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="(TextBox.Text)" Storyboard.TargetName="textControl"> <DiscreteStringKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:1" Value="Goodbye"/> </StringAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Window.Triggers> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="FrameworkElement.Loaded"> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource animateTextStoryboard}"/> </EventTrigger> </Window.Triggers> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"> <TextBox x:Name="textControl" Text="Hello" FontFamily="Calibri" FontSize="32"/> <TextBox Text="World!" Margin="0,25,0,0" FontFamily="Calibri" FontSize="32"/> </StackPanel> </Grid> </Window>

  • Current Date in Silverlight XAML TextBlock

    - by user292110
I am coming from Flex where you can do just about anything inside of curly braces. I am trying to get a TextBlock to display today's Date and Time without just coding it in C#. I have tried many different variations of the following with no luck. TextBlock Text="{Source=Date, Path=Now, StringFormat='dd/MM/yyyy'}" I know I could probably just set a property MyDate and bind to that but why can't I bind directly to the DateTime. Now property?

Basically I would like the value of the first item in the combo box be {x:Null}. <ComboBox Grid.Row="9" Grid.Column="1" SelectedValue="{Binding Priority}"> <clr:Int16></clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>1</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>2</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>3</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>4</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>5</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>6</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>7</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>8</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>9</clr:Int16> <clr:Int16>10</clr:Int16> </ComboBox> Any Suggestions?

  • iterating resourcedictionary xaml file

    - by Sdry
I am trying to display an amount of colorpicker controls depending on an amount of colors in a xamnl resourcedictionary file. For some reason I can't figure out the right way to do this. When loading it in through a XAMLReader to a ResourcesDictionary Object, I m not sure what is the best way to iterate over it. I had first tried to handle it as xml, using XDocument.Elements() which gave an empty IEnumerable when trying to get al the elements. What is the best way to do this ?

  • XAML-based applications - Event Naming Conventions for C#

    - by user118190
For event handling, I am starting to see many coders doing this: XButton.Click += OnXButtonClicked() ... void OnXButtonClicked() { ... } Where did this On_ convention come from? It just doesn't feel right in terms of methods. I am starting to see this as well and am wondering what others thought: XButton.Click += HandleXButtonClick() ... void HandleXButtonClick() { ... } When using intellisense, Visual Studio handles these like so: XButton.Click += XButton_Click; ... void XButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { ... } I am seeking some advice on these naming conventions and would greatly appreciate some advice.
