  Hi, how do I configure an Eclipse RCP command style menu to match the different menu structures on Windows and on Mac OS? Mac OS X menu example http://images.apple.com/macosx/refinements/images/services_menu_20090902.jpg Windows menu example http://www.flamingpear.com/images/psp8menu.gif In the example you see, the differences in the menu structures. For example has the Mac in its application menu the preference command, the about command and the exit command. These are under Windows usally in the file menu and the about command is found in the help menu. Is there a "standard" way of doing it with RCP programs? It should somehow be possible because Eclipse itself does it. But I can not figure out how.

I know EPS aren't a standard web format but they are embedded into a PDF using a bit of ABCpdf magic. • Automating custom field creation in Redmine

  I want to write a plugin for redmine that will depend on quite a few custom fields, so I would like to create the custom fields automatically. Ideally within the plugin code, or if not by a script I can run when I install the plugin - I really don't want to have to create 10+ fields through the web interface when I set this up, especially when one is a list with quite a few values. Can anyone tell me if there are standard ways of doing this? Also is there a good way to export the custom fields from an existing installation?

There are no standard control from the API and the box is smart enough to resize when you press enter OR when the text is too long. Also the bar resizes with it. How is this done with the least coding? 2) How to code it such that when the keyboard shows up the whole view shifts up? Typically when the keyboard shows, it goes over your current view.

  I'm launching a new site soon and would like to use one nice font (for headings etc). I've experimented with scripts like cufon and find them very disappointing. The way I see it I have to legal options: create my own font stacks using fonts that are licensed for @font-face (like fontsquirrel) subscribe to typekit use standard font stacks including some of MS Office's nicer fonts (not keen on!) I'm looking for comments from someone with experience here, not speculation please (i can do that myself!). Has anyone used typekit? Have you noticed any performance issues?

• Create a polynomial object from a number using change-class

  I have written a polynomial class along the lines described in SICP 2.5.3 (except using defclass). I would like to be able to seamlessly add and multiply polynomials and regular numbers but I can't make change-class accept a number. I tried to simplify the problem by changing class from an integer to a float: (change-class 4 'float) but that gave me the error: There is no applicable method for the generic function #<STANDARD-GENERIC-FUNCTION CHANGE-CLASS (7)> when called with arguments (4 #<BUILT-IN-CLASS FLOAT>). [Condition of type SIMPLE-ERROR] I get an error of the same form from (fyi): (change-class 4 'polynomial) I'm going to go ahead and implement a manual conversion but I would prefer to use the built-in clos facilities.

  Hey folks, I've been told that I can only record streams with flash media interactive server. I already have Flash media streaming server running to stream flvs. it would seem to be trivial to set up the interactive server, and adobe obliges me by having a developer download. however, once I extracted that download, it appears to contain just standard flash media streaming server? is adobe screwing with me? the more I look into this the more it seems that nobody is actually differentiating between the two except adobe (who charge $1000 for fms, and $4000 for fmis).

• GpsSatellite.getSnr() - What is the value range?

  I'm building a Sat-View that draws a small bar-chart for available satellites and their signal strength (or better: their signal-to-noise-ratio / SNR). The javadoc doesn't say what value-range to expect for the SNR. The NMEA-Standard says 0-99, but even in best conditions my G1 doesn't reach that value. I also read that different manufacturers use different value-ranges for the SNR, so is that true for android-devices, too? Or is there a unified value range on that plattform and if so, what is it? The lack of information in the docs leads me to suspect I just get the "raw" SNR from the driver, in which case I'd like to know: What do you think is the best approach to visualize that unknown value-range in a bar-chart?

  Most IBM (and some Dell) laptops have built-in accelerometers to stop any moving parts during a sudden fall, but I was unable to find a standardised Windows API to access this data. I assume that each manufacturer would provide a driver to interface with the sensor. Which popular laptop brands come standard with accelerometers accessible from an API and which libraries should I use to access the data? Does an API* exist to abstract away the differences between different manufacturers? I am aware of the Windows 7 Sensor API, but I would like support for XP and earlier.

• How to highlight clicks in app widget?

  Hi everyone, I have an app widget which runs neatly. However, I am unable to highlight a click on a linked item. I've seen it in the standard app widgets like 'Music' and 'Power Control', for instance. Moreover, I've also been studying the Music app widget's source at album_appwidget.xml. The only thing I could think of is the LinearLayout defined at lines 23-35 which states android:clickable="true" Unfortunately, this does not work for me. So does anyone have a hint on how to highlight a click on an app widget? I've tried the LinearLayout, TextView and Button. None of them displayed a border as a highlight. Thanks in advance, Steff

Is this understanding all right? Q2. About COM My naive understanding is that: a COM DLL seems to be just a new logical way to organize the functions and types exported by a standard Windows DLL. A COM DLL exports both functions such as DllRegisterServer() and DllGetClassObject(), and also the Classes which implements the IUnknown interface. Is this understanding all right? Q3. *.def & *.idl *.def is used to define the functions exported by a Windows DLL in the traditional way, such as DllGetClassObject(). *.idl is used to define the interface implemented by a COM coclass. That made me wonder... int foo() { return 5; } const int bar() { return 5; } void pass_int(int&& i) { std::cout << "rvalue\n"; } void pass_int(const int&& i) { std::cout << "const rvalue\n"; } int main() { pass_int(foo()); // prints "rvalue" pass_int(bar()); // prints "const rvalue" } According to the standard, there is no such thing as a const rvalue for non-class types, yet bar() prefers to bind to const int&&. Is this a compiler bug? EDIT: Apparently, this is also a const rvalue :)

I see them as complex vector with 4.6 mln of complex samples. I see their spectrum quite nice. I am looking document a bit less complicated as IEEE 802.11 standard (which I have).   The SQL implementation of relational databases has been around in their current form for something like 25 years (since System R and Ingres). Even the main (loosely adhered to) standard is ANSI-92 (although there were later updates) is a good 15 years old. What innovations can you think of with SQL based databases in the last ten years or so. I am specifically excluding OLAP, Columnar and other non-relational (or at least non SQL) innovations. I also want to exclude 'application server' type features and bundling (like reporting tools) Although the basic approach has remained fairly static, I can think of: Availability Ability to handle larger sets of data Ease of maintenance and configuration Support for more advanced data types (blob, xml, unicode etc) Any others that you can think of?

• Hiding flash component scrollbars using object/param syntax

  Hi all, I'm not sure if this is possible (complete non-flash developer speaking), but we have a 3rd party component that we want to only show a certain topleft hand portion of. I've tried limiting the size of the HTML object container as: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" height="415" data="<url>"> <param name="movie" value="<url>" /> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="flashvars" value="<vars>" /> </object> So limiting it to 600x415, but this causes horizontal and vertical scrollbars as part of the flash component to appear. Is there any standard way to override this behaviour? Thanks.

Given that WCF binding uses net.msmq:// URL, for instance net.msmq://server/private/nc_queue, how can one know what is the actual MSMQ address to which this URL is translated? Is there some kind of a trace that can be activated? Or an external tool that would help one capture the address? Thanks. EDIT1 OK, I owe a clarification. One can talk directly to MSMQ through the respective .NET API. In the case of MSMQ over its native port 1801, I would use this MSMQ address: FormatName:Direct=OS:server\private$\nc_queue When MSMQ is configured over HTTP, the address changes to something like this: FormatName:Direct=http://server/msmq/nc_queue But the WCF binding uses a standard URL to describe the address, like: net.msmq://server/private/nc_queue So, how can I know what is the actual MSMQ address (the one with the FormatName) to which the net.msmq:// is translated?

  How can I get the current local wall clock time (in number of millis since 1 Jan 1970) in London? Since my application can run on a server in any location, I think I need to use a TimeZone of "Europe/London". I also need to take Daylight Savings into account i.e. the application should add an hour during the "summer". I would prefer to use the standard java.util libraries. Is this correct? • Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

  I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access? • iPad Orientation Paradigm

  I'm not a super awesome designer so this new paradigm has me a little cranky. The iPad is not supposed to have a standard orientation, and should/shall display screen contents at whichever orientation the user decides. This has me sort of stumped. I can keep my UI designed the way I want it in landscape mode, but switching to portrait, I just can't determine the best way to present app content. I know it's all speculation at this point, but what are the chances we can override the autoRotateToOrientation to only include the orientation of our choice? Apple ignored the HIG on a lot of issues for iPhone, including splash screens, saving state, etc. I know we can't really argue with Apple, but doesn't it sound slightly ridiculous to reject an app because it won't rotate to portrait? I've come a long way porting some code to iPad and it works great in landscape mode. I guess only time will tell. What do you all think?

  Has there been an announcement (outside microformats.org) that the value-class-pattern is fully accessible? e.g. given <abbr class="value" title="2008-06-24">this Tuesday</abbr>, will a screen reader say "24 June 2008" or will it say "2008 dash 6 dash 24"? History Microformats came along, and were great, except that dates etc were stored in abbr tags: <abbr class="dtstart" title="20070312T1700-06"> March 12, 2007 at 5 PM, Central Standard Time </abbr>` This lead to screen readers doing ridiculous things as noted in hAccessibility. Now that microformats.org have released the value-class-pattern it's a lot better. But I'm left unable to find a declaration from WaSP (or another accessibility source not directly tied to microformats) that declaratively states that they are now accessible to screen readers etc.

  Here's the basic layout of a page I'm working on: What would be the best/easiest way to order the divs? C may or may not be visible (it's a news alert that only displays when there is news). A = Header, B = Menu, E&F = standard content columns, D = latest blog post. I'm thinking ABCEFD might make the most sense, but I could also see ABCDEF. Either of those should be fairly easy to do right using floats... is there a better way? Maybe put CEF inside a "middle column" div?

  How do you change which item is “outlined” in a ListBox? See the following screenshot for clarification: Background: I want to have a standard multi-select listbox that works normally. Unfortunately, the Windows Forms ListBox (with SelectionMode.MultiExtended) is not fully functional. The missing functionality is that it doesn’t let you select a disjoint set of items by using Ctrl+Arrow keys and Ctrl+Space. (Try it in Windows Explorer to see how it’s supposed to work.) I am trying to subclass ListBox and add this missing functionality. To this end, I intend to respond to Ctrl+Arrow keys in the OnKeyDown protected method, but in order to do so, I need to be able to move the outline without changing the set of selected items. How do I do that?
