• How can I find the program making a harmonica sound?

  A friend has a Windows XP SP3 machine that plays a harmonica sound for about 5 seconds throughout the day at what seems to be random intervals (every couple hours). My question is how can I find the program making this sound? Is there a Windows API hook for monitoring audio access? I've gone through and checked all the standard Windows sounds in the Control Panel and right now the theme is set to no sounds and I personally checked to make sure none of the events have a sound specified. I also checked the Task Scheduler to make sure there wasn't something scheduled to go off every couple hours. Any ideas on how to go about finding the bugger?

• Including a JSP Page Programatically

  I need to include a JSP page in a Tag class. I believe the standard way to include a JSP page within another JSP page using API is this: request.getRequestDispatcher("included.jsp").include(request, response); However, I noticed that the included page is rendered at the top of the generated page, no matter where the code is located. On the other hand, the <jsp:include> action works as expected, rendering the included page where the tag appears in the JSP file. How do I include a JSP page in a class so that it behaves the same as the <jsp:include>? There's no way to invoke the <jsp:include> action within a Tag class, is there?

• Typical practice for redistributing third party source code with your source code

  I'm releasing an application I wrote as an open-source project by creating a public source-code repository. I use a third-party library which is also open-source and freely redistributable. I'm not versioning the third-party library, but should I include it in my repository for the convenience of those cloning the repository or should I expect them to download the third-party library on their own? To be clear, I'm not asking if I should version the third-party code or if I can redistribute it, but whether it is standard practice to include third-party source code as a convenience.

• Why are events and commands in MVVM so unsupported by WPF / Visual Studio?

  When creating an WPF application with the MVVM pattern, it seems I have to gather the necessary tools myself to even begin the most rudimentary event handling, e.g. AttachedBehaviors I get from here DelegateCommands I get from here Now I'm looking for some way to handle the ItemSelected event in a ComboBox and am getting suggestions of tricks and workarounds to do this (using a XAML trigger or have other elements bound to the selected item, etc.). Ok, I can go down this road, but it seems to be reinventing the wheel. It would be nice to just have an ItemSelected command that I can handle in my ViewModel. Am I missing some set of standard tools or is everyone doing MVVM with WPF basically building and putting together their own collection of tools just so they can do the simplest plumbing tasks with events and commands, things that take only a couple lines in code-behind with a Click="eventHandler"?

• Free SWF Obfuscator

  Does anybody know of a free flash obfuscator? All I can find are commercial ones with free trials. I have done numerous google searches, and have been unable to find what I am looking for. I know that obfuscators do not make your swf hack proof, but they make things harder. Things I am looking for in an obfuscator: Unlimited obfuscations No time limit No watermark (or on the left side only! Right side is no good, same with center) Able to publish work (no special player needed other than standard flashplayer) I really was surprised to see how hard it was to find a good obfuscator (tried encoder, protection, etc. instead as well) and how easy it is to find a decompiler.... It is imperative that my code be protected, at least partially, to discourage the hacking of my game.

  Is there any way to automate a opening files with open dialog box on Mac OS? The application asks user to open files with the standard open dialog box. But I need open files automatically. The idea is to write script or a small application which will click the button in the target application to open dialog box and then somehow select files which I needed.   I've been using PuTTYcyg as a Cygwin terminal, but it doesn't render dashes in manual pages correctly. • jQuery event.stopPropagation is not working on <a>

  I have the following javascript: $('#ge-display').click(function (event) { window.open('/googleearth/ge-display.php','','scrollbars=yes,menubar=no,height=650,width=1000,resizable=yes,toolbar=yes,location=no,status=no'); event.stopPropagation(); return false; }); the element with id 'ge-display' is a standard link: <a href="/googleearth/ge-display.php" id="ge-display" target="_blank">Load Google Earth Plugin (in a new window)</a> The problem is - when I take out the 'return false;' line from the click event handler, the javascript popup opens, and then another browser window opens - I thought stopPropagation() would prevent the links own click handler? I've also tried stopImmediatePropagation() - but I still need to return false to stop the default behaviour of the link.

• Can't authenticate with different NTLM credentials in one session with java.net.URLConnection

  When I access a HTTP server using the standard Java API (java.net.URLConnection), the credentials are "cached" after the first successful authentication, and subsequent calls to Authenticator.setDefault() have no effect. So, I need to restart the application in order to use different credentials. I don't observe this effect when Basic Authentication is used. But I need to use NTLM for the server I'm accessing, and the Jakarta Commons HttpClient isn't an alternative either because it doesn't support NTLMv2 (see http://oaklandsoftware.com/papers/ntlm.html) Looking at the packets using Wireshark, I also observe that before the first successful authentication, an authentication with the current Windows credentials is attempted first. But after succesful authentication, only the saved credentials are used. Is there any way to reset or change the credentials java.net.Authenticator is using after a successful NTLM authentication?

• MySQLdb through proxy

  I'm using the above mentioned Python lib to connect to a MySQL server. So far I've worked locally and all worked fine, until i realized I'll have to use my program in a network where all access goes through a proxy. Does anyone now how I can set the connections managed by that lib to use a proxy? Alternatively: do you know of another Python lib for MySQL that can handle this? I also have no idea if the if the proxy server will allow access to the standard MySQL port or how I can trick it to allow it. Help on this is also welcomed.

  I need a way to define a FLAGS_IF macro (or equivalent) such that FLAGS_IF(expression) <block_of_code> FLAGS_ENDIF when compiling in debug (e.g. with a specific compiler switch) compiles to if (MyFunction(expression)) { <block_of_code> } whereas in release does not result in any instruction, just as it was like this #if 0 <block_of_code> #endif In my ignorance on the matter of c/c++ preprocessors i can't think of any naive way (since #define FLAGS_IF(x) #if 0 does not even compile) of doing this, can you help? I need a solution that: Does not get messed up if */ is present inside <block_of_code> Is sure to generate 0 instructions in release even inside inline functions at any depth (i guess this excludes if (false){<block_of_code>} right?) One of them has fixed contents (such as control buttons, etc.) and the other is standard panel, where I can add other components in designer (VS2008). I know that I have to create UserControl, where I can place my two panels. Then I want to insert my component into the form. But I don't know how to create behavior where I can add other components (such as buttons, labels, etc.) only into second panel in my component. Could anyone help me with creating this component?   I know how I would achieve this using PHP, but with jQuery / JavaScript I'm not sure how to, here's the string I'm dealing with (It's the name attribute from a input element): Field[0][some_random_text] I want to retrieve the value some_random_text and slap it in a variable, I guess I would usually use regex to accomplish this task but not sure how this is done in JavaScript. Here are some characteristics of this name attribute. It will always be in this format string[string][string] Each of the strings can be any length How would I get the some_random_text string? I'd like to stick to the standard set of functions if possible.

  I've been having the following problem with my GoDaddy's server. I am using JSPs with the JSTL Library. My /WEB-INF/lib folder contains the following libraries: jstl.jar standard.jar My JSP looks something like this: <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %> <p>Hello! <% out.print(System.getProperty("java.class.path")); %></p> But I keep getting the following exception: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: The absolute uri: http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application Any ideas as to why it is doing that? • How to Detect Forward and Back Mouse Button Events in Delphi?

  If a mouse has other buttons in addition to the standard left/right/middle (e.g. forward/back), how can we detect those button clicks in Delphi? An example of how this is used is the Internet Explorer, where the forward/back button on the side of a Logitech or MS mouse cycles forward and back between any loaded web pages. This seems to replicate the Backspace/CTRL+Backspace on the keyboard but I tried to detect that using KeyPreview and the KeyPress event but it does not pick it up. Any idea how to detect clicks on these extended mouse buttons?

• How do I get a TextBox to only accept numeric input in WPF?

  I'm looking to accept digits and the decimal point, but no sign. I've looked at samples using the NumericUpDown control for WinForms, and this sample of a NumericUpDown custom control from Microsoft. But so far it seems like NumericUpDown (supported by WPF or not) is not going to provide the functionality that I want. The way my app is designed, nobody in their right mind is going to want to mess with the arrows. They don't make any practical sense, in the context of my app. So I'm looking for a simple way to make a standard WPF TextBox accept only the characters that I want. Is this possible?   I'm a complete newbie to Windows and COM programming, trying to use com4j in order to call a COM object from Java. Com4j generates Java interfaces from COM definitions "often found in .ocx, .dll, .exe, and/or .tlb files" . It was easy for me to locate the .ocx file of my target COM object, but I have no clue regarding the standard interface iStream. Microsoft's documentation mentions OLE32.DLL ( c:\Windows\Windows32\Ole32.dll ?) , but neither the com4j generator nor oleviewer succeed in opening this file. Any hints?

• Supporting different locale regions using Rails i18n

  I'm using the standard Rails I18n API to localise some of our views. This is working really well, but we now have a few use cases for regional changes to the en locale. The API guide mentions that this isn't supported directly, and other plugins should be used. However, I'm wondering whether there's a simpler way to do this. I already have en.yml, so in theory I could just create en-AU.yml and en-US.yml which are effectively clones of en.yml but with a few regional changes applied. I could then add additional English - American and English - Australian options to our configuration which would map to the new region-specific locales and allow users to use a region-specific locale. The only problem I can think of with this is that it isn't DRY -- I would have duplicate translations for all common English words. I can't see a way around this. Are there any other disadvantages to this approach, or should I just bite the bullet and dive into one of the plug-ins such as Globalize2 instead?

• What is ltmain.sh, and why does automake say it is missing? What is a good auto (make/conf/etc) gene

  I just want to develop a C app in linux with the auto(make/conf/...) stuff automatically generated. I tried generating it with ede and anjuta, but it doesn't seem to generate Makefile.am. So, I tried running automake, and it says "ltmain.sh" isn't found. Is there some easy to generate the basic build files for linux C/C++ apps. What is the standard practice? Do most people write these files themselves?

• Best way to reuse a footer menu in Android

  I'm trying to implement a menu in the footer of an app, similar to i.e. the Engadget app. As I understand, getting a standard TabLayout to work in this way is not trivial (if at all possible?). As I see quite a few apps using this interface paradigm, I would assume there is a clever way of doing it. Currently, I'm defining the layout by adding an include line at the end of every layout. This works fine as far as rendering is concerned, but I have to add the onClickListeners to each activity. can we define clickListener through XML? To sum up my question: What is the best way to implement a shared footer navigation accross several Activities?

• setup.py install dependency too?

  I have a python source distribution, and it depends on some other modules that I've also made. The directory tree looks like this. I've written a setup.py file for one of those modules (pydirac225, for those of you who are following along at home), and I want to have that setup.py called from the main setup.py? Another module dependency (pysoundtouch14) has a setup.py file, but the contents of it are basically pasted into the main setup.py script. It seems more modular to allow each of these components to specify how they are set up, and allow the main setup file to invoke their setup scripts individually. Is there a standard way to deal with this issue? To recap: I have some code that depends on other modules: should the other module's setup code go in the main setup.py, or is there a way to have my code's setup.py invoke their setup.py files?

• Confusion on using django socialauth

Of course, I read the notes at the bottom but I'm a Django novice so I'll need a little hand holding. The structure of this looks like a project structure since it contains a urls.py but I'm also aware that applications can also have that. It also has a manage.py which leads me to believe it's a project ( plus the subdirectories ). So should I just be integrating portions of this into my existing project? This isn't an application, right? The README also mentions grabbing API Keys. So if I want a standard interface where you click on a google/yahoo logo and it forwards itself via Javascript to the authentication page where you login if you already aren't logged in, kicks you back to your own page, would I need API keys? Any other special tips are appreciated.

• What are some best practices for structuring cherrypy apps?

  I'm writing a cherrypy app and I was wondering what the best way is for structuring my handlers and code for larger applications? I realize assignment is simple trough cherrypy.root, but what are some practices for writing the handlers and assigning them? (Allow me to prove my confusion!) My initial thought is to write a standard handler class that infers a template to run based on the current URL or class/method combination. Then I would assign one instance of that handler multiple times to the path to create pages. I don't see this working however as the recursive references wouldn't work quite right. So, given the fact that I'm already drawing blanks on how my own source code should look, I'd love some pointers and examples! Feel free to ask some detailed questions for me to clarify. While there is plenty of cherrypy tutorial material out there, it tends to only scratch the surface.

• pdf errors with php, apache2

  Hi-- I'm seeing some strange behavior from some dynamically generated PDFs using the TCPDF library in PHP. Standard lamp stack-- however, if you try to open the PDF from Windows with Acrobat Reader, it gives an error that the "file is damaged and could not be repaired". From Mac, Linux, etc. the file works fine, and opens fine. It also opens fine in Google Docs-- so clearly the PDF itself is ok. Is it possible that the mime type (application/pdf) is causing problems in Windows? Thanks
