  • Windows 7 startup MUCH slower after reinstall (on an SSD)

    I installed Windows 7 Prof 64 bits OEM (Spanish) on my new machine. As I wanted my Windows to be in English, the web shop where I bought the DVD recomended me to download an ISO file with the same Windows version (but in English), burn it on a DVD and install it. And that I should be able to use my registration code. Location ISO: http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/X15-65805/X15-65805.iso I've done this and everything works (I have not activated my Windows yet but I expect no problem there). Just one thing: its startup is MUCH slower now! Have a look at my PC specs (bottom). On my first install (Spanish), it was like: - motherboard splash screen -- shows for a second or two - list of found drives -- a few seconds - the text "Windows starting" -- about a second before the dots appear - four collored dots form the Windows logo -- a few seconds after the logo is fully formed it moves on to the login screen. On my second install (English): - motherboard splash screen -- shows for 15 seconds - list of found drives -- a few seconds - the text "Windows starting" -- shows for 40 seconds before the dots appear - four collored dots form the Windows logo -- now it moves on to the login screen about equally fast as before. Ones it's up and running it seems to be as responsive as before, although it's possible that I'm not noticing the difference. I did the first install on the virgin SSD drive straight from the box. The second time I let the Windows installation program format the drive first to get rid of the old installation. I noticed that there were two partitions on my SSD: partition 1, 100 Mb, "reserved for the system" and partition 2, 111.7 Gb. I only formated the big partition, and I left the system partition untouched. Between the two installs, I didn't open the computer so everything is connected to the same port. I did not change anything in BIOS. Has Windows not recognized my SSD as an SSD but as a normal HDD. I suspect that Windows has not done the neccesary automatic configuration settings that it should do for SSD's (but that's just a hunch). How do I get my SSD back into its virgin state, as if it came right from the box, so I can go for a 3rd attempt to install windows. Should I use DISKPART? Other ideas are welcome. Specifications: mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 CPU: i7-2600K SSD: OCZ Agility3 2,5" HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F4 mem: Kingston HyperX DIMM 8 Gb DDR3-1600

  • encrypt multiple systems (win7 + deb)

    I've installed two operatings system on single drive with 3 partitions (#1 Windows 7, #2 Debian Squeeze, #some data). Grub 2 is installed in MBR and lets me choose which system to boot. I would encrypt the 1st system partition containing Win 7. I tried to do this using TrueCrypt under Windows, but it says that encrypting Windows system with other loader (not windows loader, Grub in my case) is not supported. How can I do that?

  • Are there any PCI graphics cards with Windows 7 drivers?

    I have a Dell D830 laptop and am trying to add a second graphics card (to the laptop dock) to drive more monitors. It needs to be PCI (not PCI-e), and would ideally itself have dual DVI outputs (although I'll settle for DVI + VGA or even just DVI at this stage...)   • Partitioning Windows 8.1 in order to have data partition first and system partitions at HDD end

    How can I have recovery partition at the HDD end? My aim is to have data partition installed on fastest sectors of my hard drive, as I don't really care if restoring operations are slow... During Windows installation, when I create a partition, I get immediately created EFI and recovery ones just before the actual data partition. EFI position is good, I want my PC boot fast, but I want to move partitions I don't care about speed. I've also considered GParted, but I think I'm not able to use it :P

    Is there any software that can be installed in Windows XP to set file permissions for guest accounts? So that they would have to input a valid administrator password first before they can access the file? I've seen a feature like this in Ubuntu, wherein even the administrator has to input the password over and over just to access a certain drive. But I need it in Windows XP.

  • is it a good idea to change a recovery partition from primary to logical? [HP laptop]

    I have a new HP laptop, model dv6-6c85la, with 1TB hard drive, and it has 4 primary partitions, like this: |<- system [199 MB] -|<- c: [899.8 GB] -|<- d:(recovery) [27.5 GB] -|<- e:(hp_tools) [4 GB] -| I wanted to make another partition, splitting "C" which is the main partition, into TWO partitions, and leave the rest as it is. but it doesn't let me because they are already 4 primary partitions (the ones in the diagram). I read somewhere, that i could in fact split C into 2 partitions, but only if the adjacent partition (in this case d:(recovery) is converted into a "logical" partition. That way, the new unallocated part taken from C, and the recovery partition, would each be logical, "inside" an extended partition (right???) As i understand, the resulting partitions would be: primary (system, no letter), primary (c:), extended [ logical (x:) | logical(d:recovery) ], primary (e: hp_tools) "x" being the new one. am i correct? My question is, if i do convert the recovery partition to logical (and thus, it is inside an extended partition adjacent to the new "x:" one), would i have any problems when in case of a disaster i would like to restore the system using the now logical instead of primary RECOVERY partition? Or it is completely safe to change it to logical? My main concern is because i think i may need to be primary so the recovery can proceed in boot time? Or i am completely wrong? how does the recovery process happens? I also understand that i can simply create recovery media, in DVDs, and then even i would be able to delete that recovery partition completely, but as of now, i don't want to do that. I may create the disks, but i don't want to delete the partition, simply because it would be a lot faster and easier to recover from a hard drive than disks. Wrapping up: if i change a recovery partition from primary to logical, will the system still be capable of using it to recover? or it NEEDS to be primary to work? The whole point is that i want to split C:, but as things are, i cant directly, i'd need to change the recovery partition to logical. Or is there another way? thanks.

  • How to recover Windows 7 partition?

    I created a 50GB partition on my hard drive to experiment with installing a 2nd copy of W7. (I wanted to see if a clean install would fix a bug) However, It seems I can no longer access the old part of my computer the way it was before. I was under the impression that creating a partition like this was harmless. Is there anyway to change my primary partition back to what the computer boots to? Thanks

What if some virus (or a pseudo-antivirus gets it) M.b. it is better to buy Mac for this purpose?     I have a application that has several dialogs in it. In the chm file I have help related to each dialog . I defined Map#s ( the keyword to display help with) in my chm file for each dialog so that I can open the related help of the dialog. for example : My chm file name is Example.chm And the ID for the dialog help are mapped in the chm file: Dialog1.htm Dialog2.htm I am using System.Windows.Forms.Help.ShowHelp(null, @"C:\Example.chm", Dialog1.htm); System.Windows.Forms.Help.ShowHelp(null, @"C:\Example.chm"); Either of the above is not working.. Please help!!

    So, I'm using URL routing with WebForms. I run locally through the Visual Studio web server, and everything is hunky-dory. I deploy locally to IIS (XP, so it's IIS5), and therefore I need to make sure that I have my app wildcard mapped so the URL routing is handled properly. However, doing this makes all my PageMethods fail with this message: The HTTP verb POST used to access path is not allowed Something like /default.aspx/SendMessage does not work. I've seen solutions that exclude .svx and .asmx files, however, since this is a page method, this is a .aspx file. I know the solution is to move these files outside of .aspx, however, I have quite a few functions throughout the site in these various files. I guess I could create a single web service, and have all the functions there, however, I'm curious if there's a quick and easy way to fix this? Thanks all, -Steve

  • Subdomains on Windows Azure

    Hi, I've got a Windows Azure project I'm working on. It has two web roles - one is a public-facing site, and the second is an administration site for my customer to make changes to the database etc. I had expected to be able to use a subdomain for each role - so for example have mysite.com and admin.mysite.com (obviously CNAME-mapped to the .cloudapp.net DNS name). However it looks like Azure doesn't do this, and instead has one subdomain (mysite.com) with different ports for each web role. So, for example, I would have mysite.com:80 for the main public site, and mysite.com:8080 for the administration. Is this correct? Is there no way I can have subdomains for particular web roles?     Let us say we have a class A which has a reference to another class B (1:m) public class A { public virtual B B { get; set; } } I reflect this using FluentNHibernate within the sharp architecture and also manage to ‘initialise’ A and its B via a DTO and Automapper. The DTO contain A’s values and B (just B’s id value/A’s foreign key initialised). I was hoping that I can persist A by ‘just’ using its 'out of the box repository' without requiring B’s repository using: SaveOrUpdate(A); (A has been mapped using AutoMapper and contains B with its Id initialised) Was my assumption too naive? Can I achieve this somehow (without ever requiring B’s repository)? Or do I have to use A’s and B’s repository in, for example, the controller or some other service layer? Thanks. I'm having a org.hibernate.MappingException: No Dialect mapping for JDBC type: 2002 when a try to do a nativeQuery and get a geometry field type. I use oracle and org.hibernatespatial.oracle.OracleSpatial10gDialect.   • Django not recognizing django admin urls

    I just registered my models my models with django admin. I navigate to the django admin at /admin. I log in sucessfully and I can see all my models. great so far. But now if I try to click one of the links, for Ex: 'users', django gives me a 404 saying The current URL, admin/auth/user/, didn't match any of these. Its really weird because in my urls.py I have it mapped correctly (r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)), I have all the required middleware enabled and have these in my installed apps 'django.contrib.auth', 'django.contrib.contenttypes', 'django.contrib.sessions', 'django.contrib.sites', 'django.contrib.messages', 'django.contrib.admin', anyone have any idea?     I'd like to edit an object like the one below. I'd like the UsersSelectedList populated with one or more Users from the UsersGrossList. Using the standard edit-views in mvc, I get only strings and booleans (not shown below) mapped. Many of the examples I find on google utilizes early releases of the mvc framework whereas I use the official 1.0 release.   • Custom web.config in Visual Studio Setup Project

    Hi, In the Setup Project I have 2 web.config files: web.config - used during the development and web_dist.config - the one that should be included into Setup Project. I must be sure the the Setup project will NOT include the web.config and will always include web_dist.config. In the File System - Web Application Folder I have added the Content Files from the project. Also included the web_dist.config and mapped it to the web.config. But this gives the warning: WARNING: Two or more objects have the same target location ('[targetdir]\web.config') And the actual config file included is web.config and not web_dist.config. What would be the best option to include the web_dist.config (and named as web.config in the setup)? Thanks, Dmitriy.
