• SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions doesn't work

  I follow the direction in here How to configure SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions to create ASPState db. I have 2 web application in IIS 7. In IIS web application setting, i go to "Session State" and set session state as "SQL Server" and provide connection string. In each web application web.config, i add <sessionState mode="SQLServer" allowCustomSqlDatabase="false" sqlConnectionString="data source=server;user id=user;password=password" cookieless="false" timeout="7200" /> I create a session , Session["Data"] = "test" in Web App A and go to Web App B in the same browser to print it Response.Write(Session["Data"]); It shows NOTHING. I can see there are data in table : ASPStateTempApplications and ASPStateTempSessions under ASPState Database. Also, i dont see any error in event log. Can anyone think anything i may do wrong? • How can I set the Rails environment for my somewhat stand alone Ruby script?

  I have a Ruby script in my Rails app that I use to load some data from Twitter. In the future I will make it an automatic background process, but for now I run it manually like: ruby /lib/twitter/twitterLoad.rb In order to use the Rails model classes and such, I have the following as the top line of the script: require "#{File.dirname(__FILE__)}/../../config/environment.rb" By default, the development environment is used. But, I'd like to be able to choose the production environment at some point. Update #1: The RAILS_ENV constant is getting set in the environment.rb file. So, I was able to put ENV['RAILS_ENV'] = 'production' at the very top (before the environment.rb) line and solve my problem somewhat. So, my new question is, can do pass in env vars through the command line?

• ASP.NET/IIS: Tell IIS do not check for file existence

  In my Global.asax.cs, I have: routes.MapRoute("AssetCss", "css/{*path}", new { controller = "Asset", action = "Index" }); I also have this in a view: <link href="/css/Root/index.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> The problem is that the AssetController does not invoke Index when /css/Root/index.css is requested. This is because a file actually exists at the path /css/Root/index.css. If I recall correctly, there's a checkbox setting in IIS that basically says "Do not check that a file actually exists at the request path [instead, let the RouteTable handle it]." (At least there is in IIS 6.) Is there something I can put in my Web.config that sets this IIS setting to true? How do I tell IIS to let my MVC routes handle the path even if a file exists at the path?

  The source of my information is section 2.9 here: [http://guides.rubyonrails.org/routing.html#connecting-urls-to-code][1] What I'm trying to do is add a custom action "search" and corresponding view. So, as it says to do in the documentation, I've added this code in my config/routes.rb file: resources :dimensions do collection do get "search" end end I've also defined in the dimensions_controller file: def search @dimensions = Dimension.all respond_to do |format| format.html # search.html.erb format.json { render json: @dimensions } end end I then stopped and restarted the rails server, but when I navigate to /dimensions/home, I'm still getting this error message: Couldn't find Dimension with id=search Also showing that my parameter is: {"id"=>"search"} So am I just missing another bit of code that gives the instruction to interpret /dimension/search as a collection action as opposed to the show action? • Doesn't Spring really support Interface injection at all?

  Hi I know that Spring doesn't supports Interface injection and I've read that many a times. But today as I came across an article about IOC by Martin Fowler (link), it seems using ApplicationContextAware in Spring is some what similar to the Interface injection. when ever Spring' context reference is required in our Spring bean, we'll implement ApplicationContextAware and will implement the setApplicationContext(ApplicationContext context) method, and we'll include the bean in the config file. Is not this the same as Interface injection, where where telling the Spring to inject (or), say, pass the reference of the context into this bean? Or I m missing something here? • sIFR seems to be loading correctly but not displaying text.

  I'm Using sIFR 3r436, and although I believe everything is set up correctly, and my console shows that the .swf font file is loading correctly, the HTML type is hidden but the sIFR type is not displaying. Below is a link to the site in question: Schaffer's Website Below is a link to a test site that uses exactly the same sifr-config.js, sifr.js, css, and swf files. And it works. The main difference between the two is the server that they are running on. Schaffer's Test Site I'm hoping that maybe somebody can see a problem that I'm unable to. Appreciate the help!

• Writing WCF messages to a text log in configurable directory.

  Hello everyone, I have a WCF web service that is deployed at IIS. Part of the web service is to validate the inputs using EntLib 4.1 For ex, the string values can be of specific length and so on. In case of the validation being failed a fault exception is raised and the service is supposed to write the message in log file. How do I go about creating the log file to a location that can be configured from a config file. Basically how do we write messages from IIS (since the service is hosted at IIS, I am assuming that that will be the source !!!!) Regards.

  I am trying to create an MSI package that uses the AppCmd application to configure IIS7. It only has to execute some commands that call AppCmd. Some commands need to be called when installing, other commands need to be called when uninstalling. Here is what I have now: I have a property that points to AppCmd: <Property Id="APPCMD" Value="C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe" /> I have my custom actions: <CustomAction Id="UnlockHandlerSection" Return="check" Property="APPCMD" ExeCommand="unlock config /section:system.webServer/handlers" /> I have Custom elements that call the actions: <InstallExecuteSequence> <Custom Action="UnlockHandlerSection" After="InstallFiles">NOT Installed AND NOT PATCH</Custom> <InstallExecuteSequence> The problem with this is is that the commands are not called when I try to install the resulting MSI package. • Typed DataSet connection - required to have one in the .xsd file?

  In the .xsd file for a typed DataSet in .NET, there's a <Connections> section that contains a list of any data connections I've used to set up the DataTables and TableAdapters. There are times when I'd prefer not to have those there. For instance, sometimes I prefer to pass in a connection string to a custom constructor and use that rather than look for one in settings, .config, etc. But it seems like if I remove the connection strings from that section (leaving it empty), or remove the section entirely, the DataSet code-generation tool freaks out. Whereas if I don't remove them, the DataSet gripes when I put it in a different project because it can't find the settings for those connection strings. Is there any way I can tell a typed DataSet not to worry about any connections? (Obviously I'll have to give it a connection if I change any TableAdapter SQL or stored procs, but that should be my problem.)

  My company has several web applications written in ASP.NET. We need to make these applications available to Intranet users as well as authenticated external users. Most of the features are the same for the two groups, though there are some extra features available to the Internal users. The two different sets of users would use a slightly different security setup... our internal people will be authenticated using LDAP against Exchange, whereas the external users will have accounts in SQL Server. What is the best approach for deploying our web apps? Should we deploy 2 copies to different servers, one configured for an Intranet and one for outside users? Or is there a better way to share the code between the 2 servers, yet have the flexibility to use different web.config settings for security??

• How to show, not download, images in apache?

  I'm dynamically generating some charts using mod_python, in .png and .pdf formats. When a user points to /some/path/some_imagefile_name.png, I want to show the image within the browser, like in this url. I also want the image to be accessible from an HTML <img src=> tag. So far, whenever I point my browser to a .png address from my server, the .png and .pdf are automatically downloaded instead of being viewed. How should I fix this? I tagged this under Apache, since I figured it would be an Apache config thing. If it's not, please point me towards the right direction.

  in my asp.net MVC project i have an database connection with connectionstring: Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=dbname;Integrated Security=True All users can execute Stored Procedures on that connection and i want to log those users. so after each execution I store "User.Identity.Name" to another database. This work great on my development machine but after deployment, to access the site i have to go through a VPN-connention and then remote desktop to the same server that the IIS is running on and use a web-browser there. Then i get User.Identity.Name: "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE". i would expect it to be the credentials i entered in remote desktop that have access to the database. any idea how i can get this to work? iis6 authentication: "windows authentication: enabled" web.config:

• Apache Rewrite Excluding Assets Directory

  Hi all I'm writing a mini-MVC application. App architecture: actions/ templates/ site/ app/ styles/ images/ scripts/ So far, I've got a controller working properly, taking in all requests. However, javascript files are not being rendered properly in the browser; I'm getting a 404 Not Found when I try to load the file in the browser. Here is my current Directory config in a vhost file: DirectoryIndex index.php RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /apps/ecatalogue RewriteRule ^scripts/(.*) - [NC,L] <--- Rule not working RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php [NC,L,QSA] I can confirm everything else works; I just need apache to ignore anything in scripts so the file can be loaded normally without being processed by the controller. • How does Rails Plugin Storage work?

  Trying to figure out how to install rails plugins manually on windows so I have a few questions. What does the directory need to be named in vendor/plugins? Is it arbitrary or is it linked to something within the plugin config files or is that what you set in the environment.rb? Once I've copied the files to the correct directory, do I always need to run something inside like init.rb or is it good to go? What's the difference between 'require' and 'include'? Thanks!

  I'm attempting to provide a confirmation link in my user welcome email and I'm getting the following Rails error: Need controller and action! It makes a fuss about this line: <p>Please take a moment to activate your account by going to: <%= link_to confirm_user_url(:id => @user.confirmation_code) %>.</p> In my development.rb environment, I have the following line: config.action_mailer.default_url_options = { :host => "localhost", :port => 3000 } There's no problem with the @user variable. I've tested the email with things like @user.username and @user.confirmation_code. I'm only getting trouble with url_for and named routes like confirm_user_url. When I check my routes with rake routes, confirm_user shows up, so it's not an issue with the named route not existing. I can't seem to figure it out. What gives?

  Hi everybody, I'm using the python logging module with the "native" configuration file support (config.fileconfig) as describe in the documentation here : http://docs.python.org/library/logging.html (see the logging.conf file) I was wondering if it's possible to supply a tabulated data format in the configuration file? The sample configuration file is the following: [formatter_simpleFormatter] format=%(asctime)s - %(name)s - %(levelname)s - %(message)s I though that using the \t in the format would be enough but it doesn't. format=%(asctime)s\t%(name)s\t%(levelname)s\t%(message)s\t If I do so it print \t in the result. I tried a couple of thing without success. I suppose it's really easy to do but I don't find it! How can I do that?

  I've just started using ccnet so I'm having trouble understanding why the merging of nant and nunit outputs are not working. I've setup my ccnet.config with typical values as found on google: <merge> <files> <file>D:\ccnet\path1\nant-results.xml</file> <file>D:\ccnet\path2\TestResult.xml</file> </files> </merge> <xmllogger /> Nant and ccnet are half working: if I deliberately put in a code error, then ccnet will say build failed. The same happens if I deliberately put in a failing test, ccnet will say build failed. But the ViewBuildReport.aspx page does not show any of the output from nant or nunit. Obviously I must be missing something, but I don't know what, any ideas? Thanks, JK

  I've got a serverside app that send down a custom mime-type file "application/x-optibase". Firefox prompt user user to save or open the file and if the user clicks open the correct application launches so I believe I have mimeType.rdf configured correctly I've gone into about:config and set browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile to application/x-optibase and browser.helpApps.alwaysAsk.force to false According to the minimal documentation out there this should enable the application to automatically open when the user downloads the file but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks.

  I used to use Spring.Net and want to switch to Ninject 1.5 (I have to use .NET2, since some unlucky guy like me still needs to consider users working with win 2k). I used to have everything done in xml and only invoke the container during startup. In this way, only very limited codes are depending on container. I have scenarios like this and I wonder how to do the same in Ninject. I have external config file, which are the items the end users can change basing on their environment/preferences. And some of my objects depends on those values to initialize. Mostly they are primary values, but some times can be list/dictionaries/etc.

• Errors not being redirected to an Http handler if redirectMode="ResponseRewrite"

  I see similar questions, but it looks like there were due to an unrelated issue. in 3.5, I have a custom error handler that logs errors and redirects users. My web.config is set up as such: <httpHandlers> <add path="error.ashx" type="MySite.Tools.WebErrorLogger, MySite.Tools" verb="*"/> </httpHandlers> <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="error.ashx" redirectMode="ResponseRewrite"> </customErrors> When redirectMode is set to "ResponseRedirect", everything works fine (but Server.GetLastError() being null but that seems to be intended) However, when using ResponseRewrite, my handler is not called and I see ASP.Net default error pages. Any idea on how I could do this? (I unfortunately can't use either an aspx page or do my error handling in global.asax due to other constraints)

• ASP, My SQL & case sensitity suddenly broken

  Hi There, We have an old ASPsite that has been working fine for years with a MY SQL database. All of a sudden last week lots fo SQL queries stopped working. The database has a table called 'members' but the code calls 'Members'. It appears the queries used to work regardless of case sensitivity on the table names, but something has changed recently somewhere to enforce case. This has me stumped as the site has not been touched in years, the server config hasn't changed & the database provide has not changed anything. Is there any simple way to ignore case for an ASP site (without editing lots fo files :) Thanks Ben

  I'm used to doing basic password protection for Apache w/ the following method in Apache config files: AuthType Basic AuthName "By Invitation Only" AuthUserFile /path/to/.htpasswd Require valid-user However, I've been asked to put some protection on a subdirectory of a site running ColdFusion on top of IIS6, and I'm unfamiliar with how to do this. How is this done? What should I look out for? I just need to password protect an administrative subdirectory, so I don't need a full user login system - just something that limits who can access the section of the site.

• Asp.net profile in a separate assembly

  Hi everyone, I have a web application which uses membership and profiles. I successfully used the WebProfileBuilder extension, so my profile class is correctly generated, and is working nicely. However, after a new request of my client, I need now to move that profile management part into another assembly (so I'd be able to get profile information in a windows service running on the same machine). What I made is created the new assembly, moved my generated profile file, and tried to use it from the other assembly, but without any success. I always get a SettingsPropertyNotFoundException. My tought is that the profile system doesn't know where to find its connection information, so I tried to add the connectionstring and provider in the app.config of this assembly, but this doesn't seem to work. What am I missing ? Is it possible to do ? Thanks in advance!
