• Managing Data Prefetching and Dependencies with .NET Typed Datasets

  I'm using .NET typed datasets on a project, and I often get into situations where I prefetch data from several tables into a dataset and then pass that dataset to several methods for processing. It seems cleaner to let each method decide exactly which data it needs and then load the data itself. However, several of the methods work with the same data, and I want the performance benefit of loading data in the beginning only once. My problem is that I don't know of a good way or pattern to use for managing dependencies (I want to be sure I load all the data that I'm going to need for each class/method that will use the dataset). Currently, I just end up looking through the code for the various classes that will use the dataset to make sure I'm loading everything appropriately. What are good approaches or patterns to use in this situation? Am I doing something fundamentally wrong? Although I'm using typed datasets, this seems like it would be a common situation where prefetching data is used. Thanks!

Now i am trying with one more table. I have few question As per my understanding we need to add following things DAOinterface DAOimpl table POJO so Is this the only way to add more tables ? • Special characters incongruence

  Hello I'm building a Spring MVC web application that runs on Tomcat 6.0.20 and JDK 1.6.0_19. When I send some special characters through an HTML form some of them are stored as question marks ? For example these symbols are stored correctly: €, á, é, í, ‰, etc But some symbols are replaced with ? like: £, ?, ? MySQL tables charset is utf-8. My jsp also use utf-8 <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> I have included org.springframework.web.filter.CharacterEncodingFilter in web.xml as suggested here When I debug the POST request when sending 3 characters €a£ with firebug I get: %E2%82%ACa%E2%82%A4 which is correct since E2 82 AC is the code for € and E2 82 A4 is the code for £ but £ is stored as ? in the database. When I save £ directly into the database it is displayed correctly in the webpage. How can I fix this?

  Hello, I've got the following problem: I have two tables: (simplified) +--------+ +-----------+ | User | | Role | +--------+ +-----------+ | ID<PK> | | ID <PK> | +--------+ | Name | +-----------+ and M:N relationship between them +-------------+ | User_Role | +-------------+ | User<FK> | | Role<FK> | +-------------+ I need to create a view, which selects me: User, and in one column, all of his Roles (this is done by group_concat). I've tried following: SELECT u.*, group_concat(r.Name separator ',') as Roles FROM User u LEFT JOIN User_Role ur ON ur.User=u.ID LEFT JOIN Role r ON ur.Role=r.ID GROUP BY u.ID; However, this works for an user with some defined roles. Users without role aren't returned. How can I modify the statement, to return me User with empty string in Roles column when User doesn't have any Role? Explanation: I'm passing the SQL data directly to a grid, which then formats itself, and it is easier for me to create slow and complicated view, than to format it in my code. I'm using MySQL

• .NET make a copy of an embedded file resource to the local drive

  Hi, i'm new to the realm to working with Files in .NET I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.) In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File--New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory. The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor) I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime? Any guidance will be very, very appreciated. Thanks!

• how to use php to include an image in a word file?

  Hi all! Somebody has asked me to make an app in php that will generate a .doc file with an image and a few tables in it. My first approach was: somethingsomething else cevaaltceva'); fclose($fh); ? This uses the data uri technique of embedding an image. This will generate an html file that will be rendered ok in web browsers but the image is missing in Microsoft Office Word, at least in the standard setup. Then, while editing the file with Word, i've replace the image with an image from file and Microsoft Word changed the contents of the file into Open XML and added a folder, new_files where he put the imported image (which was a .png), a .gif version of the image and a xml file: Now this isn't good enough either since i want this to be all kept in a single .doc file. Is there a way to embed an image in an OpenXML-formatted .doc file? Any help will be much appreciated.

• Master data validation in service layer

Data is populated in the dropdowns based on some logic from the master data tables and we know for sure that its a valid master data as far as web layer is concern. Now my question is, should be check the validity of the master data in service layer again because we want to use service layer for mulitple interfaces (Web User Interface, Web Services, Unit Test Cases etc.) or we should validate the master data in respective interfaces only.

  Hi, in my SQL2008 I have a user which is in the "db_datareader", "db_datawriter" and "db_ddladmin" DB roles, however when he tries to modify a table with SSMS he receives a message saying: You are not logged in as the database owner or system administrator. You might not be able to save changes to tables that you do not own. Of course, I would like to avoid such message, but until now I did find the way... Therefore, I try to modify the user by adding him to the "db_owner" role, and of course I do not have the message above. My question is: Is it possible to keep the user in the "db_owner" role, but deny some actions like alter user or ? I try "alter any user" securable on DB level, but it does not work... THANKS!

  I created an enum where I stored some table names. I want it to be used to get the name of the table like ds.Tables[BGuestInfo.TableName.L_GUEST_TYPE.ToString()]. public enum TableName : byte { L_GUEST_TYPE = 0 ,L_AGE_GROUP = 1 ,M_COMPANY = 2 ,L_COUNTRY = 3 ,L_EYE_COLOR = 4 ,L_GENDER = 5 ,L_HAIR_COLOR = 6 ,L_STATE_PROVINCE = 7 ,L_STATUS = 8 ,L_TITLE = 9 ,M_TOWER = 10 ,L_CITY = 11 ,L_REGISTER_TYPE = 12 } This is my enum. Now I have not created any object of this enum so that no one can use it for other than read only purpose. For this enum to be accessible in outer classes as well I have to make it public which means some outer class can create its object as well. So what can i do so as to restrict its object creation.

  I know that I can't get a specific answer to my question, but I would like to know if I can find the tools to get to my answer. Ok we have a Sql Server 2008 database that for the last 4 days has had moments where for 5-20 minutes becomes unresponsive for specific queries. e.g. The following queries run in different query windows simultaneously have the following results SELECT * FROM Assignment --hangs indefinitely SELECT * FROM Invoice -- works fine Many of the tables have non-clustered indexes to help speed up SELECTs Here's what I know: 1) The same query will either hang indefinitely or run normally. 2) In Activity Monitor in the processes tab there are normally around 80-100 processes running I think that what's happening is 1) A user updates a table 2) This causes one or more indexes to get updated 3) Another user issues a select while the index is updating Is there a way I can figure out why at a specific moment in time SQL Server is being unresponsive for a specific query?

  I need to write a workflow that monitors the status of a sql server column/field and does work to some other tables once the column has changed to "Close". (It could wait for days or hours) My application is written in c# .net 3.5.   Hey guys, So I have been given the host, username, and login information for a MySQL Database. I need a client that I can use to log in to the Database remotely and create/update tables and edit all the data. I found the MySQL Administrator client provided by them, but it seems you can do everything BUT edit the actual data with it. Is there anything like this? Would I be able to use SQL Server Express (or something similar), to connect to a remote server online and do all of this?

The desired result is to intercept this instantiation and perform an operation on the public connection that is opened in the ctor of System.Web.DataAccess.SqlConnectionHolder before letting execution continue. Is this possible. If so, an brief example would be appreciated.

The xml control id is xmlApplication The xmlstring is generated and xsl has the format with all the tables and cells etc. Here is a part of thecode of a page which generates the final product which shows the xml in a certain format. xmlApplication.Document = xmlDoc; xmlApplication.Transform = transApp; xmlApplication.DataBind(); I am guessing after xmlApplication.Databind(), xmlApplication will be converted into something that can be put inside . For example, categories like "historical fiction","biography","science fiction", etc. I see the following pros and cons: Pro: I can make changes to the list without sending an app update to Google Play Not normalized - I can use the text in my other data tables instead of a reference ID Con: App needs to take time to download from the web each time (or at least check for changes) English only I believe the "proper" way to do this is the use the XML resource files. But I need to make sure the selection references correctly with my data. That is, my app needs to understand that "Poetry" and "Poesía" are the same thing. Is the correct thing to do: Forget about it since I'll never get to the point where I'm translating my app anyway Use a string-array and use the index (0...x) to know what the selection is Use a 2-dimensional string-array with a reference ID in the first column and the text in the second?

• In SQL Server, can multiple inserts be replaced with a single insert that takes an XML parameter?

  So I have an existing ASP.NET solution that uses LINQ-to-SQL to insert data into SQL Server (5 tables, 110k records total). I had read in the past that XML could be passed as a parameter to SQL Server but my google searches turn up results that store the XML directly into a table. I would rather take that XML parameter and insert the nodes as records. Is this possible? How is it done (i.e. how is the XML parameter used to insert records in T-SQL, how should the XML be formatted)? Note: I'm researching other options like SQL bulk copy and I know that SSIS would be a good alternative. I want to know if this XML approach is feasible.

I have three tables, installation, neighborhood, schools Installation: has_many :schools has_many :neighborhoods Neighborhood: has_many :installations has_many :schools Schools: belongs_to :installations belongs_to :neighborhoods I can't figure out how to show the name of the neighborhood the school is located in on the index view. I can get it to show on the show view once I have the school id. But on the index view I can't figure out what to put in the controller that will allow me to access the neighborhood name from the neighborhood_id that is in the School model. I am sure this is so easy and I am screwing up something stupid. HELP!

  Hi I don't know the correct words for what I'm trying to find out about and as such having a hard time googling. I want to know whether its possible with databases (technology independent but would be interested to hear whether its possible with Oracle, MySQL and Postgres) to point to specific rows instead of executing my query again. So I might initially execute a query find some rows of interest and then wish to avoid searching for them again by having a list of pointers or some other metadata which indicates the location on a database which I can go to straight away the next time I want those results. I realise there is caching on databases, but I want to keep these "pointers" else where and as such caching doesn't ultimately solve this problem. Is this just an index and I store the index and look up by this? most of my current tables don't have indexes and I don't want the speed decrease that sometimes comes with indexes. So whats the magic term I've been trying to put into google? Cheers

  I am kinda new to database designing so i ask for some advices or some kind of a good pattern. The situation is that, there is one database, few tables and many users. How should i design the database, or / and which types of queries should i use, to make it work, if users can interact with the database simultaneously? I mean, they have access to and can change the same set of data. I was thinking about transactions, but I am not sure, if that is the right / good / the only solution.   I have the following database schema : Two tables, books and tags, with n-m relationship. Books - Tags We can have for example the book 1, with tags {A,B,C}, and book 2, with tags {A}. I would like to select the books according to a list of tags. For example : selected tags list : {A,B} - book 1 My idea was to use the MINUS SQL function, to subtract book tags list to the selected tags list, and return the book if the list was empty. Unfortunately, this SQL function is not supported by HQL. Any idea about that ?
