    Connection.close() may throw SqlException, but I have always assumed that it is safe to ignore any such exceptions (and I have never seen code that does not ignore them). Normally I would write: try{ connection.close(); }catch(Exception e) {} Or try{ connection.close(); }catch(Exception e) { logger.log(e.getMessage(), e); } The question is: Is it bad practice (and has anyone had problems when ignoring such exeptions). When Connection.close() does throw any exception. If it is bad how should I handle the exception. Comment: I know that discarding exceptions is evil, but I'm reffering only to exceptions thrown when closing a connection (and as I've seen this is fairly common in this case). Does anyone know when Connection.close() may throw anything?

  • When [script] file download fails, how can I tell why?

    My web application sends me diagnostic info from the browser javascript telling me that a [script] tag I've injected has failed to download the associated .js file. I can't reproduce this locally, and there is no particular pattern to which file fails, or what the browser type is. There is a pattern to the geo location of the requests - Mexico and Brazil are always more frequent - so I'm guessing that perhaps the internet in general is just more flaky there, and it is just network issues causing the failures. I'd really like to know for sure, though. Is there any way to determine, from the browser javascript, whether the failure occurred because of an error returned by the server, from a network error, or from a protocol timeout? I don't care if the mechanism is browser-specific, since it seems likely that the same issue is causing the error on all browser types.

Like this: Event 01: 30-05-2010 Event 02: 02-06-2010 Event 03: 05-06-2010 Today is 28-05-2010, so I need to list Event 01. On 01-06-2010 I need to list Event 02.     On websites where you have to enter a user name and password, I notice that I can browse the site with one browser and it will know who I am no matter where I go on the site. But if I open a different browser it doesn't know who I am in that browser unless I log on in that browser. After I log in to a website, does it store some kind of cookie in my browser, and every time I navigate to a different page on that site, it checks the cookie for my identity? What would happen if I logged in, and then before browsing to a different page on the site, deleted the cookie?

    My mouse is stuck in "drag" mode. This generally happens in Photoshop, but happens dragging files and such as well. Clicking rapidly here and there generally solves the problem. Sometimes though, it won't go away until a restart. Unplugging devices, etc., doesn't do anything. For example, right now, my mouse moves but can not click anything so I am using the keyboard to navigate this site. Is there a way to "reset" however the OS stores mouse states? Can I manually fire off a MouseUp event? It's strange that even when human input devices are unplugged, the files are still in drag state.
