• Dynamic binary from file

  This is a little bit of weird problem here. Say I have a C++ code, running on a specific platform. The only purpose of this code is to run files containing binary, NATIVE to that platform. Now - my question is - HOW would I get the data from these files (could even be by bits, like 1024 bits a cycle) to the memory of machine running my code so that this data would be in the execution part? In other words, can I get the data to somewhere where I can point the instruction pointer? If yes, how? I don't mind if I have to use assembler for this - just so it would work.

• do.call(rbind, list) for uneven number of column

  I have a list, with each element being a character vector, of differing lengths I would like to bind the data as rows, so that the column names 'line up' and if there is extra data then create column and if there is missing data then create NAs Below is a mock example of the data I am working with x <- list() x[[1]] <- letters[seq(2,20,by=2)] names(x[[1]]) <- LETTERS[c(1:length(x[[1]]))] x[[2]] <- letters[seq(3,20, by=3)] names(x[[2]]) <- LETTERS[seq(3,20, by=3)] x[[3]] <- letters[seq(4,20, by=4)] names(x[[3]]) <- LETTERS[seq(4,20, by=4)] The below line would normally be what I would do if I was sure that the format for each element was the same... do.call(rbind,x) I was hoping that someone had come up with a nice little solution that matches up the column names and fills in blanks with NAs whilst adding new columns if in the binding process new columns are found...

  The problem is that Visual Stuiod re-create lib everytime. How can I make MSVS does not re-create? I don't know why MSVS create some kind of project's "lib" file whenever I press F5 to debug application. I just converted a solution file from 2005 to 2010. And this problem is occured. [ Revival ] 1.Build solution. 2.Debug 3.Stop debug 4.No source code change 5.Debug (re-create lib) I think that re-creation lib is not necessary. Re-creation lib file takes just a second. • How to disable Eclipse's behavior of maximizing editor when double clicking a tab?

  I recently updated my Eclipse (now running 20100218-1602), and I've found whenever I click around quickly between tabs on the tab bar, it will sometimes maximize the editor and hide the PHP Explorer to the left. After researching a little, this appears to be a feature of double clicking a tab. So I guess it's my fault, I'm sure I'm clicking around too fast and mistakenly double clicking a tab, but it happens often enough on what I'd consider a normal editing session that I've come to absolutely loathe it, and even after the usual googling due diligence cannot figure out how to turn it off. From this post (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/594659/eclipses-tab-double-click-on-visual-studio) someone mentions the Window.AutoHideAll shortcut, however that seems to only be for assigning keyboard shortcuts--this is a mouse click thing. But maybe it's a clue. I can't find anything relevant under Eclipse - Preferences - PHP. I don't think it's specific to PHP because if I switch to the Java perspective, double clicking a tab hides the Package Explorer. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

• Getting specific values with regex

  I need to knowingly isolate each row of the vCard and get its value. For instance, I want to get "5555" from X-CUSTOMFIELD. So far, my thoughts are: "X-CUSTOMFIELD;\d+" I have been looking at some tutorials and I am a little confused with what function to use? What would my regex above return? Would it give me the whole line or just the numerical part (5555)? I was thinking I i get the whole row, I can use substring to get the digits?   We all walked out of school with the stars in our eyes and little experience in "real-world" programming. How have your opinions on programming as a craft changed since you've gained more experience away from academia? I've become more and more about design a la McConnell : wide use of encapsulation, quality code that gives you warm fuzzy feelings when you read it, maintainability over execution performance, etc..., whereas many of my co-workers have followed a different path of fewer middlemen layers getting in the way, code that is right out in the open and easier to locate, even if harder to read, and performance-centric designs. What have you learned about the craft of software design which has changed the way you approach coding since leaving the academic world?

  I'd like to create HTNML documentation for a Java class library that includes programming guide information - beyond just a class reference code examples in the reference doc collapsible regions I want it to look well-styled. Something like this: I think that Javadoc exposes a doclet API that allows other parties to provide doc generation integrated in Javadoc. • phpMyAdmin Cron to Delete Temporary Files

  I have a folder on my hosting which I periodically upload something to - /public_html/uploads - and I'd like to set up a cronjob through phpMyAdmin to empty it out on a regular basis. The current cron I have in pMA is find /public_html/uploads -maxdepth 1 -ctime 1 -exec rm -f {} \; (Ignore the fact that it's running every minute for now, it's so I can test it :) ) I know very little about what this command is actually doing, but it looks like "not very much". Can anyone help me fix it? :) Thanks.

I know the definition of a protocol, being new to this c++ programming is quite a challenging task.I am creating a Multi-threaded chat using SDL/C++, this is a learning experience for me and now i have encounter a hump in which I need to overcome but understanding it is a little more difficult than I had thought.I need to make a chat protocol of some sort, I think...but am stump. Up until this point i have been sending messages in strings of characters.Now that am improving the application to the point where clients can register and login, I need a better way to communicating with my clients and server. thank you.

• Can I use Blender to create 3D wall image viewer application under Linux?

  Hi, Is that possible to use Blender to create Cooliris-like 3D wall image viewer application under Linux? I don't see many people use Blender (BGE) to create desktop application, so I am wondering if this is possible. People normally use Blender for modeling/movie and game engine. I can not find a good way to create 3D application in Linux so far. I was thinking about pyQT+opengl. But I feel that is hard to do. No robust and easy-to-use qt+opengl toolkit available from my research. I know a little bit of Blender, that's why I am asking if Blender is an alternative solution. (python is preferred) The image viewer doesn't have to be windowed. It can be full screen, like a game?. I would like to add many cool effects into this application. Hopefully cooler than Cooliris which is written in flash. Thanks a lot.

  Hi iOS gurus, I'm a little bit confused about UITableViewController... As far as I concern they are typically the delegate and datasource of the UITableView (although it can be made such that they are different). However in some cases, like when embedding a UITableViewController in a UITabBarViewController in Interface Builder, we initiate our table view controller in IB. Therefore in my understanding, the default initialiser is being called. But in this case, I have this piece of code: @interface Settings : UITableViewController { } And in the IB I see that the delegate and datasource of the UITableView is hooked up to this class. My question is, why is it that we don't need to explicitly say that it is following: @interface Settings : UITableViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource> { } And in the .m file: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [tableView setDelegate:self]; [tableView setDataSource:self]; } I have indeed stumbled upon some cases where I have to explicitly code the above a few times to make something work. Although it is still a mystery for me as of why it is needed...

• How is fseek() implemented in the filesystem?

  This is not a pure programming question, however it impacts the performance of programs using fseek(), hence it is important to know how it works. A little disclaimer so that it doesn't get closed. I am wondering how efficient it is to insert data in the middle of the file. Supposing I have a file with 1MB data and then I insert something at the 512KB offset. How efficient would that be compared to appending my data at the end of the file? Just to make the example complete lets say I want to insert 16KB of data. I understand the answer varies depending on the filesystem, however I assume that the techniques used in common filesystems are quite similar and I just want to get the right notion of it.

  Hello, I'm developing an project, which consists in a webservice and a client application. It's a fair simple scenario. The webservice is connected to a database server, and the client consumes from the webserver in order to get information retrieved from the database. The thing is: 1. The client application can only display data after a previous authentication; 2. All the data transferred between Web Service and clients must be confidential; 3. Data integrity shouldn’t be compromised; I'm wondering what is the best way to achieve these requirements. The first thing I thought about, was sending the server a digital signature containing a client certificate, to be stored in the server, and used as comparison for authentication. But I investigated a little about webservice security, and I'm no longer certain that this is the best option. Can anyone give me an opinion about this? TIA

• Why specifcially in my example does this "too much recursion" error occur in my JavaScript?

  I have been looking into this for a little while now. I have a gallery on my page, that uses Ariel Flesler's scrollTo plugin. It works fine on the home page, but not on the Contact page. In Firefox, I get the error... Too much recursion I have sorted through as much code as possible and set breakpoints in a few places. I am pretty sure it is something to do with the plugin (specifically, when it is called in the click handler). For your convenience, I am using the unpacked versions of jQuery and scrollTo plugin. What on earth am I doing wrong? Thanks for your time.

  What languages other than C and C++ have explicit reference and pointer type qualifiers? People seem to be easily confused by the right-to-left reading order of types, where char*& is "a reference to a pointer to a character", or a "character-pointer reference"; do any languages with explicit references make use of a left-to-right reading order, such as &*char/ref ptr char? I'm working on a little language project, and legibility is one of my key concerns. It seems to me that this is one of those questions to which it's easy for a person but hard for a search engine to provide an answer. Thanks in advance!

• Determining if a coordinate is on a line

  I´m coding a little app that allows the user to draw multiple shapes and then remove or resize them. It´s working perfectly on rectangles and ovals, but I´m having issues with lines. Here´s a method that I wrote to find if the clicked spot on the screen is part of a specific line: public boolean containsLocation(int x, int y) { int m = (getY2() - getY()) / (getX2() - getX()); int b = getY() - (m * getX()); if (y == (m * x) + b) { return true; } return false; I´m using the famous y = mx + b formula and replacing y and x to find if the clicked spot is part of the line. The problem is when I click on the screen to remove the line, it only works if I click on the very fist coordinate (x,y) where the line starts. Nothing happens when I click anywhere else along the line. Can anyone shed a light on what I´m doing wrong? Thanks a lot.

• Automating SSRS Report Deployment

  Hello....I have a web site in 3 environments (DEV/TEST/PROD). The Web Site uses SSRS which also has 3 different environments(DEV/TEST/PROD). Currently, I am deploying the reports using the Manual Deployment mechanism provided in the SSRS Solution (i.e., right click a report and click "Deploy"). I have to manually change the Deployment URLs for each environment. Is there a way to Automate this so that reports are automatically deployeed to PROD and TEST if a change occurs in DEV? I've seen some info on RSScripter but it looks a little tricky/clunky...I was hoping for a more succinct/streamlined solution. Thanks MikeTWebb

• CRC32 calculations for png chunk doesn't match the real one

  I'm attempting to mimic the function used for creating CRC's in PNG files, I'm using the autodin II polynomial and the source code from: http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/xnu/xnu-1456.1.26/bsd/libkern/crc32.c My tests have all been for the IHDR chunk, so my parameters have been: crc - 0xffffffff and 0 (both have been suggested) buff - the address of the IHDR Chunk's type. length - the IHDR Chunk's length + 4 (the length of the chunk's data + the length of the type) I printed the calculated CRC in binary, which I compared to the actual CRC of the chunk. I can see no similarities (little-big endian, reversed bits, XOR'd, etc). This is the data for the IHDR chunk (hexadecimal format): length(big endian): d0 00 00 00 (13) type: 49 48 44 52 data: 00 00 01 77 00 00 01 68 08 06 00 00 00 existing CRC: b0 bb 40 ac If anyone can tell me why my calculations are off, or give me a CRC32 function that will work I would greatly appreciate it. • in jqgrid, how can i have the editform disappear after submit

  right now, when i click submit it sends a message to the server and updates the databased and refreshes the screen but it keeps the edit form popup on the screen. • Rails authorization plugins

  We are evaluating plugins for Authorization in Rails. The two at the top of our list are cancan and declarative_authorization. I would like to get some feedback from anyone currently using either of these plugins. The problem we are going to face with any authorization plugin is that we have a database per customer model and will need to modify the plugin to work within that model. Because of this fact I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has had to tweak the plugins at all as well. I'm just starting to look around at the code. It seems like cancan might be a little easier to customize. Any thoughts?

• Conditional interface programming for iPad?

Is it possible to build an app for iPad that uses a function to control which interface layout is displayed? Something like "if these parameters are met, use XIB file "a" else use XIB file "b". • Can an appdomain be restricted to one directory?

  I am developing a plugin host. The plugins should have as little trust as they need, however I want to have the possibility for a plugin to read and write files. Can the AppDomain where the assembly will be loaded be restricted to have access to only one directory for reading and writing? Other options and ways to go about this are also appreciated like for example easy ways to stream file data from the host to the plugin (reading) and from the plugin to the host (writing). • Java reduce CPU usage

  Greets- We gots a few nutters in work who enjoy using while(true) { //Code } in their code. As you can imagine this maxes out the CPU. Does anyone know ways to reduce the CPU utilization so that other people can use the server as well. The code itself is just constantly polling the internet for updates on sites. Therefore I'd imagine a little sleep method would greatly reduce the the CPU usage. Also all manipulation is being done in String objects (Java) anyone know how much StringBuilders would reduce the over head by? Thanks for any pointers

  Hi, I googled this many times but now I have to ask it here. I want to make a workflow for a website for Developpement/Production. My constraint is that I use Facebook Connect (Facebook Graph now) so I need to have the dev and prod on the same domain and server. (to be able to log in and test the features) I thought I will edit the CodeIgniter Index.php to redirect if I have a specific user agent (I can edit the one of my firefox) You think it's a good Idea or you have a better one ? And now comes the eternal question : how can I deploy this the easy way ? should I use Capistrano or Phing ? or simply a script with SVN ? Please help me, I'm totally new to this Deployment thing. I used to work directly in production for my little websites or on other domains. but now it's not possible anymore.
