• Javascript working in Firefox but not in IE -

  I have this authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'+ '<li><a href="auth/create_account">create account</a></li>'; It works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer gives me an "Error: Object doesn't support this property or method" I'm mystified - what could be going on here? There's a comment line above the offending line, could that possibly be making a difference? //authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'; Check out the page yourself at http://www.imagineelection.com.   Hello All.... I am just refreshing the oops features of the java. So, I have a little confusion regarding inheritance concept. For that I have a following sample code : class Super{ int index = 5; public void printVal(){ System.out.println("Super"); } } class Sub extends Super{ int index = 2; public void printVal(){ System.out.println("Sub"); } } public class Runner { public static void main(String args[]){ Super sup = new Sub(); System.out.println(sup.index+","); sup.printVal(); } } Now above code is giving me output as : 5,Sub. Here, we are overriding printVal() method, so that is understandable that it is accessing child class method only. But I could not understand why it's accessing the value of x from Super class...   I'm using OpenOffice to convert documents to pdf/xls; Main system where usually is running Openoffice is Linux; There(in openoffice) is such thing as XML filters; A have package of those filters and usually to import this package I using(from launched openoffice): Tools-XML Filter settings -open package; It's like little converting server, but there is one problem - system needs X server to be running; So is there a way to import this XML filter package to Openoffice(or Libre office) from command line?

• How to make a section header with an non-rectangular shape without ugly underflow?

  I made an custom UITableView. Then I made a custom header for sections. It has round corners. But unfortunately, the rows of the section are visible in those round corners when the header floats over them. I could just make a background color so the corners are not transparent. But that is not a solution since my whole table has a background image and the section header can move. Is there any way to get the clipping region for the rows a little bit more downwards? I mean: They should not appear under that section header.

• CSS file not getting downloaded in Visual Studio 2008 SP?

  Hi guys, This might sound a little wierd, but all of a sudden the CSS and Javascript files referenced in my master page are not being downloaded while the page is being rendered. I am working on a ASP.NET MVC project and things were all fine like half an hour ago! Here is what I have in head section of the master page, <link href="/Content/MyCSS.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="/Scripts/jquery-1.3.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> I can see the CSS class intellisense while designing pages. But in the page source I do not see these files being added. I can see the css being applied in the VS designer. I have tried restarting VS, restarting my machine too. Anyone else faced this situation before. I might go crazy now.

• Resources for Win32 C/C++ programming

  I have experience in a variety of languages (Java, Perl, C#, PHP, javascript, ansi-C for microprocessors, Objective-C and others), with Win32 programming not being an area I've done a lot of work in. Now part of my job entails maintaining a large Win32 codebase that stretches back 15 years and includes everything from C written originally for Win95 to MFC to COM to 64-bit code for Win7 to C++ using Boost and so on. If there's a variation on how to do something it's in there. Are there any good Win32 C/C++ references that discuss both the proper way to do things today and give you a little sense of how things evolved? Something like this discussion of all the various boolean types, or how to approach the API monstrosity of simply copying a string. I don't see my career heading too far down this path, but I do like to understand what I'm working with and I think this is an important part of programming history. thanks, Eric

• Best .NET Solution for Frequently Changed Database

  I am currently architecting a small CRUD applicaton. Their database is a huge mess and will be changing frequently over the course of the next 6 months to a year. What would you recommend for my data layer: 1) ORM (if so, which one?) 2) Linq2Sql 3) Stored Procedures 4) Parametrized Queries I really need a solution that will be dynamic enough (both fast and easy) where I can replace tables and add/delete columns frequently. Note: I do not have much experience with ORM (only a little SubSonic) and generally tend to use stored procedures so maybe that would be the way to go. I would love to learn Ling2Sql or NHibernate if either would allow for the situation I've described above.

  Hello Stackoverflow Team, This is just a suggestion to you. In the first place i must say that you guys are doing a great job. I suggest that you build into the forum system a mail notifier(to notify users whenever there is a move/deletion of a post with the reason of the move/deletion) so that whenever you move or removed someone's post then he can be notified about the move, so that we don't spend time looking for posts that are removed. I think by so doing the number of duplicate posts and mistakes from users can be minimized. The reason is i spent hours searching through the posts to locate my posts that you have re/moved. That is why i was a little bit upset. Sorry if here is the wrong place to post my suggestion. Point me to the right place. Thanks for your work.

  I've got something like this: clock_t start, end; start=clock(); something_else(); end=clock(); printf("\nClock cycles are: %d - %d\n",start,end); and I always get as an output "Clock cycles are: 0 - 0" Any idea why this happens? (Just to give little detail, the something_else() function performs a left-to-right exponentiation using montgomery represantation, moreover I don't know for certain that the something_else() function does indeed take some not negligible time.)   I need a little help putting together a SQL query that will give me the following resultsets: and The data model looks like this: The tricky part for me is that the columns to the right of the "Product" in the resultset are really columns in the database but rather key/value pairs spanned across the data model. Table data is as follows: My apologies in advance for the image heavy question and the image quality. This just seemed like the easiest way to convey the information. It'll probably take someone less time to write the query statement to achieve the results. By the way, the "product_option" table image is truncated but it illustrated the general idea of the data structure. The MySQL server version is 5.1.45.

• running a stored procedure inside a sql trigger

  Hi all, the business logic in my application requires me to insert a row in table X when a row is inserted in table Y. Furthermore, it should only do it between specific times(which I have to query another table for). I have considered running a script every 5 minutes or so to check this, but I stumbled upon triggers and figured this might be a better way to do it. But I find the syntax for procedures a little bewildering and I keep getting an error I have no idea how to fix. I have one particular issue that has been a little bit of a problem. there is an instance where one of the pages will need to send around 50 emails at near the same time. I would like the messages sent to a queue where a background thread will actually do the email sending. What is the appropriate way to solve this problem? • Viewing directory containing MIME encoded email messages

  I have an application which generates and sends MIME encoded messages (javax.mail.internet.MimeMessage) through an SMTP server. As part of the development process only, I'd like to be able to view these messages rather than send them (I know the sending works just fine, but there are restrictions on the domains within the dev environment which makes it a little difficult) I thought the easiest way would be to save the text for each message to a directory, then point "an app" at the directory and check them over. So the question is, what would be a good app to use? Is it as simple as configuring Outlook or another email client to do it? Thanks

I'm still getting used to all the web technologies used for developing modern web sites and everywhere I look, I see cool little UI elements and question how they're implemented. So I thought I'd ask you, the web experts...the wexperts :) What are some straight forward or creative ways you could code this grid-breaking arrow... The basic layout for this page looks like...   Hi! I'm using winforms. I spend a lot of time drawing forms (maybe not a lot, but it is a boring task). To sum up... I want to develop a simple aplication that connect to a sql server database, let the user to select a table, and put the controls in a form for me (generate the designer code), based on the tipe of each column. Then my app will name each control like the column of the table, set the maxlengh property (if the type is varchar), and create a label with the same text near the control. If the column is a FK, then the app will draw a combobox and so on. I saw that Telerik Open ORM make something like this, but I only need a simple app for the IU Generation. If the same day I finish my little application I discover a tool that make the same... I will feel myself stupid :D Are there any tool out there that do this work for me? Thanks

  I'm having a little test program that sends a lot of udp packets between client-server-client (ping/pong test). The packets are fixed size on each run(last run is max allowable size of udp packet) I'm filling the packets with random data except for the beginning of each packet that contains the packet number. So I'm only interested to see if I receive all the packets back at the client. I'm using sendto() and recvfrom() and I only read the sizeof(packet_number) (which in this case is an int). What happens to the rest of the data? Does it end up in fairyland (gets discarded)? or does the new packet that arrives gets appended to this "old" data? (using linux)

Everyone refers to "Asynchronous" computing as running different processes on seperate threads, which gives the illusion that these processes are running at the same time. This is not the definition of the word asynchronous. a·syn·chro·nous –adjective 1. not occurring at the same time. 2. (of a computer or other electrical machine) having each operation started only after the preceding operation is completed. What am I not understanding here?

  I'm trying to find a good way to collect the names of classes defined in the stylesheets included with a given document. I know about document.StyleSheetList but it doesn't seem like it'd be easy to parse. What I'm looking for is something like, for a stylesheet document such as: .my_class { background: #fff000; } .second_class { color: #000000; } I could extract an array like ["my_class", "second_class"]. This obviously assumes the favorable scenario of a fully loaded dom and stylesheets. I've been looking everywhere for a good way to do something like this and so far, have made little progress. Does anyone have any idea about how to pull this off? Thanks!

  Basically I'm trying to make a little app for watching offline content. So there's a moment where the user selects to download the contents (and the app should download about 300 small files and images). I'd like to show the user how does the process go if he enters the proper activity. Showing a list of all the files, telling what has been already downloaded, in progress or waiting for download. My problem is that I really don't know what approach to take for achieve this. Since the download should last until finished I imagine the solution is an Service, but whats best? an IntentService, a Bound Service or an Standard Service calling a startService() for each download? And how can I keep my objects updated for displaying them later? should I use a database or objects in memory? Thanks

I have web form with two options- File upload and textarea, i can easily pass file name with file upload options but have problem when it's textarea. Because when i use textarea then first i have to save values passed from textarea to some files and save it on the working directory. After that i can execute commandline argument and pass same saved filename name. For this problem i have to generate unique file first and save the values passed from textarea in it.   Hello, I have a little problem with my java-program. I wanna use Observer, to synchronize two GUIs. But I can't synchronize the JComponent / JButton elements. For example: I have a GUI-Class which implements the Observer-Class: public class GUI extends JFrame implements Observer I have a second "GUI"-Class which extends the JButton-Class and makes changes on a specific Button-Element. public class Karte extends JButton{ ... this.setEnabled(false); ... How do I synchronize this Button via Observable? I have already tried to use "extends Observable" in this class, but the "setEnabled()" method is explicit for the JButton-Class, which is not Observable! Can someone help? Thanks.

• Efficient determination of which strings in an array are substrings of the others?

  In C#, Say you have an array of strings, which contain only characters '0' and '1': string[] input = { "0101", "101", "11", "010101011" }; And you'd like to build a function: public void IdentifySubstrings(string[] input) { ... } That will produce the following: "0101 is a substring of 010101011" "101 is a substring of 0101" "101 is a substring of 010101011" "11 is a substring of 010101011" And you are NOT able to use built-in string functionality (such as String.Substring). How would one efficiently solve this problem? Of course you could plow through it via brute force, but it just feels like there ought to be a way to accomplish it with a tree (since the only values are 0's and 1's, it feels like a binary tree ought to fit somehow). I've read a little bit about things like suffix trees, but I'm uncertain if that's the right path to be going down. Any efficient solutions you can think of?
