  • HOWTO: Migrate SharePoint site from one farm to another?

    Hi Everyone, I've a site deployed on a developed machine. The site was developed under WSS 3.0 which contains custom List, Features, Templates, Styles etc. What I've to do is to create a deployment package (setup) which I can give away to my client. I know about stsadm but I don't have the access of the production machine. Is there a way I can package all the dependencies in a single file (installation file) and run on the server which will include all the dependencies (including site content)? I've tried to experiment this with SharePoint Content Deployment Wizard. I actually couldn't find a good reference on how to use it. But, this software doesn't something I'm looking for which can create a simple deployment package (after that you don't need to do anything). I might not be correct but after two days of googling I think there is no such utility (freeware) that can create a simple package of a site and install on other farm without even need to configure anything before you run the installation package. You people might have an advise which can help me to look/think outside the box and get to the solution quickly instead adding more days working on the problem. Please, share only freewares. I can't afford to buy anything. I'm waiting to be surprised with a good share :) Have a good day! Thanks.

Just installed MS Server 2008 64bit on a Dell PowerEdge 64bit box (works OK - Previously running MS Server 2003 32bit) After install - gives a a max resultion of 1024x768 I want to change the reslution to 1280x1024 (Same LCD Worked OK on server 2003) When I down load a driver I get a messeage "Radeon 7000 does not recognise driver" Also have Have a new LG W1042 I'd like to use.     I need to extract the ASPNET\Requests Queued performance counter from some IIS servers via WMI. The WMI class for this sort of thing appears to be contained in Win32_PerfFormattedData_ASPNET_ASPNET. I've queried all available classes in root\cimv2 on my Win 2003/IIS6 servers, and it's not listed. It is, however, available on an unrelated Win2008/IIS7 box (which is interesting but doesn't really help me much) What gives? Why is this WMI class not available on my Windows 2003 servers?

    I am planning on adding a Windows Server 2008 R2 box as a second domain controller for a client running an SBS 2003 R2 domain and have two questions. Are there any "gotchya's" involved in doing this, or do I just run ad and forest prep, promote the 2008 R2 box? How would CALs work with this setup? Would I need SBS 2008 CALs, Server 2008 CALs or would the old SBS 2003 CALs cover this setup? My thinking is I will only need Server 2008 CALs

    Server 2008/2008 R2 I'm trying to remotely monitor these servers to watch the progress of hotfixes being installed. I was able to find this in Server 2003/2003 R2: -Log: System -Source: NtServicePack It seems the above event is written when every hotfix is installed. I can't seem to find a comparable entry in Server 2008/2008 R2 though. Is there anything similar that I can easily monitor for remotely?

    When I set a program to open a specific file type by default, it works (like Word 2013 for PDFs). However, when I change the default back to reader, I lose Word as an option that I can pick in the open with sub-menu. How can I get it to stick? Update: It seems that there is something special about word. Adding Notepad++ as the default and then changing it back seems to keep notepad++ on the sub-menu. Word version is 2013

The original file can be seen by my computer friend. What can I do to make the new version of the pps file to be viewable on the computer of my friend? Any tips? This doesn't seem to work properly using iTerm, I am using zsh, I tried adding; bindkey -e bindkey '^[[1;9C' forward-word bindkey '^[[1;9D' backward-word It does work, but inside zsh only, then I commented those lines and added in iTerm a keyboard shortcut; It does work, but only for the ALTleft How can I make it work for the right arrow too?

    We recently upgraded our production boxes to Windows 2008 from Windows 2003 servers. Everything works fine except the event logging. We log at max 32000 bytes of data for each message On 2008 servers, event logging fails if number of characters is greater than 31885. Is this new limit on Windows 2008 R2 servers? Any help appreciated. On Win 2003 servers, I am able to log 32000 bytes of data for each log entry.

  • Microsoft.Office.Interop.MSProject - why are my files always locked (by me!) when I try to open them

    Hi all, I'm trying to use Interop to manipulate MS Project 2003 (MPP) files. My problem is that MS Project reports that the files is already opened by another user (me!) and that I can open it only as read-only. Obviously, I've tried to restart studio, then windows (xp) but with no effect. The file attribute for Readonly is cleared on the file. Any suggestions for what I might try?!     I often write T-SQL loops that look like this While Exists (Select * From #MyTable) Begin Declare @ID int, @Word nvarchar(max) Select Top 1 @ID=ID, @Word=[Word] From #MyTable -- Do something -- Delete #MyTable Where ID=@ID End Works a treat but I noticed the new Delete Top function which would be useful when #MyTable is just a list of strings.   • What software do you use for letter templating and printing?

    In our LOB application there is a very important use case of printing letters, which are then printed and posted out from a mail house (thousands per day). The current situation is that the letter templates are created in Word 97 and fields are mail merged from values in database using a VB.Net application that basically uses word automation. But depending on Word 97 is not a good idea today. We only have a couple of PCs that have Word 97 installed as rest of the company has moved to Office 2007. What software or technology (compatible with .Net) is available today that best suits this scenario. Is it better to do the same thing but move to Word 2007 or PDF or something else. Price may not be a factor. The important thing is that the letter templates must be designed by business users and data to fill placeholders come from DB. A bonus would be to import the hundreds of existing Word 97 letter templates without rewriting them from scratch.

    i am using the following code to read the details from a network folder which is restricted for only one user shell("net use q: \\serveryname\foldername /user:admin pwrd", AppWinStyle.Hide, True, 10000) Process.Start(path) shell("net use q: /delete") when i run this to open any pdf or jpg or any other files except word/excel/powerpoint, everything is working fine. but the problem comes only when i access a word file. in the step one, i am giving permission to access the word file. in the step two, word file is open. in the third, i am deleting the q drive. the problem is the word file is still open. so i am getting a dos window, saying that "some connections of still connected or searching some folders, do you want to force disconnect" please help.... how to access a word file (editable files) providing user name and password from the code and at the same time he shoud not have access to any other folders directly.
