• MS Vista taking too long to identify Wi-Fi connection [closed]

  I with few of my flat-mates share internet connection by using ASL cable into one laptop and then making Adhoc private network so that we all can enjoy internet connectivity. It all worked wonderful few initial days, but now my MS vista is taking much time to identify that adhoc network and it though I am connected to my friend, it takes 5-10 minutes untill I use internet.

  Every 30 minutes, almost by clockwork, a get the following error on my Windows 2008 R2 servers: Log Name: System Source: MSiSCSI Event ID: 113 Level: Warning Description: iSCSI discovery via SendTargets failed with error code 0xefff0003 to target portal *10.2.62.3 0003260 B06BDRV\L4SC&PCI_163A14E4&SUBSYS_045F1028&REV_20\5&cabe3b7&0&30050200_0 I have 12 identically built servers connected to this iSCSI network and they are all seeing this issue. I've updated drivers and firmware levels without any change. Any other obvious things I should try before engaging my network team and the vendors.

• Setting up a SQL server outside the domain

  Hi, im very new to this. I've set up an account "SQLBOX" thats on the a network, but not connected to the domain. I have installed an instance of SQL Server 2008 and am trying to connect to it from another machine on the network but am getting "Cannot connect to "SQLBOX"". From the "SQLBOX" i can connect to sqlservers on the domain, but not vice-versa. Any help would be grately appreciated. Sorry if the description isn't great. Thanks

• Windows 2008 R2 large file copy causes Hyper-V Manager to stop responding

  I'm using the EXPORT feature in Hyper-V to move a large Virtual Machine (VM) over a 1GB network from a Windows 2008 to a Windows 2008 R2 box (200GB) and its so intense that I get the following icon on my destination Hyper-V manager: Is this expected? Is there another way to get large file across the network and minimize this intense I/O effect? Anyones else ever seen that Do Not Enter sign? The other VMs are functional but slow, but I'm guessing that is expected.

• Why would an iPod Touch and PS3 respond to netdiscover as 0.0.0.0?

  Only slightly related to this question, because it was discovered in the same scan: Can someone explain how this happened? When running netdiscover on my home network, my iPod Touch (identified by DHCP-reserved IP address and MAC address) responded to both its own IP address on our 10.x.x.x subnet and to 0.0.0.0 also. Why would this have happened? EDIT: After letting netdiscover run awhile longer, it seems one of the PS3s on the network is also answering to 0.0.0.0 - why is this?

  Best practices indicate that one should list 127.0.0.1 in the DNS list for the network adapter configuration for a Domain Controller, but not as the first one. With that said, what is the best place to put it in a list with more than two DNS servers listed? Second, last, or it doesn't matter? Also helpful would be an explanation as to why.   Ok probably a bit of an odd question, but is there a way to enable "finger" like functionality on a Windows network? we'd basically like the ability to find out where a user is logged in on a network and possibly which users are logged onto a workstation if possible. We're currently on AD2003 functional level, with the intent of going to AD2008 very soon, so compatibility in that arena is preferable.

  Hey, I'm having trouble with an onboard nvidia gigabit network, under times of heavy load on the network, I'm seeing this error logged: "too many iterations (6) in nv_nic_irq" I'm running Hadoop DFS over these NICs and I see checksum errors build up until the whole thing just fails. I'm running the 2.6.26-2-amd64 kernel, and my initial research seems to imply its a problem with the forcedeth driver. Has anyone run into this problem before? Thanks in advance if anyone can help! • ISS7 authentication doesn't work on servername

  Not sure if I put correct title but here is my problem: Local (home network) IIS 7, default web site bind to any IP on port 81, Anonymous Auth disabled, Windows Auth enabled If I go to 192.168.1.101:81/ I get asked for username and password. If I go to server:81/ nothing is being asked regardless whether connecting from local or another machine on the network. Why is that? Am I doing something wrong?

  I have a bunch of programming projects on my P:\ drive (on Windows 7) I'm now doing some programming within Virtual PC Windows XP Mode and I'd like to "call" that drive, within the Win XP guest, the P: drive. I've mapped drive letter P: to "network" drive on the Host but that goes across the network so it's very slow. I tried using the SUBST command but it wouldn't take the \tsclients\p as a parameter. Basically, the command line interpreter (is that DOS on Win 7 ??) doesn't recognize that directory (\tsclients\p)

• Is it better to use N WiFi or Cat5e ethernet for large file transfers?

  I have a network containing 802.11 N WiFi Devices and gigabit ethernet devices, however using only Cat5e wiring. I know that if I used Cat6, the ethernet would be much faster however if I need to transfer a large file between a device thats connected normally connected via ethernet and a device thats normally connected via WiFi, would it be advantageous to bother plugging the WiFi device in to the network? or should I switch the ethernet device to WiFi? or does it really matter?

  Today while doing some routine maintenance I discovered that my internet-connected network adapter was using a 6to4 tunnel to connect to my ISP. Some self-eduction on Teredo seemed to indicate quite a few potential security vulnerabilities with using the protocol. I have disabled my network adapter from using Teredo and it doesn't seem to impact my gateway in any way. Is there anything I am missing that should encourage me to turn it back on?

  I have a sagem livebox 2 (Fiber optic model), and have placed my computer in a DMZ. People from outside of my network can access my comp fine via its external dyndns.org address, yet when I try to call the public dyndns.org address from inside my network, I get redirected to the internal admin site on the router. Our problem is one person can start downloading something and kill the network and every hour we download logs into our cluster but it floods the network unless we rate limit it. • I have an internal machine with apache that I can access by IP Address but not computer name

  I have ubuntu machine running lampp. While on the machine I can type localhost or the computers name to access htdocs. From another machine I can only access the machine via its IP Address. This just started happening recently when someone rearranged the network cables and removed a hub sitting between the machine and the network, which makes me think it wasn't all the stable to begin with anyways. Any suggestions on where I should start looking?

  I am using mobile dial up on ubuntu. However, SOMETIMES even though I am connected to the ISP, I do not have any entries in /etc/resolv.conf. I often restart network-manager or networking hoping it will change but normally it doesn't do any good. and by connected I mean I can see that the network notification icon has switched to a few bars indicating connectivity). Anyone know a good solution around this?

  I am writing an application that contains a web server running on port 50000. On Windows 7, short of turning the firewall off completely, I am having trouble configuring the firewall to allow other computers on the same private LAN to connect to the server. Simply adding the program to the allowed programs list doesn't seem to work. The network connection is set to be a "Home" network (but I am not using Home Networking).
