    Hey, Around two days ago I saw someone working on a computer and alt-tabing to different OSs. Basically he had 3 "screens", one with Fedora, one with Windows XP, one with Mac OSX. How is that possible? I dont think it was a virtual machine.... sounds friggin awesome though.

    recently I found a video on the net ( a .mp4 file), and when I had it on my computer with Windows7, I noticed its thumbnail was not the average windows 7 video thumbnail (which looks like a piece of video film with a random picture from the movie), but a custom thumbnail! Looking in the file properties did not help find the correct button to change the thumbnail...so I just wonder how he did it!   • windows 7 BOOTMGR is missing (no win7 CD/usb)

    I've got an Asus Eee PC with Windows 7 starter pre-installed on it. Now, I don't have anything attached to it, no CD/USB Stick/Cables. However, I still get this error: BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart Since I do not have the USB stick with the windows 7 starter OS and don't want to switch this computer to ubuntu as it is not for me, I can't follow the instructions in this tutorial. Please help!

  • ip route add HOMEIP via SERVERIP disconnects me from ssh

    I want to use a vpn connection on my Debian server but I get disconnected from ssh if I connect to the vpn. I thought by using the "ip route add" I can prevent getting disconnected from my server and it will continue to use the main connection for communication between my computer and the server, and the vpn for communication with other ips. This is the command I use ip route add PUBLICHOMEIP via PUBLICSERVERIP But I get disconnected after the "ip route add" command too. Am I making a mistake anywhere?

    Is it possible to do a straight swap of a 2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 with a 3.4 Ghz Pentium 4 on an Intel motherboard? Do each of these chips have the same socket, or are they different? How do I find out what specific processor (besides the speed, of course) that I have in my computer? How do I find out what socket it uses? If I have to look up the motherboard model information, where do I get the motherboard model from?

  • Xubuntu Running Slower than windows with constant freezing

    So I switched my computer to Ubuntu after some issues with Windows, then switched the GUI to Xubuntu after I noticed Ubuntu and Unity were painfully slow. I'm running an i5 with 8 gigs of ram and I still experience at least one full freeze (where I can't do anything and have to unplug) per week. REISUB does nothing and never has. I am constantly running Virtualbox because I still need Windows. Any thoughts to prevent this annoying freezing?

When I turn on the screen and hit start windows normal or go to safe mode I get a flash of the win xp logo and then it goes to this error page. Can you tell from this message is it a hardware or software issue?

    I keep getting the following message, "Do you want the application “java” to accept incoming network connections?" First of all, what application? Second, if it's part of the browser, which sometimes the browser isn't open, it doesn't show me what page is requesting it. "Application" is very generic. Third what does that mean? Is it asking if anyone on the internet can make connections to my computer?

    I use firefox to visit a web server running on a computer on my LAN. I notice that sometimes TCP doesn't acknowledge the packets it receives.   • Wondering about the Windows 7 serial number my laptop has, and its uses.

    So that's the serial number of my pre-installed windows copy, I take it. But am I allowed to use it again when, say, I don't know, my system gets crippled by a sneaky virus? If I format my computer and install windows starter again from a USB drive (speculating. I've never format before, I suppose is completely possible) Is that serial number still valid? I'm talking about the number printed on the back of my laptop.

HP Deskjet F2235 - designated scanner (has printing issues) Brother HL-2040 - designated printer (doesn't have a scanner) Just by using those two both connected to the same computer, is there a way to perform a photocopy operation by scanning via the designated scanner then immediately it being printed from the designated printer? Obviously you could save the scanned files then print them, but short of making a script or manually doing this, is there a faster automatic way through settings or third-party software?

In the process of checking the hardware, I notice that the case fans have accumulated a lot of green "gunk" and I've tried wetting the edge of a paper towel to wipe and rub it off.     With a typical USB hard drive enclosure, is the full range of drive power management functionality available? In what may be an unrelated matter: is it possible to suspend a PC without unmounting an attached USB-powered drive, and then remounting it on resume? This is the behaviour I'm currently seeing (running Ubuntu linux 10.10). Are there certain models or brands that provide more complete control over this aspect of drive operation? My Friendly Neighbourhood Computer Store carries (part of) the Vantec Nexstar product line.
